The small GitHub runner shape (AWS, 72G root) ran out of disk in swarm and compose rows (#1329: WordPress#2 of run 41261531965, Nextcloud#6 and #7 of run 41262286962) while an empty instance-store disk nvme1n1 sat unused. mount_spare_disk.sh formats and mounts it at /mnt, but only on a GitHub-hosted runner outside act, and only a whole unpartitioned disk without any signature, mount or swap use of at least 75G; every decline leaves a notice. relocate_docker_dataroot.sh then bind-mounts /var/lib/containerd from the spare disk and moves the Docker data-root to /mnt/docker-host (not /mnt/docker, which is the nested daemon's volume that dedicated.sh wipes). It refuses before stopping anything when images, volumes, build cache, foreign containerd namespaces or shims exist or daemon.json is unreadable, and rolls back the bind mount and daemon.json on any later failure or cancel. Swap goes on / once containerd lives on /mnt, dump_state.sh logs disk size, model and free space per storage root, and the swarm watchdog samples / and /var/lib/containerd every 10 s.

Both deploy steps set `disable: ${{ matrix.disable || inputs.disable }}`.
A row carries tokens of its own whenever its network mode needs them (a
clearnet row disables Tor), so the caller's list never reached the
deploy. On feature/store-i18n (CI run 40979252521) the workspace swarm
zombie for svc-db-mariadb/postgres deployed 19 apps instead of 7 on its
clearnet row (fedora: 4h06 for one step, job cancelled at 345 min). main
carries the same expression; it bites as soon as a caller's disable list
meets a clearnet row.
The steps now pass format('{0} {1}', matrix.disable, inputs.disable);
every reader of `disable` splits on spaces and commas. Both input
descriptions follow. test_deploy_disable_merge.py reads the live
expressions; against the old fallback it fails two subtests.
Ported from feature/store-i18n 57e574ac2d (store-i18n's extra `network:`
step env stays there).

The Validation step "Assert the base branch is fully merged into the PR
head" ran main_merged.sh, which fetches the live tip of main when the job
starts. PR runs wait in the queue for hours while image-update PRs land
on main several times an hour, so nearly every queued run failed
Validation on start and had to be re-pushed after another main merge
(PR #1265: behind_by=0 at push, behind_by=9 while its run still queued).
main_merged.sh takes a new INFINITO_MAIN_COMMIT override: when set, it
fetches that full commit SHA from the remote and requires HEAD to
contain it instead of the live tip; a set but malformed or empty value
exits 2. The Validation step passes github.event.pull_request.base.sha,
the main tip at event time, which the step's pull_request-only guard
always provides. The run tests the merge against that base, so the gate
still guarantees the tested tree contains it.
The local pre-push hook (make test-main-merged) leaves the override
unset and keeps checking the live tip: a push happens right now, so
lagging the current main is the real defect there.

The contributor docs described repository settings that are not in
place. security.md marked "Require status checks", "Require branch to
be up to date" and "Require signed commits" as enforced, but the active
ruleset `Main` has no required_status_checks and no required_signatures
rule, and the separate `Signed` ruleset is disabled. repository.md
listed Dependabot alerts, security and version updates, secret scanning
and push protection as disabled although all of them are on, and its
summary repeated the two rules that are not enforced. branch.md claimed
branch protection enforces the branch naming rules, while only the PR
validation run checks the prefix. Three pages still described a hadolint
SARIF job in call-lint.yml that no longer exists, which hid that nothing
uploads the Hadolint results the ruleset asks for.
The pages now state what the ruleset and the repository settings
enforce today, name the policy pages for rules that are policy only,
and record that no workflow uploads Hadolint results.
Scorecard alerts 472, 504 and 505 depend on repository settings and
process and stay open; 507 and 539 are no longer reported on main.

ubuntu-26.04 runner images load per-binary AppArmor profiles (wg-quick,
dig, who, fusermount3, ~150 upstream). Path-based attachment applies to
every unconfined task, so the profiles also attach inside our privileged
`apparmor=unconfined` containers. The upstream wg-quick profile only allows
`/usr/bin/ip`; on CentOS and Fedora nodes `ip` lives at `/usr/sbin/ip`, so
`svc-net-wireguard : Bring 'data' up` failed with rc=126:
/usr/bin/wg-quick: line 32: /usr/sbin/ip: Permission denied
apparmor="DENIED" operation="exec" profile="wg-quick" name="/usr/sbin/ip"
(run 39268090162, Fediwall#0, CentOS swarm VPN).
Dev hosts never see this: `environment-bootstrap` runs
`security-apparmor-teardown`. The runners skipped that preparation. The
deploy, workspace and DNS workflows now run the same target on the runner
host before any container starts (skipped under act, whose job container
cannot reach the host's policy), so CI matches the dev-host state for all
profiles, not only the ones seen so far.
A dedicated permissive profile for the containers was rejected: every
AppArmor host without that profile loaded would refuse to start them,
including dev hosts and act.

The workflows pin `runs-on: ubuntu-NN.NN`, so no job moves to a new Ubuntu
release behind our back, but nothing raised the pin either. A sixth job of
`🔄 Update versions` closes that: `utils/update/runner.py` reads the image
table of actions/runner-images, takes the newest x64 Ubuntu label whose
image carries no preview or beta badge, and raises every older bare
`runs-on: ubuntu-NN.NN` to it; arch-suffixed labels stay untouched. The job
opens the change as one PR over `.github/workflows`, so its CI run tests
the new image before it reaches main.
This commit carries the updater's first result: every job now runs on
ubuntu-26.04 (49 `runs-on`).
actionlint 1.7.12, the newest release, does not know `ubuntu-26.04` yet
(rhysd/actionlint#682, fix proposed in rhysd/actionlint#743), so
`.github/actionlint.yaml` declares the label until a release knows it.
act maps each `ubuntu-NN.NN` label the workflows use to the local platform
image, derived from `.github/workflows`, instead of a fixed list that did
not know ubuntu-26.04.

`ubuntu-latest` moved from ubuntu-24.04 to ubuntu-26.04 on its own
schedule, in the middle of run 39166850273, and every job that landed on
the new image met a different OS: sudo-rs instead of sudo, no ip_tables
loaded, and now the NFS probe-write of svc-storage-nfs-client failing on
26.04 swarm nodes. The same branch went red without a code change.
Every `runs-on` now names `ubuntu-24.04`. GitHub still rebuilds that image
weekly, so patches and tool updates keep arriving; only the release jump
becomes a deliberate change of the label. The CodeQL job drops its dead
swift/macos-latest branch, since no swift language is in its matrix. act
already maps ubuntu-24.04 to the local platform image.
A lint rejects any job whose `runs-on` contains a `*-latest` label.

The 16.0.0 entry pkgmgr wrote on top of CHANGELOG.md uses "-" bullets
while every older entry uses "*". MD004's default "consistent" style takes
the marker of the first list in a file, so lint-markdown reported 400
MD004 findings in CHANGELOG.md and the pre-push gate refused the release
push.
MD004 is now pinned to "dash", the marker pkgmgr and the changelog skill
write, and make autoformat (markdownlint-cli2 --fix) converted the lists
of the 72 files that still used "*". Only list markers changed.

The workspace jobs pulled every image anonymously from Docker Hub and
two of them failed on its rate limit in run 39059128678 (#990): the
fedora swarm drill on busybox:1.38 on all three nodes, the centos
compose drill while building tor-smtp_custom. The regular deploy jobs
pull through the GHCR mirror, but the mirror was tied to being a real
GitHub runner: Profile.image_mirror_enabled() returned
runs_on_github(), and the swarm routine generated mirrors.yml only when
cli.meta.runtime reported github, which is act inside make
swarm-zombie.
The mirror is now its own capability, INFINITO_GHCR_MIRROR (next to
INFINITO_GHCR_MIRROR_PREFIX), written as a run fact like
INFINITO_CACHE_STACK: true on a real GitHub runner,
false everywhere else, and a non-empty exported value wins for the run.
Profile.image_mirror_enabled() reads the declaration and keeps
runs_on_github() as the fallback, and 02_provision_inventory.sh gates
on the same value instead of the runtime name. make swarm-zombie
forwards it into act through ACT_ENV, since act ignores the host env.
call-test-workspace.yml declares INFINITO_GHCR_MIRROR=true and passes
INFINITO_GHCR_MIRROR_PREFIX into the workspace container. Nothing else
of the workspace changes: is_ci, runs_on_github, the cache stack and
the docker root stay local-like. The step that loads the rescue paths
now removes the .env it generated on the runner, because on debian
rows load.sh sourced it inside the container and the run inherited
INFINITO_RUNNING_ON_GITHUB=true.

OpenSSF Scorecard reports no fuzzer integration (code scanning alert
507, issue #853). tests/fuzz/_yaml_bootstrap.py is an atheris harness
that feeds arbitrary input to utils.yaml_bootstrap.load_block and fails
whenever the reader accepts a document that load_yaml_str parses
differently or rejects. That is the contract the module's docstring
states, and the existing property test only samples it. The leading
underscore keeps unittest discovery from importing it, because atheris
is only installed with the fuzz extra.
cron-security-fuzz.yml runs the harness for 15 minutes every Sunday and
on demand, on ubuntu-latest, and uploads crashing inputs as the
fuzz-crashes artifact. atheris 3.1.0 ships x86_64 manylinux wheels for
CPython 3.12 to 3.14 only, so it lives in its own `fuzz` extra and
stays out of every other install path. tests/fuzz/ is not part of
`make test`.

With mode swarm and vpn enforced it deploys an example's declarations in CI.
The manual entry already exists on the default branch, so the input can be
dispatched before this lands; a new entry workflow could not.
Forwarded to the swarm drill as INFINITO_SWARM_MESHES; empty keeps the
development lab's.
The deploy job also installs iproute2, which the harness uses to find the
controller's stale mesh links. GitHub runners already ship it; the act image
a local run uses does not.
The GHCR mirror covered role images only. The images the runner pulls on
its own went straight to Docker Hub: coredns from compose.yml, the cache
stack in compose/cache.override.yml and alpine:latest, the init image of
scripts/docker/cache/package-frontend/certs.sh. With the anonymous
githubactions quota spent, the guide step of Postmarks#0 (main run
37954203718) and Shopware#2 (#872) died on "toomanyrequests" while pulling
alpine:latest, after coredns had hit the same limit.
iter_runner_images (utils/docker/image/discovery.py) finds those images,
and the mirror sync and the fork-PR wait now cover them next to the role
images. On a real GitHub runner compose_file_args layers a generated
build/compose/runner-mirror.override.yml that points only the services of
the layered compose files at their mirror, and the certificate generator
gets the mirrored init image. Local runs and act are unchanged, and the
coredns literal stays in compose.yml for Dependabot. test-dns now waits for
images-mirror-missing like the deploy and workspace jobs, since it brings up
the stack too.
Verified with docker compose config on a simulated GitHub runner: the
service set is unchanged and only the runner images point at
ghcr.io/infinito-nexus/core/mirror/docker.io/..., and an existing role mirror
under that scheme pulls anonymously.

The three-arm comparison on web-app-gitea#0 put the meshed arm at 414ms
per task over the direct arm, and the tunnel at 4% of that. What it could not
split is the rest: the arms differ both in connection plugin (docker against
ssh) and in escalation (root with no prompt against administrator with a
password sudo on every task).
A fixed set of module calls, timed either side of the transport switch with
become off and on, gives four numbers that separate the two. It costs about a
minute where a fourth deploy arm would have cost three hours, and it needs no
root login and no sudoers change.
INFINITO_SWARM_TRANSPORT_BENCH guards it, so a normal round times nothing.
The arm existed to answer one question: how much of the meshed arm's
cost is the connection plugin and how much is the tunnel. Runs 37592061960
(docker), 37753506661 (SSH on the underlay) and 37621556682 (SSH over
WireGuard) answered it on web-app-gitea#0, debian/ext4:
pass 1 5964s / 8511s / 8832s
pass 2 5319s / 7472s / 7705s
Leaving ansible_connection: docker costs +4700s, the tunnel +554s - 89.5%
against 10.5%. The answer is recorded; the scaffolding does not need to ship.

95cfc8b7b7 is already superseded by bbfd82f89, which sets the profiling limit
upstream.
One conflict, in the generated role overview table of README.md.
Both sides had edited the same block. Upstream dropped Redis from the pihole
row; this branch still listed it. Upstream also listed svc-net-wireguard-core,
-plain and -firewalled, which this branch removed in e706170a0b as superseded
by the unified svc-net-wireguard role.
Resolved by taking upstream's block and then running `make readme-index`, so
the table is generated from the roles that actually exist rather than
hand-merged: Redis is gone from pihole, the three legacy WireGuard roles stay
gone, and svc-net-wireguard is listed once. `make readme-index check=true`
reports the table up to date.
Git kept the role deletions silently and correctly - upstream has not touched
those three directories since the merge base, so there was no modify/delete
conflict to resolve.
The version-source updater only read meta/services.yml. An addon pinned in
meta/addons/<id>.yml stayed where it was: the ONLYOFFICE connector for
Nextcloud sat on v10.1.2, which does not install on Nextcloud 35, until
someone bumped it by hand.
The updater now reads addon files too. An addon declares its source in the
`update:` block it already has, beside monitored, catalog and upstream_id.
A monitored addon of the github-releases catalog needs nothing more: its
upstream_id names the repository whose tags are its versions. The
update-version-sources job opens the PRs, one per role.
Every pinned addon is wired:
- nextcloud onlyoffice carries its own version pin now. Its archive URL
stays a literal that carries the pin, because
test_pinned_addon_archives_available reads it as written
- wordpress mcp-adapter, moodle auth_oidc and jellyfin sso-authentication
follow the tags of their repository, moodle within its v4.5 series
- the three xwiki extensions read their Maven metadata
- pretix-oidc reads the PyPI simple index. The JSON API answers 404 behind
the package cache the test stack routes pypi.org through
- joomla's plugin is built here and jellyfin's ldap-authentication is bound
to the md5 of its archive; both are opted out with that reason
A bump rewrites the pin and the config.archive line together, and an
archive that does not carry the pin fails test_version_keys, so the two
cannot drift apart again. test_version_pins_are_watched covers addon pins
as well: a new one without a source or a reasoned opt-out fails the lint.

The Docker updater watches image plus version, the repository updater
repository plus ref. A dozen pins fell outside both - an app_version, a
release, a tag in a registry neither speaks - so nothing ever told anyone
they had gone stale.
Such a pin now names its upstream next to itself in an `update:` block:
git_tags, registry_tags, npm, http_regex or a role-local script, with
`match` selecting a tag flavour and `strip` removing a prefix the pin does
not carry. utils/update/source.py resolves them beside the two existing
updaters, `python -m cli.contributing.update.source` bumps them, the
update-version-sources job opens one PR per role, and
tests/external/update/source warns while a bump is pending.
Two lints hold the rule: every semver pin is watched by one of the three
updaters or opted out with a reason, and a semver only ever sits behind
`version`, `<what>_version` or `ref` - which renames moodle's release to
app_version and simpleicons' local_version to local_tag, the latter being
the tag of a locally built image rather than an upstream version. A
declaration naming a key the entity does not carry, or a type the resolver
does not know, fails the lint instead of resolving nothing in silence.
Picked from feature/store-i18n (94d607fd0a) onto current main. Two things
differ from the original: svc-ai-lmstudio no longer carries an app_version
pin, so its declaration is dropped, and web-app-stalwart's webui_version,
added since, declares the git tags of the webui repository.

No conflicts, and no file touched by both sides. Incoming is a run of
Docker image version bumps plus one CI change, which moves the diff
baseline from a force-pushed mirror of main to a fetch in each consumer --
entry-push-latest.yml and the resolve scripts, none of which this branch
touches.
Gates on the merged tree: unit 6199, lint 525, integration 330, external
19, ansible-lint clean, markdownlint clean, ruff clean.
The axis was only an input of the reusable trigger, so a dispatch run
dropped it and fell back to the default. On auto, index 0 of sweep 0 is the
half of the rotation that carries the mesh, which is why a throwaway cluster
asked for the wireguard service to be switched off and raised it anyway:
service 'wireguard' is disabled, but provider role 'svc-net-wireguard'
is still active
Declared beside the tor axis it mirrors, with the same shape and default, so
a run that passes vpn= now gets what it asked for on either trigger.
The sync job force-pushed the source repository's main onto this one so that
`origin/main` would mean "upstream main" for the three consumers that diff
against it. Carrying .github/workflows/** in that push is what GitHub refuses
for an App token, and `workflows` is not a GITHUB_TOKEN permission scope, so the
job needed an app installation that may write workflow files. Run 37169357364
showed the fork has no such secret at all.
Nothing reads the pushed branch. push_ci_policy.sh, affected_roles.sh and
new_roles.sh each fetch `origin main` into their own runner's clone before
reading it, and no caller queries the branch through the API. Pointing those
fetches at the configured source repository gives the same baseline read-only:
no push, no credential, no app permission to widen.
baseline_remote.sh resolves where that baseline comes from and keeps the
normalization and the disabled-value list in one place: `origin` for the source
repository itself, for a disabled sync and for a local clone without
GITHUB_REPOSITORY, and the upstream fetch URL otherwise. The fetches now carry
an explicit `main:refs/remotes/origin/main` refspec, which a URL needs and a
remote name tolerates.
The release guard keeps fetching `origin`: it asks whether a tag commit sits on
this repository's own main, which is a different question from the diff
baseline.
Removed: the sync-main job, its `needs` edge, main_from_repository.sh and the
directory that held it.
test_diff_affected_roles.py copies only the script under test into its fixture,
so it needed the new helper too. It also inherited the full environment, and a
GITHUB_REPOSITORY present in CI would have sent the fixture's baseline fetch to
the real upstream instead of its own bare remote: three of its five cases fail
that way, and the run takes 24s instead of 0.3s because it goes to the network.
The variable is now dropped alongside BASH_ENV.
Verified by running the helper in all four contexts and affected_roles.sh from
an empty refs/remotes/origin/main in a scratch clone as the fork, as the source
repository and locally; each populated the ref and completed.

One conflict, in the generated role table of README.md. Both sides changed
the same rows: upstream swapped WordPress's Mailu dependency for Stalwart,
while this branch replaced the three svc-net-wireguard-{core,plain,
firewalled} rows with the single svc-net-wireguard it deploys.
Resolved by regenerating rather than by hand, since make readme-index owns
that table and gates it with --check. The regenerated table carries both
sides and the check reports it up to date.
README.md was the only file both sides touched, and nothing in the tree
still names the three replaced roles.
entry-push-latest.yml lets a push to main cancel the running pipeline only when its head commit starts with the release subject pkgmgr writes. The new integration test reads that prefix from the workflow and the tag schema from scripts/github/resolve/release/tag.sh, then requires every release tag from v13.0.0 on to sit on "Release version X.Y.Z". Six tags between v10.1.0 and v11.6.0 carry "Release X.Y.Z", so the check starts at the first tag of the uniform run.
call-test.yml now checks out with full history and tags, the pair detect-release already relies on; a depth-1 checkout carries no tags and would skip the test. Forks and tagless clones skip it on purpose.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
A push to main whose head commit starts with "Release version " (the subject pkgmgr writes for every release) now cancels the main run in progress, so the release starts at once instead of queueing behind it. Every other push to main still leaves the running pipeline alone.
When the pushed main commit carries a vX.Y.Z tag, the orchestrator runs with chunk_gate false: every chunk deploys and reports, and a failed chunk still turns the run red, so release-guard and release-version stay skipped.
entry-cancel-superseded.yml mirrors the new rule behind its push guard, parenthesised so && does not bind the release clause; the mirror test composes the expected rule the same way.

One conflict, in the MCP exclusion list of requirement 035. Both sides
edited the same line: main added svc-net-tor-smtp, this branch replaced the
three svc-net-wireguard-{core,plain,firewalled} entries with the single
svc-net-wireguard it deploys. Resolved to the union of both — 24 entries —
which is what the merged tree actually holds.
Everything else merged clean and was checked for overlap rather than
assumed: no reference anywhere still names the three replaced roles;
matrix.py kept main's PRIMARY_APPS alongside the reordered round, and the
bootstrap pass does not need it, since only one template reads it and
group_vars defaults it empty; and main's ansible.cfg addition sits in
[defaults], so the ssh_args the mesh tool derives its own connection
settings from are untouched.
9850d5afa0 disabled the job-level deploy group because it blocked the
queue and kept jobs from being cancelled. Both causes are addressed:
- Cancelling: the chunks that call this workflow guarded with always(),
so a cancelled run kept its deploy jobs alive and they kept holding
their groups. Since a5f00ca777 the chunks guard with !cancelled() and
die with the run, which releases the group.
- Blocking: the key held only mode, tor, apps and variant, so rows that
differ in distro or filesystem waited on each other across branches.
The key now carries every axis the matrix generator emits, the same
set artifact_slug identifies a deployment by: mode, tor, distro,
filesystem, apps and variant. Two runs now only meet on an exactly
identical deployment. A sample matrix of eighteen rows had every axis
set and no duplicate key within the run.
queue: max keeps the second identical row queued instead of replacing
the waiting one; GitHub accepted the key in all 200 runs of August,
and scripts/lint/action.sh already ignores actionlint's unknown-key
report for it.
No resource shared per row was found in the deploy path: jobs push no
images, write nothing through the API and use no actions/cache, and
hosted runners are isolated. The serialization is the cross-branch
ordering ae9d7c2fd3 introduced, not the protection of a resource.
A TODO asks a CI deploy to confirm that a cancel drops queued jobs
from the group and that an identical row of a second run queues
behind it.
