kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 a3c75bde74 fix(ci): load default.yml inventory vars in swarm deploy step
The swarm CI deploy invoked cli.administration.deploy.swarm with only
swarm.yml and the runtime extras as -e files. Default-inventory vars
(OIDC.CLIENT.SECRET, users, design, ...) were applied only to
host_vars/<MGR>.yml via the provision step's --vars-file argument, so
they reached mgr-01 but not the workers. Workers without OIDC.CLIENT
defaults rendered roles/web-app-keycloak/templates/import/clients/default.json.j2
into "object of type 'dict' has no attribute 'SECRET'" at the realm
import step (CI run 27044129926).

Load default.yml as inventory-wide extra-vars before swarm.yml, so the
two are merged uniformly across mgr-01 and workers. swarm.yml still
overrides any keys it sets (extra-vars merge left-to-right, last wins).

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 23e4d5a0b2 chore(workflows): replace whale emoji with picture frame in CI image build
Match the workflow's actual purpose (building OCI images) more
literally than the Docker mascot, freeing 🐳 for compose-specific
contexts (see test-deploy-compose.yml).

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 16a4298dbb refactor(ci): rename test-deploy-server to test-deploy-compose
Use whale (🐳) for the per-app matrix job to mirror the swarm
workflow's bee (🐝) pattern, and magnifying glass (🔍) for the
discover step. Keep the workflow header on the existing 📦 prefix to
stay consistent with the other test-deploy-* siblings.

Rename the workflow file and align all references:
  - ci-orchestrator.yml job key + uses: path
  - artifact names: inventory-server-* -> inventory-compose-*,
                    playwright-server-* -> playwright-compose-*
  - scripts/github/inventory/zip_compose_for_upload.sh output path
  - 3 docs files

INFINITO_DEPLOY_TYPE: server stays - that key is wired to the
invokable-rule registry in utils/roles/validation/invokable.py and is
a separate refactor concern.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 f279bd6d48 feat(swarm-test): verify routing-mesh reachability per app
Add 08_verify_reachable.sh between wait_converge (07) and seed_content
(09, renumbered from 08): TCP-connect via the manager's local
routing-mesh entry confirms incoming traffic reaches a live task. For
multi-replica services, additionally probe each node that hosts a
Running task to verify the mesh works locally on every task-bearing
node.

Skips services without published ports (tag-only roles, internal-only
services). Logs replica count and port list for debugging.

Renumber 08-12 -> 09-13 to keep the sequence contiguous.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 97b8db4943 fix(ci): source meta env loader in swarm deploy step
The swarm deploy step ran `python3 -m cli.administration.deploy.swarm`
directly in a fresh per-step shell, so the .env file written by `make
setup` was never exported into the deploy process. `lookup('env',
'INFINITO_DOMAIN')` then rendered to '' and canonical_domains_map
crashed during the OIDC merge on every web-app job.

Mirrors the server-CI pattern where scripts/tests/deploy/ci/all.sh
sources the loader before invoking ansible.

kevinveenbirkenbach 24b4a6beba fix(swarm-test): venv on PATH + restate static swarm.yml keys in extras
Two distinct breakages that let the workflow fail before ever reaching
the ansible deploy:

* `python3 -m utils.tests.swarm.*` (and friends) ran with the
  actions-setup interpreter that has no project deps, so the imports
  of `plugins.filter.canonical_domains_map` blew up on `from ansible.errors`.
  The swarm preamble scripts now source `scripts/meta/env/load.sh` so
  PATH picks up the venv `make install` populated, and the workflow itself
  uses `install-force` (under `act --bind` the build/install.stamp is the
  host's and would short-circuit the in-container install) plus pushes
  `\${VENV}/bin` onto GITHUB_PATH for downstream steps.

* `ansible-playbook -e @file` replaces top-level dicts rather than
  deep-merging them. The runtime-only extras file was dropping
  `storage.nfs.{export_base,version}`, `storage.backend`, and
  `swarm.{registry.port,network}` that the static
  `inventories/development/swarm.yml` ships. Re-state those keys
  in write_extras.py so the merge ends up with everything the roles need.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 3c775f058a chore(swarm-test): drop 05_install_project.sh, call \make setup\ directly
The script's three lines were redundant: \`pip install -e .\` and the
ansible-galaxy collection step are already covered by \`make install\`
(now landed in the swarm matrix preamble), and \`PYTHON=python3 bash
scripts/setup.sh\` is exactly what \`make setup\` invokes. Replace the
step with a direct \`make setup\` call.

Renumber the remaining scripts to keep the sequence lückenlos:

  06_provision_inventory.sh    -> 05_provision_inventory.sh
  07_debug_inventory.sh        -> 06_debug_inventory.sh
  08_wait_converge.sh          -> 07_wait_converge.sh
  09_seed_content.sh           -> 08_seed_content.sh
  10_drain_worker.sh           -> 09_drain_worker.sh
  11_assert_state.sh           -> 10_assert_state.sh
  12_collect_diagnostics.sh    -> 11_collect_diagnostics.sh
  13_cleanup.sh                -> 12_cleanup.sh

Workflow YAML updated to the new names. No script content changed.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 69b70b4934 fix(swarm-test): install project on the host runner before swarm-node setup
Add the canonical "Set up Python" + "Install project (host venv)" steps
to the swarm matrix job's preamble. The discover job already runs
`make install`; the matrix job did not, so when
03_start_swarm_nodes.sh shells out to
`python3 -m utils.tests.swarm.write_hosts_entries`, the import of
plugins.filter.canonical_domains_map failed with
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'ansible'.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 f67b913a4b feat(swarm): swarm-aware deploy CLI with inventory-derived dep closure
New ``cli.administration.deploy.swarm`` package wraps the strict
``cli.administration.deploy.dedicated`` runner with a layered closure
so swarm deploys never require operators (or test scripts) to
enumerate every infra role:

  effective --id = seed (operator --id, else inventory_role_groups)
                ∪ dep-walk(seed via applications_if_group_and_all_deps)
                ∪ default-placement safety net

The dep-walker is the same SPOT
(``utils.roles.applications.in_group_deps.applications_if_group_and_all_deps``)
the runtime constructor consumes via ``lookup('applications_current_play')``,
so the CLI-side closure and the in-play role set stay in sync.

The dedicated CLI keeps strict explicit-only semantics: ``main`` was
split into ``parse_args`` + ``run_from_args`` so the swarm wrapper
can share parser, mode wiring, validator and runner verbatim and
only mutate ``args.id``.

Meta-side: ``svc-db-postgres`` gains ``default_placement: manager``
(semantic symmetry with mariadb). ``default_placement`` is now a
PLACEMENT hint only ("if deployed, run on the manager"); deploy
decisions come from the dep-walk. Apps that declare ``mariadb:``
pull svc-db-mariadb; apps that declare ``postgres:`` pull
svc-db-postgres; apps that declare neither get no central DB.

Shared utils extracted so the four consumers stay aligned:
  * ``utils.inventory.groups.inventory_has_group``: YAML + INI static
    inventory group probe (extracted from ValidDeployId).
  * ``utils.roles.meta_lookup.{get_role_default_placement,
    iter_roles_with_default_placement}``: single source of truth for
    ``default_placement`` discovery (lookup plugin is now a thin wrapper).

Test pipeline (``scripts/tests/deploy/swarm/*``):
  * Heredoc-Python shells converted to proper modules under
    ``utils.tests.swarm.*`` and invoked via ``python -m``:
      - extend_inventory.py (was 08_extend_inventory.sh)
      - write_extras.py     (was 09_write_extras.sh dynamic half)
      - derive_includes.py  (replaces 06's hardcoded includes array)
      - write_hosts_entries.py (replaces 02's hardcoded /etc/hosts heredoc;
        derives every canonical + www-redirect domain from APP_ID via
        canonical_domains_map + generate_all_domains, so the test
        works for any app in the matrix without per-app maintenance)
  * 01_create_network.sh deleted (single docker command inlined in workflow).
  * 11_deploy.sh deleted (swarm CLI now called directly in workflow).
  * 09_write_extras.sh: static half moved to inventories/development/swarm.yml.
  * Remaining shell scripts renumbered 01-13 without gaps.
  * 08_wait_converge.sh: case block on DB_DEP replaced with single
    conditional (container name == DB_DEP).
  * 06_provision_inventory.sh: hardcoded includes array replaced with
    `mapfile -t includes < <(python -m utils.tests.swarm.derive_includes)`.
  * Workflow YAML step references updated to new script names + module
    invocations.

New tests (39 covering the closure surface):
  * tests/unit/cli/administration/deploy/swarm/test_closure.py (14)
  * tests/unit/utils/inventory/test_groups.py (11)
  * tests/unit/utils/roles/test_meta_lookup.py (+3 for default_placement)
  * tests/unit/utils/roles/validation/test_deploy_id.py (unchanged
    8 tests still pass after refactor onto the shared util).

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 98dafc3f4e feat(ci): zip and upload generated inventory as a debug artifact
Both deploy workflows now ship the rendered inventory for the matrix
entry as a zip artifact so failed runs can be inspected without
re-running the provisioner. test-deploy-swarm.yml zips /tmp/inv directly;
test-deploy-server.yml docker-cps /root/inventories from every running
infinito_nexus_* container into a staging dir first because the
inventory lives inside the compose container, not on the runner.

Both steps are if: always() to capture artifacts on failure too, but
gated on \!env.ACT because act-local does not provide
ACTIONS_RUNTIME_TOKEN and would otherwise fail the upload step.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 3476c20f0e revert(swarm-pilot): drop apt-cacher-ng bootstrap proxy
iter11/iter12/iter14 each hung nfs-server's `apt-get update` in TCP
CLOSE_WAIT against apt-cache:3142 for 5-60 minutes, even with
Pipeline-Depth=0 + No-Keep-Alive + Retries=3 + Timeout=30. Pulling once
into the cache and fanning out to four nodes saves ~4 minutes of
bootstrap when it works, but every run that hit the hang lost 20+
minutes — net negative.

Remove the workflow cache restore step, the 02b_start_apt_cache.sh
launcher, the apt.conf.d/01-cacher write in 05_bootstrap_nodes.sh, and
the apt-cache cleanup in 17_cleanup.sh. Each node now talks directly
to the upstream mirrors. Slower-but-reliable beats faster-but-stuck.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 948a6d6664 feat(swarm-pilot): bootstrap apt-cacher-ng on swarm-lab to cut node setup time
Adds a single apt-cacher-ng container (sameersbn/apt-cacher-ng:3.7.4-20220421)
on the swarm-lab network and routes every node's apt traffic through it via
/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01-cacher. With four nodes provisioning the same
infinito-nexus.deb deps in parallel (~200 MB / node), the cache turns the
second-through-fourth fetch into a hot serve from the local proxy.

The workflow restores ${{ runner.temp }}/apt-cacher-ng across runs via
actions/cache@v4 (keyed on packaging/debian/control), so on warm GHA runs
the cache is also populated for the first node — driving bootstrap from
~11 min toward sub-3 min once the cache is hot. The cache restore step is
guarded by `if: \!env.ACT` so act runs still exercise the cold path.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 83eee2d3c5 refactor(swarm): rename swarm-nfs workflow + parameterize pilot per app
Mirror the test-deploy-server iteration scaffold: discover + matrix on
the same app list (INFINITO_DEPLOY_TYPE=server), one swarm-deploy run
per app. Pilot scripts derive per-app context from APP_ID + role meta
(ENTITY, SERVICE_NAME, DB_DEP, CUSTOM_IMAGE_REPO, PRIMARY_NFS_VOLUME)
so they adapt to roles other than mediawiki.

- .github/workflows/test-deploy-swarm-nfs.yml -> test-deploy-swarm.yml
- scripts/tests/deploy/swarm-nfs-pilot/ -> scripts/tests/deploy/swarm/
- new _context.sh helper sourced by 07/08/11–16
- 07_provision_inventory + 08_extend_inventory + 11_deploy build their
  --include list from DB_DEP + APP_ID
- 12_wait_converge skips DB readiness when DB_DEP=none
- 13_seed_content seeds NFS marker only when meta/volumes.yml carries an
  nfs-flagged volume
- 14_drain_worker skips custom-image distribution when role has no
  build context
- 15_assert_state asserts marker survival only when an NFS volume exists
- ci-orchestrator wires the renamed job + passes whitelist through
- naming-pattern alignment across test-deploy-{server,universal,workstation,swarm}

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 00c4246c3a refactor(env): introduce INFINITO_VENV_DIR SPOT, fix dev image build
Adds INFINITO_VENV_DIR=/opt/venvs/infinito to default.env (registered
in passthrough's STATIC_KEYS so make dotenv propagates it to .env) and
threads it through the build chain: compose.yml forwards it as a build
arg; scripts/image/push.sh asserts and --build-args it; the Dockerfile
declares the matching ARG/ENV and derives PYTHON/PIP/PATH from the
variable. scripts/meta/env/python.sh now prefers the value when set
before its fallback discovery so the SPOT is effective in env
resolution.

Fixes the dev image build regression where 'infinito --version' in
scripts/docker/entry.sh exited 127. Root cause: the Dockerfile RUN
SHELL uses bash -lc, which sources /etc/profile and resets PATH to
the Debian default, dropping ${INFINITO_VENV_DIR}/bin from it. The
fix invokes the script via its absolute path "${INFINITO_VENV_DIR}/bin/infinito"
so the post-install version check no longer depends on a PATH that
the login-shell init has just clobbered.

scripts/lint/wrapper.sh's existing PATH-reset note now references the
variable instead of the literal path. test-install-make.yml and
test-install-pkgmgr.yml read INFINITO_VENV_DIR from default.env up
front, pass it into their pkgmgr containers, and source the venv
activate script via the variable.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 a561aa76b5 ci(push): skip push CI when an open PR already covers the branch
push_ci_policy.sh now hard-fails on missing GH_TOKEN/GITHUB_REPOSITORY
and, for non-main branches, calls gh pr list to detect whether the
push is already covered by an open pull request. If so, emits
should_run=false (skip_reason=pr-ci-covers-this-push) so the push
workflow exits cleanly and the pull_request workflow handles the
actual CI run.

To absorb the bot's push -> gh-pr-create latency on update/* and
alert-autofix-* branches, the PR check retries up to 10x with 2s
sleeps before falling through to a real CI run. Human branches
(feature/**, hotfix/**, fix/**, chore/**) check once with no delay.

entry-push-latest.yml's run-policy step now forwards GH_TOKEN so the
gh call works against the repo.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 915c7d4894 ci(workflows): enable pip cache and pin python 3.12 everywhere
Adds cache: pip + cache-dependency-path: pyproject.toml to every

pin on every workflow that still declared 3.11 to 3.12 so the project's
declared >=3.11 range collapses to a single interpreter version in CI.

test-deploy-* and test-code-* matrices that ran make install fresh on
every PR.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 806a3e93db ci(pr-flow): gate env-matrix on cross-cutting diffs, dedup resolution
Adds a detect-affected-roles job to entry-pull-request-change.yml that
runs the affected-roles resolver upfront on host python (via make
install) and emits whitelist + roles_only. ci-orchestrator skips
test-development when roles_only=true; done job tolerates the skip.
entry-manual derives roles_only from its whitelist input.

affected_roles.sh now invokes the resolver host-side only (compose-exec
fallback removed; it was a no-op in every existing caller because
compose was never up there, always emitting __ALL__ fail-safe). The
PR-flow gate consolidates what test-deploy-* used to recompute per
job; downstream effective_whitelist.sh now consumes the pre-resolved
whitelist verbatim.

Test fixture switched from a fake docker binary to a fake PYTHON
binary and clears BASH_ENV so the bash-startup env loader does not
reset PYTHON.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 8e293bd921 fix(compose-deploy): stop persisting runtime routing knobs into .env
Root cause of step-08 deploy failures across all 4 test-development
distros in run 26572559126: `make compose-deploy mode=reinstall
apps=web-app-dashboard INFINITO_SERVICES_DISABLED=matomo` (step 07)
made make export the cmdline var into the recipe's shell env, which
reached `runner.py` → `make setup` → `make dotenv`. The dotenv
generator's `setdefault` then baked the runtime-only value into the
on-disk `.env`. Step 08 sourced that .env, filtered `web-app-matomo`
out of its primary apps, and exited with "All primary apps disabled".

Fix:

- Drop the 7 routing knobs (apps, mode, purge, bundles, disable,
  full_cycle, variant) from `passthrough.STATIC_KEYS` and from
  `default.env`. They are per-invocation; .env is the persistent SPOT
  and must not capture them.
- Switch every consumer from `os.environ["KEY"]` strict access to
  `os.environ.get("KEY", "")` so the missing-key path stops at "no
  filter" instead of a KeyError.
- Rename the env-var surface to match the make-alias surface 1:1
  (lowercase): INFINITO_APPS → apps, INFINITO_SERVICES_DISABLED →
  disable, INFINITO_BUNDLES → bundles, INFINITO_FULL_CYCLE →
  full_cycle, INFINITO_VARIANT → variant, INFINITO_DEPLOY_MODE → mode,
  INFINITO_PURGE_ENTITIES → purge. The make alias was the user-facing
  name in every doc; routing-knob env vars now use the same name so
  the cmdline form, the recipe env-prefix, and the consumer reads
  all line up.
- Collapse the Makefile `compose-deploy` recipe to just the two
  knobs whose alias differs from the env name (`type` →
  INFINITO_DEPLOY_TYPE, `debug` → INFINITO_DEBUG). GNU Make
  auto-exports cmdline variables into the recipe's shell env, so the
  identical-name `$(if $(apps),apps="$(apps)")` lines were pure
  noise.
- Drop `disable: ${disable}` from compose.yml. The dev CLI builds
  `extra_env` per `docker exec` call and forwards `disable` via
  `-e`, so the container env never needs the value frozen at
  compose-up time.
- Update the 3 actual leak call sites
  (07/08/09_deploy_*.sh) to the make-alias form
  (`disable=matomo`, `full_cycle=true`, `variant=1`).
- Add `SIM112` to ruff's ignore set: the lowercase env names are
  the deliberate make/env parity, not a typo.

Repro before fix: `INFINITO_SERVICES_DISABLED=matomo make dotenv`
wrote `INFINITO_SERVICES_DISABLED=matomo` to `.env`. After fix:
`disable=matomo make dotenv` leaves `.env` untouched.

Tests: `make test` and `make autoformat` green (2711 tests, 8 lint
sub-targets).

Swap the input + rename the corresponding repository secret from

repository secret on infinito-nexus/core before merging; the old
`BOT_APP_ID` secret becomes orphaned and SHOULD be deleted in the

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 b0f79b3669 ci(test-environment): free host disk and bump CI cache caps to keep large distros from running out of space
Add jlumbroso/free-disk-space before checkout (swap-storage off since this
workflow has no enlarge_swap.sh replacement) and raise registry-cache to 16g
and package blobstore to 8g to absorb post-prune in-job re-pulls. CentOS runs
were hitting "no space left on device" during layer registration; reclaiming
the host's unused toolchains and default Docker images fixes the root cause.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 7ad7b5e76c feat(lint): add lint-playwright for per-role spec parse checks
Each role's Playwright spec is staged the same way `test-e2e-playwright` does at deploy time (central config + personas tree + service-gating) and `npx playwright test --list` runs against it. `--list` skips the browser launch and any test body, so this catches refactor regressions like missing helpers, broken exports, or syntax errors in seconds instead of waiting for a full deploy. Stub env values keyed off the variable-name suffix satisfy the few specs that build URLs or call `.replace()` at module-load time.

Parallelism caps at `INFINITO_WORKER_CPU` (same env knob as `scripts/make/parallel.sh`); output is replayed in `SPEC_FILES` order after all workers drain so stdout stays deterministic. `@playwright/test` ships as a devDep via the existing eslint `npm ci`. Workflow wires into `ci-orchestrator.yml` behind the `lint-gate`.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 7b9c0d2404 refactor(profile): emit per-role runtimes for every role instead of a top-N slice
`role_summary.py` no longer truncates to a configurable top-N: drops
`DEFAULT_TOP_N`, `TOP_N_ENV_KEY`, and `_read_top_n`; `_format_table`
renders all rows from `parse_role_times`. Renames the Markdown
heading and the corresponding GitHub Actions step in the four
`test-deploy-*` workflows from `Top role runtimes` to
`Role runtimes` for accuracy.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 c02229b4be refactor(make): align targets to domain prefixes (compose-, network-, etc.)
Apply a consistent naming convention to the Make target inventory so
every target is grouped by its domain:

- compose-*  (compose-up/down/restart/stop/exec/inner-run)
- network-*  (network-dns-setup/remove, network-ipv6-disable/restore,
              network-refresh, network-trust-ca)
- security-* (security-apparmor-restore/teardown)
- diagnose-* (diagnose-network, diagnose-disk-usage)
- fix-*      (fix-chmod, fix-dockerignore)
- clean-*    (clean-cache, clean-pycache-dirs)
- install-*  (install-agent)
- meta-*     (meta-list, meta-tree, meta-mig)

Drop the stale debug-network target and reintroduce its functionality
as diagnose-network. Cascade renames through:

- Makefile (.PHONY entries, prereqs, recursive $(MAKE) calls)
- contributor docs, agent-iteration docs, role-level docs
- bundle README, environment scripts, install/lint/test wrappers
- AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md, compose/cache.override.yml, .github/workflows

Historical entries under docs/requirements/ and changelog/ stay
untouched as audit logs.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 356e3366be feat(make): consolidate local deploy into single make deploy router
Replace the seven separate deploy-* make targets with a single `make
deploy` recipe that maps short Make variables to the canonical
INFINITO_* environment variables and dispatches via the new
scripts/tests/deploy/local/deploy/main.sh router. main.sh and all
sub-scripts continue to read the long-form names, so Ansible passthrough
and container forwarding stay unchanged.

Short Make CLI now exposes apps, mode, purge, type, bundles, disabled,
and full_cycle as aliases. The router picks the verb folder
(initialize, reinstall, update) and scope (all, selection) based on the
chosen mode plus the presence of INFINITO_APPS or INFINITO_BUNDLES.

Also folds in the global INFINITO_TEST_DEPLOY_TYPE -> INFINITO_DEPLOY_TYPE
rename across default.env, passthrough handler, dotenv test, CI deploy
workflows, discovery scripts, and the server stage task.

Active contributor and agent-iteration docs, role-level Administration
and README files, the bundles README, and the deploy reset helper are
all retargeted to the new short CLI. docs/requirements/ entries stay
untouched as historical audit logs.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 182260d6ee feat(ci): surface top-N Ansible role runtimes in deploy job summary
Enable the ansible.posix.profile_roles callback alongside profile_tasks
so every deploy run emits a per-role runtime block. Each test-deploy
workflow now writes the Ansible log to ANSIBLE_LOG_PATH and runs a new
post-step that parses the block, aggregates duplicate role entries,
sorts by total duration, and writes the top-N (default 20, override via
INFINITO_PROFILE_TOP_N) as a Markdown table to $GITHUB_STEP_SUMMARY so
the table appears on the Actions job overview page. Includes 15 unit
tests covering aggregation, ANSI stripping, task/total filtering,
env-knob handling, and step-summary writes.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 12a56e449d refactor(env): move env/default.env to repo-root default.env and drop env/
With env.development and env/ci.env both gone, env/default.env was the
last inhabitant of the directory. Hoisting it to the repo root removes
the empty-shell indirection: the SPOT is now [default.env](default.env),
sitting next to .env (its generated companion) and other repo-root
configuration artefacts like compose.yml, Dockerfile, and Makefile.

Path updates land in:
- generator: cli/meta/env/__main__.py (REPO_ROOT / "default.env")
- workflow: .github/workflows/test-install-make.yml (awk reads from
  default.env, error message updated in lockstep)
- lint tests: test_used_keys_declared.py and test_infinito_prefix.py
  switched from globbing env/*.env to targeting default.env directly;
  test_default_env_keys_handled.py points at the new path
- drift test: test_inventory_vars_file_spot.py whitelist + STATIC_ENV
- smoke test: tests/integration/meta/env/test_dotenv_generator.py
  STATIC_ENV + every docstring/error message

Doc-string and prose references in utils/env/*, scripts/*,
cli/administration/deploy/development/{common,coredns}.py,
Makefile, Dockerfile, and every doc page that mentioned env/default.env
are rewritten in the same pass so future readers see one path.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 07a9440ac7 refactor(env): fold ci.env into default.env so INFINITO_IP4/DNS/DOMAIN reach Ansible
The four ci.env keys (INFINITO_DNS_IP, INFINITO_DOMAIN, INFINITO_DOMAIN_RE,
INFINITO_IP4) were only honored by docker compose --env-file, so processes
that sourced .env via load.sh saw INFINITO_IP4 as unset. As a result
networks.internet.ip4 in the Ansible playbook fell through to the
127.0.0.1 default and the DinD DNS-check handler failed on the deploy
server matrix.

Moving the defaults into env/default.env makes them flow through the same
.env / load.sh / os.environ chain as every other INFINITO_* key, so
\${INFINITO_IP4} in compose.yml, lookup('env', 'INFINITO_IP4') in
group_vars, and envsubst over the CoreDNS Corefile template all see the
same value deterministically.

Side fix: utils/env/parser.py now undoes the writer's \\\\/\\" escaping for
quoted values, closing a round-trip gap that surfaced once
INFINITO_DOMAIN_RE (the only value containing a literal backslash) started
flowing through the generator.

All --env-file env/ci.env call sites (compose.py, down.py, install/lint/
test wrappers, resolve scripts, test-dns workflow + script) are removed.
coredns.py now reads .env via parse_static_env, docs and unit/integration
tests follow.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 ce48a8151a refactor(ci): extract images-build-ci inline blocks into runner SPOTs
Three inline `run:` blocks moved into `scripts/github/runner/`:

* `images_build_outputs.sh "$distros" "$image_tag"` — replaces the
  matrix/image_tag computation in the "Compute matrix JSON" step; emits
  both outputs to $GITHUB_OUTPUT in one call.
* `distros_matrix.sh "$distros"` — the matrix-JSON primitive
  (`split(" ") | map(select(length>0))`), reused by test-dns.yml's
  matrix step. Removes the jq duplicate that lived in both workflows.
* The two pre/post-build `Disk pressure` steps now invoke the already-
  existing `disk_pressure_report.sh PRE-BUILD` / `POST-BUILD` instead of
  duplicating the df/docker-system-df/buildx-du block inline.

Behaviour unchanged; the workflow runs the same commands via the SPOT
helpers.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 a77a570409 refactor(env): consolidate INFINITO_* namespace and centralize path/image SPOTs
Closes a stack of env-pipeline regressions left over from the recent
INFINITO_* namespace refactor by:

* DOMAIN_PRIMARY now reads INFINITO_DOMAIN strictly (was: legacy DOMAIN
  env var → defaulted to infinito.localhost, which never resolved
  because CoreDNS serves the INFINITO_DOMAIN value, infinito.example).
* group_vars/all/08_networks.yml IPs (ip4/ip6/dns) now read
  INFINITO_IP4 / INFINITO_IP6 / INFINITO_DNS_IP.
* PLAYWRIGHT_KEEP_ALL renamed to INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_KEEP end-to-end
  (env-builder, role default, run_one.yml docker exec, playwright.config.js,
  lint allowlist, docs anchor, CI workflow vars).
* PKGMGR_IMAGE renamed to INFINITO_PARENT_IMAGE; Dockerfile ARG drops
  the inline default so env/default.env is the only SPOT.
* INFINITO_SRC_DIR centralized: Dockerfile ARG (no default) + ENV;
  compose forwards it as build-arg, volume mount path, and container env;
  every Python CLI + shell helper + CI workflow now reads it strictly
  (os.environ[...] / "${INFINITO_SRC_DIR:?...}") instead of the literal
  /opt/src/infinito.
* New entries in env/default.env: INFINITO_IP6=::1, INFINITO_PARENT_IMAGE,
  INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_KEEP=false. All three propagated through
  utils/env/handlers/passthrough.STATIC_KEYS and (where consumed in the
  container) through compose.yml's environment block.

Validated end-to-end with `make test` (2360 tests across lint, lint-*,
test-lint, test-external, test-unit, test-integration).

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 81b57f6f50 refactor(env): rename INFINITO_NO_BUILD -> INFINITO_BUILD with inverted truthiness
Promote the key from GHA-only (gha_passthrough) to always-emitted (passthrough)
so the deploy CLI can read it strictly via os.environ[...]. The previous
INFINITO_NO_BUILD layout left the key unset locally, which crashed
cli/.../up.py and cli/.../compose.py with KeyError after the env-pipeline
refactor that introduced gha_passthrough.

New semantics:
  INFINITO_BUILD=1 build the local image (default; local mode)
  INFINITO_BUILD=0 skip build, pull image (CI overrides via -e)

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 20b78fa778 ci(workflows): shorten job display names in GHA UI
Tighten the names shown in the GitHub Actions UI summary so the
job rail reads as a function tag rather than a sentence:

  test-code-{lint,unit,integration,external}: "🧪 Run X tests" -> "🧪 Test X"
  security-codeql:    "🔐 Check security"            -> "🔐 Security"
  images-build-ci:    "🏗️ Build image (<distro>)"     -> "🏗️ build (<distro>)"
  test-install-make:  "🛠️ Test make install"         -> "🛠️ Makefile"
  test-install-pkgmgr:"📦 Test pkgmgr install"        -> "📦 PKGMGR"
  test-environment:   "🧑‍💻 Test Environment (<img>)" -> "🧑‍💻 Environment (<img>)"
  fork-prereqs-ready: "🚦 Gate fork prerequisites"   -> "🚦 Gate Dependencies"
  code-quality-gate: (unnamed, fell back to id) -> "🚦 Gate Quality"

Step labels and workflow-level `name:` fields are untouched -- only
the per-job display names change.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 ba724c576d ci(deploy): skip make up for app discovery via host-mode runner
The four test-deploy workflows (server/universal/workstation/local)
each started the full compose stack just so scripts/meta/resolve/
apps.sh could call its meta-CLI inside the container. The stack
spin-up dwarfed the actual discovery query.

Introduce INFINITO_APP_DISCOVERY_RUNNER (host|docker, default
`docker` for local dev) alongside the existing INFINITO_TEST_RUNNER
/ INFINITO_LINT_RUNNER dispatch knobs. In host mode apps.sh runs
the meta-CLI through the venv python directly; docker mode keeps
the existing `docker compose --profile ci exec` path.

Workflows switch to host mode and replace `make up` with
actions/setup-python@v5 + `make install`. make install was already
a prereq of make up, so the install cost is unchanged -- only the
docker pull + container start time disappears.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 96921abee2 ci(orchestrator): gate image build on full code-quality, not just test-code
build-ci-images previously depended on (fork-prereqs-ready,
test-code-gate). That let an image build start while lint or
security-codeql were still in flight. Reorder so the build gate is
code-quality-gate, which already aggregates lint-gate + test-code-gate
+ security-codeql -- a single barrier instead of two halves.

The reordering also removes the redundant `code-quality-gate` edge
on test-dns: with build-ci-images now downstream of code-quality-gate,
test-dns inherits the dependency transitively through build-ci-images.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 b278cd8ccd refactor(entry.sh): switch INFINITO_COMPILE{,_SILENCE} env-vars to flags
scripts/docker/entry.sh's two compile-control reads (INFINITO_COMPILE
and INFINITO_COMPILE_SILENCE) crashed during Dockerfile RUN because
that context has no env-pipeline: env/default.env exists in the repo
but no make/BASH_ENV/load.sh chain materialises it into the running
shell. The bare reads under `set -u` triggered unbound-variable exit
even though the keys were registered in default.env + passthrough.

Move build/silence control from env to script flags so entry.sh is
self-contained at bootstrap time. Each flag now triggers its action
directly inside the parse loop -- no COMPILE/SILENCE state vars:

    --compile         -> run_local_build (streaming)
    --compile-silent  -> run_local_build >/dev/null 2>&1
    -- -> end flag parsing, rest is the exec target

Drop INFINITO_COMPILE + INFINITO_COMPILE_SILENCE from the whole
registry surface: env/default.env, passthrough.STATIC_KEYS, the
infinito_compile handler (gone entirely), compose.yml's env
injection block, the dotenv-generator baseline test, the
build_env unit-test fixture, and the now-no-op `-e INFINITO_COMPILE=0`
in test-install-{make,pkgmgr} workflows.

Dockerfile RUN switches to `entry.sh --compile -- true`; runtime
ENTRYPOINT receives no flags so the default (no-compile) holds and
exec hands off to systemd via the CMD.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 9d7a1dce1e ci(workflows): pin lint-{ansible,javascript,makefile} to host runner
These three workflows install only their own toolchain (ansible-core +
ansible-lint, ESLint via npm, mbake) and then call `make lint-<type>`.
The make target has `install-lint` as a prereq which dispatches on
INFINITO_LINT_RUNNER (default `docker` from env/default.env), tries
`make up`, imports `cli.administration.deploy.development`, and crashes
because ruamel.yaml / the full Python toolchain isn't installed on the
runner.

Set `INFINITO_LINT_RUNNER: host` as job env so install-lint stays on
the host (delegates to `python3 -m utils.install.lint`) and the lint
wrappers exec the per-type scripts directly. lint-ansible passed by
accident last run but had the same bug -- fixed preventively.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 eb4bcd23a8 refactor(env/spot): forbid .get() defaults + cache namespace rename
Three new lint tests close gaps in the INFINITO_* SPOT contract:
* tests/lint/filesystem/env/test_default_env_keys_handled.py
  Every default.env key must be wired through a handler.
* tests/lint/filesystem/env/test_used_keys_declared.py
  Every INFINITO_* in .sh/.py must live in env/{default,ci}.env or
  a handler; per-line `# nocheck:` suppresses runtime-only refs.
* tests/lint/filesystem/python/test_no_infinito_get_defaults.py
  Forbid ANY default in `.get("INFINITO_*", ...)` -- including the
  empty-string fallback (which silently masks an unset key). The
  nocheck check walks every physical line the call spans so an
  autoformat-split call still honours the marker.

Cache namespace flattens to a single prefix:
  INFINITO_PACKAGE_CACHE_*  -> INFINITO_CACHE_PACKAGE_*
  INFINITO_REGISTRY_CACHE_* -> INFINITO_CACHE_REGISTRY_*
The five previously driver-injected paths (APT_LIST, NPMRC,
PIP_CONF, REGISTRY_PROXY_CONF, FRONTEND_CA_FILE) move into
env/default.env and passthrough.STATIC_KEYS; the
`cache_env_overrides()` helper and its two call sites are gone
along with the test-fixture override for FRONTEND_CA_DIR.

SPOT-strict rewrites:
  - 19 sites: `something.get("INFINITO_X", "")` -> subscript
    `something["INFINITO_X"]` (loud KeyError when env loader did
    not run; all keys live in env/default.env).
  - 2 handler-internal bootstrap reads suppressed with
    `# nocheck: handler-bootstrap-read`.
  - 30 runtime-only / driver-injected / test-fixture references
    annotated with `# nocheck: <reason>` per-line.
  - Unit tests that previously removed SPOT-guaranteed keys via
    `{k: v ... if k \!= KEY}` or `clear=True` switch to setting
    the key to "" explicitly, matching the new contract.

Side fixes:
  - INFINITO_DNS_DOMAIN + INFINITO_DNS_HOSTS_FILE move from
    shell-side defaults in common.sh to env/default.env and
    passthrough.STATIC_KEYS.
  - dns_systemd_is_operational() drops the dead
    INFINITO_DNS_FORCE_HOSTS_FALLBACK override branch (the
    variable was never set anywhere).
  - INFINITO_WORKER_FETCH switches from `os.environ.get(KEY, "1")`
    to `os.environ[KEY]`.
  - scripts/tests/code/wrapper.sh exec args move into a bash
    array so `# nocheck:` on INFINITO_TEST_TYPE can live on its
    own element line (SC2215 fix).

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 f0f11ca41f ci(workflows): run code tests on host + gate image build on them
The four test-code workflows (lint/unit/integration/external) now
run unittest discover directly on the GitHub-hosted runner via
INFINITO_TEST_RUNNER=host, bypassing the docker compose container.
A fresh Python 3.11 from actions/setup-python feeds make install,
which builds the venv on the runner — no `make up`, no docker
image pull, no `INFINITO_IMAGE_TAG` / `NIX_CONFIG` plumbing.

The orchestrator reverses the dependency direction: build-ci-images
now needs test-code-gate so a broken commit never produces images.
Tests start in parallel with fork-prereqs-ready instead of waiting
for the build chain.

Galaxy lint workflow stays dropped alongside the earlier
galaxy-importer removal.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 4.7 9a578952c3 feat(env): SPOT env-pipeline + INFINITO_* namespace
Replace 8 bash env modules with a single Python generator
(cli.meta.env) that materialises env/static.env + runtime context
into a gitignored .env. Each variable lives in its own handler
under utils/env/handlers/; defaults carry inline one-line `# ...`
comments.

Rename to the INFINITO_* schema:
- workflow inputs: APPS, SERVICES_DISABLED, CMD, DEBUG, WHITELIST,
  BUNDLES, FULL_CYCLE, VARIANT, RUN_FLAGS, LIMIT_HOST, PARALLEL
- inventory: INVENTORY_DIR / INVENTORY_FILE / HOST_VARS_FILE,
  PW_FILE -> INVENTORY_PASSWORD_FILE
- venv: VENV_BASE / VENV_FALLBACK / VENV_NAME
- new SPOT defaults: COMPILE_SILENCE, CONTAINER_NO_CA,
  WAIT_HEALTH_TIMEOUT_S, PACKAGE_CACHE_FRONTEND_INIT_IMAGE,
  promoted IMAGE_TAG from GHA-only to general passthrough

compose.yml hardening:
- inline \${VAR:-default} removed; strict \${VAR:?...} everywhere
- new integration lint blocks regressions

Tooling:
- scripts/install/all.sh owns the stamp-file install logic
  (Makefile target delegates)
- scripts/meta/env/load.sh is the single shell entry point;
  8 bash modules deleted
- new shell lint: no INFINITO_* defaults outside env/static.env

Tests:
- 93 new unit tests for utils/env/{builder,parser,runtime,writer}
- restructure tests/lint into repository/ (file-content rules) vs
  filesystem/{shell,python,env}/ (filesystem-shape rules)
- drift + smoke integration tests against the generator

Docs:
- variables.md is now a pointer; per-variable docs live next to
