3529 invalid comments in 528 files, grandfathered in while the linter only saw the working-tree diff. Removal ran through the linter's own collectors, so detection and deletion cannot drift: a comment whose opener line is blank before it and whose closer line is blank after it loses all its lines, anything else loses only the comment region, and a line left holding a bare delimiter goes with it. Five files keep their comments behind a nocheck marker instead. Four are upstream configs whose inline docs are upstream's own (mautrix, systemd journald, nextcloud-oidc-login, MediaWiki). In littlejs the commented-out entries ARE the deactivation mechanism for an example tile, so deleting them would delete configuration. """Lint guard: tests MUST route project-tree walks through
``utils.cache.files`` instead of calling ``Path.rglob(...)`` /
``os.walk(...)`` / ``glob.glob(...)`` directly.
Background
==========
Pytest runs every test in one process. A raw walk over the repo tree
re-iterates the same paths and re-stats the same inodes for every test
that needs them, which scales linearly with the number of lint /
integration tests doing project scans. Routing every walk through
:func:`utils.cache.files.iter_project_files` (or
:func:`iter_project_files_with_content`, :func:`read_text`) shares one
walk + one read per file across the whole pytest session.
See ``docs/agents/action/testing.md`` for the full rule.
Detection
=========
AST-walks every ``.py`` file under ``tests/`` and flags call
expressions matching the forbidden shapes:
* ``<x>.rglob(...)`` — Path/PurePath recursive glob
* ``os.walk(...)`` — top-down/bottom-up directory walker
* ``glob.glob(...)`` — pattern-based glob (recursive or not)
Aliased ``glob`` imports are tracked: ``import glob as G`` ⇒ ``G.glob(...)``
is flagged; ``from glob import glob`` ⇒ bare ``glob(...)`` is flagged.
Plain attribute access without a call is NOT flagged. String literals,
docstrings and comments naming these functions in prose are also not
flagged because the AST sees only real call nodes.
Per-line opt-out
================
Add ``# nocheck: project-walk`` (or ``# nocheck: project-walk``;
case-insensitive) on the call's own line OR, for multi-line calls, on
any line spanned by the call expression. Use this for legitimate
exceptions that genuinely need a raw walk and that have been audited —
e.g. tests that scan a tempdir created at runtime, or tests that probe
``.git`` history. Do NOT use it to silence the lint for "I want the
convenience of rglob" — refactor the test to use
``iter_project_files`` instead.
The marker grammar lives in
``docs/contributing/actions/testing/suppression.md``; this lint
consumes it via :func:`utils.annotations.suppress.suppressed_line_numbers`.
