kevinveenbirkenbach de95a95c65 fix(mcp): let the adapter sidecars report whether they serve
svc-ai-mcp-adapter declares its own probe - http_status on /health,
rendered through container_healthcheck - but the four roles that run it
write their sidecar block inline and dropped both halves. Without a
probe docker calls the container up while the process lives, which says
nothing about whether it answers.

CI named only baserow, because the rule skips a service the inventory
does not deploy and the other three have MCP off there. They carry the
same defect, so all four get the declaration.

The check cannot run locally at all: it sweeps every declared image
through the GHCR mirror, whose prefix only CI writes, so it skips here
by design. make quality-high was green and could not have been anything
else.

e3e81e816f made services.yml the place a probe is declared; the sidecars
were added afterwards and never picked it up.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 7162b7bf4c Merge fork/feature/svc-net-tor into feature/ai-agent-employees
834 commits from the Tor onion-service branch against 299 of ours, from merge
base 7b646bdece: 127 conflicted files, 3506 files changed.

The two sides are largely orthogonal. Theirs adds svc-net-tor and a `tor` service
across the role tree, plus two sweeping refactors: shipped scripts sorted by
language (files/ruby/, files/python/, files/shell/, scripts/lint/*.sh) and the
unit suite moved under tests/unit/python/. Ours is requirement 036, the native AI
gateway, plus the MCP role work. Most conflicts were both sides appending to the
same service map, resolved as unions.

Resolutions that were not unions:

Credentials moved namespace. Theirs renamed meta/schema.yml to meta/secrets.yml
and re-addressed credentials as secrets.credentials.<name>. Git carried our
litellm_api_key blocks through the rename, but every consumer we added still read
'credentials.<name>', which no longer resolves. All 45 call sites are migrated.

plugins/filter/container_volumes.py is deleted by theirs and relocated to
plugins/lookup/container_volumes.py, where it carries the same tmpfs defect our
f85996b43 had just fixed: a hard-coded {"size": ...} that silently drops a per
mount `mode`. The fix is re-applied in the relocated file, as that commit's merge
note anticipated.

compose.yml keeps only INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_REPORTS_BASE_DIR. Theirs also forwards
INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_STAGE_BASE_DIR; that line is deliberately dropped, per the
analysis recorded in 45804e9ad -- STAGE has a drift-proof role-vars fallback,
while forwarding it promotes a setdefault-pinnable .env value above that SPOT.

tasks/stages/01_constructor.yml takes their include, ./tasks/utils/setup/group.yml,
because their refactor removed tasks/groups/*-roles.yml, leaving our include
target nonexistent. Our task name is kept, since svc-virt is in the loop.

Makefile swarm-zombie is a union: their validate plus teardown, then our
lab_subnet cleanup, which their side dropped while leaving lab_subnet.sh as the
only orphaned reference in the file.

01_bootstrap.sh keeps our deterministic --ip pinning, which distinguishes an
already-attached node from a real failure, over their `|| true`.

Their language-sorted layout orphaned references our side still held: zammad's
two scripts/apply/*.rb, jenkins' java-with-ca-trust.sh, and the notify topics
their handlers renamed to hyphenated form. All corrected.

roles/sys-svc-compose/files/shell/swarm/stack_ready.sh gains our latched-update
block: paused, rollback_paused, rollback_started and rollback_completed exit 2
rather than polling a state that cannot resolve without another deploy.

config_from_run is unioned to (title, logged, jobs); the production caller in
trigger/__main__.py now passes jobs, without which our suite suppression would
have been inert.

READMEs are regenerated rather than hand-merged: 15 LiteLLM rows and 91 Tor rows
now derive from the merged metadata, which is itself evidence the meta merge is
coherent.

Verified: 5161 unit tests pass. The single failure, test_query.py TestSortSpec,
also fails on fork/feature/svc-net-tor at b51d2f9919, measured in a baseline
worktree -- so this merge introduces no new unit-test failure. Two modules are
excluded from that run because `baudolo`, a dependency their branch introduces,
is not installed on this host.
Not verified: no deploy has run against the merged tree, and make quality has not
been run end to end here.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 acc9e25c0f refactor(volumes): one canonical mount surface, context-wired lookups
The mount pipeline was split across two layers: compose_volumes and
container_volumes lived as filter modules that ansible's filter loader
rejected on every start ("has no attribute 'FilterModule'", two warnings
per run), while the same-named lookups wrapped them thinly. The filter
bodies now live inside their lookups (the tor_socks precedent), the
filter files are gone, and the render tests moved next to the lookup
tests.

As lookups they see the templating context, so the application_id term
every call site passed back to its own role is gone too: both lookups
read application_id from context and fail loudly when it is missing.
107 templates and nfs_prep.yml drop the term; the calls collapse to
lookup('compose_volumes') and lookup('container_volumes', service_name).

The container_volumes call is now canonical - four leading spaces,
service_name in the service position, | indent(4) - enforced by a new
lint (test_container_volumes_call_shape). Normalizing the 85 literal
call sites surfaced that erpnext keyed its meta/volumes.yml mounts by
container name instead of compose service key, the only role to do so;
its meta now uses the service keys. wordpress's column-0 call, which
rendered its first line at top level, is indented like every other.

Template logic that only restated meta/volumes.yml is deleted: mailu fed
compose_volumes an extra_volumes dict whose eight names were looked up
from the very meta file compose_volumes reads itself; zammad's init and
railsserver extra mounts were the volumes.yml entries minus the two
services, which the meta now lists (the when-gated OIDC binds included).
Conditionality that meta cannot express stays in code, but in role-local
lookup plugins instead of template loops: matrix_bridge_mounts renders
the per-bridge registration mounts, nextcloud_extra_volumes the
feature-gated whiteboard/recording volumes (type: volume entries are
declared unconditionally by compose_volumes, so gating must happen
before it).

Parity is proven, not assumed: every mechanically rewritten template is
byte-identical to HEAD after the transformation regexes (95/95), and the
semantic roles render identically through the real functions against
HEAD's meta - zammad across six sso/tls polarities, all seven erpnext
services, mailu's top level. make test-lint passes complete.

Also: suitecrm's compose template pins container_extra_hosts with
host_alias (the SOCKS proxy URL host.docker.internal never resolved in
compose+tor), and the five disabled mautrix bridge addons use the
empty-default config lookup so templating the applications dict stops
emitting 125 errors per batch in every CI job.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 13d4179aef fix(jenkins): wait for the recreated controller before probing the contract
The adapter flush notifies `compose up --force-recreate`, which recreates
every service in the project including the Jenkins controller. The contract
probe then ran 12 seconds after that recreate, while Jenkins was still
booting, so the upstream answered 401 and the probe reported the adapter as
refusing its own credential.

Extract the readiness wait so it can run twice and repeat it after the
flush. Bind the adapter to the controller with service_healthy as well:
that is what keeps gitea's sidecar out of this race, and swarm ignores the
condition, so the wait carries that mode.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 21888ef9a2 feat(jenkins): authenticate MCP callers through the adapter
The controller serves its MCP plugin endpoint to anonymous callers: the
deploy probe measured a 200, and the response carried the base64 of
'anonymous' in its reporting endpoint. The JCasC authorization strategy
grants anonymous nothing, so the plugin does not hang off it.

Front it with the svc-ai-mcp-adapter instance. Clients present mcp_bearer
to compose service jenkinsmcp and get a 401 otherwise; the adapter
presents the controller's own API token upstream over HTTP Basic.

Narrow the allowlist to the 15 read-only tools and record the 19 the
plugin serves as upstream_serves. The four write tools were advertised
while mutating_tools_enabled stayed false, so the adapter would have
refused them at call time: a dead surface a green deploy hides.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 29015311b6 feat(lint): derive container paths from meta/volumes.yml everywhere
meta/volumes.yml says where a volume lands inside its container. Wherever a
second file spelled the same path out, the two drifted independently: the mount
moves, the consumer keeps pointing at the old place, and nothing fails until the
process looks for content that is not there. e031b7f61 fixed exactly this for
web-app-moodle; this generalises it and makes the rule hold.

The lookup gains what a caller needs. `targets` maps each mounting service to
its container path, and `target` is the one path an entry mounts at -- present
only when every mount agrees. An entry that lands at different paths per service
omits `target` rather than picking one, and the caller names the service:

    "{{ lookup('volume', application_id, 'prometheus_config').target }}"
    "{{ lookup('volume', 'web-app-prometheus', 'host_sys').targets['node-exporter'] }}"

66 literals across 48 role files now derive. Replacement only happened where the
path stood alone -- /srv/app inside /srv/app/data is a different path -- and
every rewritten file was re-parsed, Jinja and YAML alike. Three sites the tool
refused rather than guess were done by hand: zammad's path sat in a Jinja list
literal, seaweedfs' inside a quoted string feeding a filter, and openresty's
/var/run/docker.sock is not a mount target at all but the socket on the host,
which only happens to spell the same string. That one carries the single
nocheck.

tests/lint/repository/spot/test_volumes_path_single_spot.py keeps it that way.
roles/*/files/ is out of scope by construction: it is copied verbatim into an
image and executed there, so a Dockerfile or entrypoint has no Ansible to
evaluate a lookup with.

One defect this found, and it was in the tooling rather than the roles: deciding
ambiguity AFTER filtering short paths made web-app-prometheus' host_sys look
single-valued -- it mounts /sys for cadvisor and /host/sys for node-exporter,
and /sys is below the length filter. The template would have rendered an
undefined `.target`. Both the converter and the rule now decide ambiguity over
every target and filter afterwards, and that call reads targets['node-exporter'].

Verified by resolving rather than by reading: all 70 accesses in the diff were
run against the real registry and every one yields a non-empty path equal to the
literal it replaced. make test-lint: 328 passed.

Not verified: no Ansible render, so a call site whose surrounding context cannot
build the applications registry would still fail at deploy.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 e3e81e816f refactor(healthcheck): declare probes in services.yml, render them from one lookup
Seven include templates under sys-svc-container decided how a container was
probed, and they read their inputs from template-local `{% set %}` scope.
That scope leaks: a value set for one service silently reached every service
below it, which is how taiga's front and gateway ended up probing a port
declared for a different service, and how bluesky's frontend probed a PDS
endpoint.

Probes now live in utils/docker/healthcheck.py, one class per flavor behind a
PROBES registry, and each service declares its own:

    healthcheck:
      flavor: curl
      path: health/ready
      start_period: 20m

`port_key` picks another entry under ports.internal for the services that
expose their probe elsewhere (keycloak on management, nextcloud talk on
signaling). Without a flavor the entry must carry an explicit test argv, so a
missing declaration fails loudly instead of rendering a probe against nothing.

Rendering HEAD's templates against the new output confirms 49 of 56 call
sites are byte-identical; the remaining seven are covered by an Ansible run.
Three probes change on purpose: erpnext's backend gains a check it never had,
bluesky's frontend drops the leaked PDS path, and msmtp_curl moves from a
hardcoded localhost:80 to the service's own port on 127.0.0.1 like every
other flavor.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 41efbeda11 feat(jenkins): serve MCP behind the controller's own credentials
Pin the MCP Server plugin and let a boot hook mint the API token MCP
clients present, then take that token over into sys-token-store and
verify it against the controller before the deploy continues.

Wait for the controller to answer before probing. A JCasC change restarts
Jenkins, and the probe carries no retries of its own, so a single 5xx
during startup failed the deploy with a credential that was valid all
along.

Authenticate with HTTP Basic. The plugin offers no bearer, which is why
basic_auth entered the service contract instead of the role working
around it.

Assert the guarded surface, not the handshake: the plugin answers
initialize anonymously because that call is capability negotiation and
carries no data, while an unauthenticated tools/list is refused and
leaks no tool inventory.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Fable 5 4a23e0cb09 feat(services): declare locally-built images via services.<key>.custom
The custom flag moves from 33 hardcoded template kwargs into the merged
service config: 'custom: true' names the shared <entity>_custom build,
a string names a second distinct '<string>_custom' image inside one app
(nextcloud whiteboard). The image lookup reads the declaration as a
fallback, so config consumers (e.g. backup image matching) resolve the
exact deployed reference from one declaration point. nextcloud cron now
runs the nextcloud_custom build like the app service instead of the
upstream image.

A new services lint couples the declaration to reality in both
directions: custom requires a role Dockerfile, and a role Dockerfile
requires a custom declaration. The eight legacy roles deploying local
builds under upstream tags or ad-hoc image= overrides are ratcheted via
'# nocheck: dockerfile-custom'.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.8 945fbccc1e refactor(swarm): move service_replicas into services.yml
Replace the per-role service_replicas Jinja variable with a per-service
replicas: field in meta/services.yml. deploy.yml.j2 resolves it via
resource_filter (with entity fallback), the same path already used for
cpus/mem, so services.yml is the single source of truth for replica
overrides.

- 13 web roles migrated to per-service (or entity-level) replicas: 1
- matomo bootstrap -> replicas: 0, mastodon migrate -> replicas: 1
- minio/seaweedfs provider entries -> replicas: 1, which also pins the
  central single-writer object-store providers instead of relying on the
  topology default
- service_replicas removed entirely; dropped its dead reference from the
  compose-structure lint allowlist and updated requirement 023 wording

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Fable 5 d9ebf47485 fix(web-app-jenkins): probe /login instead of the 403 root
The JCasC authorization is roleBased with no anonymous grant, so the
healthcheck's GET / received 403 in every variant and the swarm service
never became healthy. /login is served anonymously by core (200 for
local/LDAP realms, 302 for the OIDC realm; curl -f passes both),
matching the login/health endpoint idiom used by keycloak, checkmk and
others. Same probe in compose, where it upgrades a tolerated-unhealthy
container to healthy.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.8 d4ee9a85ba refactor(compose): align templates to the service_name skeleton
Every compose.yml.j2 now declares services as '{{ service_name }}:' with
its '{% set %}' knobs on two-space lines above the key, includes at four
spaces and if/for tags aligned to the content they wrap. The layout
renders correctly because stack_host_template enables lstrip_blocks for
compose.yml.j2; indent(4, True) in the container base and '{%+' guards
in whitespace-sensitive scalars keep the shared fragments identical
under both render modes. A new lint test enforces the skeleton.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.8 52418bb905 fix(web-app-jenkins): stop duplicate start_period in the healthcheck
The curl healthcheck include already emits start_period, and jenkins appended a second one (10m) right after the include, producing a duplicate mapping key so 'docker compose config' failed to parse (yaml: mapping key start_period already defined). Make the curl include's start_period overridable via container_healthcheck_start_period (default 30s, so the 26 other curl-include roles are unchanged) and have jenkins set it to 10m before the include instead of appending.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.8 042e4c886e fix(web-app-jenkins): give the healthcheck a 10m start_period
The shared curl healthcheck has no start_period, so swarm probes Jenkins

the task is marked unhealthy and e2e gets a 502. Add start_period: 10m.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.8 c11483fb9f fix(web-app-jenkins): pin the stateful singleton to one swarm replica
Jenkins inherited the 3-node topology default, but it is a stateful singleton (one NFS-backed JENKINS_HOME, no native active-active HA). Three replicas race on the shared home at boot (SEVERE plugin-load failures) and the OIDC state/nonce splits across the openresty VIP, so the anonymous redirect to Keycloak never completes (LDAP's single round-trip passes). Pin service_replicas=1 like matomo/erpnext; it stays a swarm service (scheduled + healed across the cluster), just not horizontally scaled.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.8 594109018a refactor(compose): publish every container port through the container_ports lookup
Take the host IP as an optional third element of each term
([service, protocol, host_ip]) instead of an ip= kwarg, and build the whole
ports: block from declared ports.local/public (host) + ports.internal
(container). Convert every compose template across 84 roles, folding the
remaining raw var/numeric/specific-ip mappings (including mailu's per-interface
mail ports bound to MAILU_IP4_PUBLIC). Multi-term calls render one term per line.

Add the compose-ports-must-use-container-ports lint: it forbids any raw
"<host>:<published>:<container>" publish item under a ports: block and requires
every term to declare ports.internal. Remove
tests/lint/roles/test_swarm_internal_ports.py, now subsumed.

Fix a container_depends_on rendering regression. The lookup self-indented
(default indent=4), so the added 4-space placement + | indent(4) triple-indented
the block. Flip the lookup default to column 0 (consistent with
container_networks), make every call use the 4-space + | indent(4) form, and add
a lint enforcing it.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.8 4c8a1ca59d refactor(compose): source published container ports from ports.internal
Rewrite every hardcoded literal container port in a compose.yml.j2 publish
mapping (- "<host>:<...ports.local|public.kind...>:<LITERAL>") to read the
declared ports.internal.<kind> via lookup, across 22 roles, so the published
(local/public) port and the container (internal) port are a single declared
source of truth. Mappings whose container already references the lookup or a
variable are left as-is.

This surfaced and fixed a real swarm bug: web-app-openproject declared
ports.internal.http: 8080 while the container actually listens on 80, so the
swarm resolve_upstream pointed openproject at the wrong port. Reconciled to 80
(the mapping's real container port).

Extend tests/lint/roles/test_swarm_internal_ports.py with a second check: a
published mapping's container segment must come from ports.internal via a lookup
(or a variable referencing it), never a hardcoded literal.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.8 25f286d2bf feat(swarm): per-service internal ports and entity-named services
Give each reverse-proxied app a swarm-resolvable upstream: add services.<entity>.ports.internal.http to the role metadata and rename the main compose service from the generic 'application' to the entity name, so its short DNS alias on the shared overlay is unique. kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 cb27ff3756 refactor(networks): replace Jinja includes with compose_networks/container_networks lookup plugins
Convert the two registry-driven networks templates into pure-Python
rendering functions plus thin Ansible lookup plugins:

  roles/sys-svc-compose/templates/networks.yml.j2  -> {{ lookup('compose_networks') }}
  roles/sys-svc-container/templates/networks.yml.j2 -> {{ lookup('container_networks') | indent(4) }}

The rendering logic lives in utils/networks/render.py as pure-Python
functions that take a registry + closure-style config/database lookups,
making the logic directly unit-testable without a Jinja stub harness.
The lookup plugins are thin wrappers that resolve application_id,
DEPLOYMENT_MODE, and swarm.network.encryption from the templar, build
the service_registry, and forward to the render functions.

Migrate 233 include lines across 85 production templates. Convert
web-app-matrix's hand-coded MDAD networks block (default + conditional
postgres + conditional openldap) to the generic lookup; this adds an
openresty attachment when services.sso.enabled (harmless extra
interface, pinned in test_matrix_mdad_consumer_attaches_postgres_ldap_sso).

Mark local-DB / redis sidecars (sys-svc-rdbms/templates/services/,
svc-db-redis/templates/service.yml.j2) with `# nocheck: networks-literal`
because they intentionally attach to default-only.

Extend the lint to scan ALL roles/*/templates/**/*.yml.j2 (not only
compose.yml.j2) and to forbid the legacy include form; the marker
above is the documented escape hatch.

Coverage:
  - tests/unit/utils/networks/test_render.py (30 cases incl. encrypted=false literal pin)
  - tests/unit/plugins/lookup/test_compose_networks.py (5 cases incl. lookup_loader arg-schema)
  - tests/unit/plugins/lookup/test_container_networks.py (5 cases incl. lookup_loader arg-schema)

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 0ffbb73d72 refactor(images): central container_image lookup + migrate all roles
Add plugins/lookup/container_image.py: returns the full `image: "<ref>"`
line so templates drop the redundant image: prefix and surrounding
quotes. Supports `custom=True` to auto-construct `<entity_name>_custom`
for locally-built images, plus explicit `image=`/`version=` overrides
for exotic cases (taiga back-auth/front-oidc variants, decidim infinito
suffix, etc.).

* 25 unit tests for the lookup cover compose vs swarm prefix, custom
  flag, overrides, tag_only=True, missing version warnings.
* New strict lint (tests/lint/.../test_no_raw_image_in_compose_templates)
  fails on any raw `image:` line in roles/*/templates/*.j2 unless
  nocheck-suppressed. Legacy `image: "{{ lookup(...) }}"` form no
  longer accepted.
* Migrate 159 image refs across ~80 roles to the standalone
  `{{ lookup('container_image', application_id, '<service_key>') }}`
  form. 26 roles use `custom=True` (mariadb, postgres, openldap,
  jenkins, jira, gitlab, nextcloud, mediawiki, shopware, wordpress,
  odoo, joomla, openproject, bookwyrm, espocrm, hugo, littlejs,
  fediwall, roulette-wheel, openresty, confluence and more).
* Fix svc-db-redis application_id leak: service.yml.j2 is included
  into consuming roles where application_id evaluates to the outer
  role, so the image lookup needs the hardcoded 'svc-db-redis'.
* Integration tests (test_templates_require_image,
  test_build_requires_image) recognise the standalone lookup as an
  implicit `image:` at the same indent.
* Mediawiki swarm tasks: add explicit `:{{ MEDIAWIKI_VERSION }}` to
  the registry-prefixed image string because the custom var is now
  bare.

Only 3 legitimate exotic nocheck-suppressed image lines remain:
matrix-mdad runner (nested services.matrix.runner.image path),
matrix mautrix bridges (per-iteration dynamic) and svc-registry-docker
(chicken-and-egg self-reference).

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 6e49fe74fb feat(volumes): canonical dict-of-dicts meta schema + lookup('volume')
Migrate every role's meta/volumes.yml from ad-hoc dict-of-named-volumes
to a canonical dict-of-dicts schema where the YAML key is the semantic
short name and the entry body carries type / name / source / mounts /
nfs / mode / read_only. The optional 'name:' field is the docker volume
name (defaults to the key); the previous 'docker_name:' field is gone.

What's in this commit (210 paths):

Infrastructure (23)
- New filter plugins/filter/{compose,container}_volumes.py — render the
  top-level volumes:/configs:/secrets: section and per-service mount
  blocks from the canonical meta. container_volumes uses the SEMANTIC
  name as per-service mount source so it resolves against compose_volumes'
  top-level dict key (docker_name as source produced 'undefined volume'
  on swarm).
- New lookup plugins/lookup/{compose,container,volume}_volumes.py.
  volume(application_id, name) returns a normalised single entry;
  volume(application_id) returns the whole canonical dict.
- utils/cache/applications.py keeps a sibling registry
  _CANONICAL_VOLUMES_BY_ROLE outside the merged applications payload so
  raw Jinja source: strings never enter the templar walk (root-cause of
  the 200x cache-miss + recursive get_merged_applications storm).
- utils/roles/applications/mounts.py — schema validator + normaliser;
  list-shape is rejected.
- plugins/lookup/nginx.py: _volume_path_by_name reads canonical directly.
- scripts/tests/deploy/swarm/_context.sh: NFS_VOLUMES extraction handles
  both legacy dict and canonical dict shapes.
- roles/svc-prx-openresty/handlers/restart_and_validate.yml: gate
  compose-only validate+reload behind a single when-block; swarm uses
  service-update instead (bind-mounts of a FILE pin source inode at
  task-create time, so atomic write-tmp+rename leaves the running task
  on a deleted inode).
- roles/sys-svc-compose/tasks/utils/nfs_prep.yml: switch to
  lookup('volume', application_id) | dict2items so NFS subdir
  pre-creation works under the new cache split.

Tests (12)
- New strict lints flagging inline mount sections in compose templates,
  single-file bind mounts, and legacy lookup('config', ..., 'volumes.X.Y')
  call sites — all volume-mount surfaces MUST flow through container_volumes
  / compose_volumes / volume lookups.
- Integration: test_volumes_compose_chain + test_volume_constants_are_lookups
  accept both the legacy and the new lookup('volume', app, 'X').name forms
  during the migration window.
- Unit tests for the new lookup, filter, mounts helper, plus updated
  nginx lookup test.
- Prometheus role-wiring test reads canonical meta for the
  alert_rules.yml bind mount.

Role migrations (175)
- 62 meta/volumes.yml converted to dict-of-dicts canonical shape
- 63 templates/compose*.yml.j2 replace inline volumes:/configs:/secrets:
  with lookup('container_volumes', application_id, '<service>') |
  indent(N) per service + a single trailing lookup('compose_volumes',
  application_id) for the top-level block
- 50 vars/main.yml drop dead volume constants and refactor 23 remaining
  legacy lookup('config', ..., 'volumes.X.Y') to lookup('volume',
  application_id, 'X').Y across 9 roles

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 1d322f4e10 refactor(compose): replace lookup('applications') | compose_volumes(...) pipe with lookup('compose_volumes', ...)
Single SPOT lookup `plugins/lookup/compose_volumes.py` absorbs the
applications-lookup pipe step and auto-wires `DEPLOYMENT_MODE` plus
the `storage` group var from the templating context. Callers only
pass what genuinely varies per service (`application_id` and an
optional `extra_volumes` dict).

Behavior change (bug fix): the filter was always invoked with the
default `deployment_mode='compose'` because no caller passed it
explicitly, which silently skipped the swarm-NFS driver-opts
injection path. The lookup reads `DEPLOYMENT_MODE` from globals,
so swarm-NFS volumes now render the `driver: local` / `driver_opts:
type: nfs` block correctly. Callers can still override via
`deployment_mode=` / `storage=` kwargs when a template needs
non-default rendering.

Other coordinated changes:
- 81 template call sites migrated from pipe form to lookup form
  (single-line and multi-line shapes).
- `FilterModule` registration in plugins/filter/compose_volumes.py
  removed so the deprecated pipe form fails fast at render time.
  The underlying `compose_volumes()` function stays exported and is
  imported by the new lookup plus the existing 21-test filter unit
  test module.
- 10 new lookup unit tests pin the contract (term shape, kwargs
  pass-through, auto-wiring, override precedence, error cases).
- Integration test `test_compose_volumes_call_required.py` updated:
  asserts the new lookup form is present in every `compose.yml.j2`
  and adds a second test forbidding the deprecated pipe form
  anywhere under `roles/**/templates/`.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 587a3a1796 feat(swarm): consolidate container_name + pull_policy into generic compose_only lookup
Replace per-key `compose_container_name` lookup with a generic
`compose_only(key, value)` SPOT that emits `key: "<value>"` only in
compose mode and nothing in swarm. Same gating logic now serves
container_name (157 call sites) and pull_policy (17 call sites)
without duplicate plugin code.

Why this consolidation:
- The earlier `build-key` lint rule was misdirected. Swarm tolerates
  `build:` with a harmless warning when `image:` is pre-pushed (via
  the existing handlers/swarm_registry_push.py flow in
  roles/sys-svc-compose). The actual swarm-rejected key is
  `pull_policy:` ("Additional property pull_policy is not allowed"),
  and 10 templates were silently broken because they declared inline
  `pull_policy: never` outside the existing `{% if DEPLOYMENT_MODE
  \!= 'swarm' %}` gate in roles/sys-svc-container/templates/build.yml.j2.
- A single generic lookup is cleaner than N per-key wrappers when
  the gating logic is identical (emit-key-or-nothing).

Lint changes in tests/lint/ansible/jinja/test_mode_incompatible_keys.py:
- New `pull-policy-key` rule, regex `^\s*pull_policy\s*:`, remediation
  points at compose_only.
- Existing `container-name` rule keeps its raw-key regex; remediation
  now also points at compose_only.
- Broken-split / broken-embed regexes rekeyed on the `compose_only`
  lookup name (was `compose_container_name`).
- `build-key` rule and its 12 nocheck annotations across templates
  removed.

Coordinated changes:
- 86 templates rewritten (157 container_name calls migrated;
  17 inline pull_policy lines replaced).
- 1 redundant `{% if DEPLOYMENT_MODE \!= 'swarm' %}` guard dropped in
  build.yml.j2 (the lookup self-gates).
- 12 unit tests pin the compose_only contract.
- Catalog (suppression.md) updated: `pull-policy-key` row added,
  `container-name` row remediation updated.
- Old `plugins/lookup/compose_container_name.py` and its test module
  deleted.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 a0f0e3ac03 feat(swarm): SPOT lookup gates container_name emission per deploy mode
container_name is illegal in swarm mode when replicas > 1 (docker rejects
with "services.deploy.replicas: can't set container_name and X as container
name must be unique"). All compose.yml.j2 templates now route through a
single lookup that suppresses the key in swarm mode and emits it in compose
mode.

SPOT: plugins/lookup/compose_container_name.py
  Reads DEPLOYMENT_MODE from the templating context, returns
  'container_name: "<name>"' under compose and an empty string under swarm.
  Call sites read:

      {{ lookup('compose_container_name', MY_CONTAINER) }}

  No explicit DEPLOYMENT_MODE pass-through needed.

Sweep: 82 templates rewritten across roles/web-app-*, roles/web-svc-*,
roles/svc-*, plus 4 partial includes (sso_proxy, redis, mariadb, postgres).
For container names assembled from multiple Jinja fragments the args use
tilde concat (X ~ '-' ~ Y) so the lookup receives a single resolved string
and the call stays a single well-formed Jinja expression.

Lint: tests/lint/ansible/jinja/test_no_raw_container_name.py blocks
  (a) raw 'container_name:' YAML keys in any roles/*/templates/**/*.j2,
  (b) split-Jinja regression where the outer braces close mid-call:
      {{ lookup('compose_container_name', A }}-{{ B) }},
  (c) embedded-Jinja regression inside a string argument:
      lookup(..., "{{ X }}_suffix") (removed in ansible-core 2.23).
  The (b) and (c) regexes accept either single- or double-quoted lookup
  name and scan the full file so multi-line shapes also surface. Suppress
  per-site with '# nocheck: container-name' on the same or preceding line.

Tests: tests/unit/plugins/lookup/test_compose_container_name.py pins the
lookup contract: compose vs swarm output, whitespace tolerance, default-to
compose when DEPLOYMENT_MODE is absent, AnsibleError on missing or excess
terms, non-string name coercion.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 5adf3011fe refactor(swarm-nfs): generalize swarm+NFS chain across all roles
Migrate the mediawiki-specific swarm patterns into shared sys-svc-compose
helpers so every role inherits swarm + NFS portability:

- meta/volumes.yml: dict schema with mandatory name|path + optional nfs
  block (uid/gid/mode); 47 roles migrated, 48 lookup consumers updated to
  volumes.<key>.{name,path}
- sys-svc-compose helpers: finalize.yml (flush + post_deploy),
  post_deploy.yml (swarm-resolve + DB-healthy-wait), nfs_prep.yml
  (pre-create NFS subdirs), swarm/resolve_self.yml (canonical
  <ENTITY>_CONTAINER fact), render_replicated_templates.yml +
  _render_one_template.yml (template render + swarm-peer replication,
  per-entry notify, fileglob support)
- 15 roles migrated to render_replicated_templates.yml helper
  (mediawiki, prometheus, kix, friendica, dashboard, nextcloud,
  suitecrm, matrix, flowise, openldap)
- 5 new lint tests pin the architecture: volumes schema, compose chain,
  volume-constants-are-lookups, template-render-centralization,
  meta-no-role-var-refs
- ROLE_FILE_TEMPL_COMPOSE SPOT constant + 7 tests migrated to use it
- Handler test scanner extended to detect nested notify in
  vars: role_templates: lists

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 91c57e0471 feat(req-013): alpha-to-beta promotion for 13 in-scope roles
Promote akaunting, baserow, bluesky, bookwyrm, bridgy-fed, flowise,
fusiondirectory, jenkins, joomla, minio, postmarks, libretranslate, xmpp
from `lifecycle: alpha` to `lifecycle: beta` per requirement 013.
socialhome stays alpha (operator-excluded).

SSO/LDAP integration per role:
- minio + jenkins + joomla + fusiondirectory: native first-party paths
  (MINIO_IDENTITY_OPENID/_LDAP, oic-auth + ldap + role-strategy JCasC,
  plg_system_keycloak, LDAP-as-storage). All V0+V1 verified.
- akaunting, baserow, bookwyrm, flowise, postmarks, libretranslate:
  oauth2-proxy perimeter gate as universal glue path. Native in-app
  OIDC integrations deferred to follow-up issues #219 (Baserow),
  #220 (BookWyrm), #221 (Akaunting).
- bluesky: variant A+ login-broker (oauth2-proxy → broker → social-app)
  with AES-256-GCM-encrypted PDS app-passwords cached in-process
  (Keycloak user-attribute storage caused LDAP federation conflicts
  that broke other realm-clients' OIDC logins).
- xmpp: native ejabberd LDAP backend for both variants
  (mod_oauth2_client is contrib-only and deferred).
- bridgy-fed: documented SSO/LDAP/RBAC exception (federated source-
  platform auth, no local user table).

Project-wide bugfixes:
- web-app-oauth2-proxy: propagate X-Forwarded-User /
  -Preferred-Username / -Email / -Groups via auth_request_set bridge
  (set_xauthrequest + pass_user_headers in cfg + nginx headers in
  following_directives.conf). Benefits all 8 oauth2-proxy consumers.
- scripts/tests/deploy/local/deploy/fresh-kept-app.sh: bake
  `RUNTIME=dev` into the matrix-init host vars so the Playwright
  E2E gate fires (was silently skipped on kept-deploys).

From-scratch role implementations: jenkins (JCasC + plugin pre-bake +
JVM cacerts CA-trust entrypoint), fusiondirectory (LDAP-as-storage
compose), xmpp (ejabberd LDAP backend ejabberd.yml).

Verification:
- Per-role baseline: each in-scope role passed standalone V0/V1
  Playwright suites green.
- Multi-app fresh-purged-apps over all 13 in-scope roles
  (FULL_CYCLE=true): Pass 1 sync + Pass 2 async both `failed=0`,
  every role's Playwright suite green.

Doc 013 acceptance section reflects the divergences (oauth2-proxy
glue path, in-memory bluesky cache, deferred contrib modules) with
explicit follow-up issue references.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 ed04dad5d5 refactor(meta): land req-008/009/010 role-meta layout/networks/ports/run_after migration
Single atomic landing for three back-to-back role-meta refactor requirements
(see docs/requirements/008-role-meta-layout.md, 009-per-role-networks-and-ports.md,
010-role-meta-runafter-lifecycle-migration.md).

req-008 — role meta layout
  * Move every role's metadata under meta/<topic>.yml with file-root
    convention (no wrapping key matching the basename):
      - schema/main.yml + config/main.yml.credentials → meta/schema.yml
      - users/main.yml                                → meta/users.yml
      - config/main.yml.server                        → meta/server.yml
      - config/main.yml.rbac                          → meta/rbac.yml
      - config/main.yml.compose.services + every other top-level key
        of config/main.yml inlined under <entity>.<key>
                                                      → meta/services.yml
      - config/main.yml.compose.volumes               → meta/volumes.yml
  * Drop the legacy schema/, users/, config/ directories from every role.
  * meta/schema.yml: support nested credential keys, optional `default:`
    field (Jinja literal, not rendered/validated/regenerated), implicit
    `algorithm: plain`.
  * Materialised paths drop the `compose.` prefix:
      compose.services.<e>.<…> → services.<e>.<…>
      compose.volumes.<k>      → volumes.<k>
      <former-top-level>.<…>   → services.<entity_name>.<former-top-level>.<…>
  * Update every Python consumer (utils/cache, utils/manager, utils/applications,
    plugins/lookup, plugins/filter, cli/*) plus every Jinja template, vars/*.yml
    and task file to the new paths.
  * No legacy fallback. Repository-wide grep for `compose.services.` /
    `compose.volumes.` / `schema/main.yml` / `users/main.yml` / `config/main.yml`
    is empty outside docs/requirements/ and tasks/utils/migrate_meta_layout.py.
  * Add tests/lint/repository/test_role_meta_layout.py guarding against the
    old paths returning, and an explicit lint guard that meta/variants.yml
    files do not carry a `compose:` wrapper.

req-009 — per-role networks/ports
  * Move group_vars/all/08_networks.yml.defaults_networks.local.<role>.{subnet,
    dns_resolver} into roles/<role>/meta/server.yml.networks.local.{subnet,
    dns_resolver}.
  * Delete group_vars/all/09_ports.yml entirely; ports now live on the
    service entity that exposes them at
    roles/<role>/meta/services.yml.<entity>.ports.{inter,local,public}.
  * Rename + int-cast every former top-level `services.<entity>.port`
    field to `services.<entity>.ports.inter` (single int).
  * Always-category-keyed maps for ports.local / ports.public; relay
    spans use {start, end} integers.
  * Add PORT_BANDS map to group_vars/all/08_networks.yml — single source
    of truth for the per-<scope>.<category> band ranges, consumed by both
    the new CLI helpers and the lint test.
  * New CLI helpers (cli meta ports suggest, cli meta networks suggest)
    walk the live role tree gap-first then increment-fallback, with
    deterministic output and non-zero exit on capacity overflow.
  * cli create role consumes both helpers when scaffolding a new role.
  * Lint extensions: bare-int port shape rejection, host-bound port
    collision check (single ints + relay span integers, inter excluded),
    band-membership check with documented allow-list for the legacy
    web-app-bigbluebutton.bigbluebutton.local.http: 48087 entry.

req-010 — run_after / lifecycle migration
  * Move galaxy_info.run_after and galaxy_info.lifecycle out of
    meta/main.yml into meta/services.yml.<primary_entity>.{run_after,
    lifecycle}; <primary_entity> is the value returned by
    get_entity_name(role_name).
  * For multi-entity roles whose primary entity has no compose service
    (web-app-bluesky → bluesky, web-app-matrix → matrix, desk/dev/drv/
    gen roles), create a dedicated metadata-only top-level entry under
    <primary_entity>.
  * Introduce utils/roles/meta_lookup.py with get_role_run_after /
    get_role_lifecycle that resolve <primary_entity> once and read from
    meta/services.yml; degrade gracefully when meta/services.yml is
    absent OR the field is absent; raise MetaServicesShapeError when the
    file exists but is malformed.
  * Update every consumer (utils/service_registry, utils/invokable,
    cli/meta/applications/resolution/run_after/__main__, cli/meta/roles/
    lifecycle_filter/__main__, cli/meta/applications/resolution/combined,
    cli/build/{tree,graph,role_include}, cli/deploy/development/{common,
    init,deps,deploy}, plugins/filter/canonical_domains_map, etc.) to
    use the helper.
  * Lint guards: no run_after/lifecycle in meta/main.yml; lifecycle
    values restricted to {planned,pre-alpha,alpha,beta,stable,deprecated};
    run_after/lifecycle never on a non-primary entity; empty run_after
    lists rejected.

Also folded into this change set
  * services_disabler now writes `services.<svc>.{enabled,shared}` into
    host_vars instead of the old `compose.services.<svc>.{...}` path; the
    discover/find pair walks meta/services.yml and only treats entries
    carrying enabled/shared/provides as provider declarations (so
    metadata-only entries from req-010 do not create spurious provider
    rows).
  * service_registry skips `run_after` deps whose target was filtered
    out via SERVICES_DISABLED instead of failing the whole load.
  * cli/mirror/resolver and cli/create/inventory/mirror_overrides emit/
    consume the new applications.<role>.services.<svc>.image shape
    (mirror.md updated to match).
  * utils/domains/list.build_applications_from_roles now reads
    meta/server.yml directly (it had been silently returning {} since
    config/main.yml stopped existing).
  * utils/roles/resource_validation.filter_roles_by_min_storage reads
    meta/services.yml.<entity>.min_storage instead of the legacy
    compose.services path.
  * web-app-bluesky pre-clones the social-app build context BEFORE
    sys-svc-compose so the build context is on disk by the time
    sys-stk-front-proxy/tasks/main.yml flushes the docker build handler.
  * 4 meta/variants.yml files (svc-ai-ollama, web-app-phpmyadmin,
    web-app-wordpress, web-app-keycloak) lose their `compose: services:`
    wrapper so deep-merge over meta/services.yml lands on the new
    file-root shape.

Validation
  * Unit tests:        1571 passed.
  * Lint tests:        50 passed.
  * Integration tests: 161 passed (1 skipped).
  * Full-cycle fresh-purged-apps deploy succeeded for the 8-app validation
    set: web-app-{nextcloud,wordpress,yourls,bigbluebutton,bluesky,gitea,
    discourse,mattermost}.
