Matrix-deploy variant transitions wipe a consumer's compose stack and
its named DB volume (`compose down -v` in
scripts/container/purge/entity/compose.sh) but `databases.csv` at
$FILE_DATABASE_SECRETS survives the purge. When the next round drops
the consumer from its inventory, the stale baudolo-seed row remains
behind. The subsequent backup run reads that row, attempts
`mariadb-dump -u<entity> -p<old_pw>` against the freshly initialised
RDBMS user that no longer exists, and the systemd unit fails with
"Access denied for user 'matomo'@'127.0.0.1' (using password: YES)"
(job 77797356000 on run 26428080957: matomo dump in
svc-bkp-container-2-local variant 1, where round 1 seeded matomo but
round 2 only deploys postgres + mariadb + svc-bkp itself).
Add `utils.cleanup.databases_csv` mirroring the existing
`utils.cleanup.tokens` pattern: parse the baudolo-seed CSV format
(';'-separated, four columns instance/database/username/password, with
header — verified against baudolo.seed.__main__:check_and_add_entry)
and strip every row whose `database` or `username` column matches an
entity derived from the supplied app ids via
utils.roles.entity_name.get_entity_name. Header and blank lines are
preserved verbatim; the file is rewritten only when at least one row
was removed.
Wire the helper into scripts/container/purge/apps.sh right after the
token-store wipe so every matrix-deploy inter-round purge invokes it
alongside the other cleanups. Operator-triggered purges
(`INFINITO_APPS=<app> bash scripts/container/purge/apps.sh`) also get
the cleanup — that is a behaviour change relative to before, where
the row would survive an operator-triggered entity teardown.
Coverage: 12 unit tests in tests/unit/utils/cleanup/test_databases_csv.py
covering the happy path, the multi-app case, the
`database='*'`/username-match case, the unknown-app no-op, header and
blank-line preservation, the all-rows-removed case, malformed short
rows, and the legacy-header-less file. `make test` green across all 5
targets.

default.env decomposed into INFINITO_PARENT_IMAGE_{OWNER,TAG,VARIANT}
atoms. New utils/env/handlers/infinito_parent_image.py owns the URL
composition `ghcr.io/{owner}/pkgmgr-{distro}:{tag}` as the single
definition site; scripts/image/{push,build}.sh consume the handler-
emitted INFINITO_PARENT_IMAGE from .env instead of inlining their own
format string.
Side effect: `compose up --build` now picks the parent image that
matches INFINITO_DISTRO. Previously default.env's hardcoded
pkgmgr-arch:stable won regardless, so debian-named containers were
silently built FROM the arch base. scripts/image/build.sh already
overrode per-distro, so its behavior is unchanged.
Other cleanups landed in the same pass:
- Slim variant removed end-to-end (Dockerfile stage, --variant CLI
flag, slim suffix logic). Zero in-repo callers used it.
- compose.yml build-args INFINITO_PARENT_IMAGE / INFINITO_SRC_DIR now
carry the same `:?Run 'make dotenv'…` guard as the runtime entries,
so a missing .env fails fast with a clear message instead of with
buildkit's `base name should not be blank`.
Note: fork-CI (pull_request_target trusted-helpers path) will stay red
until main's scripts/image/push.sh and scripts/meta/wait/images.sh
adopt the INFINITO_* names too — that is the deliberate cost of
keeping a single SPOT instead of carrying a bridge alias.

build/ is bind-mounted; under docker userns-remap the container root
maps to host uid 65534 (nobody), so files written from inside the
container are nobody-owned on the host. Whichever side created build/
first locked the other out: a stale nobody-owned build/ blocked the
host touch of build/install.stamp, and a host-owned 0755 build/
blocked the container from writing build/install-lint-<hash>.stamp.
Stamp writers now chmod the build dir to 0777 after creating it. The
first creator wins (only owner can chmod); both writers then place
their own stamps without colliding on directory ownership.

Inner `'==> %s\n'` collided with Make's `cmd='$(cmd)'` recipe wrap, mis-tokenizing the line and exiting 2 in every test-development variant.

Adds a Makefile target plus helper script that removes container-owned
generated artefacts (build/install.stamp, tasks/groups/*-roles.yml)
which the host user cannot rm directly. The helper auto-starts a
stopped infinito compose container before deletion.

INFINITO_CMD is a per-invocation argument, not a config value — drop it
from default.env, the passthrough STATIC_KEYS, and the dotenv-generator
test, and rename to lowercase `cmd` in Makefile targets, exec scripts,
internal callers, and user-facing docs.

Renames the three in-container deploy helpers out of `utils/` (where
they lived next to unrelated bash libs) into a `container/` subtree
that mirrors the host-side `apps/` layout one-to-one:
utils/fresh-kept-all-init-and-deploy.sh -> container/initialize/all.sh
utils/reuse-kept-all-deploy.sh -> container/update/all.sh
utils/reuse-kept-app-deploy.sh -> container/update/selection.sh
The `fresh-/reuse-/kept-` prefixes were overloaded ("kept" was
universal, "fresh/reuse" duplicated the verb already encoded in
initialize/update). New names use the same verbs + scope as the host
wrappers, so the host/container halves of each flow share a name.
Updates the three host wrappers under apps/{initialize,update}/ to
point at the new in-container paths and modernizes their
cache-retry keys (`fresh-kept-all` -> `initialize-all`, `reuse-all` ->
`update-all`, `reuse-<app>` -> `update-<app>`).
Adds READMEs for container/, container/initialize/, container/update/
following the project documentation conventions (H1 + trailing emoji,
RFC 2119 keywords, env-var tables, cross-links to the matching host
wrappers) and extends deploy/README.md with a pointer to the new
subtree.

Reworks the REPL into a stateful shell that tracks a category path: typing a bare category name cd's into it, `/` returns to root, `..` walks one level up (chained as `../..` etc.), path tokens with slashes or a leading `..` navigate, `infinito [path]` always jumps absolute, and `ls` renders the current folder with a 🗂️/⚙️ emoji column, name, and a 30-char-truncated description (folders sorted before commands). Executable leaves (sub-packages with `__main__.py`) run instead of cd-ing into them. The prompt prints `🖥️ infinito <space-separated path>> `; the screen clears (incl. scrollback via `\033[3J`) before each command run, and the run echoes the resolved invocation in the fresh frame so the user sees what is about to execute.
Splits `repl.py` (~250 lines) into focused modules: `constants.py` (sentinels), `navigation.py` (path/category resolve + prompt + normalize), `ls.py` (folder rendering + truncate), `runner.py` (subprocess dispatch + clear_screen), `banner.py` (startup banner). `repl.py` is now a thin `main()` loop with backward-compat re-exports so external consumers keep the `repl.<symbol>` surface. Mirrors the split on the test side into `test_navigation.py`, `test_runner.py`, `test_ls.py`, and a `test_repl.py` that owns only main-loop integration with a shared `_MainLoopHarness` mixin.
Adds `scripts/tests/environment/11_console.sh` as a CI smoke that feeds a navigation sequence through the REPL and asserts every prompt shape plus the `ls` emoji output, so a regression in the prompt format, the path resolver, or the folder rendering is caught by the environment-test orchestrator.

Each role's Playwright spec is staged the same way `test-e2e-playwright` does at deploy time (central config + personas tree + service-gating) and `npx playwright test --list` runs against it. `--list` skips the browser launch and any test body, so this catches refactor regressions like missing helpers, broken exports, or syntax errors in seconds instead of waiting for a full deploy. Stub env values keyed off the variable-name suffix satisfy the few specs that build URLs or call `.replace()` at module-load time.
Parallelism caps at `INFINITO_WORKER_CPU` (same env knob as `scripts/make/parallel.sh`); output is replayed in `SPEC_FILES` order after all workers drain so stdout stays deterministic. `@playwright/test` ships as a devDep via the existing eslint `npm ci`. Workflow wires into `ci-orchestrator.yml` behind the `lint-gate`.

The CI `📊 Top role runtimes` step parses `$ANSIBLE_LOG_PATH` on the
runner, but ansible-playbook actually runs inside the dev container via
`docker compose exec` — and the env var was never forwarded there, so
the log file never materialised. Even when set, the log would have
lived inside the container, invisible to the runner-side parser.
Forwards `ANSIBLE_LOG_PATH` through `compose.exec`'s `extra_env` so
ansible-playbook writes the log at the configured path inside the
container, then `docker cp`s it back to the runner from the cleanup
trap before the stack is torn down.

Splits mixed-content target descriptions into a single description line
plus `Note:` follow-ups, and dresses the targets that carry real
parameters (`compose-deploy`, `compose-exec`, `compose-inner-run`) with
explicit `Usage:` / `Example:` / `Param <name>:` lines. Adds a
`variant=<idx>` Make var alias to `compose-deploy` so multi-variant
pinning works without dropping to `INFINITO_VARIANT=` env prefixes.
Removes redundant inline `compose-deploy` / `compose-inner-run` param
enumerations from the docs and replaces them with
`make help target=<name>` pointers, so the help banner stays the SPOT.
Also fixes SC2016 in `scripts/make/help.sh` (literal backticks in the
help banner) with a scoped suppression.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Adds `make compose-playwright role=<role> [pw="..."] [keep=true]` as the
canonical inner-loop entry point for rerunning a role-local Playwright
spec against the live stack — replaces the raw
`scripts/tests/e2e/rerun-spec.sh` invocation across docs.
Defines a small comment-block schema for Makefile targets (description
line on top, followed by `Usage:` / `Example:` / `Note:` / `Param <name>:`
markers). Lint enforces it; `make help` shows the description per target
in the short list and `make help target=<name>` prints the full block.

Path-style invocation in scripts/system/network/dns/common.sh failed
with `ImportError: attempted relative import with no known parent
package` because cli/meta/domains/__main__.py uses
`from . import PROJECT_ROOT`. The DNS host generator silently fell
back to a static 3-host list on every bootstrap run (visible in the
test-development CI logs).
Switch the caller to `PYTHONPATH=<repo> python3 -m cli.meta.domains`
so the package context resolves. Keeps the PROJECT_ROOT SPOT
(tests/lint/filesystem/python/test_project_root_import.py) intact —
no local redefinition.
Also: one-line YAML rewrap in compose/cache.override.yml (formatter).
`entry.sh true` skips `run_local_build` because `true` is treated as
the exec target rather than a flag, so the in-container reinstall step
never ran. `--compile -- true` triggers the build first and then runs
`true` as a no-op exec target.
Catches refactor drift across `.sh`, `Makefile` recursive calls, and
GitHub workflows. Includes fixes for the 5 bugs the new test surfaced
on first run: `make -C ROOT down`/`up` in the network stack refresh
helper (missed during the compose-* rename) and four
`make compose-deploymode=…` / `compose-deployapps=…` typos in
07/08/09_deploy_*.sh plus three docstring/echo references
(missing space after `compose-deploy`, introduced by the
deploy → compose-deploy sed-rename).
Move the deploy router into the compose- domain prefix to match the
rest of the local stack lifecycle (compose-up/down/exec/...). Reorder
its block alphabetically between compose-down and compose-entity-purge
to keep `make help` and the alphabetical-targets lint happy.
Update every active call site: contributor docs, agent-iteration docs,
role-level Administration/README/TODO files, the bundles README, the
test-environment scripts, the in-repo deploy helpers and main.sh, and
the server stage task. The two wildcard prose references (`make
deploy-*` in CLAUDE.md and testing/playwright.md) become single
`make compose-deploy` mentions since no other deploy-* target exists.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Replace the seven separate deploy-* make targets with a single `make
deploy` recipe that maps short Make variables to the canonical
INFINITO_* environment variables and dispatches via the new
scripts/tests/deploy/local/deploy/main.sh router. main.sh and all
sub-scripts continue to read the long-form names, so Ansible passthrough
and container forwarding stay unchanged.
Short Make CLI now exposes apps, mode, purge, type, bundles, disabled,
and full_cycle as aliases. The router picks the verb folder
(initialize, reinstall, update) and scope (all, selection) based on the
chosen mode plus the presence of INFINITO_APPS or INFINITO_BUNDLES.
Also folds in the global INFINITO_TEST_DEPLOY_TYPE -> INFINITO_DEPLOY_TYPE
rename across default.env, passthrough handler, dotenv test, CI deploy
workflows, discovery scripts, and the server stage task.
Active contributor and agent-iteration docs, role-level Administration
and README files, the bundles README, and the deploy reset helper are
all retargeted to the new short CLI. docs/requirements/ entries stay
untouched as historical audit logs.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Split the local deploy scripts into a verb-based hierarchy under
scripts/tests/deploy/local/deploy/apps/{initialize,reinstall,update}/
plus scripts/tests/deploy/local/deploy/bundles/, with each verb folder
exposing all.sh (full discovery) and selection.sh (one or more apps via
INFINITO_APPS). The Makefile targets retain their existing names and now
dispatch to the new paths. The reinstall and bundles flows take over the
down + up cycle that used to be a Make prerequisite, and bundles/fresh.sh
now correctly delegates to apps/reinstall/selection.sh (the previous
delegate path was broken after the move). Each new directory carries a
README.md documenting scope, entry points, and when to use which verb.

\`utils/env/writer.py\` rejects multi-line values because bash \`source\`
and docker-compose \`--env-file\` cannot round-trip them
(introduced by a3782bf8d). \`scripts/tests/code/run.sh\` simultaneously
appended \`accept-flake-config = true\` to NIX_CONFIG before invoking
\`make setup\`, producing exactly the multi-line shape the writer
refuses. The test-environment workflow tripped this on every run
where \`06_test.sh\` → \`make test\` → \`scripts/tests/code/run.sh\`
fired (see actions/runs/26227822536/job/77180908867).
Fix the producer side, not the writer's layering:
* utils/env/handlers/nix_config.py: pull only the \`access-tokens\`
line out of NIX_CONFIG and write that single line. Other Nix
settings (\`accept-flake-config\`, \`experimental-features\`, …)
already live in /etc/nix/nix.conf via the Dockerfile inside the
dev container; host operators set them once in
~/.config/nix/nix.conf.
* scripts/tests/code/run.sh: drop the NIX_CONFIG mutation block.
It was a no-op for in-container test runs (the container's
/etc/nix/nix.conf already has accept-flake-config) and an active
bug for the env-pipeline (multi-line value crashed make dotenv).
The writer keeps its multi-line guard unchanged — the contract is
that .env carries single-line values, and producers must respect it.

Wrap `python -m cli` in a host-side REPL launched via `make console`. The
loop normalizes input (strips leading `infinito`/`cli`, treats bare `help`
as `--help`), ignores Ctrl+C so accidental input cancels don't kill the
session, and exits only on `exit`/`quit`/`:q` or Ctrl+D. Includes a banner
with help/web/docs/license/author hints. Drops the now-redundant
`infinito --help` footer from `make help`. Adds 22 unit tests covering
normalization, subprocess dispatch, and main-loop control flow.

Root cause of the DinD DNS-check failure on test-deploy-server
(networks.internet.ip4 falling through to 127.0.0.1 despite
INFINITO_IP4=172.30.0.10 reaching every link of the env pipeline):
cli/administration/inventory/provision/cli.py declared --ip4 with a
hardcoded default of "127.0.0.1" and ensure_host_vars_file wrote that
value unconditionally into host_vars/<host>.yml. group_vars'
defaults_networks.internet.ip4 resolves "172.30.0.10" via
\`lookup('env', 'INFINITO_IP4')\`, but tasks/stages/01_constructor.yml
merges \`defaults_networks | combine(networks | default({}, true))\` so
host_vars wins. INFINITO_IP4 looked broken end-to-end; the breakage
actually lived in the provision-CLI host_vars overlay.
INFINITO_DNS_IP and INFINITO_DOMAIN propagated correctly because
the provision CLI had no --dns and the --primary-domain write was
None-gated and never invoked.
While here, --ssl-disabled and --primary-domain are removed too:
neither had any effect in the dev flow. provision/cli.py applies
\`--vars-file inventories/development/default.yml\` AFTER
ensure_host_vars_file via apply_vars_overrides_from_file, whose
_deep_update_commented_map unconditionally overwrites
(\`target[key] = value\`). The dev vars-file always set
\`TLS_ENABLED: true\`, so \`--ssl-disabled\` (which forced
\`TLS_ENABLED: false\` in host_vars) was systematically reverted to
true. Dev/CI ran with TLS enabled the whole time. Inventory stays at
\`TLS_ENABLED: true\` to preserve that effective behaviour.
Removed from cli/administration/inventory/provision/cli.py:
- --ip4, --ip6: defaulted to 127.0.0.1 / ::1, shadowed group_vars
- --primary-domain: never set by any caller, None-gated write
- --ssl-disabled: always re-overwritten by --vars-file later in the
same provision pass
Removed from cli/administration/inventory/provision/host_vars.py the
matching writes in ensure_host_vars_file; the function now only sets
\`ansible_connection: local\` for localhost-class hosts. Defaults for
DOMAIN_PRIMARY / TLS_ENABLED / networks.internet.{ip4,ip6} live in
group_vars (env-driven) and the inventory vars-file (deployment-wide
flags); host_vars stops duplicating them.
Callers cleaned up:
- cli/administration/deploy/development/inventory/builder.py
- cli/administration/deploy/container/command.py
- scripts/tests/deploy/local/utils/fresh-kept-all-init-and-deploy.sh
- scripts/tests/deploy/local/reset/inventory.sh
Tests + docs follow:
- tests/unit/cli/administration/inventory/provision/test_host_vars.py
now asserts host_vars no longer carries baked DOMAIN_PRIMARY /
TLS_ENABLED / networks defaults
- docs/administration/deploy.md drops --ssl-disabled from the
provision example
- docs/contributing/design/inventory.md re-scopes the host_vars
column: the DOMAIN_PRIMARY / TLS_ENABLED / networks.internet.{ip4,ip6}
values arrive via --vars / --vars-file overlays, otherwise group_vars
provides the env-driven default

compose.yml no longer hides services behind \`profiles: ["ci"]\`. The
profile existed solely as a no-op safety net against a bare
\`docker compose up\` in the repo root, but the top-level compose.yml is
already explicitly scoped to local dev / CI testing (production goes
through the Ansible roles under roles/<role>/templates/), so the safety
net is redundant with the documented scope.
Every \`--profile ci\` callsite collapses:
- compose.yml: \`profiles: ["ci"]\` removed from coredns + infinito
- Profile.args() deleted; Profile keeps is_ci() and
registry_cache_active() for the cache-override gating
- compose.py / down.py: profile.args() splat removed from the
docker-compose command builder; down.py drops its now-unused
Profile import
- 5 shell wrappers (install, lint, tests/code, meta/resolve/apps,
meta/resolve/diff/affected_roles): plain \`docker compose\` instead
of \`docker compose --profile ci\`
- tests/unit/.../test_profile.py: TestProfileArgs class removed
- tests/unit/.../test_compose.py: two cmd-shape asserts updated to
reflect the missing --profile pair
Docs:
- docs/contributing/artefact/files/compose.yml.md: the
\"every service MUST be behind a profiles: entry\" rule is gone
- docs/contributing/actions/debugging/ci.md: the
\`docker compose ... --profile ci config\` debug snippet drops the
flag; while touching the file the two em-dash clause separators in
the reproduction-profiles shell block are rewritten to colons
(documentation.md em-dash rule), and one list-item in
compose.yml.md is collapsed to one sentence per line for
consistency with its siblings

With env.development and env/ci.env both gone, env/default.env was the
last inhabitant of the directory. Hoisting it to the repo root removes
the empty-shell indirection: the SPOT is now [default.env](default.env),
sitting next to .env (its generated companion) and other repo-root
configuration artefacts like compose.yml, Dockerfile, and Makefile.
Path updates land in:
- generator: cli/meta/env/__main__.py (REPO_ROOT / "default.env")
- workflow: .github/workflows/test-install-make.yml (awk reads from
default.env, error message updated in lockstep)
- lint tests: test_used_keys_declared.py and test_infinito_prefix.py
switched from globbing env/*.env to targeting default.env directly;
test_default_env_keys_handled.py points at the new path
- drift test: test_inventory_vars_file_spot.py whitelist + STATIC_ENV
- smoke test: tests/integration/meta/env/test_dotenv_generator.py
STATIC_ENV + every docstring/error message
Doc-string and prose references in utils/env/*, scripts/*,
cli/administration/deploy/development/{common,coredns}.py,
Makefile, Dockerfile, and every doc page that mentioned env/default.env
are rewritten in the same pass so future readers see one path.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
The env.development marker file existed for two purposes that no longer
justify the wiring cost: a per-machine compose --env-file override layer
appended after auto-loaded .env, and a fallback signal for
detect_runtime() to return "dev" when the marker exists. With every
INFINITO_* default now collapsed into env/default.env -> .env,
persistent per-machine overrides are best expressed as
\`export INFINITO_FOO=…\` before invoking make (load.sh honors
caller-set values via setdefault). The marker fallback in
detect_runtime was redundant with the explicit RUNTIME=dev that every
dev-flow callsite already passes (fresh-*.sh, reset/inventory.sh).
Removed:
- Makefile mark-development target + .PHONY entry
- env.development from .gitignore / .dockerignore
- env_local conditional in compose.up()
- env_development conditional in down._compose_run()
- env.development conditional in scripts/meta/resolve/apps.sh and
scripts/meta/resolve/diff/affected_roles.sh
- env.development marker branch + the now-unused project_root parameter
from cli/meta/runtime/detect_runtime; __main__.py caller follows
- "Optional Development Marker" section in docs/contributing/environment/
setup.md and the marker reference in docs/administration/installation.md
Also drops two RUNTIME=='dev' guards in roles/web-app-bigbluebutton that
relied on the auto-detect path:
- the compose build etherpad task in tasks/02_compose.yml
- the freeswitch iptables-REJECT entrypoint override in
templates/compose.override.yml.j2
With auto-detection of "dev" gone the guards would otherwise only fire
on explicit RUNTIME=dev runs, silently regressing the local-dev path
operators rely on; both behaviors now apply unconditionally.

The four ci.env keys (INFINITO_DNS_IP, INFINITO_DOMAIN, INFINITO_DOMAIN_RE,
INFINITO_IP4) were only honored by docker compose --env-file, so processes
that sourced .env via load.sh saw INFINITO_IP4 as unset. As a result
networks.internet.ip4 in the Ansible playbook fell through to the
127.0.0.1 default and the DinD DNS-check handler failed on the deploy
server matrix.
Moving the defaults into env/default.env makes them flow through the same
.env / load.sh / os.environ chain as every other INFINITO_* key, so
\${INFINITO_IP4} in compose.yml, lookup('env', 'INFINITO_IP4') in
group_vars, and envsubst over the CoreDNS Corefile template all see the
same value deterministically.
Side fix: utils/env/parser.py now undoes the writer's \\\\/\\" escaping for
quoted values, closing a round-trip gap that surfaced once
INFINITO_DOMAIN_RE (the only value containing a literal backslash) started
flowing through the generator.
All --env-file env/ci.env call sites (compose.py, down.py, install/lint/
test wrappers, resolve scripts, test-dns workflow + script) are removed.
coredns.py now reads .env via parse_static_env, docs and unit/integration
tests follow.

`make test-unit` (docker runner) reached run.sh inside the container via
`bash --login`, which never sources the project's env-loader. PYTHON stayed
unset, so the test invocation fell back to the system python3 — which has
none of the runtime deps (ruamel, ansible, bcrypt, requests, certifi,
humanfriendly), producing 132+ ModuleNotFoundError errors.
run.sh now sources scripts/meta/env/load.sh itself (idempotent via
INFINITO_ENV_LOADED), so the env layer applies regardless of how the shell
was spawned.
While load.sh's detect.sh (now scripts/meta/env/python.sh) correctly walks
/opt/venvs and ~/.venvs to find the venv, an ambient VIRTUAL_ENV from a
different project (e.g. /root/.venvs/pkgmgr in pkgmgr's container) would
hijack the resolution. python.sh now scans the project-named venv candidates
first and only falls back to VIRTUAL_ENV when no project venv exists.
Also moves scripts/meta/python/detect.sh to scripts/meta/env/python.sh so the
env-related helpers live under one directory; updates the load.sh source
pragma and the lint-test path that scans it for INFINITO_* registrations.
`make test-unit` goes from 1262 tests / 132 errors to 1999 tests / 0 errors.

Three inline `run:` blocks moved into `scripts/github/runner/`:
* `images_build_outputs.sh "$distros" "$image_tag"` — replaces the
matrix/image_tag computation in the "Compute matrix JSON" step; emits
both outputs to $GITHUB_OUTPUT in one call.
* `distros_matrix.sh "$distros"` — the matrix-JSON primitive
(`split(" ") | map(select(length>0))`), reused by test-dns.yml's
matrix step. Removes the jq duplicate that lived in both workflows.
* The two pre/post-build `Disk pressure` steps now invoke the already-
existing `disk_pressure_report.sh PRE-BUILD` / `POST-BUILD` instead of
duplicating the df/docker-system-df/buildx-du block inline.
Behaviour unchanged; the workflow runs the same commands via the SPOT
helpers.

Commit 5e0036dfa added a strict-read `${INFINITO_SRC_DIR:?...}` to the
docker buildx build-arg in push.sh. The CI workflow images-build-ci
invokes push.sh directly without sourcing scripts/meta/env/load.sh, so
the variable was never populated and the run aborted on attempt 1/7
(run 26200267778, job 77088881319). Sourcing load.sh inline keeps push.sh
self-sufficient regardless of caller and matches the existing pattern in
the lint/install/test wrappers under scripts/.

Two independent bugs were compounding into a corrupted NIX_CONFIG that
broke every local image rebuild:
1. scripts/tests/code/run.sh non-idempotently appended
"accept-flake-config = true" to whatever NIX_CONFIG it inherited.
On the next source of .env (which carried the previous value back),
the line accumulated -- "true\naccept-flake-config = true\n..." --
until Nix rejected the Boolean. Fix: pipe through `awk '\!seen[$0]++'`
to dedup lines while preserving order.
2. utils/env/writer.py silently re-encoded literal newlines as `\n`
escape sequences inside double-quoted values. docker-compose's
--env-file loader does not decode them and neither does bash
`source`, so any multi-line value round-tripped into garbage on the
next read. Fix: raise ValueError instead -- producers must collapse
to a single line before handing off to the env-builder.
Test fixtures for the writer adjusted to assert the new raise
semantics.

Commit a77a57040 dropped the inline default from the Dockerfile's
INFINITO_SRC_DIR ARG so env/default.env stays the only SPOT. The
compose-driven build path already forwards the value via
compose.yml's build.args, but the standalone scripts/image/{build,push}.sh
paths (local `make build`, CI `🏗️ Build (<distro>)`) had not been
updated. Without --build-arg INFINITO_SRC_DIR=..., the ARG resolves
to empty inside the image, so `RUN /bin/bash ${INFINITO_SRC_DIR}/roles/...`
becomes `/bin/bash /roles/...` and exits 127.
Both scripts now assert INFINITO_SRC_DIR (sourced from
scripts/meta/env/load.sh) and pass it through.

Closes a stack of env-pipeline regressions left over from the recent
INFINITO_* namespace refactor by:
* DOMAIN_PRIMARY now reads INFINITO_DOMAIN strictly (was: legacy DOMAIN
env var → defaulted to infinito.localhost, which never resolved
because CoreDNS serves the INFINITO_DOMAIN value, infinito.example).
* group_vars/all/08_networks.yml IPs (ip4/ip6/dns) now read
INFINITO_IP4 / INFINITO_IP6 / INFINITO_DNS_IP.
* PLAYWRIGHT_KEEP_ALL renamed to INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_KEEP end-to-end
(env-builder, role default, run_one.yml docker exec, playwright.config.js,
lint allowlist, docs anchor, CI workflow vars).
* PKGMGR_IMAGE renamed to INFINITO_PARENT_IMAGE; Dockerfile ARG drops
the inline default so env/default.env is the only SPOT.
* INFINITO_SRC_DIR centralized: Dockerfile ARG (no default) + ENV;
compose forwards it as build-arg, volume mount path, and container env;
every Python CLI + shell helper + CI workflow now reads it strictly
(os.environ[...] / "${INFINITO_SRC_DIR:?...}") instead of the literal
/opt/src/infinito.
* New entries in env/default.env: INFINITO_IP6=::1, INFINITO_PARENT_IMAGE,
INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_KEEP=false. All three propagated through
utils/env/handlers/passthrough.STATIC_KEYS and (where consumed in the
container) through compose.yml's environment block.
Validated end-to-end with `make test` (2360 tests across lint, lint-*,
test-lint, test-external, test-unit, test-integration).

Adds scripts/make/help.sh which parses the Makefile, joins comment
lines preceding each target as its description, and tails the listing
with a pointer to `infinito --help` (or `python -m cli --help` when
the console script is absent) plus a link to https://docs.infinito.nexus.
The CLI's global help now references `make help` and the docs site.

Four system scripts (wsl2-systemd-enable, wsl-dns-setup, tls-trust
linux/wsl2) sourced scripts/meta/env/{runtime,defaults}.sh — both
collapsed into load.sh by the SPOT refactor (80c396b8). Route them
through load.sh so INFINITO_IS_WSL2/INFINITO_CONTAINER resolve via
the generated .env.
Also rename the CoreDNS template placeholders to the INFINITO_*
namespace: \${IP4}/\${DOMAIN_RE} -> \${INFINITO_IP4}/\${INFINITO_DOMAIN_RE}.
env/ci.env carries the prefixed names since the env-prefix lint
(22cf6f38f), so envsubst was rendering empty answers — NXDOMAIN on
every CoreDNS query, breaking test-dns.

Virgin pkgmgr containers ship without /opt/venvs, so the prior
'-d /opt/venvs && -w /opt/venvs' check fell through to ${HOME}/.venvs,
breaking the test-install-{make,pkgmgr} workflows that hardcode
'source /opt/venvs/infinito/bin/activate'. Probe the parent instead —
venv.sh mkdir -p's the leaf later.

00_orchestrator.sh sources common.sh in a vanilla container before
01_install.sh has run; the eager load_repo_env then sources load.sh ->
detect.sh which hard-fails per the new SPOT contract. Skip the load
silently when python3 is absent — the post-install loop iteration
re-runs load_repo_env and picks up the freshly installed interpreter.

Pulls VENV/PYTHON/PIP/PYTHONPATH out of the dotenv handler pipeline
into scripts/meta/python/detect.sh. load.sh now sources detect.sh and
prepends ${VENV}/bin to PATH above the INFINITO_ENV_LOADED guard, so
every BASH_ENV re-entry re-resolves PYTHON the moment a venv
materialises mid-chain — the same fix as b79ed2869 but at the SPOT,
which retires the reload-trick from ansible.sh, python.sh and
pre-commit.sh.
Also renames INVENTORY_VARS_FILE → INFINITO_INVENTORY_VARS_FILE under
the new env-prefix lint, drops the 5 dead INFINITO_ENV_*_LOADED unsets
left over from the multi-loader era, and adds a lint guarding the
INFINITO_ prefix invariant on env/*.env keys.

The four test-deploy workflows (server/universal/workstation/local)
each started the full compose stack just so scripts/meta/resolve/
apps.sh could call its meta-CLI inside the container. The stack
spin-up dwarfed the actual discovery query.
Introduce INFINITO_APP_DISCOVERY_RUNNER (host|docker, default
`docker` for local dev) alongside the existing INFINITO_TEST_RUNNER
/ INFINITO_LINT_RUNNER dispatch knobs. In host mode apps.sh runs
the meta-CLI through the venv python directly; docker mode keeps
the existing `docker compose --profile ci exec` path.
Workflows switch to host mode and replace `make up` with
actions/setup-python@v5 + `make install`. make install was already
a prereq of make up, so the install cost is unchanged -- only the
docker pull + container start time disappears.

scripts/docker/entry.sh's two compile-control reads (INFINITO_COMPILE
and INFINITO_COMPILE_SILENCE) crashed during Dockerfile RUN because
that context has no env-pipeline: env/default.env exists in the repo
but no make/BASH_ENV/load.sh chain materialises it into the running
shell. The bare reads under `set -u` triggered unbound-variable exit
even though the keys were registered in default.env + passthrough.
Move build/silence control from env to script flags so entry.sh is
self-contained at bootstrap time. Each flag now triggers its action
directly inside the parse loop -- no COMPILE/SILENCE state vars:
--compile -> run_local_build (streaming)
--compile-silent -> run_local_build >/dev/null 2>&1
-- -> end flag parsing, rest is the exec target
Drop INFINITO_COMPILE + INFINITO_COMPILE_SILENCE from the whole
registry surface: env/default.env, passthrough.STATIC_KEYS, the
infinito_compile handler (gone entirely), compose.yml's env
injection block, the dotenv-generator baseline test, the
build_env unit-test fixture, and the now-no-op `-e INFINITO_COMPILE=0`
in test-install-{make,pkgmgr} workflows.
Dockerfile RUN switches to `entry.sh --compile -- true`; runtime
ENTRYPOINT receives no flags so the default (no-compile) holds and
exec hands off to systemd via the CMD.

scripts/install/venv.sh
-----------------------
INFINITO_VENV_BASE is a static-default convention; the active VENV
may end up outside that base (e.g. \$HOME/.venvs/<name> when
/opt/venvs is not writable, or a wholly custom override). Probing
writability on the legacy base triggered a spurious sudo branch
whenever VENV lived elsewhere -- fatal in no_new_privs sandboxes
where sudo cannot escalate. Switch the writability + mkdir + chown
chain to \$(dirname "\${VENV}") so the script prepares the directory
it is actually about to create the venv in.
tests/lint/ansible/roles/web-app/playwright/test_app_base_url_uses_role.py
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
New lint: every role's templates/playwright.env.j2 must declare
APP_BASE_URL as a reference to the role's own surface. APP_BASE_URL
feeds the shared guest-persona helper and Playwright's global
baseURL; a role that hardcodes a sibling role name (most commonly
'web-app-dashboard') sends the guest test to the wrong site and
breaks any matrix variant where the sibling is not deployed
(ERR_SSL_UNRECOGNIZED_NAME_ALERT).
The 16 web-app role templates that violated the contract switch
from sibling lookups (`lookup('tls', 'web-app-dashboard', ...)`)
to the canonical `lookup('tls', application_id, ...)` form.

scripts/install/ansible.sh inherited PYTHON=python3 from all.sh because
the first env-generation runs before the venv exists and the PYTHON
handler falls back to "python3" (literal). On a CI runner that resolves
to actions/setup-python's interpreter, which has no `ansible` distribution
even though pip just installed one into the venv -- `ansible-galaxy
collection install` then fails with ModuleNotFoundError.
Mirror the reload-after-venv pattern that scripts/install/python.sh
already uses: when ${VENV}/bin/python now exists and the inherited
PYTHON still points at the system fallback, drop INFINITO_ENV_LOADED
and re-source load.sh so it prepends ${VENV}/bin to PATH for the
remainder of this subshell.

Three new lint tests close gaps in the INFINITO_* SPOT contract:
* tests/lint/filesystem/env/test_default_env_keys_handled.py
Every default.env key must be wired through a handler.
* tests/lint/filesystem/env/test_used_keys_declared.py
Every INFINITO_* in .sh/.py must live in env/{default,ci}.env or
a handler; per-line `# nocheck:` suppresses runtime-only refs.
* tests/lint/filesystem/python/test_no_infinito_get_defaults.py
Forbid ANY default in `.get("INFINITO_*", ...)` -- including the
empty-string fallback (which silently masks an unset key). The
nocheck check walks every physical line the call spans so an
autoformat-split call still honours the marker.
Cache namespace flattens to a single prefix:
INFINITO_PACKAGE_CACHE_* -> INFINITO_CACHE_PACKAGE_*
INFINITO_REGISTRY_CACHE_* -> INFINITO_CACHE_REGISTRY_*
The five previously driver-injected paths (APT_LIST, NPMRC,
PIP_CONF, REGISTRY_PROXY_CONF, FRONTEND_CA_FILE) move into
env/default.env and passthrough.STATIC_KEYS; the
`cache_env_overrides()` helper and its two call sites are gone
along with the test-fixture override for FRONTEND_CA_DIR.
SPOT-strict rewrites:
- 19 sites: `something.get("INFINITO_X", "")` -> subscript
`something["INFINITO_X"]` (loud KeyError when env loader did
not run; all keys live in env/default.env).
- 2 handler-internal bootstrap reads suppressed with
`# nocheck: handler-bootstrap-read`.
- 30 runtime-only / driver-injected / test-fixture references
annotated with `# nocheck: <reason>` per-line.
- Unit tests that previously removed SPOT-guaranteed keys via
`{k: v ... if k \!= KEY}` or `clear=True` switch to setting
the key to "" explicitly, matching the new contract.
Side fixes:
- INFINITO_DNS_DOMAIN + INFINITO_DNS_HOSTS_FILE move from
shell-side defaults in common.sh to env/default.env and
passthrough.STATIC_KEYS.
- dns_systemd_is_operational() drops the dead
INFINITO_DNS_FORCE_HOSTS_FALLBACK override branch (the
variable was never set anywhere).
- INFINITO_WORKER_FETCH switches from `os.environ.get(KEY, "1")`
to `os.environ[KEY]`.
- scripts/tests/code/wrapper.sh exec args move into a bash
array so `# nocheck:` on INFINITO_TEST_TYPE can live on its
own element line (SC2215 fix).

Rename env/static.env → env/default.env across the entire repo
(string label, doc links, Python file-path constants) — the
`parse_static_env*` function names stay as a stable API surface.
Sort all `*.env` / `*.env.j2` entries alphabetically (52 in
default.env, 4 in ci.env, 46 of 49 j2 templates; 3 templates
with Jinja2 `{% %}` control flow are skipped because conditional
blocks would tear apart under a naive sort). Sort all 83
Makefile target blocks alphabetically; .PHONY group headers
stay in place.
Collapse the two remaining multi-line Makefile recipe comments
(dotenv-force, test-signed) to single-line WHY comments.
Add four lint tests under tests/lint/filesystem/ to keep the
invariants enforced going forward:
- env/test_alphabetical_sort.py
- env/test_single_line_comments.py (# nocheck: markers exempt)
- makefile/test_alphabetical_targets.py
- makefile/test_single_line_comments.py (# nocheck: markers exempt)

The URL-reachability probe now bounds its wall-clock end-to-end:
allow_redirects=False (a redirect chain previously stacked
timeouts), a 5h30m global deadline that marks in-flight probes
as warnings on expiry, and live `[done/total]` progress every 50
probes. Submission order is shuffled so same-host URLs no longer
batch at the front and self-DoS one origin.
The Docker image-version test drops its bespoke sequential
fetch loop and calls find_outdated_updates() from utils.update.docker,
so it now shares the INFINITO_WORKER_FETCH-sized worker pool with
the repository-refs check.
`scripts/tests/code/wrapper.sh` propagates BASH_ENV into the
container exec — without it INFINITO_WORKER_FETCH was unset
inside the container and the URL probe collapsed to 1 worker.
`make test` gains test-external; `make dotenv-force` regenerates
.env with a stripped environment so stale BASH_ENV-preloaded
INFINITO_* values cannot pin old numbers via setdefault.

Replace the single `make -j ... --output-sync=target` invocation with
a shell-level fan-out that times each target individually and reports
a status table at the end. Output for each target is buffered to a
log file and dumped under a ✅/❌ header as soon as that target
finishes (preserving the per-target grouping `--output-sync` gave us).
Non-zero exit codes propagate; the run aborts at the first failure
once all already-launched children drain.

`make test` and `make lint` now delegate to a generic parallel-make
wrapper that caps `-j` at INFINITO_WORKER_CPU, syncs per-target
output, and prints wall-clock elapsed time. `make test` gains the
full `lint` sweep and drops the phantom `test-deploy` target (PHONY
without recipe); pre-commit hooks consolidate around a single
`make test` invocation.

Rename INFINITO_PARALLEL -> INFINITO_WORKER_ENABLED and add two derived
keys so consumers no longer multiply by their own factor: the env
generator resolves the cascade once at `make dotenv` time and bakes
the integer counts into `.env`.
Chain:
- INFINITO_WORKER_ENABLED (operator toggle, default true)
- INFINITO_WORKER_CPU = cpu_count() when ENABLED truthy, else 1
- INFINITO_WORKER_FETCH = CPU * 20 for I/O-bound bulk fetches,
collapsing to 1 when CPU == 1
Handlers:
- utils/env/handlers/infinito_worker.py (the prior single key)
removed
- utils/env/handlers/infinito_worker_cpu.py + infinito_worker_fetch.py
added; registry orders them after `passthrough` so the cascade
reads its dependency from the env-builder state.
Consumers (now 1-liners):
- tests/external/repository/test_urls_reachable.py reads
INFINITO_WORKER_FETCH directly.
- utils/update/base.py::resolve_max_fetch_workers() reads it directly;
utils/update/{docker,repository}.py keep using that helper plus a
ThreadPoolExecutor for the actual bulk fetch (with `dict(pool.map(...))`
satisfying PERF403).
- scripts/lint/autoformat.sh + docs/contributing/tools/make.md
rename INFINITO_PARALLEL -> INFINITO_WORKER_ENABLED.
Tests:
- EXPECTED_BASELINE_KEYS in test_dotenv_generator updated to track the
three new keys.

galaxy-importer's legacy-role mode was dropped upstream in 0.5.0
(CLI no longer accepts --legacy-role / --namespace), and the project
does not publish roles to Ansible Galaxy. The check enforces a
publishing schema that never gets exercised, against an abandoned API
that can only be kept alive via pinning galaxy-importer==0.4.39 +
setuptools<81 in an isolated venv. The cost has stopped buying
anything.
Removed:
- scripts/lint/galaxy.sh
- utils/install/lint/galaxy_importer.py
- install_isolated_pip_pkg() in utils/install/pip.py (only galaxy_importer
used it)
- Makefile lint-galaxy target + the entry in the `lint:` aggregate
- pre-commit make-lint-galaxy hook
- The galaxy_importer ensure() call in _install_ansible_tools
- Test assertion against cli.galaxy_importer in test_main.py
- Documentation rows mentioning lint-galaxy / galaxy-importer

Refactor scripts/install/lint.sh (~870 LOC bash) into a Python package
under utils/install/. scripts/install/lint.sh becomes a 7-line wrapper
that delegates to `python3 -m utils.install.lint`.
Layout:
- utils/install/{primitives,pip,npm,github_release,system_pkg}.py:
channel-agnostic installers
- utils/install/lint/<tool>.py: one ensure() per tool (actionlint,
shfmt, mbake, ruff, ansible_lint, galaxy_importer, markdownlint_cli2,
eslint, shellcheck, ansible_commands, ansible_collections)
- utils/install/lint/__main__.py: CLI + group dispatch + stamp logic
INFINITO_LINT_RUNNER dispatch:
- New env var (host | docker, default docker), tracked in env/static.env
+ passthrough handler + drift test.
- scripts/install/wrapper.sh routes `make install-lint` to host or
container based on the runner.
- scripts/lint/wrapper.sh already dispatched; container branch now uses
bash (not --login) so /etc/profile does not reset PATH, and forwards
BASH_ENV so the .env keys land in the lint script's env.
Stamp logic:
- Per-interpreter stamp at build/install-lint-<sha256(sys.executable)>.stamp
so host venv and container venv track installs independently despite
bind-mounted build/.
- `--force` drops the stamp; group args bypass the stamp.
Tests + docs:
- 43 unit tests under tests/unit/utils/install/{,lint/} cover primitives,
pip/npm/github_release/system_pkg fallback chains, and the main CLI
(stamp logic, group dispatch, error path).
- utils/install/README.md + utils/install/lint/README.md document the
structure and the per-tool ensure() contract.
- docs/contributing/tools/make.md install-lint row updated to mention
the runner dispatch + per-env stamp + install-lint-force.
