Every script a role ships now lives under `files/<language>/`, and the unit
suite is split the same way: `tests/unit/python/` beside new sibling trees for
the other languages. `tests/lint/filesystem/test_role_files_layout.py` keeps it
that way; directories whose shape is dictated from outside carry a `.nocheck`
naming the constraint (Docker build contexts, WordPress mu-plugins, the Joomla
extension, Odoo addons, Playwright suites, the `files/test/test.sh` harness
that `test-e2e-cli` resolves generically).
This cannot be applied in halves. Moving a file and repointing what names it
are the same change: 14 references resolve only at deploy time, so the tree is
green either before or after, never between.
Those 14 were found by static resolution over every reference class, not by the
test suite -- a full `make quality-high` was green while all of them were
broken:
* 7 `src:` values built from a role variable holding a bare filename
(svc-bkp-remote-2-local, decidim, espocrm, friendica, joomla, pixelfed x2).
The variable doubles as the destination name inside the container, so the
language segment belongs at the call site, not in the variable.
* `sys-service/tasks/04_base.yml` resolved every consumer's systemd script
through `first_found(..., errors='strict')` over `files/script.{sh,py}`.
18 roles ship exactly that and have no template fallback: the play would
have died on each.
* `sys-front-inj-javascript` fell back to `<role>/files/javascript.js`; the
interface now reads `files/javascript/javascript.js`.
* `sys-front-inj-logout/templates/head_sub.j2` built the cache-busting mtime
path through `path_absolute(... 'files', ...)`.
* 4 `ansible.builtin.script:` invocations naming a bare command
(pull.py, prune.sh, set_postgres_superuser_password.sh, ganesha-serve.sh).
* `dev-python/files/shell/install.sh` pointed at a sibling role's script.
Depth-dependent paths inside the moved trees were bumped accordingly: 59
`parents[N]` computations, 12 relative climbs, and the per-role recover CLI,
whose path `cli/administration/recover/recoverers.py` still assembled from the
pre-move location.

System Utility: Git Pull (Shallow & Pinned)
Description
This Ansible role provides a robust, reusable Git pull utility for system automation.
It performs shallow clones or updates of Git repositories and optionally pins the working tree
to a specific tag (e.g. stable) in a detached HEAD state.
The role is designed to solve common automation pitfalls such as:
- conflicting local tags (
would clobber existing tag) - detached HEAD updates
- annotated vs. lightweight tags
- reliable change detection for Ansible
Internally, the role delegates complex Git logic to a small, well-tested Python helper script, keeping the Ansible YAML concise and readable.
Overview
This role:
- Ensures a repository exists at a given destination
- Clones the repository shallowly if it does not exist
- Updates an existing repository in a detached-safe manner
- Optionally removes conflicting local tags before fetching
- Optionally pins the checkout to a specific tag (e.g.
stable) - Marks the Ansible task as
changedif:- the repository was cloned
- tags were removed
- the pinned tag appeared for the first time
- the pinned tag moved on the remote (optional)
Cosmos
The diagram places System Utility: Git Pull (Shallow & Pinned) in the Infinito.Nexus cosmos: the components it deploys (capabilities), the central services it consumes (dependencies), and its outward reach (federation and bridged external networks).

Solid 1:1 edges are fixed relationships; dashed 0..1 edges are conditional (enabled only in matching deployments); red 0..0 edges are turned off in this role. Node markers show the role's deploy modes (💻 host, 🐳 compose, 🐝 swarm); ❌ marks a service that is explicitly turned off, and ⚙️ an Ansible role dependency declared in meta/main.yml.
Purpose
The purpose of this role is to provide a generic, reusable Git pull primitive for other roles in the Infinito.Nexus ecosystem.
Typical use cases include:
- installing tools pinned to a
stabletag - reproducible system deployments
- CI/CD-friendly shallow clones
- avoiding fragile inline Git shell logic in roles
Features
- Shallow Clone & Update (
--depth) - Detached-safe Branch Updates
- Optional Tag Pinning (e.g.
stable) - Annotated Tag Support (
tag^{}) - Local Tag Conflict Healing
- Deterministic
changed_whenSemantics - Verbose Debug Logging (stderr-only)
Design Notes
- All human-readable logs go to stderr
- Machine-readable state (
CHANGED=…) is written to stdout - This guarantees reliable
changed_whenbehavior in Ansible - The Python helper is intentionally self-contained and unit-testable
