Twelve conflicts, resolved by intent rather than by side.
Six shared one shape: the incoming side adds the new rescue_index.sh call but
drops this branch's `# nocheck: shell-or-true` markers. The markers carry a
lint contract here, so the incoming structure was taken and the markers put
back — dedicated.sh, guide/one.sh, guide/host_deploy.sh, swarm/routine/00_one.sh
and trigger_units.sh, where the incoming version additionally writes the full
journal to a file instead of only echoing a tail.
web-app-matrix keeps HEAD's _synapse_extra_args accumulator (the superset: CA
mount plus the onion case) but adopts the incoming improvement inside it — the
inlined regex_replace gives way to lookup('subnet_gateway').
handlers/__init__.py drops rescue_diagnostics_dir from the old import group
(the incoming side moved it under .infinito.rescue, keeping both would import
it twice) and keeps tor_socks_port, a HEAD-only handler ORDERED_HANDLERS still
needs.
svc-bkp-volume-2-local takes the incoming side throughout: both branches landed
the same feature, but swarm-nfs evolved it — the knob moved from the global
STORAGE_BACKUP_SNAPSHOT_MODE to services.volume-2-local.snapshot_mode, plus the
subvolume helper, 04_snapshot_subject.yml, meta/packages.yml and baudolo 3.2.2.
Three files that left behind were removed: files/baudolo_snapshot.py and the two
worktree tests at their pre-refactor paths, all byte-identical to their moved
counterparts.
Six follow-on failures the merge produced, fixed at the root:
- STORAGE_BACKUP_SNAPSHOT_MODE lost its last reader with the config-lookup
design and is gone from group_vars.
- utils/github/variant_bundle_limits.py sat next to variant_bundles.py, which
the prefix lint forbids; the pair now lives in utils/github/variant/ as
bundles.py and bundle_limits.py, with the -m entry point, the ruff
per-file-ignore, the design-doc link and the mirroring test path updated.
- The incoming WordPress addon spec navigated with a raw page.goto and carried
three bare timeout literals; both route through gotoOnion and resolveTimeout
now, which is what makes navigation survive onion transport.
- Six unmarked `|| true` got a concrete reason each: docker.socket is absent on
distros that ship docker without it, the loop device is already detached when
the probe failed before attaching, and modprobe zfs may fail because the
/dev/zfs check decides.
make quality green across all four targets. The cold-domains budget test that
had to be waived here passes on its own now — 19d56f07e raises it to 100s.

variant_bundle_limits.py next to variant_bundles.py formed the prefix group
'variant', which the structure lint reads as a folder in disguise. It stayed
green locally because that lint asks git ls-files: the new file was untracked
through every quality run and only became visible once committed. CI saw it
immediately - the sole failure of run 30675284663.
Both move to utils/github/variant/ as bundles.py and limits.py, and the test
mirrors along.
The BLE001 per-file ignore is removed rather than repointed. parse_size raises
humanfriendly.InvalidSize for a malformed string and TypeError only for a
non-string, and the value reaching it is always str - so the catch-all was
never needed. Measured, not assumed.

A role with a Model Context Protocol surface declares one mcp: entry in
meta/services.yml. The vocabulary module owns every allowed value, a hard
lint validates each declaration, and roles_with_service gains an opt-in
direction= kwarg so a client role resolves its servers at deploy time.
The lookup stays backwards compatible: without direction= the entries
keep their original four keys, so the existing dashboard, prometheus and
matomo callers are untouched. With it, each entry additionally carries
transport, auth, auth_subject and an endpoint dict whose port is
resolved from the referenced service's ports.local or ports.internal.
The lint rejects Jinja on MCP-specific fields (only enabled/shared may
carry it) because the static resolver cannot evaluate a templated block,
and it verifies that endpoint.service_key names a service in the same
file whose ports.* actually contain endpoint.port_key.

Add cli.build.readme.overview (make readme-index / make docs) rendering a
roles overview in the root README: Name, Lifecycle, Homepage, Video,
Description, Integrated with, Install. New info-media lint requires
homepage + video in every invokable role's meta/info.yml (opt out via
'# nocheck: info-media' in meta/main.yml); backfilled 147 roles with
researched, adversarially-verified homepages and official videos.
Retire the 'unsupported' lifecycle value: fold it into 'eol' as a valid
live end-of-life status (shipped but untested/unmaintained) across the
stage lists, symbol glossary, allow-list lint and docs. Retag confluence,
jira, minio, phpldapadmin to eol and magento to pre-alpha.

One module per concern, mirroring the inventory/ subpackage layout:
run.py (single deploy pass + env forwarding SPOT), drill.py (recover
drill, host mode exempt, paths from CONTAINER_REPO_ROOT instead of a
hardcoded /opt/src/infinito), purge.py (inter-round cleanup) and
cli.py (arg parsing + round/pass loop, PASS 1/2 deduplicated).
Also extend the comment linter to flag bare string-expression
statements outside docstring position in Python: a triple-quoted
literal floating in a body is a comment in disguise and now runs
through the same validity rules; docstrings and PEP 224 attribute
docstrings stay allowed. Test narration comments moved into method
docstrings accordingly, and the design docs now link deploy/cli.py.

Move files that share a delimiter-bounded name prefix within a folder (threshold 2) into a subfolder named after the prefix, dropping the prefix from the filename. Covers plugins/filter (docker, generate, has, merge, get/all), env handler subpackages, utils/roles/entity, utils/tests/swarm/write, role SQL/scripts/templates, keycloak/mailu task-includes, shared tasks/utils/load, and CI scripts. Update every import, query_file/script/include_tasks/src/lookup target, compose bind mount, and python -m path to the new locations.
Extend the prefix-grouped-files lint to threshold 2 with dir-level .nocheck and file-head nocheck opt-outs, and skip groups whose shortest member's stem equals the shared prefix. Keep flat only where a loader forbids nesting: WordPress mu-plugins and the docs/requirements namespace. Ansible filter discovery is recursive, so nested filters stay Jinja-resolvable.

Inventory include sets ignored the active variant: swarm
derive_includes walked the variant-free base config (dynamic service
flags count as enabled) and the compose CombinedResolver followed
run_after as an include edge. Providers a variant pins to false
(e.g. mobilizon variant 1 sso) were still deployed.
- derive_includes: swap every app listed in INFINITO_APP_VARIANTS to
its variant config, index 0 included (nextcloud variant 0 disables
11 partner services)
- CombinedResolver: follow_run_after flag; include resolution passes
False so run_after stays a pure ordering hint
- drop dead deps.py chain (resolve_deploy_ids_for_*) and unused
resolve_with_edges; rewiring them would resurrect variant-blind
run_after-following includes
- inventory.md: document the real include pipeline and
is_explicit_truth semantics

Extract the csp, domains, and networks blocks out of roles/*/meta/server.yml
into dedicated meta files, each mapping to its own top-level applications key
via the recursive meta-walk:
csp: -> meta/csp.yml -> applications.<app>.csp
domains: -> meta/domains.yml -> applications.<app>.domains
networks: -> meta/networks.yml -> applications.<app>.networks
Residual nginx/proxy keys (status_codes, client_max_body_size, locations,
ip6_enabled, config_upstream_url) stay in server.yml; an emptied server.yml is
deleted. 98 server.yml -> 249 new files, 74 deleted.
- Consumers repointed applications.<app>.server.{csp,domains,networks} ->
applications.<app>.{csp,domains,networks} across templates, vars, tasks,
lookups and filters.
- Infra readers migrated: canonical_domains_map, application_domain_index,
build_ldap_role_entries, service-registry overlay discovery,
roles_with_service, and the file-based readers utils/domains/list.py +
utils/meta/scan.py (read the now-deleted server.yml directly).
- Detection + mapping: _META_TOPICS gains csp/domains/networks;
ROLE_FILE_META_{CSP,DOMAINS,NETWORKS} constants + ROLE_FILES entries.
- New self-expiring lint guard (test_server_meta_no_split_fields) fails if a
server.yml still carries a split field; auto-fails from 2026-12-28 as a
delete reminder.

Resolve 69 conflicts across ~70 files: union main's image-version bumps and new service fields (bond, resource limits) with the swarm branch's default_placement / NFS / IS_STACK_HOST config; retire the three per-deploy-type test workflows main still edited (consolidated into compose+swarm); adopt main's run-once 01_core dispatchers while re-applying each role's swarm guard. Fix the post-merge lint surfaced by main's stricter rules: bond + resource-budget keys, container-exec stack-host gating + resolver routing, leaky/dead proxy vars, suitecrm once-flag, xwiki variant nocheck, nextcloud oversized-block to gated include, matrix-mdad capped at 3g. make autoformat clean, make test green.

Drop the RuntimeBudget guard and its INFINITO_MAX_RUNTIME /
INFINITO_VARIANT_TIME_OVERFLOW env handlers: the deploy round loop now runs
every variant unconditionally instead of skipping (cut) or aborting (fail)
when the projected runtime would exceed the budget. Removes runtime_budget.py,
both env handlers + their registration, the budget calls in deploy.py, the
obsolete unit tests + the TestHandlerBudget class, and the docs reference.

Thread a single `variant` selector (CSV) end-to-end so CI can split a
role's matrix deploy across runners.
- variant_select.py (SPOT, shared by init + deploy): one --variant taking
a CSV (2 pins one round, 0,1,2 is a runner bundle, empty = full matrix);
replaces the old separate --variant/--variants.
- planner.filter_plan_to_variants filters the plan to a round subset.
- CI discovery (utils/github/variant_bundles.py) splits roles with more
than INFINITO_VARIANT_BUNDLE_SIZE (default 3) variants into bundles of
consecutive indices, one matrix runner each (5 -> 0,1,2 + 3,4), threaded
via the variant env. test-deploy-{local,universal,workstation,server}.yml
switch to matrix.include with a comma-free variant_slug for artifact/job
names (GitHub expressions have no replace()).
- runtime_budget honours INFINITO_VARIANT_TIME_OVERFLOW (cut|fail) when a
runner cannot finish its slice within INFINITO_MAX_RUNTIME.
Unit tests + docs (variants.md, deploy.md) included.

Document the unified addon syntax (req-026) and drop the non-existent '# nocheck: playwright-addon-spec' escape hatch so the docs match the no-exemption lint. Exclude desktop desk-* roles from the per-addon Playwright spec requirement — they drive no web surface a spec could exercise — and harden the lint to FORBID spec files under desk-* roles; remove the 8 desk-chromium/desk-firefox/desk-gnome addon specs accordingly. Web-facing roles still require a spec per addon with no exemption.

Adds a `swarm:` subcategory under `svc:` in roles/categories.yml so the
shared-cluster role is properly invokable, and renames the existing
`svc-swarm` role + inventory group to `svc-swarm-node` (with
`get_entity_name`-aligned primary key `node:` in meta/services.yml).
`svc-swarm-manager` stays as the manager-marker role, becoming invokable
via the same new category and re-keyed to `manager:`.
Consumers of the cluster-orchestration service (svc-registry-cache,
svc-registry-docker, svc-swarm-manager) now reference the service-key
`node:` (was `swarm:`), matching the renamed primary entry. The planner
empirically resolves `service_registry['node']` -> `svc-swarm-node` and
emits it into --include for stack-host deploys, so the CI failure on
`universal-svc-registry-docker` (`svc-swarm: not present in inventory`)
no longer reaches `ValidDeployId`.
Breaking change for operators: inventory groups named `svc-swarm:` must
be renamed to `svc-swarm-node:`. `DEPLOYMENT_MODE` reads
`groups['svc-swarm-node']`, so a stale `svc-swarm:` group silently falls
back to compose mode.

svc-cache-registry -> svc-registry-cache
svc-docker-registry -> svc-registry-docker
svc-docker-swarm -> svc-swarm
svc-docker-swarm-manager -> svc-swarm-manager
categories.yml: drop svc.docker, add svc.registry. Deliberately no svc.swarm
category so get_entity_name('svc-swarm') stays 'swarm' instead of collapsing
to '' (which would break discover_role_services).
Entity keys updated to match the new svc.registry prefix:
services.cache-registry.* -> services.cache.*
services.registry.* -> services.docker.*
01_constructor: replace svc-docker bootstrap-loop entry with explicit
include_role of svc-swarm + bootstrap loop over [svc-registry, svc-storage].

Replace the host-scoped set_fact resolvers in sys-svc-compose/tasks/01_core.yml
and tasks/stages/01_constructor.yml with a single group_vars definition driven
by group_names. Uppercase the variable to match the SPOT convention and drop
every `| default('compose')` fallback now that the resolution is unconditional.
Role-var opt-out on a swarm host still works via Ansible's role-vars > group_vars
precedence.

Adds the svc-docker-swarm, svc-docker-swarm-manager, svc-storage-nfs-server
and svc-storage-nfs-client roles, the compose_volumes filter NFS support,
the test-deploy-swarm-nfs CI workflow with its swarm-nfs-pilot script set,
and the deploy_mode-aware compose/swarm wiring across mediawiki, mariadb
and sys-svc-* helpers.

Root cause of step-08 deploy failures across all 4 test-development
distros in run 26572559126: `make compose-deploy mode=reinstall
apps=web-app-dashboard INFINITO_SERVICES_DISABLED=matomo` (step 07)
made make export the cmdline var into the recipe's shell env, which
reached `runner.py` → `make setup` → `make dotenv`. The dotenv
generator's `setdefault` then baked the runtime-only value into the
on-disk `.env`. Step 08 sourced that .env, filtered `web-app-matomo`
out of its primary apps, and exited with "All primary apps disabled".
Fix:
- Drop the 7 routing knobs (apps, mode, purge, bundles, disable,
full_cycle, variant) from `passthrough.STATIC_KEYS` and from
`default.env`. They are per-invocation; .env is the persistent SPOT
and must not capture them.
- Switch every consumer from `os.environ["KEY"]` strict access to
`os.environ.get("KEY", "")` so the missing-key path stops at "no
filter" instead of a KeyError.
- Rename the env-var surface to match the make-alias surface 1:1
(lowercase): INFINITO_APPS → apps, INFINITO_SERVICES_DISABLED →
disable, INFINITO_BUNDLES → bundles, INFINITO_FULL_CYCLE →
full_cycle, INFINITO_VARIANT → variant, INFINITO_DEPLOY_MODE → mode,
INFINITO_PURGE_ENTITIES → purge. The make alias was the user-facing
name in every doc; routing-knob env vars now use the same name so
the cmdline form, the recipe env-prefix, and the consumer reads
all line up.
- Collapse the Makefile `compose-deploy` recipe to just the two
knobs whose alias differs from the env name (`type` →
INFINITO_DEPLOY_TYPE, `debug` → INFINITO_DEBUG). GNU Make
auto-exports cmdline variables into the recipe's shell env, so the
identical-name `$(if $(apps),apps="$(apps)")` lines were pure
noise.
- Drop `disable: ${disable}` from compose.yml. The dev CLI builds
`extra_env` per `docker exec` call and forwards `disable` via
`-e`, so the container env never needs the value frozen at
compose-up time.
- Update the 3 actual leak call sites
(07/08/09_deploy_*.sh) to the make-alias form
(`disable=matomo`, `full_cycle=true`, `variant=1`).
- Add `SIM112` to ruff's ignore set: the lowercase env names are
the deliberate make/env parity, not a typo.
Repro before fix: `INFINITO_SERVICES_DISABLED=matomo make dotenv`
wrote `INFINITO_SERVICES_DISABLED=matomo` to `.env`. After fix:
`disable=matomo make dotenv` leaves `.env` untouched.
Tests: `make test` and `make autoformat` green (2711 tests, 8 lint
sub-targets).

Three docs still referenced the pre-collapse service keys:
* docs/contributing/artefact/files/role/playwright.specs.js.md — biber
and administrator auth-chain diagrams listed
`skipUnlessServiceEnabled('oidc' | 'oauth2' | 'ldap')`; the unified gate
is `'sso' | 'ldap'`.
* docs/contributing/design/role/services/base.md — the `lookup('service',
...)` example block carried the now-invalid `'oidc'` key; replaced
with `'sso'`.
* docs/requirements/019-playwright-meta-services-parity.md — the
prometheus, matomo, and mailu rows still spelled
`safeSkipUnlessEnabled("oauth2"|"oidc")` and
`isServiceEnabled("oauth2")`; all rewritten to `"sso"`.
`_build_application_defaults` returned variant 0 of every role with a
meta/variants.yml, which then deep-merged with the variant-N override
that build_dev_inventory bakes into the inventory. Any service flag
that variant N did not explicitly disable carried through from
variant 0 into the runtime applications map. The most visible casualty
was svc-bkp-container-2-local variant 1 (postgres + mariadb only),
where gitea + keycloak leaked in via variant 0, sys-service-loader
pulled in svc-db-openldap via keycloak.services.ldap, and the deploy
crashed in sys-svc-compose/04_files.yml on openldap's env.j2 with
"credentials is defined in schema at roles/svc-db-openldap/meta/schema.yml
but not set in application 'svc-db-openldap'".
Defaults now come from each role's variant-free base config
(meta/<topic>.yml plus schema-defaults, no variants overlay). Variants
stay accessible via get_variants for any caller that explicitly needs
a specific variant. Inventory-level applications.<app> overrides win
exactly as before.
Supporting changes that keep the variant matrix consistent under the
new defaults model:
- New lint guard tests/integration/roles/meta/variants/
test_non_baseline_explicit_disables.py: for every dynamic
service-key declared in a role's meta/services.yml that variant 0
pins to literal true, every non-baseline variant MUST explicitly
pin the same key to either literal true or to literal
enabled: false + shared: false. Statically-enabled keys are exempt
(same rule as test_auth_isolation.py).
- roles/web-app-{fusiondirectory,lam,nextcloud,phpldapadmin}/meta/
variants.yml: explicit `false` pins for dashboard / email / logout /
matomo / prometheus / talk in restrictive variants so deep-merge no
longer hands them the deleted variant-0 inheritance.
- roles/web-app-moodle/templates/playwright.env.j2: gate the LAM
block on `lookup('config', application_id, 'services.lam.enabled',
false)`. LAM is a transitive helper, not a moodle-owned service, so
the default-bearing lookup tolerates the missing path when the
variant does not deploy LAM.
- tests/unit/utils/cache/test_variants.py: rename the legacy
"always variant zero" coverage to TestMergedApplicationsUsesBaseConfig
and add test_get_application_defaults_omits_variant_zero_only_keys
as the regression guard for the leak this commit fixes.
- docs/contributing/artefact/files/role/variants.md +
docs/contributing/design/variants.md: variant 0 now manually
enumerates every dynamic services.yml key with
enabled: true + shared: true; `{}` is only permitted when the role
has no dynamic-enabled service-key.

design/variants.md gains a "Credentials Generation" section that
explains both flows the credential machinery can take:
- CI/CD path: planner picks the round's variants -> build_dev_inventory
emits --app-variants -> provision CLI forwards --variant -> credentials
CLI hands the index to InventoryManager, which resolves the root
role's variants.yml overlay so resolve_schema_includes_recursive
sees the variant-merged services map and discovers every shared
provider that the variant enables.
- Standalone path: any caller that omits --app-variants / --variant
gets variant=None, InventoryManager skips the overlay, and shared-
provider discovery walks the base meta config only.
Also adds four reference-table rows for the involved files and fixes
two unrelated wording issues in the surrounding text:
- "every dep round R needs MUST be redeployed" -> grammatical fix.
- "historical payload" / "rename the file back" -> drop historical
framing per documentation.md's current-state-only rule.
artefact/files/role/variants.md gains a short "Credentials
Interaction" section that anchors back to the design doc so a role
author setting services.<key>.enabled+shared in a variant knows that
the credential generator will pick the provider up.

Renames the shared-services loader role from sys-utils-service-loader to
sys-service-loader (shorter, no orphaned "utils" prefix; entity name in
meta/services.yml realigns to service-loader per get_entity_name).
Introduces an explicit two-phase contract in the loader: after the
ordered preload pass, flush a `_service_loader_post_run` queue that
service roles register into during preload via the new helper
`list_or_shoot.yml` (list during preload, shoot directly outside it).
Replaces the `when: not _service_loader_preloading` guards in
sys-svc-compose and sys-svc-webserver-core with helper calls. Closes
the gap where non-web deploys would never load these post-load
dependencies; in normal web deploys behavior stays the same thanks to
each sub-role's `run_once_<role>` gate.
Docs, comments, test docstring, and constructor-stage invocation
follow the rename. Historical changelogs (CHANGELOG.md, packaging/*)
intentionally left at the original name.

Move the deploy router into the compose- domain prefix to match the
rest of the local stack lifecycle (compose-up/down/exec/...). Reorder
its block alphabetically between compose-down and compose-entity-purge
to keep `make help` and the alphabetical-targets lint happy.
Update every active call site: contributor docs, agent-iteration docs,
role-level Administration/README/TODO files, the bundles README, the
test-environment scripts, the in-repo deploy helpers and main.sh, and
the server stage task. The two wildcard prose references (`make
deploy-*` in CLAUDE.md and testing/playwright.md) become single
`make compose-deploy` mentions since no other deploy-* target exists.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Replace the seven separate deploy-* make targets with a single `make
deploy` recipe that maps short Make variables to the canonical
INFINITO_* environment variables and dispatches via the new
scripts/tests/deploy/local/deploy/main.sh router. main.sh and all
sub-scripts continue to read the long-form names, so Ansible passthrough
and container forwarding stay unchanged.
Short Make CLI now exposes apps, mode, purge, type, bundles, disabled,
and full_cycle as aliases. The router picks the verb folder
(initialize, reinstall, update) and scope (all, selection) based on the
chosen mode plus the presence of INFINITO_APPS or INFINITO_BUNDLES.
Also folds in the global INFINITO_TEST_DEPLOY_TYPE -> INFINITO_DEPLOY_TYPE
rename across default.env, passthrough handler, dotenv test, CI deploy
workflows, discovery scripts, and the server stage task.
Active contributor and agent-iteration docs, role-level Administration
and README files, the bundles README, and the deploy reset helper are
all retargeted to the new short CLI. docs/requirements/ entries stay
untouched as historical audit logs.

Root cause of the DinD DNS-check failure on test-deploy-server
(networks.internet.ip4 falling through to 127.0.0.1 despite
INFINITO_IP4=172.30.0.10 reaching every link of the env pipeline):
cli/administration/inventory/provision/cli.py declared --ip4 with a
hardcoded default of "127.0.0.1" and ensure_host_vars_file wrote that
value unconditionally into host_vars/<host>.yml. group_vars'
defaults_networks.internet.ip4 resolves "172.30.0.10" via
\`lookup('env', 'INFINITO_IP4')\`, but tasks/stages/01_constructor.yml
merges \`defaults_networks | combine(networks | default({}, true))\` so
host_vars wins. INFINITO_IP4 looked broken end-to-end; the breakage
actually lived in the provision-CLI host_vars overlay.
INFINITO_DNS_IP and INFINITO_DOMAIN propagated correctly because
the provision CLI had no --dns and the --primary-domain write was
None-gated and never invoked.
While here, --ssl-disabled and --primary-domain are removed too:
neither had any effect in the dev flow. provision/cli.py applies
\`--vars-file inventories/development/default.yml\` AFTER
ensure_host_vars_file via apply_vars_overrides_from_file, whose
_deep_update_commented_map unconditionally overwrites
(\`target[key] = value\`). The dev vars-file always set
\`TLS_ENABLED: true\`, so \`--ssl-disabled\` (which forced
\`TLS_ENABLED: false\` in host_vars) was systematically reverted to
true. Dev/CI ran with TLS enabled the whole time. Inventory stays at
\`TLS_ENABLED: true\` to preserve that effective behaviour.
Removed from cli/administration/inventory/provision/cli.py:
- --ip4, --ip6: defaulted to 127.0.0.1 / ::1, shadowed group_vars
- --primary-domain: never set by any caller, None-gated write
- --ssl-disabled: always re-overwritten by --vars-file later in the
same provision pass
Removed from cli/administration/inventory/provision/host_vars.py the
matching writes in ensure_host_vars_file; the function now only sets
\`ansible_connection: local\` for localhost-class hosts. Defaults for
DOMAIN_PRIMARY / TLS_ENABLED / networks.internet.{ip4,ip6} live in
group_vars (env-driven) and the inventory vars-file (deployment-wide
flags); host_vars stops duplicating them.
Callers cleaned up:
- cli/administration/deploy/development/inventory/builder.py
- cli/administration/deploy/container/command.py
- scripts/tests/deploy/local/utils/fresh-kept-all-init-and-deploy.sh
- scripts/tests/deploy/local/reset/inventory.sh
Tests + docs follow:
- tests/unit/cli/administration/inventory/provision/test_host_vars.py
now asserts host_vars no longer carries baked DOMAIN_PRIMARY /
TLS_ENABLED / networks defaults
- docs/administration/deploy.md drops --ssl-disabled from the
provision example
- docs/contributing/design/inventory.md re-scopes the host_vars
column: the DOMAIN_PRIMARY / TLS_ENABLED / networks.internet.{ip4,ip6}
values arrive via --vars / --vars-file overlays, otherwise group_vars
provides the env-driven default

Relocates `cli/meta/{ports,networks/suggest}` to
`cli/contributing/network/{ports,address/suggest}` so port and subnet
allocators live alongside the rest of the contributor-side tooling
(mirror, update, changelog) instead of `meta`. Mirrors the tests
into `tests/unit/cli/contributing/network/` and renames the contract
docs to `docs/contributing/tools/network/{port,address}.md`. Prog
names update from `cli meta ports suggest` / `cli meta networks
suggest` to `cli contributing network ports suggest` / `cli
contributing network address suggest`; the corresponding lint
references and `utils.meta.scan` docstring follow.
Adds a third subcommand: `cli contributing network diagnose`
(stdlib-only DNS / TCP / TLS / PMTU probe against the standard
infrastructure hosts plus interface MTU, `/etc/resolv.conf`,
`/etc/hosts`, proxy env, CA-bundle summaries). Split across `cli.py`
(orchestration), `config.py` (SPOT for hosts / per-distro install
commands), `format.py` (output + subprocess helpers), `tools.py`
(distro-aware auto-install of `iputils-ping` + `iproute2`),
`report.py` (system-info dumps + IPv6-default-route detection), and
`probes.py` (per-host probes). Exposed as `make debug-network`.
Companion `docs/contributing/actions/debugging/network.md` absorbs
the diagnose-tool walkthrough (incl. how to read MTU-induced TLS
handshake timeouts) so the merged page covers DNS / MTU / IPv6 /
connectivity end-to-end.

Replace 8 bash env modules with a single Python generator
(cli.meta.env) that materialises env/static.env + runtime context
into a gitignored .env. Each variable lives in its own handler
under utils/env/handlers/; defaults carry inline one-line `# ...`
comments.
Rename to the INFINITO_* schema:
- workflow inputs: APPS, SERVICES_DISABLED, CMD, DEBUG, WHITELIST,
BUNDLES, FULL_CYCLE, VARIANT, RUN_FLAGS, LIMIT_HOST, PARALLEL
- inventory: INVENTORY_DIR / INVENTORY_FILE / HOST_VARS_FILE,
PW_FILE -> INVENTORY_PASSWORD_FILE
- venv: VENV_BASE / VENV_FALLBACK / VENV_NAME
- new SPOT defaults: COMPILE_SILENCE, CONTAINER_NO_CA,
WAIT_HEALTH_TIMEOUT_S, PACKAGE_CACHE_FRONTEND_INIT_IMAGE,
promoted IMAGE_TAG from GHA-only to general passthrough
compose.yml hardening:
- inline \${VAR:-default} removed; strict \${VAR:?...} everywhere
- new integration lint blocks regressions
Tooling:
- scripts/install/all.sh owns the stamp-file install logic
(Makefile target delegates)
- scripts/meta/env/load.sh is the single shell entry point;
8 bash modules deleted
- new shell lint: no INFINITO_* defaults outside env/static.env
Tests:
- 93 new unit tests for utils/env/{builder,parser,runtime,writer}
- restructure tests/lint into repository/ (file-content rules) vs
filesystem/{shell,python,env}/ (filesystem-shape rules)
- drift + smoke integration tests against the generator
Docs:
- variables.md is now a pointer; per-variable docs live next to
the key in env/static.env / env/ci.env
- compose.yml.md drops the Default column

The internal container port slot under <entity>.ports is now a
category-keyed map (matching the local/public shape) instead of a
single int. "internal" replaces "inter" because the latter is
ambiguous in English (could read as "between").
Affected:
- 8 role meta/services.yml (matrix, ollama, mig, shopware, oauth2-proxy,
gitea, listmonk, sphinx) and every caller (vars, templates, group_vars).
- web-app-matrix: 8008 hardcoded across compose.yml.j2, homeserver.yaml.j2,
tasks/01_docker.yml, and 7 mautrix bridges now reads
MATRIX_SYNAPSE_CONTAINER_PORT from services.synapse.ports.internal.http.
- web-app-matrix: admin username/password lookups consolidated as
MATRIX_ADMINISTRATOR_{USERNAME,PASSWORD} in vars/main.yml, sourced from
lookup('users', 'administrator').
- Tooling: cli/meta/ports/suggest, utils/meta/scan, integration scan,
migrate_meta_layout/role_builder updated to the new key name.
- Docs: design/role/services/layout.md, tools/ports-suggest.md,
requirements 009/021, image/origin.md, PR template.

Three classes of drift cleaned up across 85 .md files:
- Em-dashes: replaced ` — ` with the contextually correct separator
(colon for `term: explanation`, period to split clauses across
sentences/source lines, parentheses for asides, semicolon for
tight-linked continuations). Two intentional exceptions remain
in `docs/contributing/documentation.md` (the rule literal) and
inside a fenced ```sh block in `docs/contributing/actions/debugging/ci.md`.
- SPOT self-labels: rewrote "This is the SPOT for X" to describe
the subject directly ("This directory holds X" / "This file
describes X"). Cross-references to other artefacts' canonical
role remain unchanged.
- Heading-emoji position: moved leading-emoji headings (`# 🧩 Title`)
to trailing position (`# Title 🧩`) per the headline rule that
emojis MUST come after the title text.

Two follow-ups after c7bacbab5 removed `inventory/variants.py`:
* docs/contributing/design/variants.md and docs/requirements/020-*.md
still referenced the deleted submodule, breaking
`test_markdown_relative_links_resolve`. The design doc drops the
removed entries from the reference table; the postmortem turns the
historical mention into plaintext with a pointer to the removal
commit and the current package layout.
* tests/lint/repository/test_markdown_links.py and
test_project_root_import.py walked the worktree via
`iter_project_files`, which does NOT honour `.gitignore`. In the
`make exec` container path the markdown lint's primary
`git ls-files` codepath fails and falls back to that walker, surfacing
19 broken links inside vendored skill READMEs under `.agents/` and
`.claude/skills/` plus 2 `parents[N]` violations in installed skill
scripts. Both lints now use `iter_non_ignored_files` so gitignored
trees (skills install output, build artefacts) are skipped in every
environment.

Two changes ship together because the variant-only matrix-deploy logic
was written into the legacy 697-line inventory.py and then re-split:
* Source package (max 240 lines per submodule, well under the 300 budget):
- spec.py DevInventorySpec + PlanEntry data types
- payload.py _resolve_variant_payloads + _bake_overrides
- legacy_resolver.py CombinedResolver fallback (default-mode path)
- variants.py strict variant-only include resolution
- planner.py plan_dev_inventory_matrix + filter_plan_to_variant
- builder.py build_dev_inventory + build_dev_inventory_matrix
- __init__.py public-API re-exports + back-compat shims
* Test package mirrors the source 1:1 with a shared _fixtures.make_spec
to avoid duplicating the DevInventorySpec defaults across files.
* New variant-only matrix mode (gated on any primary shipping
meta/variants.yml): only services whose merged variant payload pins
both enabled and shared to literal True become inventory groups;
Jinja flags never qualify (group_names does not exist yet at build
time); run_after only orders the include, never expands it;
cross-primary disagreement on a (service-key, round) raises ValueError.
Default mode (no variants.yml on any primary) keeps the legacy
CombinedResolver path untouched.
* Docs in design/{inventory,variants}.md updated to point at the new
per-submodule paths; test_nginx_vhosts.py's Test classes now also
inherit directly from unittest.TestCase so the AST-level lint in
test_all_test_files_have_tests.py picks them up (transitive base via
NginxVhostsTestBase alone is not enough).
Coverage: 458 cli unit tests, 349 utils unit tests, 99 dev-deploy tests,
all green; ruff check clean.

Removes 67 live references to docs/requirements/<NNN>-*.md files across
43 contributor docs, role READMEs, code comments, task files, and tests.
Requirement docs are initial-creation-only artefacts; live references
freeze a snapshot that rots once the per-feature SPOT (a contributor
doc, a code module, a lint test) takes over the live behaviour.
In the same pass, fixes documentation.md violations on the touched
files: drops em-dashes used as thought breaks, removes "SPOT for ..."
self-labels, strips historical phrasing ("the legacy", "previously",
"used to", "is no longer used", "matching the historical"), and
reflows soft-wrapped sentences so each sentence stays on one logical
line.
The `test_inventory_vars_file_spot.py` whitelist for the literal
inventory path drops the docs/requirements/003 entry and instead
skips docs/requirements/ entirely; future requirement docs that
mention the literal path are then ignored automatically.
Verified by tests/lint/repository/test_no_stale_requirement_refs.py
(green tree-wide).

Move five role-scoped lint tests out of the catch-all
tests/lint/repository/ tree into the ansible/roles/ tree where
they conceptually belong, dropping the redundant `role_` /
`meta_` filename prefixes:
test_role_file_spot.py → roles/test_file_spot.py
test_role_readme.py → roles/test_readme.py
test_role_meta_info.py → roles/meta/test_info.py
test_role_meta_layout.py → roles/meta/test_layout.py
test_role_meta_main_galaxy_schema → roles/meta/test_main_galaxy_schema.py
Plus regroup two web-app-only Playwright tests under
roles/web-app/playwright/ so the path itself states the scope:
test_playwright_env_keys_used → roles/web-app/playwright/test_env_keys_used.py
test_web_app_roles_have_playwright_spec
→ roles/web-app/playwright/test_has_spec.py
New __init__.py files set PROJECT_ROOT for the new package depths.
External references (suppression catalog entry, design doc,
web-app-joomla README, two integration-test docstrings) updated
to the new paths. Stale path strings in legacy requirement docs
left untouched per the snapshot policy from req 019.

Tooling integration
* add .markdownlint-cli2.jsonc, .ansible-lint, .ansible-lint-ignore
configs (permissive day-1: cosmetic rules disabled, semantic ones on)
* extend scripts/install/lint.sh with generic install_pip_pkg helper +
ensure_ansible_lint / ensure_galaxy_importer / ensure_markdownlint_cli2
ensure_* functions (pip / npm with sudo / --user / --break-system-packages
fallbacks). install_ansible_tools now also pulls ansible-lint and
galaxy-importer; new `markdown` install group.
* extend scripts/lint/ansible.sh to run ansible-lint after the existing
syntax-check.
* add scripts/lint/markdown.sh and scripts/lint/galaxy.sh runners. The
galaxy runner parallelizes via xargs (-P=$(nproc)), prints OK/FAIL per
role, and treats `bare-name dependency` errors as success since our
roles/ tree is not a Galaxy collection layout. All other Galaxy schema
errors still fail.
* Makefile: new lint-markdown and lint-galaxy targets, both wired into
`make lint`.
* CI: new workflows lint-markdown.yml and lint-galaxy.yml; lint-ansible.yml
now installs ansible-core + ansible-lint; ci-orchestrator wires both
new lint workflows into lint-gate.
Galaxy schema fixes
* shorten the canonical `galaxy_info.company` block from three lines to
two ("Kevin Veen-Birkenbach\nhttps://www.veen.world", 45 chars) so it
stays under Galaxy's hard 50-char limit. Updated everywhere: 229 role
meta/main.yml plus _CANONICAL_COMPANY in
tests/lint/repository/test_role_meta_main_galaxy_schema.py.
* shorten 19 over-long role descriptions to <=255 chars.
* add stub READMEs for sys-svc-compose-ca and sys-utils-service-loader.
Markdown baseline fixes
* markdownlint-cli2 --fix run repo-wide (formatting normalization
across CHANGELOG, role READMEs, docs).
* manual MD041 fixes: prepend H1 in 15 files (CHANGELOG, LICENSE,
TODO.md helpers, role README templates, etc.).
* MD025 / MD003 / MD001 / MD032 manual fixes for heading-style and
list-spacing edge cases.
* role README content polish: "## Single Point of Truth (SPOT)" headings
renamed to "## User data resolution" (D3 self-label rule).

Module moves (with imports, paths, argv literals, scripts, docs, and
parents[N] formulas updated in lockstep):
- cli/deploy -> cli/administration/deploy
- cli/validate/inventory -> cli/administration/inventory/validate
- cli/vault -> cli/administration/secrets/vault
- cli/administration/inventory/encrypt -> cli/administration/secrets/seal
- cli/mirror -> cli/contributing/mirror
The new cli/administration/secrets cluster collocates the whole-file
ansible-vault wrapper next to the inventory-aware per-field sealer.
The user-facing CLI subcommand paths follow the package layout, e.g.
"infinito administration deploy dedicated <inv>" and
"infinito administration inventory validate <inv>".
Help system redesign in cli/core/{discovery,help,app}.py:
- Discovery now distinguishes runnable commands (directories with
__main__.py) from category folders (directories that only group
further commands). Empty support packages are filtered out.
- Each category folder MAY carry a README.md; its H1 heading is used
as the title and its first paragraph as the one-line description in
the help output.
- "infinito" / "infinito --help" prints only the top-level entries
(one level deep). "infinito <category>" navigates into a folder and
shows its sub-folders and commands one level deep, with the README
title as the page heading and the invocation as a dim subtitle.
- New "--tree [N]" flag walks the tree under the (optional) path
prefix recursively. N caps the depth (1-based); omit N for an
unbounded walk. The output uses Unicode tree connectors, an emoji
per entry (folder for categories, gear for commands), a globally
aligned description column, and multi-line wrapped descriptions
with tree-continuity bars on continuation lines.
- Category and command listings use the full invocation
("infinito meta callorder") rather than the bare leaf name, so the
output is copy-pasteable.
Convention doc + 17 CLI READMEs:
- New docs/contributing/artefact/files/cli/readme_md.md describes the
H1+paragraph layout the help system reads, and how it differs from
role/docs READMEs.
- README.md added for cli/{administration, build, contributing, meta}
and their immediate sub-folders, plus cli/meta/roles/applications
and its resolution sub-folder. Each follows the "title with trailing
emoji + single descriptive paragraph" convention.
Mirror resolver/sync description strings (the help system reads them
from argparse --help output) added so they no longer surface as
"options:" in the global index. cli/mirror/cleanup already had a
description and is unchanged.
Fixes uncovered by the move:
- import unittest.mock added to four dedicated-deploy tests so
unittest.mock.patch resolves under stdlib unittest discovery
(Python 3.13 no longer surfaces unittest.mock through "import
unittest" alone).
- parents[N] index in the new
cli/administration/inventory/validate/__init__.py corrected from
3 to 4 to match the deeper layout.
- test_paths.INVENTORY_VALIDATOR_PATH assertion and test_runner
substring assertions updated to match the new validator path.

Cleanup logic between rounds is now full-include rather than
variant-changed-only:
- handler() tracks previous_round_include instead of
previous_round_variants. Between rounds the wrapper purges every
app from the previous round's include set, so round R boots from
an empty host.
- Every round deploys its full round_include (round 0 baseline AND
R>0). The "skip variant-unchanged apps" path is gone, because
variants that drop deps left cross-round residue under the
previous selective-purge model.
- _purge_app_entities docstring updated; the matrix-deploy comment
in handler() reflects the new semantics.
test_matrix_deploy.py:
- test_round_one_only_deploys_apps_with_real_variant_one renamed
test_every_round_redeploys_full_include_after_purge.
- test_three_round_plan_only_re_deploys_apps_with_real_variant
renamed test_three_round_plan_redeploys_full_include_each_round.
- two_round + full_cycle purge assertions updated to expect the
full previous-round include.
- New test_round_transition_purges_previous_include_even_when_dep_falls_out
pins the fall-out case (round 0 = nextcloud + coturn, round 1 =
nextcloud only -> purge MUST include coturn).
variants.md updated to match (points 4 + 5 rewritten, reference
table aligned). documentation.md compliance pass: dropped em-dash
clause separator and the historical optimisation reference on
point 4, lifted reference-table entry into the new wording.

Add cli/contributing/changelog/archive: a CLI that trims CHANGELOG.md
to the last N entries (default 7) and writes every older release to
its own file under docs/changelog/ named <padded-semver>-<date>.md
(7.0.0 → 007.000.000-2026-05-08.md). The padded form makes a directory
listing already chronological, and the index in CHANGELOG.md is
rebuilt from the archive directory listing on every run, so it never
drifts away from what is on disk. The tool is idempotent and never
overwrites an existing archive file.
Run the migration once to split the 44-entry CHANGELOG.md into 7
inline entries plus 37 archived per-release files, with the index at
the bottom of CHANGELOG.md linking each archive in descending order.
Add docs/contributing/actions/release.md as the contributor-facing
release procedure (versioning, active window vs. archive, cutting a
release end-to-end, CI hand-off on tag push) and add a docs README
under docs/changelog/ that explains the archive directory layout and
filename schema. Cross-link release.md from pipeline.md and add
"releases" to the actions/ scope description.
Documentation cleanup pass on every page touched in the previous
mapping refactor:
- Remove "is the SPOT for X" / "Single Point of Truth" self-labels
across docs/contributing/, docs/agents/, and docs/changelog/. The
rule in documentation.md forbids self-declared SPOT status; status
is conferred by readers cross-linking, not by the page asserting
it. Rephrase to descriptive phrasing ("This page covers X",
"describes X", "lists X") throughout.
- Drop the orphaned docs/contributing/tools/actions.md duplicate
(101 lines paralleling tools/github/actions/workflows.md, with no
inbound links).
- Fix em-dashes used as thought breaks in dockerfile.md, origin.md,
agents/style.css.md, and suppression.md per documentation.md.
- Unwrap soft-wrapped sentences in iam/common.md, iam/ldap.md,
iam/oidc.md, image/origin.md, requirements.md, and dockerfile.md
so each logical line carries one full sentence.
Add a unit test for the archive CLI under
tests/unit/cli/contributing/changelog/archive/test_main.py covering
_pad_version, _split_into_entries, idempotency, dry-run, no-overwrite
of existing archives, and the multi-run index rebuild.
Quote `# noqa:` in CHANGELOG.md prose with backticks so the
noqa-only-ruff-codes lint does not parse "for" as a non-ruff code.

Move utils/roles/applications/files.py to utils/roles/mapping.py and add a
data-driven role-type detector in utils/roles/type.py. Each entry in
ROLE_FILES carries per-role-type allowed/mandatory flags plus marker entries
that drive get_role_types(); a role MAY belong to several types (e.g. an
application that also ships a system service).
Add cli/meta/roles/mapping with files / types / markers subcommands so
contributors can query the schema in text or JSON. Move
cli/meta/applications/ to cli/meta/roles/applications/ and adjust PROJECT_ROOT
parents indices accordingly. Move docs/contributing/design/services/ to
docs/contributing/design/role/services/ and document the mapping in
docs/contributing/design/role/mapping.md per documentation.md.
Replace the narrow test_app_only_files with a generalist
tests/integration/roles/meta/test_mapping.py that walks every role and every
ROLE_FILES entry and reports forbidden files, missing mandatory files,
forbidden entries, and missing mandatory entries in one structured fail
report. meta/info.yml and meta/users.yml are now allowed across every role
type. Create the seven mandatory files surfaced by the generalist test
(README.md for desk-keepassxc, desk-obs, web-svc-cdn following readme_md.md,
plus tasks/main.yml stubs for svc-db-memcached, svc-db-redis, sys-svc-proxy,
web-app-socialhome).
Audit and rewrite touched markdown for documentation.md compliance: replace
em-dashes with fluent sentences, drop SPOT self-labels, fix all broken
relative links introduced by the services/ move.

Tighten the utils namespace so each subpackage owns one concern:
- utils/applications/* moves under utils/roles/applications/* (helpers
that operate on the runtime applications dict and meta/services.yml).
- utils/service_registry.py and utils/database_service.py move under
utils/roles/applications/services/ as registry.py and database.py.
- utils/entity_name_utils.py becomes utils/roles/entity_name.py.
- utils/invokable.py, utils/valid_deploy_id.py, and the existing
utils/roles/resource_validation.py group under utils/roles/validation/
as invokable.py, deploy_id.py, and resources.py.
- utils/templating.py and utils/jinja_strict.py split into
utils/templating/ansible.py (Templar + TrustedAsTemplate, lookup-env
shortcut) and utils/templating/jinja.py (vanilla Jinja2 Environment,
multi-pass strict render).
Every caller in utils, cli, plugins, roles/<role>/{filter,lookup}_plugins,
tests, and the docs that link to the moved files is updated to the new
import paths. Test files mirror the new source layout
(tests/unit/utils/{roles,templating}/...).
New READMEs at utils/cleanup/, utils/roles/, utils/roles/applications/services/,
utils/roles/validation/, and utils/templating/ follow the
documentation.md and readme_md.md guidelines.

Add a dedicated lifecycle reference and back it with concrete role
metadata changes:
- `docs/contributing/design/services/lifecycle.md`: enumerate the
values `meta/services.yml.<entity>.lifecycle` MAY take and the
criteria each value commits the role to. Linear axis runs from
`planned` -> `pre-alpha` -> `alpha` -> `beta` -> `rc` -> `stable`
-> `maintenance` -> `deprecated` -> `eol`, with the inner five
forming the tested envelope (matrix-deploy + Playwright gate
applies). `beta` requires single sign-on against
web-app-keycloak / svc-db-openldap whenever the upstream software
ships an OIDC or LDAP adapter; `rc` additionally requires a live
burn-in deploy on infinito.nexus.
- Introduce a parallel `unsupported` tier off the linear axis for
roles the project ships without test or maintenance commitment
(proprietary products, demo prototypes). The role's `README.md`
MUST state the unsupported status explicitly.
- `docs/contributing/design/services/layout.md`: cross-link the new
lifecycle.md as the semantic counterpart to the on-disk shape
documented under `run_after` and `lifecycle`.
- Move web-app-confluence, web-app-jira, web-app-magento from
`alpha`/`planned` to `lifecycle: unsupported`. They are commercial
proprietary products / catalogue demonstrations the project does
not commit to maintain. Their meta entries flip to `unsupported`
to match.
- `tests/lint/repository/test_role_meta_layout.py`: extend
`ALLOWED_LIFECYCLES` to cover the full set introduced in
lifecycle.md (`rc`, `maintenance`, `eol`, `unsupported`) so the
lint guard accepts the documented values without false positives.

Both `roles/web-app-mig/vars/main.yml` and
`roles/web-app-sphinx/vars/main.yml` resolved `container_port` via
`lookup('config', application_id, 'services.' ~ entity_name ~ '.port')`,
but neither role's `meta/services.yml` declares a flat `port` key —
they declare `services.<entity>.ports.{inter, local.http}`. Deploy on
arch crashed at compose-template render time with
`The lookup plugin 'config' failed: Key 'port' not found in dict`
(GHA universal-deploy run 25028370090 jobs 73306260785 + 73306260788).
Match the convention used by web-app-listmonk / -gitea / -shopware
and read `services.<entity>.ports.inter` instead.
The existing `tests/integration/lookups/test_config_paths.py`
literal-path scanner only captures the first quoted segment of a
`lookup('config', ...)` call, so `~`-concatenated paths (where a
Jinja variable expands inside the dotted path) were validated only
as wildcard prefixes. That contract is too loose: any role with a
top-level `services` dict satisfied
`'services.' ~ entity_name ~ '.port'`, even when the resolved path
did not exist for the specific role.
Add a `test_wildcard_paths` method that:
- captures the entire path expression in any
`lookup('config', <app>, <expr>)` whose `<expr>` contains `~`,
- parses the expression token by token, treating quoted strings as
literals and any bareword between `~` markers as `*`,
- joins the parts and splits on `.` into a wildcard path
(for example `'credentials.' ~ X ~ '_jwt_secret'` becomes
`credentials.*_jwt_secret`),
- resolves the role from the file's `roles/<role>/...` path when
the lookup's app argument is a Jinja variable,
- validates the wildcard path through the same fallback chain as
the literal-path test (application defaults -> users defaults
-> credentials in defaults / schema -> images presence), with
per-segment fnmatch globbing so partial-segment wildcards like
`*_jwt_secret` resolve correctly.
Verified: reverting the two role fixes makes the new test report
`'services.*.port' has no match in application defaults / schema for
role 'web-app-mig'` (and the same for sphinx) with file/line refs.
Restoring the fixes turns it green again.
Also drop one extra `..` segment from three relative links in
`docs/contributing/design/inventory.md` so the markdown lint check
passes.

Two design docs under docs/contributing/design/:
- variants.md (renamed from matrix-deploy.md): explains the
folder-per-round wrapper that consumes per-role meta/variants.yml
and iterates variants at deploy time. Headings normalised to
sentence-case; the "legacy unsuffixed inventory path" wording
rewritten to drop the historical-context phrasing forbidden by
documentation.md.
- inventory.md (new): explains how a single round's inventory is
assembled out of meta/services.yml plus the variant payloads,
which inclusion mechanisms exist (operator --apps, run_after walk,
shared-service auto-include via strict `is True`), what lives in
the inventory file vs. host_vars/<host>.yml, and when Jinja
actually gets rendered (only at play runtime, via
utils.cache.applications._render_with_templar). Worked example
documents the WordPress + Discourse wiring as a reference case.
Cross-links updated wherever they pointed at matrix-deploy.md or
its concept name as a file:
- docs/agents/action/iteration/role.md
- docs/contributing/actions/deploy.md
- docs/contributing/artefact/files/plugins/lookup/applications.md
- docs/contributing/artefact/files/role/variants.md
- scripts/tests/deploy/local/deploy/reuse-kept-app.sh (path comment)
Plain-text occurrences of "matrix-deploy" as a concept term inside
Python comments, log messages, and test docstrings stay as-is; only
file-link references are migrated.
