test_no_uncached_file_reads flagged SCRIPT.read_text() in the extraction test. The suite shares one decoded read per file through utils.cache.files, and a bare pathlib read opts out of that.

The full gate surfaced it; the targeted run that accompanied a8469e064 executed the test in isolation and could not.
