compose/cache.shared.override.yml attaches every worktree stack's
infinito service to the primary's network (infinito-nexus-core_default,
172.30.0.0/24) without an ipv4_address. The default network declared
no ip_range, so Docker IPAM handed out the lowest free address and the
worktree stacks took 172.30.0.2, .3, .8, .9 and, whenever the primary
container was down, .10, the primary's INFINITO_IP4. The primary's
`make compose-up` then failed with "Address already in use", and with
it `make quality-high` on main.
The default network now declares ip_range: ${INFINITO_IP_RANGE}, the
upper half of INFINITO_SUBNET. Every static address of the stack (.1,
.4 to .6, .10, .53) sits in the lower half, so a container without a
static address can no longer take one.
INFINITO_IP_RANGE is derived from the final INFINITO_SUBNET after
custom.env is applied, because a worktree pins its subnet there and
`make dotenv-force` regenerates without it in the environment. Existing
worktrees therefore get their own slot's range without a new pin.
A lint checks that every static IP in default.env and every
172.30.${slot}.N pin in scripts/system/worktree/up.sh lies below the
pool.

The repository is bind-mounted into the infinito container, and every deploy
runs `make setup` there, which depends on `dotenv`. The generator therefore
rewrote the host's .env with the values the container sees: the host lost
INFINITO_RUNNING_ON_GITHUB=true that way, and the guide replay pulled
alpine:latest past the GHCR mirror.
compose.yml now marks the infinito service with INFINITO_DOTENV_HOST_OWNED,
and `python -m cli.meta.env` keeps an existing .env while that marker is
"true". A missing .env is still generated, and `make dotenv-force` (env -i)
still rewrites it. The key stays out of the env registry: only compose.yml
sets it, it is no configuration value, and a .env entry could freeze the
host .env.
test_distros now also strips INFINITO_ENV_LOADED. load.sh returns early
while that guard is set and the mtime of .env is unchanged, so the test only
reloaded the budget keys it strips because the container kept rewriting .env.
Verified: unit tests cover a kept .env, a missing one being generated, and a
rewrite without the marker. Local compose deploys print "Kept .env: the host
checkout owns it" where they printed "Wrote .env" before, the host .env
checksum stayed the same across a deploy, and the four keys holding host
paths resolve inside the container under the same paths.

Buildx 0.38.0 gates host networking in bake behind an entitlement that
Compose never grants, so `make compose-up` failed wherever Compose had to
build the image itself. The build block asked for it without need:
scripts/image/build.sh builds the same Dockerfile on the bridge network.
Closes#875

The gateway could reach exactly one remote provider, through a bare
OPENROUTER_API_KEY group_var with an empty-string default and an `{% if %}`
around a single hardcoded model entry. OpenAI and Anthropic had no path at all.
All three are now declared in roles/svc-ai-litellm/meta/secrets.yml, which
mapping.py already calls the application config schema, so a key lands at
applications.svc-ai-litellm.secrets.credentials.<provider>_api_key like every
other credential. Each carries the `type` and `regex` its value must satisfy and
defaults to the central API.<provider>.api_key block, which keeps one
operator-facing place to fill a provider in while the role owns the shape.
type and regex had to become real to be worth declaring. 192 `validation:`
blocks sit in the role schemas today and not one line of Python enforces them,
so a `regex` would have joined a pile of decoration. validate_supplied_value
now runs on every path a value arrives from outside — the --set override, a
value already in the inventory, and the value standing next to a `default:`.
A generated value stays exempt because the algorithm that produced it is named
by the same schema and generate_value takes no schema argument. min_length is
deliberately left unenforced: the generators ignore it, so holding them to it
would fail where nothing is wrong.
The pattern is written for the paste, not for the vendor. OpenAI moved issuance
from sk- to sk-proj- without notice and Anthropic issues sk-ant-api03-; a schema
pinning a prefix would reject a valid key and abort inventory creation. `\S{20,}`
accepts every form those three issue today and one nobody has announced, and
rejects a trailing newline, an embedded space, a truncated copy and a
<placeholder>. A key pasted into the wrong provider's slot is caught at deploy
instead, where the route it publishes answers nothing.
The gateway iterates one LITELLM_REMOTE_BACKENDS list instead of three `{% if %}`
blocks; config.yaml.j2 and env.j2 read the same list and selectattr('key')
decides. LITELLM_CHAT_MODEL falls back to the first configured remote alias
rather than to a hardcoded openrouter/auto.
For CI the keys travel as INFINITO_API_{OPENAI,ANTHROPIC,OPENROUTER}_KEY through
default.env, the passthrough allowlist, the infinito service in compose.yml, the
workflow env block and the development inventory. The compose leg is not
optional: the env lint rejected the change without it, because a key the
inventory reads but compose does not forward resolves to empty inside the
container with no error. The workflow reads `secrets.X || vars.X` so a variable
works as asked while a secret wins, which matters because a variable is not
masked and the development inventory sets MASK_CREDENTIALS_IN_LOGS: false.
An unset key is not an error anywhere: the provider's routes stay unpublished
and the CLI test asserts their absence rather than skipping.

834 commits from the Tor onion-service branch against 299 of ours, from merge
base 7b646bdece: 127 conflicted files, 3506 files changed.
The two sides are largely orthogonal. Theirs adds svc-net-tor and a `tor` service
across the role tree, plus two sweeping refactors: shipped scripts sorted by
language (files/ruby/, files/python/, files/shell/, scripts/lint/*.sh) and the
unit suite moved under tests/unit/python/. Ours is requirement 036, the native AI
gateway, plus the MCP role work. Most conflicts were both sides appending to the
same service map, resolved as unions.
Resolutions that were not unions:
Credentials moved namespace. Theirs renamed meta/schema.yml to meta/secrets.yml
and re-addressed credentials as secrets.credentials.<name>. Git carried our
litellm_api_key blocks through the rename, but every consumer we added still read
'credentials.<name>', which no longer resolves. All 45 call sites are migrated.
plugins/filter/container_volumes.py is deleted by theirs and relocated to
plugins/lookup/container_volumes.py, where it carries the same tmpfs defect our
f85996b43 had just fixed: a hard-coded {"size": ...} that silently drops a per
mount `mode`. The fix is re-applied in the relocated file, as that commit's merge
note anticipated.
compose.yml keeps only INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_REPORTS_BASE_DIR. Theirs also forwards
INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_STAGE_BASE_DIR; that line is deliberately dropped, per the
analysis recorded in 45804e9ad -- STAGE has a drift-proof role-vars fallback,
while forwarding it promotes a setdefault-pinnable .env value above that SPOT.
tasks/stages/01_constructor.yml takes their include, ./tasks/utils/setup/group.yml,
because their refactor removed tasks/groups/*-roles.yml, leaving our include
target nonexistent. Our task name is kept, since svc-virt is in the loop.
Makefile swarm-zombie is a union: their validate plus teardown, then our
lab_subnet cleanup, which their side dropped while leaving lab_subnet.sh as the
only orphaned reference in the file.
01_bootstrap.sh keeps our deterministic --ip pinning, which distinguishes an
already-attached node from a real failure, over their `|| true`.
Their language-sorted layout orphaned references our side still held: zammad's
two scripts/apply/*.rb, jenkins' java-with-ca-trust.sh, and the notify topics
their handlers renamed to hyphenated form. All corrected.
roles/sys-svc-compose/files/shell/swarm/stack_ready.sh gains our latched-update
block: paused, rollback_paused, rollback_started and rollback_completed exit 2
rather than polling a state that cannot resolve without another deploy.
config_from_run is unioned to (title, logged, jobs); the production caller in
trigger/__main__.py now passes jobs, without which our suite suppression would
have been inert.
READMEs are regenerated rather than hand-merged: 15 LiteLLM rows and 91 Tor rows
now derive from the merged metadata, which is itself evidence the meta merge is
coherent.
Verified: 5161 unit tests pass. The single failure, test_query.py TestSortSpec,
also fails on fork/feature/svc-net-tor at b51d2f9919, measured in a baseline
worktree -- so this merge introduces no new unit-test failure. Two modules are
excluded from that run because `baudolo`, a dependency their branch introduces,
is not installed on this host.
Not verified: no deploy has run against the merged tree, and make quality has not
been run end to end here.

scripts/tests/e2e/rerun-spec.sh opens with
reports_base="${INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_REPORTS_BASE_DIR:?source scripts/meta/env/load.sh or run via make}"
and `make compose-playwright` runs it inside the development container, where
nothing carried that variable across the boundary. The documented target failed
on its first line. The image injects no BASH_ENV or profile entry, so compose's
environment block is the only channel in.
That target re-stages a role's specs from the repo and reruns them against the
live stack without redeploying -- seconds instead of hours -- so a broken entry
point costs far more than its size suggests. It is what proved the zammad AI
spec green today, reached only by supplying the variable by hand.
Only the reports dir is forwarded. INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_STAGE_BASE_DIR is
deliberately NOT, although fork/feature/svc-net-tor carries cca47b471a which adds
both. The two are not symmetric. REPORTS is a Jinja path_join over DIR_VAR_LIB,
which awk cannot parse, so the :? hard-fail is real and forwarding it is
necessary. STAGE is the bare literal /tmp/test-e2e-playwright, and the script's
fallback parses it from the same vars/main.yml the Ansible stager reads, deriving
repo_root from its own path -- so the fallback cannot fail anywhere the script
can run, and Ansible never reads the env var at all.
Forwarding STAGE would therefore add no capability while inserting a
higher-precedence source for a value whose only authority is that literal.
EnvBuilder.setdefault resolves `existing or value` against os.environ, and
Makefile exports BASH_ENV=load.sh which sources .env into every recipe, so a
stale value pins itself against the SPOT; `make dotenv-force` exists precisely to
break that pin. The divergence would surface as rerun-spec.sh's "missing staging
dir (run deploy first)", an error whose instruction cannot fix it.
MERGE NOTE: reconciling with cca47b471a needs a deliberate one-line resolution --
drop their STAGE line -- and no lint guards this in either direction, so it will
silently return otherwise.
Verified: the failure was reproduced, and the same command succeeded once the
variable was supplied, isolating the missing passthrough. At runtime the
container now shows REPORTS set and STAGE absent, with the fallback carrying
STAGE correctly.
Not verified: the repaired target has not been run, because picking up a new
environment entry needs the container recreated and that would destroy the stack
state this session built. Unfixed in either variant: the REPORTS :? still aborts
on DiD nodes reached through node.sh, which forwards no environment at all.

75 commits: the socialhome role reimplemented against the project it actually
deploys, native-login specs for funkwhale and shopware, a window.open IdP
handoff and a settings-link fallback in the shared persona helpers, a swarm
converge budget that gives up on a terminal task, and a long tail of role
fixes.
Eleven conflicts. The shared persona helpers (keycloak.js, logout.js) take the
incoming structure — they gained real behaviour this branch never had — with
this branch's resolveTimeout convention re-applied over it and
confirmKeycloakLogoutIfPrompted re-attached at every return point; without it
the Keycloak SSO session outlives the logout. playwright.config.js keeps this
branch's version: both sides set actionTimeout, but ours routes through an env
var and 15s is too short behind an onion. socialhome's spec takes the incoming
content — 2dbd6eb10 found the role described the wrong upstream project
entirely — and keeps gotoOnion and expectHstsWhenTls, since demanding HSTS over
a plaintext onion is a false failure. Both READMEs were regenerated rather than
merged by hand.
Three collisions arrived with no conflict marker at all, because each side
changed a different place in a different file:
- group_vars/all/18_swarm.yml declared swarm_stack_converge_retries twice.
Same value, so nothing breaks today; editing the documented one would have
silently changed nothing.
- svc-net-tor and web-app-socialhome both claimed 192.168.74.0/24. Socialhome,
the newer role, moves to 192.168.75.0/24.
- web-app-socialhome/meta/schema.yml arrived as a new file, so ef5ea7cb5's
rename never saw it. Its credential would not have resolved and the role
would have deployed with an unusable administrator account.
The incoming specs also needed this branch's conventions: raw timeouts wrapped,
four page.goto calls routed through gotoOnion, a request.get given an
onion-aware timeout, and 21 roles marked playwright-service-flag over the tor
block this branch added to them.
make quality green on the merge result.

Both values are computed by env handlers and land in .env, but the service's environment block is an allowlist, so they never reached the container. rerun-spec.sh aborts without them and ci/dedicated.sh needs the reports path to resolve inside the container it copies from.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Three conflicts, each resolved by combining both sides rather than picking one.
compose.yml passes both env vars through to the container: swarm-nfs adds
INFINITO_SWARM_MGR_IP, this branch adds INFINITO_TOR_SOCKS_PORT, and neither
substitutes for the other.
daemon.json.j2 takes the data-root block from swarm-nfs and keeps HEAD's dns
key. The incoming side writes networks.internet.dns directly; lookup(
'container_dns') already returns that value as its clearnet entry and prepends
the docker0 bridge on a Tor node in compose mode, so the incoming form is a
strict subset and dropping it loses nothing.
The WordPress CA-trust addon spec gains skipUnlessServiceEnabled("sso") from
swarm-nfs alongside HEAD's gotoOnion and resolveTimeout, and asserts on the
Plugin Name the mu-plugin header declares - the mustuse screen renders that,
not the filename - with resolveTimeout applied to the literal the incoming
side left bare.

Ansible runs inside the infinito container for compose deploys, so the lookup('env', ...) that 1101433ea put into the swarm inventory resolved to the empty string there instead of the manager IP -- a silent path divergence rather than a visible error. Declare the key in the environment block, which is what tests/lint/filesystem/env/test_inventory_envs_forwarded_in_compose.py requires of every inventory env lookup.

INFINITO_PYTHON_INSTALL_SCRIPT and INFINITO_DOCKER_CLI_INSTALL_SCRIPT join the default.env SPOT: the Dockerfile consumes them as required args (:? in the RUN as last defense), all three image builders (compose.yml, build.sh, push.sh) pass them hard-required, the shell consumers read the SPOT via default.env grep and the Makefile via BASH_ENV. INFINITO_SWARM_NFS_EXPORT_BASE is no longer a static default: a new env handler derives it from the deploy SPOT group_vars/all/15_storage.yml, 00_topology greps that file (and the STATE_SUBDIR constant) directly, and the swarm test extras stop restating the group_vars value. Stale hadolint directives are restored and recognised; leftover narration comments in the touched files are dropped.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
INFINITO_PACKAGE_INSTALL_SCRIPT in default.env replaces the scripts/install/package.sh literal in the Dockerfile (new required build arg), the environment install step, and both swarm bootstrap call sites. Shell consumers hard-require the variable.

Mint the node onion during provisioning and write its address straight into applications.svc-net-tor.services.tor.node, dropping the INFINITO_TOR_NODE_ONION env indirection: ensure_node_onion (was init_env) mints/reuses the .onion-identity key files + returns the address (no env write); identity_hs_dir/IDENTITY_DIRNAME move to utils.tor_onion so cli and utils share the path SPOT; provision.apply_tor_node_onion sets services.tor.node in host_vars when svc-net-tor is deployed (run by 'inventory provision' at deploy time, and the svc-net-tor role copies the same key files into the daemon); domains.py reads services.tor.node; nginx_vhosts reads the key file instead of os.environ; INFINITO_TOR_NODE_ONION removed from default.env/passthrough/compose + the inventory env-lookup. Bonus: the address now lives in the persistent key files, surviving .env regeneration by make test/autoformat.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>
New env handler reads svc-net-tor services.tor.ports.local.socks (via ROLE_FILE_META_SERVICES) and emits INFINITO_TOR_SOCKS_PORT; registered in the handler registry + passthrough static keys + default.env, and forwarded to the container by compose.yml — so shell consumers (the Playwright rerunner) get the port without a literal. 08_networks.yml adds the local.socks PORT_BANDS band (9050).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The dev inventory resolves DIR_VAR_LIB via lookup('env','INFINITO_DIR_VAR_LIB'), but compose.yml never forwarded the var into the infinito container, so it resolved empty inside the DiD: relative FILE_TOKENS made the mailu no-reply token write and read at diverging paths and the sys-svc-mail assert failed.
Forward the key in the infinito service environment block, and add a lint test that fails when any lookup('env','INFINITO_*') in inventories/development/*.yml is not forwarded in compose.yml, so this class of bug cannot recur.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>
SPOT: declare the var-lib base once in default.env as INFINITO_DIR_VAR_LIB; the env build derives INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_REPORTS_BASE_DIR from it; reference it everywhere (utils/paths.py, scripts via ${...:?}, tests, the dev inventory's DIR_VAR_LIB injection) instead of hardcoding the literal. group_vars keeps the literal default; the env-lookup lives in the dev inventory per the no-ansible-env-lookups lint rule. pull_specific_host.py --folder is now required and the role passes {{ DIR_BACKUPS }}.
Swarm e2e: collect_playwright_reports.sh docker-cp's the reports off the manager plus a workflow upload step, so swarm Playwright traces reach CI artifacts (was compose-only).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Adds INFINITO_VENV_DIR=/opt/venvs/infinito to default.env (registered
in passthrough's STATIC_KEYS so make dotenv propagates it to .env) and
threads it through the build chain: compose.yml forwards it as a build
arg; scripts/image/push.sh asserts and --build-args it; the Dockerfile
declares the matching ARG/ENV and derives PYTHON/PIP/PATH from the
variable. scripts/meta/env/python.sh now prefers the value when set
before its fallback discovery so the SPOT is effective in env
resolution.
Fixes the dev image build regression where 'infinito --version' in
scripts/docker/entry.sh exited 127. Root cause: the Dockerfile RUN
SHELL uses bash -lc, which sources /etc/profile and resets PATH to
the Debian default, dropping ${INFINITO_VENV_DIR}/bin from it. The
fix invokes the script via its absolute path "${INFINITO_VENV_DIR}/bin/infinito"
so the post-install version check no longer depends on a PATH that
the login-shell init has just clobbered.
scripts/lint/wrapper.sh's existing PATH-reset note now references the
variable instead of the literal path. test-install-make.yml and
test-install-pkgmgr.yml read INFINITO_VENV_DIR from default.env up
front, pass it into their pkgmgr containers, and source the venv
activate script via the variable.

Root cause of step-08 deploy failures across all 4 test-development
distros in run 26572559126: `make compose-deploy mode=reinstall
apps=web-app-dashboard INFINITO_SERVICES_DISABLED=matomo` (step 07)
made make export the cmdline var into the recipe's shell env, which
reached `runner.py` → `make setup` → `make dotenv`. The dotenv
generator's `setdefault` then baked the runtime-only value into the
on-disk `.env`. Step 08 sourced that .env, filtered `web-app-matomo`
out of its primary apps, and exited with "All primary apps disabled".
Fix:
- Drop the 7 routing knobs (apps, mode, purge, bundles, disable,
full_cycle, variant) from `passthrough.STATIC_KEYS` and from
`default.env`. They are per-invocation; .env is the persistent SPOT
and must not capture them.
- Switch every consumer from `os.environ["KEY"]` strict access to
`os.environ.get("KEY", "")` so the missing-key path stops at "no
filter" instead of a KeyError.
- Rename the env-var surface to match the make-alias surface 1:1
(lowercase): INFINITO_APPS → apps, INFINITO_SERVICES_DISABLED →
disable, INFINITO_BUNDLES → bundles, INFINITO_FULL_CYCLE →
full_cycle, INFINITO_VARIANT → variant, INFINITO_DEPLOY_MODE → mode,
INFINITO_PURGE_ENTITIES → purge. The make alias was the user-facing
name in every doc; routing-knob env vars now use the same name so
the cmdline form, the recipe env-prefix, and the consumer reads
all line up.
- Collapse the Makefile `compose-deploy` recipe to just the two
knobs whose alias differs from the env name (`type` →
INFINITO_DEPLOY_TYPE, `debug` → INFINITO_DEBUG). GNU Make
auto-exports cmdline variables into the recipe's shell env, so the
identical-name `$(if $(apps),apps="$(apps)")` lines were pure
noise.
- Drop `disable: ${disable}` from compose.yml. The dev CLI builds
`extra_env` per `docker exec` call and forwards `disable` via
`-e`, so the container env never needs the value frozen at
compose-up time.
- Update the 3 actual leak call sites
(07/08/09_deploy_*.sh) to the make-alias form
(`disable=matomo`, `full_cycle=true`, `variant=1`).
- Add `SIM112` to ruff's ignore set: the lowercase env names are
the deliberate make/env parity, not a typo.
Repro before fix: `INFINITO_SERVICES_DISABLED=matomo make dotenv`
wrote `INFINITO_SERVICES_DISABLED=matomo` to `.env`. After fix:
`disable=matomo make dotenv` leaves `.env` untouched.
Tests: `make test` and `make autoformat` green (2711 tests, 8 lint
sub-targets).

default.env decomposed into INFINITO_PARENT_IMAGE_{OWNER,TAG,VARIANT}
atoms. New utils/env/handlers/infinito_parent_image.py owns the URL
composition `ghcr.io/{owner}/pkgmgr-{distro}:{tag}` as the single
definition site; scripts/image/{push,build}.sh consume the handler-
emitted INFINITO_PARENT_IMAGE from .env instead of inlining their own
format string.
Side effect: `compose up --build` now picks the parent image that
matches INFINITO_DISTRO. Previously default.env's hardcoded
pkgmgr-arch:stable won regardless, so debian-named containers were
silently built FROM the arch base. scripts/image/build.sh already
overrode per-distro, so its behavior is unchanged.
Other cleanups landed in the same pass:
- Slim variant removed end-to-end (Dockerfile stage, --variant CLI
flag, slim suffix logic). Zero in-repo callers used it.
- compose.yml build-args INFINITO_PARENT_IMAGE / INFINITO_SRC_DIR now
carry the same `:?Run 'make dotenv'…` guard as the runtime entries,
so a missing .env fails fast with a clear message instead of with
buildkit's `base name should not be blank`.
Note: fork-CI (pull_request_target trusted-helpers path) will stay red
until main's scripts/image/push.sh and scripts/meta/wait/images.sh
adopt the INFINITO_* names too — that is the deliberate cost of
keeping a single SPOT instead of carrying a bridge alias.

compose.yml no longer hides services behind \`profiles: ["ci"]\`. The
profile existed solely as a no-op safety net against a bare
\`docker compose up\` in the repo root, but the top-level compose.yml is
already explicitly scoped to local dev / CI testing (production goes
through the Ansible roles under roles/<role>/templates/), so the safety
net is redundant with the documented scope.
Every \`--profile ci\` callsite collapses:
- compose.yml: \`profiles: ["ci"]\` removed from coredns + infinito
- Profile.args() deleted; Profile keeps is_ci() and
registry_cache_active() for the cache-override gating
- compose.py / down.py: profile.args() splat removed from the
docker-compose command builder; down.py drops its now-unused
Profile import
- 5 shell wrappers (install, lint, tests/code, meta/resolve/apps,
meta/resolve/diff/affected_roles): plain \`docker compose\` instead
of \`docker compose --profile ci\`
- tests/unit/.../test_profile.py: TestProfileArgs class removed
- tests/unit/.../test_compose.py: two cmd-shape asserts updated to
reflect the missing --profile pair
Docs:
- docs/contributing/artefact/files/compose.yml.md: the
\"every service MUST be behind a profiles: entry\" rule is gone
- docs/contributing/actions/debugging/ci.md: the
\`docker compose ... --profile ci config\` debug snippet drops the
flag; while touching the file the two em-dash clause separators in
the reproduction-profiles shell block are rewritten to colons
(documentation.md em-dash rule), and one list-item in
compose.yml.md is collapsed to one sentence per line for
consistency with its siblings

Renames the container-wrapper CA toggle from the negated INFINITO_CONTAINER_NO_CA
to the positive INFINITO_CONTAINER_CA_ENABLED, mirroring the BUILDKIT_ENABLED
pattern: SPOT in env/default.env (default 1), passthrough handler + .env baseline
test, compose.yml env block, the CA_CONTAINER_ENABLED ansible var in
group_vars/all/02_tls.yml, a playbook-level CA_CONTAINER_ENABLED task-env
projection, and a strict `== "1"` read in container.py. Also drops the
redundant INFINITO_ prefix from the DNS/DOMAIN/IP4 vars that the DinD-DNS
test-dns.sh handler injects, since those names are local to the script's
caller-controlled env block. Finally lets pull.py fall back to a plain
`compose build` when `compose build --pull` fails — BuildKit can then use the
local FROM image instead of requiring a registry round-trip.

Lets operators force the legacy docker builder via INFINITO_BUILDKIT_ENABLED=0
(propagated through env/default.env, the compose env block, the BUILDKIT_ENABLED
ansible var and both the compose wrapper and the Build-compose handler), and
makes sys-svc-compose pull.py treat a failed `docker compose pull` as success
when every required image is already present locally — both needed to deploy
in sandboxed environments where docker.io is unreachable.

Same KeyError class as 28e7c20cf (INFINITO_SERVICES_DISABLED):
roles/sys-svc-container/files/container.py:450 reads
os.environ["INFINITO_CONTAINER_NO_CA"] strictly. The variable is
emitted into the host shell .env via passthrough.STATIC_KEYS, but the
compose `environment:` block did not forward it, so docker compose
substitution was never wired into the container.
Triggers as soon as the DinD-DNS handler (sys-svc-container/handlers)
invokes `container run` from inside test-dns.sh, well past the first
visible failure point. With this entry the inner container.py reads
"" (the env/default.env default) and treats CA injection as enabled
— the intended behaviour.

CI run 26195893710 surfaced a KeyError when `infinito administration
inventory provision` runs inside the container via
`docker compose exec`. services_disabler.py reads
`os.environ["INFINITO_SERVICES_DISABLED"]` strictly, but the container
env did not carry the variable: it was set on the host shell (from
env/default.env via the env-builder) and forwarded via `-e` only when
the orchestrator detected a non-empty value
(deploy/development/inventory/builder.py:71). With the default empty
value, no `-e` flag was added and the strict read crashed in-container.
Expose the variable through the compose `environment:` block — same
pattern as INFINITO_DNS_IP / INFINITO_DOMAIN / INFINITO_IP4 / IP6 /
PLAYWRIGHT_KEEP / SRC_DIR — so the in-container read is guaranteed
regardless of the orchestrator's `-e` decision.
Validated with `make test` (lint + test-lint + test-external + test-unit
+ test-integration all green).

Closes a stack of env-pipeline regressions left over from the recent
INFINITO_* namespace refactor by:
* DOMAIN_PRIMARY now reads INFINITO_DOMAIN strictly (was: legacy DOMAIN
env var → defaulted to infinito.localhost, which never resolved
because CoreDNS serves the INFINITO_DOMAIN value, infinito.example).
* group_vars/all/08_networks.yml IPs (ip4/ip6/dns) now read
INFINITO_IP4 / INFINITO_IP6 / INFINITO_DNS_IP.
* PLAYWRIGHT_KEEP_ALL renamed to INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_KEEP end-to-end
(env-builder, role default, run_one.yml docker exec, playwright.config.js,
lint allowlist, docs anchor, CI workflow vars).
* PKGMGR_IMAGE renamed to INFINITO_PARENT_IMAGE; Dockerfile ARG drops
the inline default so env/default.env is the only SPOT.
* INFINITO_SRC_DIR centralized: Dockerfile ARG (no default) + ENV;
compose forwards it as build-arg, volume mount path, and container env;
every Python CLI + shell helper + CI workflow now reads it strictly
(os.environ[...] / "${INFINITO_SRC_DIR:?...}") instead of the literal
/opt/src/infinito.
* New entries in env/default.env: INFINITO_IP6=::1, INFINITO_PARENT_IMAGE,
INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_KEEP=false. All three propagated through
utils/env/handlers/passthrough.STATIC_KEYS and (where consumed in the
container) through compose.yml's environment block.
Validated end-to-end with `make test` (2360 tests across lint, lint-*,
test-lint, test-external, test-unit, test-integration).

scripts/docker/entry.sh's two compile-control reads (INFINITO_COMPILE
and INFINITO_COMPILE_SILENCE) crashed during Dockerfile RUN because
that context has no env-pipeline: env/default.env exists in the repo
but no make/BASH_ENV/load.sh chain materialises it into the running
shell. The bare reads under `set -u` triggered unbound-variable exit
even though the keys were registered in default.env + passthrough.
Move build/silence control from env to script flags so entry.sh is
self-contained at bootstrap time. Each flag now triggers its action
directly inside the parse loop -- no COMPILE/SILENCE state vars:
--compile -> run_local_build (streaming)
--compile-silent -> run_local_build >/dev/null 2>&1
-- -> end flag parsing, rest is the exec target
Drop INFINITO_COMPILE + INFINITO_COMPILE_SILENCE from the whole
registry surface: env/default.env, passthrough.STATIC_KEYS, the
infinito_compile handler (gone entirely), compose.yml's env
injection block, the dotenv-generator baseline test, the
build_env unit-test fixture, and the now-no-op `-e INFINITO_COMPILE=0`
in test-install-{make,pkgmgr} workflows.
Dockerfile RUN switches to `entry.sh --compile -- true`; runtime
ENTRYPOINT receives no flags so the default (no-compile) holds and
exec hands off to systemd via the CMD.

Three new lint tests close gaps in the INFINITO_* SPOT contract:
* tests/lint/filesystem/env/test_default_env_keys_handled.py
Every default.env key must be wired through a handler.
* tests/lint/filesystem/env/test_used_keys_declared.py
Every INFINITO_* in .sh/.py must live in env/{default,ci}.env or
a handler; per-line `# nocheck:` suppresses runtime-only refs.
* tests/lint/filesystem/python/test_no_infinito_get_defaults.py
Forbid ANY default in `.get("INFINITO_*", ...)` -- including the
empty-string fallback (which silently masks an unset key). The
nocheck check walks every physical line the call spans so an
autoformat-split call still honours the marker.
Cache namespace flattens to a single prefix:
INFINITO_PACKAGE_CACHE_* -> INFINITO_CACHE_PACKAGE_*
INFINITO_REGISTRY_CACHE_* -> INFINITO_CACHE_REGISTRY_*
The five previously driver-injected paths (APT_LIST, NPMRC,
PIP_CONF, REGISTRY_PROXY_CONF, FRONTEND_CA_FILE) move into
env/default.env and passthrough.STATIC_KEYS; the
`cache_env_overrides()` helper and its two call sites are gone
along with the test-fixture override for FRONTEND_CA_DIR.
SPOT-strict rewrites:
- 19 sites: `something.get("INFINITO_X", "")` -> subscript
`something["INFINITO_X"]` (loud KeyError when env loader did
not run; all keys live in env/default.env).
- 2 handler-internal bootstrap reads suppressed with
`# nocheck: handler-bootstrap-read`.
- 30 runtime-only / driver-injected / test-fixture references
annotated with `# nocheck: <reason>` per-line.
- Unit tests that previously removed SPOT-guaranteed keys via
`{k: v ... if k \!= KEY}` or `clear=True` switch to setting
the key to "" explicitly, matching the new contract.
Side fixes:
- INFINITO_DNS_DOMAIN + INFINITO_DNS_HOSTS_FILE move from
shell-side defaults in common.sh to env/default.env and
passthrough.STATIC_KEYS.
- dns_systemd_is_operational() drops the dead
INFINITO_DNS_FORCE_HOSTS_FALLBACK override branch (the
variable was never set anywhere).
- INFINITO_WORKER_FETCH switches from `os.environ.get(KEY, "1")`
to `os.environ[KEY]`.
- scripts/tests/code/wrapper.sh exec args move into a bash
array so `# nocheck:` on INFINITO_TEST_TYPE can live on its
own element line (SC2215 fix).

Replace 8 bash env modules with a single Python generator
(cli.meta.env) that materialises env/static.env + runtime context
into a gitignored .env. Each variable lives in its own handler
under utils/env/handlers/; defaults carry inline one-line `# ...`
comments.
Rename to the INFINITO_* schema:
- workflow inputs: APPS, SERVICES_DISABLED, CMD, DEBUG, WHITELIST,
BUNDLES, FULL_CYCLE, VARIANT, RUN_FLAGS, LIMIT_HOST, PARALLEL
- inventory: INVENTORY_DIR / INVENTORY_FILE / HOST_VARS_FILE,
PW_FILE -> INVENTORY_PASSWORD_FILE
- venv: VENV_BASE / VENV_FALLBACK / VENV_NAME
- new SPOT defaults: COMPILE_SILENCE, CONTAINER_NO_CA,
WAIT_HEALTH_TIMEOUT_S, PACKAGE_CACHE_FRONTEND_INIT_IMAGE,
promoted IMAGE_TAG from GHA-only to general passthrough
compose.yml hardening:
- inline \${VAR:-default} removed; strict \${VAR:?...} everywhere
- new integration lint blocks regressions
Tooling:
- scripts/install/all.sh owns the stamp-file install logic
(Makefile target delegates)
- scripts/meta/env/load.sh is the single shell entry point;
8 bash modules deleted
- new shell lint: no INFINITO_* defaults outside env/static.env
Tests:
- 93 new unit tests for utils/env/{builder,parser,runtime,writer}
- restructure tests/lint into repository/ (file-content rules) vs
filesystem/{shell,python,env}/ (filesystem-shape rules)
- drift + smoke integration tests against the generator
Docs:
- variables.md is now a pointer; per-variable docs live next to
the key in env/static.env / env/ci.env
- compose.yml.md drops the Default column

* scripts/lint/autoformat.sh:
- rename run_sort_claude_settings worker to run_claude (matches the
renamed scripts/lint/claude.sh).
- drop the EXIT trap that wiped status_dir; cleanup happens explicitly
after `wait` returns, so a parallel worker that interrupts the
parent never races a vanished status dir.
- each worker now captures its tool's exit code and writes one of
OK / SKIP / FAIL. Tolerated `expected violations remain`-style exits
(markdownlint-cli2 rc≤1, ansible-lint rc≤2) still count as OK; only
real failures count as FAIL.
- all workers run to completion regardless of individual tool failures
(so the user always sees the full picture); after the summary, the
script exits 1 if any worker reported FAIL.
* scripts/lint/sort_claude_settings.sh -> scripts/lint/claude.sh
(history preserved via git mv); update test_claude_settings_sorted.py
fix-hint accordingly.
Plus working-tree drift across roles/, group_vars/, inventories/,
requirements/, and .pre-commit-config.yaml accumulated from the
make-test setup phase regenerating generated artefacts during recent
test runs.

Extend the local cache stack with three independent capabilities:
1. Inner-`dockerd` build coverage for HTTP-only package mirrors.
`roles/sys-svc-compose/files/compose.py` (the runner's `compose`
wrapper) auto-generates a transient `compose.cache.override.yml`
per app when `INFINITO_PACKAGE_CACHE_FRONTEND_IP` is exported. The
override pins `build.extra_hosts` for `deb.debian.org`,
`archive.ubuntu.com`, and `security.ubuntu.com` to the frontend.
`pull.py` now delegates to the wrapper so build/pull operations see
the same `-f` set the wrapper auto-detects. nginx in the frontend
gains a port-80 listener with path rewrites for those hostnames,
and `package.sh` registers two new Nexus proxies
(`apt-debian-security`, `apt-ubuntu-security`) for the security
suites whose upstream URL prefix differs from the main archive.
Alpine is intentionally excluded from the inner-build extra_hosts:
3.18+ defaults to HTTPS, and inner-`dockerd` build containers do
not import the frontend CA. Routing apk through the frontend would
trip TLS verification.
2. General cache freshness env-var. `scripts/meta/env/cache/package.sh`
exports `INFINITO_PACKAGE_CACHE_MAX_AGE_MIN` (default `129600`,
i.e. 90 days). The bootstrap helper consumes it for every Nexus
proxy's `contentMaxAge`, `metadataMaxAge`, and
`negativeCache.timeToLive`, replacing the previous 1440-minute
literal. Lower the value when chasing fast-moving upstreams.
3. SPOT cache documentation at `docs/contributing/environment/cache.md`.
`compose.yml.md`, `variables.md`, the per-service READMEs, and
`requirements/012-...` now link to it instead of restating the
stack's behaviour. Net documentation lines drop substantially while
the cache page becomes the single user-facing reference.
Also: code-comment cleanup per `docs/contributing/documentation.md`
guidelines across all touched .py / .sh / .yml files. Multi-paragraph
docstrings, banner separators, and restate-the-obvious comments are
removed; one-line WHY comments remain where the rationale is not
already visible in the code.

Add a TLS-terminating reverse proxy in front of the Sonatype Nexus 3 OSS
pull-through cache so the `infinito` runner can hit upstream
package-manager URLs (pypi.org, registry.npmjs.org, rubygems.org,
repo.packagist.org, proxy.golang.org, dl-cdn.alpinelinux.org,
files.pythonhosted.org, raw.githubusercontent.com, codeload.github.com)
unchanged and still flow through Nexus.
Mechanism:
* scripts/docker/cache/package-frontend-certs.sh — host-side helper,
idempotently generates a dedicated CA + per-hostname leaf certs.
* compose/package-cache-frontend/upstreams.conf — nginx server-blocks
that match SNI per hostname and reverse-proxy onto the matching
Nexus repo path.
* compose/cache.override.yml `infinito.extra_hosts` — DNS-hijack so
the runner's clients resolve each upstream onto the frontend's
static IP.
* scripts/docker/cache/package-frontend-ca.sh — runner-side helper,
drops the CA into the system trust store post-startup so apt/pip/
curl/etc. accept TLS against the hijacked hostnames.
* cli/deploy/development/compose.py — orchestrates cert gen before
compose-up, CA install after health.
Scope today: runner-only. App-service Dockerfile builds executed by
the inner dockerd are NOT routed through the frontend; that requires
build-time CA injection and is deferred.
Also extends scripts/docker/cache/package.sh with five additional
Nexus proxies registered for transparent use: gem-proxy, go-proxy,
yum-rocky, yum-fedora, raw-packagist, raw-alpine, raw-codeload-github.
Refactor: move all cache services + runner-side cache mounts/depends_on/
extra_hosts from compose.yml into compose/cache.override.yml. Base
compose.yml now describes only the bare CI/runtime stack (coredns +
infinito). The override file is the single gate for the cache stack;
`profiles: ["cache"]` attributes and `--profile cache` flag emission
were redundant once file inclusion controls existence and removed
accordingly.

Brings up the package-cache compose service alongside the existing
registry-cache, gated by the same `cache` profile. Bootstrap helper
(scripts/docker/cache/package.sh) auto-rotates the admin password from
the well-known default, accepts the Sonatype CE EULA (3.71+ blocks
artifact downloads with HTTP 403 until /v1/system/eula is POSTed —
disclaimer must be sent verbatim with its unicode quotes), enables
anonymous read, creates one default blobstore, and registers the MVP
proxy set: apt-debian, apt-ubuntu, pypi-proxy, npm-proxy, helm-bitnami,
raw-githubusercontent. The runner gets pip.conf / .npmrc /
sources.list snippets bind-mounted in (each defaulting to /dev/null
when the cache profile is inactive) so the deploy is byte-identical
with cache off.
Cache plumbing:
- scripts/meta/env/cache/{registry,package}.sh: per-cache env defaults,
hostname-derived admin password seed (uses `hostname` command, not
$HOSTNAME shell var, so the value is identical across interactive
shells, non-interactive subshells, and Python subprocesses).
- scripts/docker/cache/{registry-ca,package}.sh: container-side
bootstrap helpers, both moved under scripts/docker/cache/.
- scripts/system/cache/clean.sh + `make cache-clean`: wipes both
/var/cache/infinito/core/cache/{registry,package} dirs and stops
the cache containers.
- cli/deploy/development/compose.py: Profile gate exports the three
new INFINITO_PACKAGE_CACHE_* client-snippet paths and runs the
bootstrap helper after the package-cache reports healthy.
Compose service uses sonatype/nexus3:3.91.1-ubi pinned, runs as
root (UBI image refuses to chown a fresh bind-mount), and forces
NEXUS_SECURITY_RANDOMPASSWORD=false so the bootstrap can log in with
admin/admin123 before rotating; the random-password mode otherwise
auto-completes onboarding silently and leaves no readable secret on
disk for an automated bootstrap to pick up.
Tests: tests/unit/cli/deploy/development/test_compose.py grows two
new assertions (cache services listed in `up` args when local; build
tests pin CI=true to retain ci-only assertions).
Closes req-012.

The three INFINITO_REGISTRY_CACHE_* variables previously carried their
defaults in compose.yml as `${VAR:-...}`, which baked /tmp paths and
a static 32g cache size into the YAML. Move the defaults into a new
shell module that is sourced via `scripts/meta/env/all.sh` and tighten
compose.yml to require the variables strictly via `${VAR:?...}`.
Why
* Adapt cache size to the host. Hard-coding 32g hurts hosts where
`/tmp` is a small tmpfs (typical Linux: ~half of RAM); the cache
would either be capped above the partition or starve other tmpfs
users. Computing the default as half the free disk space at the
cache path leaves a usable budget for the rest of the system on
small hosts and grows on large ones.
* Single source of values. With defaults in shell, the compose YAML
no longer carries duplicated tunables; `compose.yml` just consumes
what the env layer provides. Same pattern as the existing
INFINITO_CONTAINER strict consumption.
Changes
* New scripts/meta/env/registry_cache.sh exports the three vars.
CACHE_MAX_SIZE = `df --output=avail -B1G "$path" / 2`, walking up to
the closest existing ancestor when the cache path itself does not
exist yet (it is created on first start by `bind:
create_host_path: true`). Minimum 1g, fallback 2g if `df` fails.
* scripts/meta/env/all.sh sources the new module so the Makefile-driven
flow picks it up automatically.
* compose.yml: three `${VAR:-default}` -> `${VAR:?Source scripts/meta/env/registry_cache.sh ...}`
so the absence of the env layer fails fast with a precise message.
* Stale block comment above the registry-cache service (CI-only,
/tmp-defaults, etc.) collapsed to a one-line pointer to the README,
per documentation.md "default to no comments / explain only the
non-obvious why".
* docs/contributing/environment/variables.md and
docs/contributing/artefact/files/compose.yml.md describe the new
defaults source and the half-free-disk computation.
Verified
`bash -c 'source scripts/meta/env/all.sh && docker compose --profile ci --profile cache config'`
resolves the three vars (CACHE_MAX_SIZE: 3g on a host with 7G free
in /tmp). Without sourcing, compose fails with the exact
"Source scripts/meta/env/registry_cache.sh ..." message.

Move the registry-cache pull-through proxy out of the always-on `ci`
profile into its own `cache` profile, and select it based on the runtime
environment instead of statically.
Why
The proxy only earns its keep when image pulls amortize across many
runs on the same host. That holds on developer machines (cross-run
image dedup, persistent host disk) but not on GitHub-hosted runners
(fresh disk per job), where the proxy startup overhead is net loss
without the corresponding payoff.
How
* Compose: split `registry-cache` into its own `cache` profile;
`infinito.depends_on.registry-cache` gets `required: false` so Compose
does not auto-start the proxy via the dependency when the profile is
inactive; the systemd drop-in bind-mount source is gated by the new
`INFINITO_REGISTRY_CACHE_PROXY_CONF` env var with `/dev/null` default,
so dockerd loads an empty drop-in (no `HTTP_PROXY`, no `ExecStartPre`)
when the proxy is not running and pulls images directly.
* New `cli/deploy/development/profile.py` `Profile` class is the SPOT
for which compose profiles activate. KISS + SRP: `is_ci()` reads the
three CI signals (`GITHUB_ACTIONS`, `RUNNING_ON_GITHUB`, `CI`),
`registry_cache_active()` is its strict inverse, and `args()` returns
the matching `--profile ...` flag list.
* `Compose` and `down.py` consume the same `Profile` so up/down cannot
drift on which services are part of the stack.
* Documentation under `compose/registry-cache/README.md`,
`docs/contributing/artefact/files/compose.yml.md` and
`docs/contributing/environment/variables.md` describes the new toggle
and the `INFINITO_REGISTRY_CACHE_PROXY_CONF` env var. Pre-existing
documentation.md violations in those files (one SPOT self-label, one
em dash, two path-as-link-text instances) corrected in the same pass
per the fix-nearby rule.
* Tests: 14 new `Profile` unit tests in `test_profile.py` plus two
scenario tests in `test_compose.py` that lock down the
`--profile ci` (CI runner) vs `--profile ci --profile cache` (local)
argument shape.

rpardini/docker-registry-proxy resolves upstream hosts like
mcr.microsoft.com via AAAA and tries to connect to the v6 address
first. On hosts without IPv6 outbound (developer laptops behind v4-
only NAT, CI runners with disabled IPv6), every cached pull through
the proxy fails with "502 Bad Gateway":
connect() to [2603:1061:f:101::10]:443 failed
(101: Network unreachable) while connecting to upstream
Set DISABLE_IPV6=true so the entrypoint appends `ipv6=off` to nginx's
resolver directive, forcing A-record fallback. Documented inline so
the next reader does not have to chase the rpardini entrypoint to
understand the intent.

Introduces a `registry-cache` service (rpardini/docker-registry-proxy) in
the `ci` profile that MITM-caches every outbound docker registry pull
made by `infinito`'s inner dockerd, drastically cutting bandwidth on
re-deploys, parallel CI shards, and local fresh-purges.
Wiring (all bind-mounted via compose.yml, no Dockerfile or entry.sh
staging, so edits hot-reload on next container start):
- CA bundle at /opt/registry-cache-ca (read-only),
- systemd drop-in at /etc/systemd/system/docker.service.d/registry-cache-proxy.conf,
- registry-cache-ca.sh at /usr/local/bin/registry-cache-ca.sh.
The drop-in registers registry-cache-ca.sh as ExecStartPre. Compose
gates `infinito` on `registry-cache` `service_healthy` so the CA is on
disk before dockerd boots; the install script supports both Debian
(`update-ca-certificates`) and Arch/Fedora (`update-ca-trust extract`)
trust stores, detected by command availability.
Also reorganizes compose/ into per-service subdirectories
(compose/coredns/, compose/registry-cache/) with README.md per directory
following the documentation guidelines, adds scripts/docker/README.md,
and nests the registry-cache host paths under /tmp/infinito/core/
(mirror/ for blobs, ca/ for the MITM CA bundle).

Follow-up to d002796a5. The formula `infinito_nexus_${INFINITO_DISTRO}` is
now defined in exactly one place — `scripts/meta/env/defaults.sh:18`,
exported outside the load-once guard so it tracks INFINITO_DISTRO across
matrix iterations (caller re-sources defaults.sh after distro changes).
Every other site reads INFINITO_CONTAINER strictly from env; nothing
re-derives the formula, no lazy/colon-dash fallbacks, no per-call defaults.
Production code aligned:
- cli/deploy/development/common.py: add resolve_container() (strict env
reader, raises SystemExit on unset). make_compose() calls it as an
early-fail guard so a missing defaults.sh source surfaces here instead
of as a confusing compose.yml interpolation error later.
- cli/deploy/development/deploy.py: stop re-deriving from compose.distro;
use resolve_container().
- compose.yml: container_name reads ${INFINITO_CONTAINER:?...} strictly,
so callers that bypass defaults.sh fail fast with a clear hint.
- scripts/meta/resolve/image/local.sh: drop ${INFINITO_DISTRO:-debian}
fallback; require INFINITO_DISTRO via :? error.
- scripts/tests/deploy/ci/dedicated.sh: drop local _container fallback.
- scripts/tests/deploy/local/deploy/fresh-kept-app.sh: drop redundant
${INFINITO_DISTRO:-debian} reassignment after sourcing env/all.sh
(defaults.sh already defaults the value).
- scripts/tests/deploy/local/deploy/fresh-purged-app.sh: drop
target_container fallback; INFINITO_CONTAINER is already in env.
- scripts/tests/deploy/local/exec/container.sh: drop the lazy
${INFINITO_CONTAINER:=infinito_nexus_...} default; defaults.sh source
in env/all.sh already guarantees the value.
- scripts/tests/dns.sh: source defaults.sh so callers only need to set
INFINITO_DISTRO (the implicit dependency was previously a footgun).
- scripts/system/tls/trust/{wsl2,linux}.sh: same — source defaults.sh,
drop the ${INFINITO_CONTAINER:-infinito_nexus_debian} fallback in
linux.sh.
- .github/workflows/test-dns.yml: drop redundant
INFINITO_CONTAINER: infinito_nexus_${{ matrix.distro }} from per-step
env blocks (3 sites). The env now flows from INFINITO_DISTRO via the
defaults.sh sourced inside the scripts.
- tests/unit/cli/deploy/development/test_matrix_deploy.py: replace the
module-level os.environ.setdefault('INFINITO_CONTAINER', 'infinito_nexus_arch')
shim — which itself encoded the formula — with a module-level patch of
resolve_container that returns an opaque test-fixture string. Drop the
now-unused distro="arch" field from the _args() Namespace fixture
(deploy.handler stopped consuming it after the --distro arg removal).
Documentation aligned:
- docs/contributing/environment/variables.md: rewrite the INFINITO_CONTAINER
row to spell out the SPOT contract — set automatically by defaults.sh,
never re-derived elsewhere, callers re-source defaults.sh after
changing INFINITO_DISTRO mid-process.
- docs/contributing/artefact/files/compose.yml.md: replace the
INFINITO_DISTRO row (which described the now-removed
`infinito_nexus_${INFINITO_DISTRO:-debian}` interpolation) with an
INFINITO_CONTAINER row noting the strict ${INFINITO_CONTAINER:?...} read.
Verified:
- Formula derivation: 1 production hit (the SPOT in defaults.sh:18).
- INFINITO_CONTAINER fallback patterns (:-/:=): 0.
- --distro CLI arg refs: 0 (one comment explaining the removal).
- make test green: 1553 unit + 168 integration tests, no skipped suites.

Expose INFINITO_MEM_LIMIT/INFINITO_MEMSWAP_LIMIT/INFINITO_CPUS on the
infinito service so operators can cap local runs to GitHub-hosted runner
specs and reproduce OOM failures like #162. Document the compose.yml as
a dev/CI-only artefact under docs/contributing/artefact/files/ and link
to it from the CI debugging guide.

Add scripts/meta/resolve/image/local.sh as SPOT for the local Docker
image tag (<repo-basename>/<distro>). Wire it into Makefile build
targets (IMAGE_TAG), compose.py (_base_env sets INFINITO_IMAGE), and
compose.yml (no default fallback). Fix build.sh to accept a pre-set
IMAGE_TAG without requiring REPO_PREFIX. Add make build + build-no-cache
to environment.sh test flow with correct section ordering.
