kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5.5 088c8be14f fix(ci): pull workspace images through the GHCR mirror like the deploy jobs
The workspace jobs pulled every image anonymously from Docker Hub and
two of them failed on its rate limit in run 39059128678 (#990): the
fedora swarm drill on busybox:1.38 on all three nodes, the centos
compose drill while building tor-smtp_custom. The regular deploy jobs
pull through the GHCR mirror, but the mirror was tied to being a real
GitHub runner: Profile.image_mirror_enabled() returned
runs_on_github(), and the swarm routine generated mirrors.yml only when
cli.meta.runtime reported github, which is act inside make
swarm-zombie.

The mirror is now its own capability, INFINITO_GHCR_MIRROR (next to
INFINITO_GHCR_MIRROR_PREFIX), written as a run fact like
INFINITO_CACHE_STACK: true on a real GitHub runner,
false everywhere else, and a non-empty exported value wins for the run.
Profile.image_mirror_enabled() reads the declaration and keeps
runs_on_github() as the fallback, and 02_provision_inventory.sh gates
on the same value instead of the runtime name. make swarm-zombie
forwards it into act through ACT_ENV, since act ignores the host env.

call-test-workspace.yml declares INFINITO_GHCR_MIRROR=true and passes
INFINITO_GHCR_MIRROR_PREFIX into the workspace container. Nothing else
of the workspace changes: is_ci, runs_on_github, the cache stack and
the docker root stay local-like. The step that loads the rescue paths
now removes the .env it generated on the runner, because on debian
rows load.sh sourced it inside the container and the run inherited
INFINITO_RUNNING_ON_GITHUB=true.

evangelostsak 1c5ba164f2 Merge remote-tracking branch 'upstream/main' into feature/svc-net-wireguard
No conflicts across 121 incoming commits. The one file both sides changed is
tasks/stages/01_constructor.yml: upstream parks an applications carrier for
the swarm bootstrap roles after the add_host tasks, and keys the carrier on
the tokens file as well. This branch's mesh bootstrap opens and drops its own
block-scoped carrier before that point, so both keep working as written.

Upstream also brings ruff 0.17.0, distro-derived env keys, a scoped act outer
teardown, the stalwart relay rule, the onion apex redirect and image and
version updates; ruff 0.17 reformats nothing on this branch.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5.5 47565781ea style(python): import datetime as dt for ruff 0.17
ruff 0.17.0 adds `datetime` -> `dt` to the default aliases of
flake8-import-conventions, and the project selects ICN, so lint-python
failed with ICN001 in seven files.

The files now import `datetime as dt`. ruff's unsafe fix also renamed
two local names in utils/github/playwright_summary.py into the alias:
the `_to_iso_z` parameter and the parsed value in
`_parse_iso_timestamp`. Both are now called `moment`; with the bare fix,
nine tests of test_playwright_summary.py failed with UnboundLocalError
and AttributeError.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5.5 1ba796d7f1 fix(ci): pull the images the runner uses itself from the GHCR mirror
The GHCR mirror covered role images only. The images the runner pulls on
its own went straight to Docker Hub: coredns from compose.yml, the cache
stack in compose/cache.override.yml and alpine:latest, the init image of
scripts/docker/cache/package-frontend/certs.sh. With the anonymous
githubactions quota spent, the guide step of Postmarks#0 (main run
37954203718) and Shopware#2 (#872) died on "toomanyrequests" while pulling
alpine:latest, after coredns had hit the same limit.

iter_runner_images (utils/docker/image/discovery.py) finds those images,
and the mirror sync and the fork-PR wait now cover them next to the role
images. On a real GitHub runner compose_file_args layers a generated
build/compose/runner-mirror.override.yml that points only the services of
the layered compose files at their mirror, and the certificate generator
gets the mirrored init image. Local runs and act are unchanged, and the
coredns literal stays in compose.yml for Dependabot. test-dns now waits for
images-mirror-missing like the deploy and workspace jobs, since it brings up
the stack too.

Verified with docker compose config on a simulated GitHub runner: the
service set is unchanged and only the runner images point at
ghcr.io/infinito-nexus/core/mirror/docker.io/..., and an existing role mirror
under that scheme pulls anonymously.

evangelostsak e456b1eee6 Merge remote-tracking branch 'origin/main' into feature/svc-net-wireguard
One conflict, in the MCP exclusion list of requirement 035. Both sides
edited the same line: main added svc-net-tor-smtp, this branch replaced the
three svc-net-wireguard-{core,plain,firewalled} entries with the single
svc-net-wireguard it deploys. Resolved to the union of both — 24 entries —
which is what the merged tree actually holds.

Everything else merged clean and was checked for overlap rather than
assumed: no reference anywhere still names the three replaced roles;
matrix.py kept main's PRIMARY_APPS alongside the reordered round, and the
bootstrap pass does not need it, since only one template reads it and
group_vars defaults it empty; and main's ansible.cfg addition sits in
[defaults], so the ssh_args the mesh tool derives its own connection
settings from are untouched.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 5b8465260f feat(ci): deploy only the variants a change reaches
An image bump in a provider redeployed every variant of every consumer,
including the variants that switch that provider off and therefore never
deploy the bumped image at all. The diff-derived whitelist now narrows each
affected role to the variants whose own round closure still reaches a seed,
emitted as `role#0,2` selection tokens. That closure is walked on the same
variant-merged services maps the matrix planner builds its rounds from, so the
narrowing follows a parent's variant choice across every generation of the
chain. It covers every auto-derived whitelist: the weekly update PRs,
Dependabot, and any other diff-driven run.

The narrowing never shrinks the matrix on partial information. A seed role
keeps every variant, because its own files changed. A role reached only
through a run_after edge keeps every variant too, because the round closure
does not follow that edge and a role whose hits are empty is therefore
unnarrowed rather than dropped.

A pinned token naming a role the discovery query does not return now warns
instead of aborting the run. The diff-derived whitelist legitimately names
roles the lifecycle envelope filters out, and once it pins variants such a
token would abort every chunk; role names are still checked against roles/
before the run starts, so a typo is caught one layer earlier.

The round's variant merge moves out of the deploy inventory package into
utils/roles/applications/variants.py. The CI selection has to build the same
maps, and importing the deploy package for them pulls in a module that reads
INFINITO_SRC_DIR at import time, which the runner host does not set.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 05fcec52e7 fix(planner): give every variant-carrying app the round's index, not only the include
round_variants was built by walking round_include. When a primary's variant switches its couplings off the planner resolves no prerequisites, round_include collapses to the primary, and no dependency gets an index at all. derive_includes then evaluates them at base config, where an unrendered Jinja coupling counts as enabled, so the closure inflates to everything reachable instead of what the variant declares.

Measured: svc-ai-litellm round 1 deploys 10 apps instead of 32, web-app-bigbluebutton round 1 and web-app-peertube round 1 drop from 34 to 10 and 11. Every other round of every role measured is unchanged, including all fourteen nextcloud rounds. The apps that leave are not dependencies of the round: svc-ai-litellm declares litellm, lmstudio, ollama and postgres and no sso at all, while bigbluebutton and peertube declare sso but switch it off in variant 1 together with dashboard, matomo, css, logout and prometheus.

complexity/cli.py:300 already documents the rule this makes true: the planner hands each pulled-in dependency round_index if round_index is below its variant count else 0, and pulls_at_zero implements exactly that. The coverage model was describing behaviour the planner only delivered for apps inside the include.

init.py filters the printed variant map to the apps actually shown, because round_variants now carries 266 entries and round 1 would otherwise print 112 of them on one line while ten apps deploy.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 c7d162fa88 fix(coredns): derive the domain regex from INFINITO_DOMAIN when rendering
INFINITO_DOMAIN_RE carried an already escaped regex through the env
chain: EnvBuilder.setdefault prefers a value already in the process env,
quote_for_dotenv escapes every backslash, and load.sh unescapes it again.
One inherited value with a doubled backslash was enough to write
"infinito\\\\.test" into .env, the rendered Corefile then matched a
literal backslash, and getent hosts test.infinito.test failed with rc 2.

The renderer now substitutes DOMAIN_RE = re.escape(INFINITO_DOMAIN) at
render time, so no backslash travels through the env or .env at all. The
template placeholder is renamed because it is a derived render value, not
an env key, and INFINITO_DOMAIN_RE is removed from default.env and the
passthrough keys, leaving INFINITO_DOMAIN as the single source.

A renderer test renders the real template and requires a single-escaped
match with no doubled backslash and no leftover placeholder. Verified
live: the Corefile renders ^infinito\.test\.$, test.infinito.test
resolves to 172.30.0.10 and test.infinitoXtest does not.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 f1e86eef58 fix(ci-trigger): retire a green suite on any input
The retrigger turned a suite off only when the source run had been
dispatched with that suite explicitly on. b1ca39e9dd introduced that
guard together with the feature itself, and it contradicts the same
commit's message and docstring, both of which state that the job record
is the only evidence.

The guard made the feature a no-op in its most common case. An input
left on its default renders no title segment and resolves to empty, so
config.get('workspace') was never 'true' for a run that reached the
suite on the 'auto' default. call-orchestrator.yml reads 'auto' as
global scope off the whitelist alone, and a --failed retrigger puts its
selection on the priority line while leaving the whitelist empty, so
every retrigger in the chain redeployed a suite that had already gone
green. Measured on run 33785198875: six workspace jobs green, and the
dispatch still went out carrying workspace=auto.

Drop the guard. suite_passed already refuses to retire anything that
failed, was cancelled, timed out, was skipped or never ran at all, so
the job record decides on its own.

Three tests cover the paths 8600f1d9aa left open, all of which pinned
the explicit 'true': green on 'auto', green with no recorded input, and
red on 'auto' staying on.

kevinveenbirkenbach 8600f1d9aa test(ci-trigger): pin the workspace suite rule
The rule lived only in suite_passed's body, and it inverts easily on a
casual read: ask for the suite again when it failed. Under that reading
the retrigger aliases would drop the suite in their most common case,
because they force-cancel the source run before reading it, so a shard
that was still running comes back cancelled rather than red.

Only an all-green suite is retired. Failed, cancelled, skipped, timed
out, still running and never dispatched all keep it on the retrigger,
and each of those now has a test. The two docstrings enumerate them, and
so does the i8ciall description, which is where an operator reads it.

kevinveenbirkenbach 1e78a02c34 fix(ci-trigger): resume where the last run left off
The regular line restarted at the head on every retrigger. resume_offset
compared the source run's deploy tokens against a freshly computed
ranking, but every axis rotates with the sweep number and a retrigger is
a new run with a new one: measured against the current 277-row ranking,
2 of 277 tokens matched. The walk stopped on its first row every time,
and the 66 rows past the job budget never deployed at all.

Membership now compares role#variant, the identity the rotation cannot
move, and a row counts as proven only when every job it had was green.
A priority row deploys its whole cross-product, so one role#variant can
carry several verdicts, and a green compose job must not carry a red
swarm one past the line. The offset also inherits the source run's own
offset as its floor rather than falling back to the head.

The priority line drops --include-unrun with it: only the hard failures
and the priority entries the run never deployed belong there. The rows
it never reached are the regular line's turn now that the offset walks.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Fable 5.1 1a4ee72249 feat(ci): let a retrigger override chunk_gate, with i8ciallon as the non-stop i8ciall
A retrigger copies every dispatch input from its source run, chunk_gate
included, so a sweep that stopped at its first red chunk came back stopping
there again, and nothing short of a manual dispatch could ask the chain to
deploy every chunk and report all of it at once.

`infinito administration deploy ci trigger --chunk-gate {true, false}` now
overrides the carried value after the source run's configuration is read; it
is the one deliberate departure from "reproduce the source run exactly", and
the module docstring says so. Omitted, the carried value or the workflow
default applies as before.

`i8ciallon` is `i8ciall` with `--chunk-gate false`: force-cancel the run, put
everything without a verdict back on the priority line, and keep deploying
past a failed chunk. The alias lint caps a name at two adjacent consonants,
which is why it is not `i8ciallnonstop`.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 f19d224dd0 fix(ci-trigger): never resume at a row the priority line takes
A retrigger by role hands the priority line a bare role name so the rotation
can pick fresh axes, and the matrix then drops that role from the regular
query entirely. The resume offset was computed against a ranking discovered
without the priority line, so it could name one of exactly those rows, and
the run it was handed to had already guaranteed the row would not be there.

Chunk 0 of sweep 77 died on it before deploying anything:

offset 'web-app-nextcloud#11' names no row of the regular line

and with it every other chunk of the run. The priority line of that run
promoted 27 roles whole, nextcloud among them; its regular line held no
nextcloud row at all.

Give resume_offset the priority pins and let it skip what they claim, by the
same two rules the matrix applies: a variant-less pin takes its whole role, a
pinned one takes those variants. The walk continues past a claimed row rather
than stopping, so a promoted role in the middle of the green window does not
truncate the resume point, and a window that is claimed end to end yields no
offset and starts at the head.

The ranking itself still discovers without the priority line, so an
unresolvable token there still cannot abort the helper.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 f1635e6a59 feat(variants): let a variant dictate the config of the providers it pulls in
A round deploys a provider once, so the role that pulls it in is the only place that can say how lean it has to be. A variant entry may now carry any application config topic under a service it depends on: a mapping deep-merges, so naming one key changes that key alone, and null empties the topic. Empty was the case that needed a marker of its own, because merging an empty mapping is a no-op and would leave exactly the services the round was trying to shed.

The topic vocabulary and the merge semantics live in utils.roles.applications.topics, which is also where resources.py now gets them rather than spelling the same null-or-merge out a second time. Collecting who demands what stays in the inventory tree, refuses two roles demanding different values for one provider in the same round, and skips a role's own entity entry so the existing services.<own>.users declarations are not read as overrides.

The CI set-cover learns the same fact. Its greedy cover retires a role's variant-0 row when an earlier row of another role embeds it, on the stated premise that embedding pulls the provider's variant 0. A variant that dictates that provider's config breaks the premise from the other side: whatever ran, it was not the provider as the provider declares it. Such a pair now covers nothing, so the retired row keeps its job, its artefact and its verdict.

Measured on the current tree: 20 override pairs, 41 covered rows before and after, so nothing is revoked today. The rule bites the moment an override lands in a row that covers.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 00478b8ead fix(coredns): substitute the Corefile in-process instead of shelling to envsubst
Two workspace jobs of run 33414875521 died the same way, on debian and on fedora:

RuntimeError: envsubst not found. Install gettext-base (Ubuntu/Debian) or gettext (Arch).
    make: *** [Makefile:252: compose-up] Error 1
    make: *** [Makefile:778: swarm-zombie] Error 1

swarm-zombie runs the deploy with INFINITO_APP_DISCOVERY_RUNNER=host, so the README
replay step calls compose-up on the act runner, and that image ships no gettext. A
two-variable substitution took the whole deploy down with it, and the failure reads
like a broken host rather than a missing package.

string.Template.safe_substitute handles ${VAR} exactly as envsubst does for this
template, including the four bare `$` that end the match lines -- both leave them
alone. The rendered Corefile is byte-identical, checked over three re-renders, and
getent resolves inside the deploy container afterwards.

The concurrency property from f3826589f2 is untouched: the render still writes into
the descriptor from tempfile.mkstemp and lands through an atomic replace. The read
goes through utils.cache.files.read_text, as the uncached-read lint requires.

Nothing else in the replay step failed -- one traceback, one raise, one message.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 7fd495cdfc feat(ci): replay a role's README instructions on its smallest deploy row
The instructions test held a job of its own that picked one random role per
run, so a README's Production block was proven roughly once per 265 roles.
The replay now rides on a deploy row instead: no extra runner, and every role
the sweep touches gets its documented one-command deploy exercised.

The row is the role's smallest variant -- fewest services enabled -- because
that is the shape the README describes, and it is chosen among the variants
the sweep actually deploys, so a row cut as redundant coverage cannot silently
drop the role from the test. A role qualifies only when its README carries a
Production block and the guide's own mode is one the role runs and tests.

The marked entry carries the guide mode in `instructions` and a 📖 in its job
title, between the variant number and a priority ⭐. The guide mode is
independent of the mode the rotation gave the row: a swarm row still replays
in compose. The step runs last in the deploy job, after the swarm teardown,
because the replay deploys the role a second time and needs the runner's
ports.

call-test-instructions.yml, cli.meta.ci.guide_select and the `instructions`
dispatch input go with it. `redundant()` moves next to the marker so the
chunker, the plan table and the marker share one definition.

The plan table trades its 📊 Weight column for 📖 Instructions; nothing read
the weight any more, so it leaves the matrix entries too.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 bfde5876ba fix(ci-trigger): resume the regular line behind the green window, not the deployed one
The offset a retrigger carries skipped every row the source run merely
started. A row that failed or was cancelled therefore retired its place in
the ranking: the regular line resumed past it, and the row came back only on
the priority line, pinned to the one combination it was recorded in. Every
other combination of that row was silently dropped from the sweep.

resume_offset now stops at the first row that is not green, so only proven
coverage is skipped. passed_selections supplies it; the three token
comprehensions that only differed in their state filter collapse into one
helper. deployed_selections and settled_selections keep feeding
--include-unrun unchanged.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 6d191555c3 feat(ci-trigger): retrigger by role, and by what never got a verdict
Two switches and an alias for the case f4c5a7cc36 was not written for: a run
where most of the ranking is red and much of it never ran.

--roles-only collapses the failed selections to their role ids. f4c5a7cc36
replaced exactly that form with pinned tokens, and its reason holds: the
rotation may not draw the combination that broke. It holds for a handful of red
rows. At thirty roles the question stops being which combination broke and
becomes whether the role comes up at all, and a token per combination spends
the priority budget proving the same role red twice. The default is unchanged;
this is the trade, named, behind a flag.

--include-unrun puts the rows the source run holds no job for on the priority
line, with their axes. resume_offset covers a run that walked a contiguous
prefix; it stops at the first gap, and a run whose priority line consumed the
budget before the head of the ranking leaves a hole at row one. Then the offset
is empty, the retrigger starts over, and the rows nobody judged queue behind
the ones already settled.

With --strict the two agree on what settles a row. Only a success or a failure
does. A cancelled row, or one still running when the run was read, was never
given the chance to be either, so it comes back as itself rather than as a role
name that would let the rotation draw some other combination instead. On the
run this was written against that moves 24 rows: 123 started, 99 judged.

Membership is decided on role#variant. Mode, onion state and distro are
assigned by the sweep rotation, so comparing full tokens between a source run
and a freshly computed ranking reports almost every row as unrun -- measured,
266 of 269, against 177 once the identity is right. Each ranking row is a
distinct role#variant, which is what makes it the identity to compare on.

i8ciall carries the combination, next to i8cifail which reproduces the exact
red rows and i8cifo which takes only the hard failures.

resume_offset and the new code now build their tokens through one helper
rather than two copies of the same five lines.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 7162b7bf4c Merge fork/feature/svc-net-tor into feature/ai-agent-employees
834 commits from the Tor onion-service branch against 299 of ours, from merge
base 7b646bdece: 127 conflicted files, 3506 files changed.

The two sides are largely orthogonal. Theirs adds svc-net-tor and a `tor` service
across the role tree, plus two sweeping refactors: shipped scripts sorted by
language (files/ruby/, files/python/, files/shell/, scripts/lint/*.sh) and the
unit suite moved under tests/unit/python/. Ours is requirement 036, the native AI
gateway, plus the MCP role work. Most conflicts were both sides appending to the
same service map, resolved as unions.

Resolutions that were not unions:

Credentials moved namespace. Theirs renamed meta/schema.yml to meta/secrets.yml
and re-addressed credentials as secrets.credentials.<name>. Git carried our
litellm_api_key blocks through the rename, but every consumer we added still read
'credentials.<name>', which no longer resolves. All 45 call sites are migrated.

plugins/filter/container_volumes.py is deleted by theirs and relocated to
plugins/lookup/container_volumes.py, where it carries the same tmpfs defect our
f85996b43 had just fixed: a hard-coded {"size": ...} that silently drops a per
mount `mode`. The fix is re-applied in the relocated file, as that commit's merge
note anticipated.

compose.yml keeps only INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_REPORTS_BASE_DIR. Theirs also forwards
INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_STAGE_BASE_DIR; that line is deliberately dropped, per the
analysis recorded in 45804e9ad -- STAGE has a drift-proof role-vars fallback,
while forwarding it promotes a setdefault-pinnable .env value above that SPOT.

tasks/stages/01_constructor.yml takes their include, ./tasks/utils/setup/group.yml,
because their refactor removed tasks/groups/*-roles.yml, leaving our include
target nonexistent. Our task name is kept, since svc-virt is in the loop.

Makefile swarm-zombie is a union: their validate plus teardown, then our
lab_subnet cleanup, which their side dropped while leaving lab_subnet.sh as the
only orphaned reference in the file.

01_bootstrap.sh keeps our deterministic --ip pinning, which distinguishes an
already-attached node from a real failure, over their `|| true`.

Their language-sorted layout orphaned references our side still held: zammad's
two scripts/apply/*.rb, jenkins' java-with-ca-trust.sh, and the notify topics
their handlers renamed to hyphenated form. All corrected.

roles/sys-svc-compose/files/shell/swarm/stack_ready.sh gains our latched-update
block: paused, rollback_paused, rollback_started and rollback_completed exit 2
rather than polling a state that cannot resolve without another deploy.

config_from_run is unioned to (title, logged, jobs); the production caller in
trigger/__main__.py now passes jobs, without which our suite suppression would
have been inert.

READMEs are regenerated rather than hand-merged: 15 LiteLLM rows and 91 Tor rows
now derive from the merged metadata, which is itself evidence the meta merge is
coherent.

Verified: 5161 unit tests pass. The single failure, test_query.py TestSortSpec,
also fails on fork/feature/svc-net-tor at b51d2f9919, measured in a baseline
worktree -- so this merge introduces no new unit-test failure. Two modules are
excluded from that run because `baudolo`, a dependency their branch introduces,
is not installed on this host.
Not verified: no deploy has run against the merged tree, and make quality has not
been run end to end here.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 3781c30235 fix(env): write the cache-stack declaration from a handler, not the registry
48845db97 made three capability decisions declarable and named them INFINITO_*, which put them under setdefault: the live environment wins and the value is written back. Makefile exports BASH_ENV, so .env is re-exported into every make recipe, and scripts/tests/code/run.sh reaches dotenv through 'make setup' on every test run. A declaration made for one run therefore became a machine fact on first regeneration and stayed one - that is what made the workspace failure intermittent rather than reproducible, and why fedora died on 11 assertions where debian passed the same code.

A dedicated handler writing through eb.set recomputes the value every time and discards whatever the environment held, so the key stays registered in default.env and visible to the lints while remaining structurally unpinnable. running_on/github.py already worked this way; the distinction now has a name in utils/env/README.md. The exporting shell still steers its own run, because load.sh preserves non-empty caller values.

The other two declarations are deleted rather than moved. image_mirror_enabled and docker_root_ephemeral both derive from runs_on_github(), and the orchestrator does not unset INFINITO_RUNNING_ON_GITHUB, so inside the workspace they were already true and the declarations restated a value that held anyway. Measured across all four runtime contexts: only the workspace row changes, and only for the cache.

Verified by reversing the probe: 'INFINITO_CACHE_STACK=false make dotenv' writes .env=true, where the registry path wrote the exported value back.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 48845db979 refactor(profile): split runtime capabilities from runtime identity
One boolean answered five unrelated questions: whether the pull-through cache stack runs, whether image pulls take the GHCR mirror, whether the docker data root may be wiped, plus runtime naming and inventory resolution. The workspace is the environment where those answers diverge — it simulates a developer machine on a real runner — so getting one of them meant misreporting where the suite runs and silently paying for the other four.

is_ci() and runs_on_github() stay facts about the machine. cache_stack_enabled, image_mirror_enabled and docker_root_ephemeral become decisions that default off those facts and can be declared explicitly, so an environment states what it wants. Every default reproduces the previous condition exactly, including the distinction the old mirror and wipe gates drew between a real runner and act.

73ae40585 got the cache stack by flipping the identity flag and lost the docker-root wipe with it; the workspace now declares all three capabilities instead. Pairs with 4c068d1cf, which makes the resulting stray bind sources harmless rather than fatal.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 66bde6af40 feat(ci): spread distro and filesystem per row
A run-wide draw proved one distribution and said nothing about the other four, while reporting green. Both are matrix-row axes now, assigned by the same deterministic rotation mode and tor already use, so one sweep exercises every distribution and every filesystem.

The two read the row's position like an odometer, the distro as the low digit. Turning both on the position directly covers only n of the n x m pairs whenever the pools are the same length, and no sweep unlocks it.

Both are part of a row's identity: glyphs in the job label, columns in the plan table, shards in the artifact name. Both are selectable through %distro and /filesystem, and a retrigger replays the distro off a failed title. It leaves the filesystem out, because a title states the kind the matrix assigned and a deploy may have fallen back from it.

A row's filesystem is a preference unless a human names it, on the run or in a token. Reading the matrix's own narrowing as a demand would fail rows for every transient condition the applying step is built to tolerate.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 2aca0f62d0 fix(ci): make the failed-run retrigger reach its dispatch
i8cifail died twice on the same run, each failure hiding the next.

The retrigger recovers a source run's dispatch inputs from a job log, because the title truncates at 512 bytes and REST answers inputs: null for a finished workflow_dispatch. That reader picked the first depth-1 job outright. A skipped job never uploads a log blob, so its log endpoint answers BlobNotFound as a bare HTTP 404 -- and a force-cancelled run can leave every depth-1 job skipped, which is why deeper jobs are now read too rather than assumed inputs-free. Candidates are taken shallowest first, so the orchestrator's own inputs still win over what a caller forwarded. gh 2.97 also refuses to emit a log holding terminal escape sequences and exits 1; the log downloader read that as no log and silently wrote none. A missed fetch is now tolerated instead of aborting, so the guard in dispatched_priority reports an expired log in words rather than the command dying on gh: HTTP 404.

Behind that sat the resolver: it decoded whole priority entries, but an entry may pin axes (web-app-zammad#1@compose+tor), which the display-name codec does not parse. Every pinned entry aborted as corrupt. split_axes -- already the seam decode_list uses -- separates name from suffix, so only the name is resolved and the truncation guard stays sharp. The pin rides along into the retrigger: the entry never ran, so the run holds no evidence its axes were wrong.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 5137465c6f style: delete every comment the comments-valid policy rejects
3529 invalid comments in 528 files, grandfathered in while the linter
only saw the working-tree diff. Removal ran through the linter's own
collectors, so detection and deletion cannot drift: a comment whose
opener line is blank before it and whose closer line is blank after it
loses all its lines, anything else loses only the comment region, and a
line left holding a bare delimiter goes with it.

Five files keep their comments behind a nocheck marker instead. Four are
upstream configs whose inline docs are upstream's own (mautrix, systemd
journald, nextcloud-oidc-login, MediaWiki). In littlejs the
commented-out entries ARE the deactivation mechanism for an example
tile, so deleting them would delete configuration.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 972b4ce7aa fix(ci): wire the offset key up and give the selections their own module
Four findings the quality gate raised against the offset and resume work, all
of them mine.

INFINITO_CI_OFFSET sat next to INFINITO_CI_CHUNK, where it reads well and
sorts wrong, and no handler claimed it -- so `make dotenv` would never have
materialised the default and every run outside CI would have resolved the
offset from an unset variable. It is in ASC order now and passes through the
static handler.

runs.py crossed 500 lines. The three helpers that translate job titles back
into selection tokens move to selections.py, which is a seam rather than a
quota: reading a finished run and dispatching a new one is one subject,
turning a job title into `role#variant@mode+tor` is another, and only the
latter is what lets a retrigger replay exactly what failed.

The sshd handler still told operators to look for a handler named
'sshd restart' after the topic became sshd-restart, and three lines from the
offset commit were past the format width.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 5d53c46c1f feat(ci): resume the regular line where the source run stopped
A retrigger started the regular line at the head again, redeploying the exact
window the source run had already judged. The red rows come back on the
priority line anyway, so that window was runner time spent on questions with
an answer.

The offset is computed now: the last row of the leading run of rows the source
run reached, as a selection token. Green or red does not matter -- what matters
is that the row ran. The scan stops at the first gap, because a hole inside the
window means that row was filtered out, not that the run got further, and
resuming past it would skip everything behind it.

The ranking is recomputed under the configuration the retrigger carries, since
that is the list the offset resolves against. The priority line is left out of
that computation on purpose: it only blacklists rows from the regular query,
and a token in it that no longer resolves would abort the very helper whose job
is to save time.

offset therefore joins priority as an input the retrigger decides rather than
carries. The integration test forced that: it asserts every carried input
arrives unchanged, and offset no longer did. The category was wrong, not the
test.

Costs a full local discovery per retrigger. There is no cheaper answer -- jobs
inside a chunk are sorted by name, so how far a run got cannot be read off the
job list without the ranking.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 15b3c5db03 refactor(ci): move the git and gh plumbing out of runs.py
runs.py stood at 568 lines against the 500-line cap from 4b37e123d. The git and gh helpers were the clearest seam in it: eight functions that know nothing about deploy runs and only drive subprocess and the gh CLI. They move to cli/administration/deploy/ci/gh.py, leaving 482 lines behind. The module is deliberately not named runs_gh.py, which would have formed a prefix group with runs.py and tripped the structure lint.

Re-exporting the moved names from runs.py does not survive the formatter: autoformat strips them as unused imports, and seven call sites in status/__main__.py and trigger/__main__.py would then raise AttributeError at runtime. The call sites therefore reach into gh directly, and the mock targets move with them -- patching a name in the module that no longer resolves it makes a test green without testing anything.

fetch_jobs stays reachable through runs, because find_last_deploy_run calls it internally and test_status.py covers both the URL and the branch path with a single patch. Splitting that name would have left one of the two paths unpatched.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 f4c5a7cc36 feat(ci): retrigger the exact selection that failed, in every mode
A retrigger answered a red run with role names. Three things were lost on the
way, and each of them let the rerun test something other than what broke.

The mode was a scope: --failed swarm dropped whatever fell in compose, and two
aliases passed that scope permanently. Every mode is read now, and a leftover
scope argument is accepted and ignored rather than breaking the callers.

The selection was a role id, so the rerun deployed whichever variant, mode and
onion state the sweep rotation picked next -- not necessarily the combination
that failed. Each red job now contributes its own token
(web-app-x#0@swarm+tor); a role that failed in two modes comes back twice.

The carried configuration was a hand-written list of eight inputs against the
thirteen the form declares, so resume_from_chunk, sweep, workspace_track and
whitelist silently fell back to defaults. The list is read off
entry-manual-steer.yml now, and everything but the priority line travels
verbatim, values taken from the job log that records them all.

That rule is deliberate and total: it supersedes the suite-skip behaviour on
fork/feature/ai-agent-employees (b1ca39e9d), which turned workspace and
instructions off when the source run had passed them. A retrigger reproduces
its source; deciding which suites are worth re-running is not its job.

The integration test walks the workflow's own input declaration, so an input
added to the form without being carried fails here rather than in a run.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 ce2db79ee5 fix(ci-trigger): name the inputs a retrigger actually reproduces
CONFIG_INPUTS lost modes, sequencing and mode_fail_fast when the deploy
modes collapsed into one chunked sweep, but two mirrors of it did not
follow.

The --run help text enumerates what a retrigger carries over, so it was
telling the operator about three inputs the dispatch no longer has. The
job-log fixture described a run recording mode_fail_fast, a state the
dispatch can no longer produce, which left the log half of
config_from_run asserting on an input nobody writes.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 6b3ed82aa0 fix(ci): resolve deploy job titles through the display-name codec
report_failures matched job names against a raw role id
((?:web-app|web-svc|svc|sys)-[a-z0-9-]+), but job titles have carried
display names for a while, so the regex matched nothing and every failed
deploy on main went unreported. runs.py had the same shape and stopped
at the first mode glyph, which swallowed a caller path like
'z / Host / sys-front-proxy' into the role name.

Both now go through axes.parse_label, kept next to the function that
builds the label so the two cannot drift, and resolve the middle through
the display-name codec. The parser anchors on the LAST mode glyph so a
reusable-workflow caller path carrying one of its own cannot capture the
role.

The onion state is part of what identifies a job, because a priority row
runs the same mode and variant twice; artifact_name takes it so the
reporter looks for the artifact the run actually uploaded.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 905a5fb2d9 feat(deploy): rotate credentials between the two passes
PASS 2 read the exact values PASS 1 wrote, so no deploy ever had to propagate a secret that moved. Every role that only writes a credential at creation time therefore stayed green without the update path being exercised once.

Both orchestrators now call `inventory credentials reset` after the recover drill and before the async pass: compose through the container in the new .rotate module, swarm through the matrix orchestrator with --mirror, because its inventory keeps one host_vars copy per node. --backup keeps the pre-rotation file for the post-mortem, since after a rotation nothing records what PASS 1 deployed with. `administrator` stays exempt in both: its password is ansible_become_password, and rotating it would lock the deploy out of its own host.

Expect roles that never re-apply a changed secret to fail PASS 2 from here on; that is the gate working. Both database engines already converge their root password on every run.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 e96c752549 Merge fix/playwright/env-template-gate into feature/svc-net-tor
75 commits: the socialhome role reimplemented against the project it actually
deploys, native-login specs for funkwhale and shopware, a window.open IdP
handoff and a settings-link fallback in the shared persona helpers, a swarm
converge budget that gives up on a terminal task, and a long tail of role
fixes.

Eleven conflicts. The shared persona helpers (keycloak.js, logout.js) take the
incoming structure — they gained real behaviour this branch never had — with
this branch's resolveTimeout convention re-applied over it and
confirmKeycloakLogoutIfPrompted re-attached at every return point; without it
the Keycloak SSO session outlives the logout. playwright.config.js keeps this
branch's version: both sides set actionTimeout, but ours routes through an env
var and 15s is too short behind an onion. socialhome's spec takes the incoming
content — 2dbd6eb10 found the role described the wrong upstream project
entirely — and keeps gotoOnion and expectHstsWhenTls, since demanding HSTS over
a plaintext onion is a false failure. Both READMEs were regenerated rather than
merged by hand.

Three collisions arrived with no conflict marker at all, because each side
changed a different place in a different file:

- group_vars/all/18_swarm.yml declared swarm_stack_converge_retries twice.
Same value, so nothing breaks today; editing the documented one would have
  silently changed nothing.
- svc-net-tor and web-app-socialhome both claimed 192.168.74.0/24. Socialhome,
the newer role, moves to 192.168.75.0/24.
- web-app-socialhome/meta/schema.yml arrived as a new file, so ef5ea7cb5's
rename never saw it. Its credential would not have resolved and the role
would have deployed with an unusable administrator account.

The incoming specs also needed this branch's conventions: raw timeouts wrapped,
four page.goto calls routed through gotoOnion, a request.get given an
onion-aware timeout, and 21 roles marked playwright-service-flag over the tor
block this branch added to them.

make quality green on the merge result.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 bc1d2d86f6 feat(ci): carry the tor mode into a retrigger, read from the job log
A retrigger reproduces its source run's configuration, and the tor axis was
missing from it: rerunning a run dispatched with 'exclusive' silently fell back
to 'auto' and tested a different matrix than the one whose failures it was meant
to chase.

The mode is read from the job log's Inputs block, not from the run title. The
title renders it as a glyph, so recovering it there would mean translating a
symbol back into a word on every retrigger; the log already holds what the
operator picked, and inputs_from_jobs reads that same block for the priority
list today. LOG_INPUTS names the inputs that take this route.

That also removes a trap the glyph created. The tor segment renders through
format('{0} ', ...) with no opening literal, and run_name locates a value by
searching for its head - str.find('') matches at position 0, so the parser would
have handed back the title's own prefix as the tor value, plausibly and without
raising. segments() now skips a headless segment; its glyphs stay openings, so
they still terminate the value before them.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 b1ca39e9dd feat(cli): stop retriggering CI suites the source run already passed
A retrigger carried the workspace and instructions toggles over from the
run title, so a suite that had already gone green was dispatched again
and spent runners on work with a known answer.

Derive each toggle from the source run's job record instead: a suite is
turned off only when every one of its jobs reports success. A suite that
was skipped, cancelled or never dispatched has not passed, so it is still
asked for; absence of a failure is not evidence of a success. One failing
shard keeps the whole suite on.

Match against the job path rather than the run title by dropping the
workflow-name segment, and fail open when nothing matches, so an unknown
job layout re-runs the suite rather than silently skipping it.

kevinveenbirkenbachandClaude Opus 5 a0494660c0 docs(services): say what is_explicit_truth actually matches
The docstring promised the narrow form "{{ '<role>' in group_names }}" and
pointed at tests/integration/roles/meta/test_services_dynamic_flags.py, a path
that does not exist. The helper substring-matches "in group_names", so a
negated predicate matches too -- and that is deliberate: such a flag is true on
some node shape, and the static closure is the co-deploy superset, so the
dependency must resolve at tooling time either way.
tests/integration/roles/meta/services/test_dynamic_flags.py:194 asserts the same
substring rule, which is the real contract.

Reported during triage as a latent defect (seaweedfs' frontend is gated on
"not in group_names" and reads as enabled on a tor node). It is not one; the
description was. Tightening the matcher would have changed behaviour against the
test that pins it, so that is filed as won't-fix and only the wording changes
here. The README table gains the row it was missing.

No executable line in this diff.

kevinveenbirkenbach dc4e58ee09 fix(ci-trigger): resolve the run repo through remote.pushDefault
A branch with no tracking remote fell straight through to origin, so on a fork checkout every run lookup asked the upstream repository and answered HTTP 404. i8cifail could not reach a single run of this branch.

GitHub cuts display_title at 512 UTF-8 bytes and closes it with a

and whitelist last, and on the --failed path the whitelist is empty, so
the cut always lands inside the priority list: 21 of 69 roles survived
the source run's title, the 21st a half-token.

untriggered_priority parsed that title and passed undecodable names
through verbatim, so the fragment reached the dispatched priority
input, became the orchestrator's whitelist, and hit the complexity
filter's lexer, whose word class has no rule for CJK. Sequencing died
with argparse exit 2 and took the run with it. The retrigger that is
supposed to repair a red run was breaking its successor.

Read the priority from the ##[group] Inputs block a called job's log
records instead: it carries all 69 roles. Depth-1 jobs only -- a deeper
one echoes its own workflow's inputs, which have no priority.

Drop the decode passthrough now that the source is lossless. The loud
failure is only affordable once a whole value exists; before, it would
have aborted every large retrigger.

dispatched_priority cross-checks against the title: it still proves a
priority line existed even when truncation mangled it, so an empty log
read is a broken reader -- expired logs, a moved block -- and not a run
without priority. Without that check the carry-over would vanish
silently, which is what the rest of this change exists to prevent.
