kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5.5 088c8be14f fix(ci): pull workspace images through the GHCR mirror like the deploy jobs
The workspace jobs pulled every image anonymously from Docker Hub and
two of them failed on its rate limit in run 39059128678 (#990): the
fedora swarm drill on busybox:1.38 on all three nodes, the centos
compose drill while building tor-smtp_custom. The regular deploy jobs
pull through the GHCR mirror, but the mirror was tied to being a real
GitHub runner: Profile.image_mirror_enabled() returned
runs_on_github(), and the swarm routine generated mirrors.yml only when
cli.meta.runtime reported github, which is act inside make
swarm-zombie.

The mirror is now its own capability, INFINITO_GHCR_MIRROR (next to
INFINITO_GHCR_MIRROR_PREFIX), written as a run fact like
INFINITO_CACHE_STACK: true on a real GitHub runner,
false everywhere else, and a non-empty exported value wins for the run.
Profile.image_mirror_enabled() reads the declaration and keeps
runs_on_github() as the fallback, and 02_provision_inventory.sh gates
on the same value instead of the runtime name. make swarm-zombie
forwards it into act through ACT_ENV, since act ignores the host env.

call-test-workspace.yml declares INFINITO_GHCR_MIRROR=true and passes
INFINITO_GHCR_MIRROR_PREFIX into the workspace container. Nothing else
of the workspace changes: is_ci, runs_on_github, the cache stack and
the docker root stay local-like. The step that loads the rescue paths
now removes the .env it generated on the runner, because on debian
rows load.sh sourced it inside the container and the run inherited
INFINITO_RUNNING_ON_GITHUB=true.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 66be8f6a0a test(lint): refuse a Debian codename in an image tag
A codename carries no ordering, so 'bookworm' and 'trixie' are two opaque
strings and no updater can tell that one supersedes the other. A pin that
names its Debian release that way is frozen on that release for as long as
it stands, and the freeze is invisible because the tag keeps resolving.
Numeric tags are comparable and stay inside the freshness pipeline, so the
rule is worth holding for the whole repository rather than fixing case by
case.

The check reads two shapes, because a codename reaches the tree in two
spellings. A 'name:tag' reference is recognised by the absence of a space
after the colon, which is what separates 'debian:bookworm' from the YAML
'image: python' and covers Dockerfile FROM lines and heredocs without a
second parser. A 'version:' value is read as a key, because '3.11-bookworm'
carries no colon at all.

False positives are kept out by two independent gates: a word-boundary
prefilter, so 'residual' and 'inside' are not read as 'sid', and a split of
the tag on '-', '.' and '_' that requires a whole component to be a
codename. That is what lets 'cache buster', '.stretched-link',
'fa-bullseye' and a tags list containing 'stretch' through. Every codename
occurrence in the repository was checked against the matcher by hand, and
the check was negative-controlled in both shapes, including an untracked
file.

Four references had to move for the rule to hold. meta/distros.yml takes
'debian:13' rather than '13.6': at depth 1 the updater can raise it across
a major, while depth 2 pins it inside the 13.x line forever. The whole
'make install' path was run in a debian:13 container to back that: all
twenty-four Depends and Recommends resolve on trixie, the docker repository
bootstrap derives the right suite and installs docker-ce-cli, and the
package builds and installs.

The workspace DiD probe moves to 'debian:13-slim'. An earlier version of
this change carried a suppression claiming the probe had to follow the
suite the apt proxy mirrors. That was wrong twice over: it cited a function
that has nothing to do with the probe, and the coupling does not exist,
because the cache frontend rewrites by path prefix and the suite never
enters a routing decision. Replaying the probe verbatim against
debian:13-slim fetches all three trixie suites through the
bookworm-configured proxies, so the suppression is gone rather than
reworded.

The rule ships with an escape hatch and no uses of it.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 af605b049f refactor(domains): give local testing a .test domain, leave .example to docs
RFC 6761 reserves .test for testing and .example for documentation, and the
project's own domain was doing both jobs under the documentation name. It is
what default.env hands every local deploy and what the test fixtures assert
against, so it is a testing name.

Rename it wherever it stands for the running machine: the environment
defaults, the development inventory, the workspace and trust scripts, the test
suites, and the four documents that describe real behaviour - the DNS mapping
to loopback, the browser CA trust, WSL2 resolution. Those documents would have
started lying the moment default.env changed.

The sandbox allowlist moves with them, since egress is matched per pattern and
nothing resolves the old name any more, and the sandbox document that mirrors
that list follows it.

Two places keep .example on purpose: the link-style sample in the
documentation guide, which is documentation about documentation, and every
generic fixture name elsewhere in the suite - a.example, foo.example and their
kin. Those are a larger sweep of their own and are not touched here.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 3781c30235 fix(env): write the cache-stack declaration from a handler, not the registry
48845db97 made three capability decisions declarable and named them INFINITO_*, which put them under setdefault: the live environment wins and the value is written back. Makefile exports BASH_ENV, so .env is re-exported into every make recipe, and scripts/tests/code/run.sh reaches dotenv through 'make setup' on every test run. A declaration made for one run therefore became a machine fact on first regeneration and stayed one - that is what made the workspace failure intermittent rather than reproducible, and why fedora died on 11 assertions where debian passed the same code.

A dedicated handler writing through eb.set recomputes the value every time and discards whatever the environment held, so the key stays registered in default.env and visible to the lints while remaining structurally unpinnable. running_on/github.py already worked this way; the distinction now has a name in utils/env/README.md. The exporting shell still steers its own run, because load.sh preserves non-empty caller values.

The other two declarations are deleted rather than moved. image_mirror_enabled and docker_root_ephemeral both derive from runs_on_github(), and the orchestrator does not unset INFINITO_RUNNING_ON_GITHUB, so inside the workspace they were already true and the declarations restated a value that held anyway. Measured across all four runtime contexts: only the workspace row changes, and only for the cache.

Verified by reversing the probe: 'INFINITO_CACHE_STACK=false make dotenv' writes .env=true, where the registry path wrote the exported value back.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 48845db979 refactor(profile): split runtime capabilities from runtime identity
One boolean answered five unrelated questions: whether the pull-through cache stack runs, whether image pulls take the GHCR mirror, whether the docker data root may be wiped, plus runtime naming and inventory resolution. The workspace is the environment where those answers diverge — it simulates a developer machine on a real runner — so getting one of them meant misreporting where the suite runs and silently paying for the other four.

is_ci() and runs_on_github() stay facts about the machine. cache_stack_enabled, image_mirror_enabled and docker_root_ephemeral become decisions that default off those facts and can be declared explicitly, so an environment states what it wants. Every default reproduces the previous condition exactly, including the distinction the old mirror and wipe gates drew between a real runner and act.

73ae40585 got the cache stack by flipping the identity flag and lost the docker-root wipe with it; the workspace now declares all three capabilities instead. Pairs with 4c068d1cf, which makes the resulting stray bind sources harmless rather than fatal.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 73ae405854 fix(workspace): complete the forced local runtime context
The workspace suite represents a developer machine, but Profile.is_ci() reads three signals and the block neutralised only two. INFINITO_RUNNING_ON_GITHUB is baked into .env by the runner-side make dotenv before the container starts, and load.sh regenerates .env only when it is missing, so the value survived into a container that had already unset GITHUB_ACTIONS. registry_cache_active() stayed false, make compose-up omitted compose/cache.override.yml, and the compose track then asserted pull-through on a cache stack that was never created.

40375decb wrote this block before that third signal existed; 94936f198 added the Profile gate a month later.

Accepted side effect: the workspace no longer resolves as GitHub, so it skips the GHCR mirrors and the docker-root wipe in down.py, which key off the same flag.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 575a5a87ac refactor(layout): sort shipped scripts by language and split the unit suite
Every script a role ships now lives under `files/<language>/`, and the unit
suite is split the same way: `tests/unit/python/` beside new sibling trees for
the other languages. `tests/lint/filesystem/test_role_files_layout.py` keeps it
that way; directories whose shape is dictated from outside carry a `.nocheck`
naming the constraint (Docker build contexts, WordPress mu-plugins, the Joomla
extension, Odoo addons, Playwright suites, the `files/test/test.sh` harness
that `test-e2e-cli` resolves generically).

This cannot be applied in halves. Moving a file and repointing what names it
are the same change: 14 references resolve only at deploy time, so the tree is
green either before or after, never between.

Those 14 were found by static resolution over every reference class, not by the
test suite -- a full `make quality-high` was green while all of them were
broken:

  * 7 `src:` values built from a role variable holding a bare filename
    (svc-bkp-remote-2-local, decidim, espocrm, friendica, joomla, pixelfed x2).
    The variable doubles as the destination name inside the container, so the
    language segment belongs at the call site, not in the variable.
  * `sys-service/tasks/04_base.yml` resolved every consumer's systemd script
    through `first_found(..., errors='strict')` over `files/script.{sh,py}`.
    18 roles ship exactly that and have no template fallback: the play would
    have died on each.
  * `sys-front-inj-javascript` fell back to `<role>/files/javascript.js`; the
    interface now reads `files/javascript/javascript.js`.
  * `sys-front-inj-logout/templates/head_sub.j2` built the cache-busting mtime
    path through `path_absolute(... 'files', ...)`.
  * 4 `ansible.builtin.script:` invocations naming a bare command
    (pull.py, prune.sh, set_postgres_superuser_password.sh, ganesha-serve.sh).
  * `dev-python/files/shell/install.sh` pointed at a sibling role's script.

Depth-dependent paths inside the moved trees were bumped accordingly: 59
`parents[N]` computations, 12 relative climbs, and the per-role recover CLI,
whose path `cli/administration/recover/recoverers.py` still assembled from the
pre-move location.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 5005c3962a fix(workspace): keep the onion out of the matomo deploy
02_performance deployed matomo with no disable set at all, so svc-net-tor joined the groups. It is exclusive, matomo follows it through tor.enabled in its own services meta, and the clearnet vhost disappears. The assertion two lines down then aborts in TLS before HTTP: 'curl: (35) TLS connect error: tlsv1 unrecognized name', reported as '[FAIL] https://matomo.infinito.example returned HTTP 000, expected 200'.

The counter-example sits in the same job: 01_minimal deploys dashboard with the group-conditional services disabled, tor among them, and its clearnet assertion returns 200. This suite tests the inventory, not the transport -- that a dedicated deploy replaces the previous app set. So it takes the route the sibling script already proves, rather than asserting against an onion address the runner never touched.

03_reuse stays untouched: it runs mode=update against the inventory 02 just built.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 3d93c81f70 fix(workspace): give the swarm track the teardown boundaries the old suite had
The split left the swarm track without any teardown: a `base swarm` run
started the development stack in base/04_bootstrap.sh and never brought it
down, so it leaked AppArmor, dev DNS and IPv6 state onto the host and ran
the swarm cluster alongside a live dev stack the old suite had already
released.

The old single job ran `make compose-down` + `make environment-teardown`
as step 10, immediately before 12_swarm.sh and 13_roundtrip.sh. The swarm
track now reproduces exactly that: 01_teardown releases the stack before
02_zombie and 03_roundtrip (which are byte-identical to the old steps apart
from their source path), and 04_teardown leaves the host clean — something
the old suite never did, since it ended on the roundtrip's restarted stack.

Both closing steps and the new leading one share utils/teardown.sh so the
teardown cannot drift between tracks.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 ac7b98f342 refactor(workspace): split the environment suite into base, compose and swarm tracks
scripts/tests/environment/ becomes scripts/tests/workspace/ with one
subdirectory per track. base/ prepares the workspace and is a prerequisite;
compose/ and swarm/ are independent of each other, so CI can run them as
separate jobs with a budget each. 00_orchestrator.sh runs the tracks named
by INFINITO_WORKSPACE_TRACKS and aborts on an unknown one.

The job count stays at five: cli.meta.ci.dev_runtime matrix assigns exactly
one track per distro and flips the split with the run number, so two
consecutive runs cover both tracks on every distro without doubling the
matrix. The workspace_track input (rotate|compose|swarm) pins it from manual
steer through the orchestrator for a targeted re-run.

Job names carry the track glyph from utils/symbol_glossary and the image
shortened to its last two segments, so quay.io/centos/centos:latest reads
as centos:latest.
