disable= now drops providers left with no surviving parent, not only
the named provider roles. Compose (init) and swarm (derive_includes)
share one reachability cut: BFS from the surviving primaries over
dependency + service edges with disabled roles as cut-nodes. No-disable
deploys stay byte-identical.

The ruff toolchain was unpinned, so host venvs, the lint container and CI
installed different releases over time. That drift is why lint-python only
failed on CI: locally ruff 0.15.x preview-gated ISC004/FURB192 and (falsely)
fired S310 on urllib.request.Request, while CI's 0.16.0 has ISC004/FURB192
stable and drops the S310-on-Request false positive.
Pin ruff==0.16.0 in pyproject.toml's dev extras (Dependabot keeps it current)
and have utils.install.lint.ruff read that pin and reinstall whenever the
found version drifts, so every environment resolves the same ruff. Then fix
what 0.16.0 flags: parenthesise the implicit string concatenations (ISC004),
use min() over sorted()[0] (FURB192), drop the now-unused S310 noqa on the
Request() builders (RUF100), and delete the narration comments that the
comment lint surfaces in the touched files.

Add an in_main column (🌳) to the role complexity matrix: it resolves
the role directories present under roles/ at origin/main once and flags
every row true/false, so a role that is new on the current branch stands
out. When the ref cannot be resolved (a non-git checkout or an unfetched
main) the marker falls back to present for every role rather than
falsely reporting them new.

INFINITO_RESCUE_DIAGNOSTICS_BASE joins default.env as the only literal
of the runner-side collection root and is wired through the passthrough
handler into the generated .env. The four deploy workflows load it with
one grep bootstrap step after checkout instead of hardcoding the path in
their env blocks; upload paths and per-app DIR derivations reference the
variable. dedicated.sh sources it from .env alongside the existing
diagnostics keys and hard-requires it, no script-level default.

Conflicts: keep both new passthrough env vars; adopt the swarm-nfs
ollama manager-ops split while porting our model-pull retry hardening
into it. Strip three narration comments the stricter comment lint
rejects.

When a run deploys both single-node modes, the host discovery redeployed roles the compose line already covers (e.g. web-svc-html in both matrices). The single-node workflow now signals a co-running compose line via INFINITO_HOST_EXCLUDE_COMPOSE (a run-context registry key like INFINITO_DEPLOY_MODE), and the host query excludes the compose line's actually-triggered selection before its own budget cut, so freed host slots go to roles compose does not cover. Priority and regular lines each filter against their own compose counterpart through the identical whitelist/blacklist pass-through; host-only runs stay unchanged.

Sort the new INFINITO_SWARM_* IP/subnet keys alphabetically in default.env, wire them through the static passthrough handler so make dotenv materialises them, and shorten the matomo DB-reset task name under the 80-char limit.

Resolves the runner Dockerfile to the lint-standard Acquire::Retries=3
and keeps the collabora TODO wording; hardens the merged tree for the
stricter lints (apt retries in the tor Dockerfile, shell-or-true
markers, comment cleanup).

Read INFINITO_LIFECYCLES from default.env via a new tested_lifecycles() helper; derive TESTED_LIFECYCLES, the README overview envelope, the guide-select role filter, and the invokable-lifecycle lint from it. Add "maintained" to the envelope and drop the redundant hardcoded "alpha beta rc stable" strings from workflows, CLI help, and docs.
Guide selection now skips pre-alpha/eol roles (153 -> 117 testable).

The cached YAML loader crashed on the !vault tag with a ConstructorError,
so any lint test that walks the tree and parses every .yml (yaml-syntax,
role/group-vars usage, ...) failed as soon as a vault-encrypted inventory
was present. Register a !vault constructor on SafeLoader that loads the
ciphertext as a plain scalar, mirroring the existing !override/!reset
handling.

Move the operator cheatsheet's copy-paste prompts into per-workflow i8- skills
that each route to their authoritative procedure doc, and reduce the cheatsheet
to a table index plus a usage paragraph, enforced by a new lint. Add skills for
develop, test, quality, refactor, the debug and requirement flows, and
commit / pull-request / push-trigger-pull; rename the iteration skills to
i8-iterate-* and rename the index to i8-help. Wire the active-listening,
dialectic, and robot skills into the flows for clarification, uncertain root
causes, and autonomous execution. Drop the Infinito-specific agent aliases
(alias.md, INFINITO_ALIAS_MD, the make alias agent section, and the two alias
tests); terminal aliases stay.

The provision include used a templated path, which the container-exec lint cannot follow, so its argv-form 'container exec' into the OpenProject container read as ungated and would fire on swarm workers (resolver exits 64). Switch to a static include the lint follows and carry IS_STACK_HOST on the include when, so workers skip the whole coupling as a unit. Also picks up the autoformat reflow of the diagnostics daemon-journal capture.

The repair services (rpr-container-soft/hard) emit a syslog 'infinito-kill' marker before they down/restart containers; the rescue collector captures containers/_kill-markers.txt (plus a 6h docker/containerd daemon journal) so a failure artifact names which service stopped containers.

Back to the pre-swarm-nfs-fix baseline:
- 5c2c8f531 + 985ec7eab: the swarm writer-quiesce DR drill. Deep-dive
attribution of CI run 29715516546 found it the dominant failure source
(17 of 23 jobs): [9b/9] handed-off generation mismatch, [6/9] quiesce
stack-rm network race, [4/9] remote-2-local pull stall, compose discourse
restore duplicate key.
- d6f980574: openproject swarm ingress to web:8080. Carried a leaking
proxy_internal_port lookup (no per-app default) that broke the seaweedfs
dependency front-proxy ('Key web not found'); the bypass-the-Apache-proxy
approach was never verified against downloads/X-Sendfile.
- 1dd153bad: xwiki replicas:1 + mem 3g. Did not resolve the xwiki superadmin
failure (still red in run 29715516546), so it is unverified.
Re-approach each from a clean baseline.

Defer Swarm SQL replay to the disposable DR drill so shared writers such as Discourse are stopped before the destructive restore. Verify the selected generation with before/after database probes while preserving the Compose restore path.
write_dotenv truncated .env in place, so a concurrent make dotenv (parallel
make test regenerates the shared file once per target) could expose a torn
half-written file to a sibling reader. Write a per-pid sibling temp with the
normal umask-respecting mode, then atomically rename it over .env.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
INFINITO_TEST_TYPE is a per-invocation label the Makefile sets differently
per parallel test target (external/integration/lint/unit), not a persistent
default. Registering it as a static passthrough key wrote a per-target-varying
value into the shared .env that make test regenerates concurrently, which
tears the file for the env-file schema lint. Drop it from default.env and the
passthrough handler and suppress the run.sh reference with the
makefile-supplied nocheck that lines 15 and 27 already use, hoisting the junit
path into a variable so the continuation line can carry it.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
logparse.parse_log does a one-shot read of a single deploy log with no
reuse, so the cached-read requirement does not apply; annotate the read
with a cache-read nocheck. The pytest_summary docstring shows the script
path as a usage example, not self-referential logic; annotate it with a
self-path-reference nocheck.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
run.sh reads INFINITO_TEST_TYPE for the per-target junit report filename
but the key was undeclared, failing the used-keys, dotenv-generator and
alphabetical-sort lints. Add the empty default to default.env (after
INFINITO_TEST_RUNNER) and wire it through the static passthrough handler
so make dotenv materialises it.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
parallel.sh mirrors its per-target wall-clock table into
GITHUB_STEP_SUMMARY, so make lint and make test render a target/status/
duration overview on the run page. The pytest runner writes junit XML
per suite into build/test-reports and test.yml renders them via
utils/github/pytest_summary.py: headline counts with total time,
failures opened with durations, every test collapsed slowest-first.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The swarm deploy job now renders the same summary page as compose:
role runtimes, a swarm structure section (topology roles plus live node
list and service placement from the manager) and the Playwright table.
The matrix deploy tees its ansible output and prints the compose
matrix-deploy round/PASS markers, so the runtime parser segments swarm
runs per variant round too.
The runtime table unifies tasks and roles with a Type column (tasks
first), appends the recap total row and flags a mismatch between the
parsed sum and the recap total; rows are read from ROLES RECAP sections
only, which removes the double-counted TASKS RECAP task rows. Each role
row carries one column per host: executed, skipped or failed, with
ignored failures downgraded. The Playwright variant column drops the
redundant variant- prefix. Verified against the logs of runs
29656268771 (swarm) and 29620158441 (compose): every segment's parsed
sum matches the recap total within 0.05s.

The separate CI job is gone; hadolint now runs as lint-dockerfile inside the parallel make lint fan-out through the standard wrapper, with the binary installed by the lint toolchain installer like every other tool. The SARIF gate script had no consumer left and is removed. Scope stays the root Dockerfile at the warning threshold, matching the old job.

The discovery SPOT (cli.meta.ci.query) now runs one query shape per mode:
compose and host stay whole-role with variants packed into bundles, swarm
ranks and budget-cuts on per-variant rows and emits role#variant tokens
through apps.sh into variant_bundles, so the cut can pick a subset of a
role's variants and the --matrix view is the selection priority.
Replace the --unique flag with visible dna/clone columns (heaviest role
per dna cluster stays ahead of the cut), add the integrated column and
sort, count host bundles like compose, and give the deploy plan an id
counter, per-variant weights and display-width-aware alignment matching
the matrix renderer. Add i8ma*/i8pa* inspection aliases per mode.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>
cli.meta.ci.query is the single source of truth for the app-discovery
query (filter, coverage-first sort, lifecycle envelope, compose
--unique, INFINITO_MAX_JOBS cap with 'auto'); apps.sh shrinks to one
call through it. cli.meta.ci.plan renders one section per deploy mode
in the query's own order (priority line starred, capped regular line,
then the candidates behind the cut), one row per variant, glossary
symbols in the header, with --cli for fixed-width terminal tables.
New glossary symbols: skip, priority, distros, unavailable.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
cli.meta.ci.slots statically and conservatively counts every job the
CI run spawns outside the deploy matrices (reusable workflows opened
recursively, static matrices multiplied out, dynamic ones estimated,
worst entry-*.yml overhead included) and splits the remaining
256-job run budget between compose/swarm/host by the _SHARES weights,
with a per-mode floor and _SLOT_OVERRIDES pins. INFINITO_MAX_JOBS
defaults to 'auto', resolved per mode in apps.sh; the host workflow
drops its hardcoded cap. --matrix renders the budget as a table.

A force_bridge app (matrix's MDAD flavor) deploys as a node-local compose stack and publishes its local port on its host, while openresty runs as an overlay task whose 127.0.0.1 is its own loopback; the readiness probe died on 502. The proxy_pass lookup now resolves networks.local.force_bridge (trust-tagged for the 2.19 templar, hard-failing on an unrendered template instead of silently falling back to loopback) and keys the decision on the real DEPLOYMENT_MODE, since such apps rewrite the effective mode to compose via compose_mode_force. The upstream becomes host.docker.internal:<local_port> rendered as a literal directive, because the request-time resolver cannot see /etc/hosts entries, and the swarm openresty service maps host.docker.internal to the host gateway like prometheus already does. Non-force_bridge renders stay byte-identical.

extend_inventory appended the volume, secrets and nfs backup groups to the test inventory unconditionally, so the DR-drill ran on hosts whose roles declare no backup. For roles whose only volume is backup-disabled (registries, unbound, redis, openresty) the volume drill produced a payload-less generation and failed its non-empty assertion. Each leg now follows the closure of the role that induces it: volume and (transitively, via volume-2-local's secrets_backup consumer) secrets on the app closure, nfs on svc-storage-nfs-server's closure via its nfs_backup consumer. Enumeration confirms no consumer-active role loses its leg; a README documents the group derivation.

The snapshot directory lives under the dump base (both derive from INFINITO_RESCUE_DIAGNOSTICS_DIR), so copytree copied its growing destination into itself until ENAMETOOLONG; the suppressed error left a local-dumps/<stamp>/local-dumps chain that failed the artifact upload of otherwise green jobs (swapfile, wireguard-plain). The copy now ignores the snapshot's own subtree and every ancestor holding it, which also excludes stale sibling snapshots of the same app; a regression test drives real copytree over the production topology.

Add cli.build.readme.overview (make readme-index / make docs) rendering a
roles overview in the root README: Name, Lifecycle, Homepage, Video,
Description, Integrated with, Install. New info-media lint requires
homepage + video in every invokable role's meta/info.yml (opt out via
'# nocheck: info-media' in meta/main.yml); backfilled 147 roles with
researched, adversarially-verified homepages and official videos.
Retire the 'unsupported' lifecycle value: fold it into 'eol' as a valid
live end-of-life status (shipped but untested/unmaintained) across the
stage lists, symbol glossary, allow-list lint and docs. Retag confluence,
jira, minio, phpldapadmin to eol and magento to pre-alpha.

The gitlab dedicated-postgres failure exhausted all 167 non-superuser slots, but the rescue artifact could not show which clients held them. The collector now dumps pg_stat_activity (per-backend rows, query truncated to 120 chars) and a usename/datname/state connection histogram for every container with postgres in its name, via psql over the container's peer-authenticated socket. Runs only in the failure path and capture() never raises, so a non-postgres name match just records the exec error.

test-deploy-single-node.yml bundles the compose and host deploy tests
behind one reusable workflow; the orchestrator gains a priority input
that deploys focus roles first per mode and runs the remaining roles
only after every priority job succeeded, excluded via the new
INFINITO_BLACKLIST discovery filter in apps.sh. entry-manual exposes
the priority field and treats priority-only dispatches as roles-only.
Workflow dependency diagram added under .github/workflows/README.md.

categories.yml now declares modes defaults per category (deepest match wins, parents apply as fallback): update, drv and svc-net disable compose and swarm (host-hardware and host-networking categories), svc-registry requires both enabled (CI bootstrap infrastructure). role_modes_defaults resolves a role's policy; the new category-modes lint requires every deploy-bearing service entry to declare exactly those modes.<mode>.enabled values explicitly, exempt via '# nocheck: category-modes' on the service key. update, the four drv roles and the three wireguard roles declare their values explicitly; the dict-valued modes meta key is excluded from the category-tree walkers.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>
roles/categories.yml now declares the ordered 'stages' and a per-category 'stage' (plus run_after and bootstrap). utils/roles/stage.py resolves a role to its stage and exposes stage_groups(); the new stage_groups lookup feeds the 01_constructor / 02_server / 02_workstation / 03_destructor group loops in place of their hardcoded lists. A static invariant test proves the lookup reproduces the exact previous loops, so the rendered plays (and deploy behavior) are unchanged.
cli.meta.roles.order.run orders its main phase by stage as a run_after tiebreak. plugins/filter/invokable_paths tolerates the new sibling 'stages' key, and the invokable-roles wiring test recognizes stage_groups-driven wiring.

Roles declared under meta/main.yml dependencies now appear on both the
Dependencies and Dependents side, labelled with the glossary gear
symbol and connected by a fixed 1:1 edge; the legend explains it. All
role READMEs regenerated.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Add cli/build/readme: derives each role README's managed sections from
templates/roles/README.md.j2.tmpl (the Cosmos mermaid diagram from
meta/services.yml, an invokable-gated Quick Setup, and Credits).
The Cosmos diagram shows dependencies, every declared service, and
dependents (roles that consume this one, matched by role name and by
provides provision-name in both directions). Role nodes carry deploy-mode
emoji markers (compose/swarm/host); disabled and shared services get a
stop mark; dependents are capped at 12.
test_readme enforces the Quick Setup body is byte-exact with the template
render. `make readme-generate` and `make cosmos` regenerate; `make cosmos`
also runs inside `make quality`.
Refactor: utils/symbol_glossary.py is the single source of truth for the
word/emoji mapping (unique project-wide), consumed by the complexity
matrix and the Cosmos builder. utils/roles/deploy.py holds role_has_stack
and role_deploy_modes, shared by both so the logic never drifts.
Add `make lint-mermaid` and its CI workflow, rendering every diagram via
mermaid-cli; the render step provisions chrome-headless-shell and unzip
on demand so it works in the minimal container.

meta/services.yml modes states where a role RUNS; a new meta/tests.yml
skip list deactivates TESTING a mode without touching that capability.
The table gains test_compose/test_swarm/test_host columns (base column
minus skip), --filter/--sort and the JSON/YAML payloads know the new
fields, and CI discovery (apps.sh) now filters on test_<mode> == true.
svc-storage-nfs-client is the first consumer and skips all three modes.
Also replaces the nine VS16-based header/lifecycle emojis (like the
old host/jobs/weight symbols) with East-Asian-Wide ones: terminals
render VS16 sequences 2 cells wide while the width model said 1,
shifting every header right of them off its column. A guard test pins
all table symbols to wide, VS16-free codepoints.

journalctl -n 1000 covered ~2 minutes on a busy node, so the kernel
and unit events of a failure 30+ minutes earlier were already gone
from the rescue artifact (run 29448092737 nc0: the 22:27 kill window
was unrecoverable). Capture a 10000-line tail plus a 6h warning-level
journal, the full dmesg ring, and drop the 80-line cap on the OOM
filter.

Surfaced by make quality: alias comments on i8matiso/i8mativaso/i8s; self-path nocheck + drop two narration comments in load.sh (venv note kept in the header); shorten the host deploy job name to <=80 chars; move the legend rationale from an inline comment into the docstring. Also move utils/env/handlers/infinito/fork_{account,repository_url}.py into a fork/ subfolder (shared-prefix rule) and update the handler imports.

Host lane for invokable non-stack roles (drivers, backup, wireguard, swapfile, ...). modes.host.enabled declared on 56 such roles; new lint test_role_host_mode enforces it. The complexity matrix gains a host column (not stack and modes.host.enabled), --deploy-mode host, and host bundles (one per variant); apps.sh accepts INFINITO_DEPLOY_MODE=host and filters host == true. New test-deploy-host.yml workflow (INFINITO_MAX_JOBS=10) deploys discovered host roles via the mode-agnostic ci/all.sh path, wired into ci-orchestrator (modes default 'swarm compose host').
Also: complexity -s/--symbol compact view (emoji-only headers, true/false as check/cross, lifecycle stage symbols, grouped legend with per-entry explanations, display-width aligned); stack column moved after host. scripts/meta/env/load.sh made zsh-compatible by delegating to bash and importing INFINITO_/PYTHON/VENV/PATH back.

Per-role deploy-mode opt-out moves from meta/tests.yml 'skip:' to meta/services.yml <entity>.modes.{compose,swarm}.enabled on the primary entity. get_role_skip now derives from it; get_role_mode_enabled added. A new lint requires every role shipping templates/*compose*.yml.j2 to declare both mode flags. Migrates 107 services.yml and drops 11 skip-only tests.yml. Also removes the variant_status deployability gate so swarm runs one job per variant unconditionally (variant_status.py and deployable_variant_indices deleted, complexity model simplified). Adds the i8matix alias.

INFINITO_FORK_REPOSITORY_NAME (default.env, static) plus two handlers: INFINITO_FORK_ACCOUNT defaults to the local OS username (getpass.getuser()), and INFINITO_FORK_REPOSITORY_URL composes https://github.com/<account>/<name>. Registered in ORDERED_HANDLERS with the account handler before the URL handler; documented in docs/contributing/environment/variables.md.
Two operator aliases build on it: i8cire (make quality + git-sign-push + retrigger the failed swarm CI jobs of a run) and i8puci (the same without the quality gate). Both take a run id or full URL: a bare id is expanded against INFINITO_FORK_REPOSITORY_URL, a URL is passed through, and a missing INFINITO_FORK_REPOSITORY_URL fails fast.

The docstrings claimed an all-off variant 'adds no coverage'. It does:
it is the role's standalone path (every optional service off). Reword to
the real reason swarm skips it — its overlay/placement/VIP risk lives in
the all-enabled variant and compose still runs the standalone path, so the
extra swarm runner is cost without new coverage. No behaviour change.
