A user password is pinned once by inventory creation from a shell-safe
alphabet, because it travels through Ansible, a shell and container exec.
An application whose registration demands a special character then had no
way to say so, and roles worked around it with a second credential beside
the account they already owned. The account now carries algorithm and
validation itself, two roles disagreeing about one account abort instead of
one silently winning, and an unsatisfiable pair fails naming both halves.

The mcp role sat in the administrator's unscoped roles list. That list carries
no application, and the RBAC builders admit any user whose roles contain the
name, so the single entry granted mcp in every deployed application at once.
It is replaced by application_roles, a mapping of application to roles, which
the user cache now reads and passes through. Both directory builders resolve
membership through one shared function, so the Keycloak and LDAP paths cannot
drift.
The member list never reached its consumer. mcp_group_members yielded username
strings while the Open WebUI reconciler calls member.get("email"), so the first
real grant would have crashed the deploy. It went unnoticed because the
reconciler returns early on an empty list and nobody held the role. The filter
now yields username and email, which is what the reconciler needs to match
accounts Open WebUI created from an OIDC claim, whose display name need not be
the username. A test drives the real filter output through the real script so
the two sides cannot diverge again.
The Playwright scenario walks the boundary end to end: biber is served no MCP
tools, the administrator adds him to the provider's LDAP mcp group in LAM, and
after signing in again the tools are served. LAM is reached only when it is
present in the inventory, so no service edge or variant is added for it.
The administrator spec inverts its last assertion. With the role scoped, an
administrator holds no application's mcp group, and BYPASS_ADMIN_ACCESS_CONTROL
is false, so the tools must not be served to them either.
The merge across every meta/users.yml compared a field as a whole. For tokens that field is a mapping whose keys are per-app entries, so two roles registering a token for the same user hit the conflict check even though the entries never overlapped: the first role to declare it won and the second aborted the deploy. sys-token-store is the sanctioned way to persist a runtime secret per app on a user, which made it usable by exactly one role.
Dict-valued fields now merge key by key. A real collision, the same sub-key with two different values, still raises, and the message names field.sub_key so a token store holding a dozen apps says which one collided.
Tests cover both paths: two roles registering distinct token keys for one user, and the same key with conflicting values.

Add DIR_BACKUPS to utils.paths and INFINITO_DIR_BACKUPS /
INFINITO_DIR_SECRETS env handlers, derive the recover-console constants
(including NFS_EXPORT_STATE) from utils.paths and the nfs export SPOT,
and switch every remaining self-built /var/lib/infinito subpath - the
secrets recover targets, the swarm extras backup source, the users
token-store candidate chain, the CI recover drill, the swarm NFS
diagnostics and the playwright reports dir - to those constants. Tests
consume the env constants directly; narration comments in the touched
files are dropped per the comment lint.

Two stacked defects broke keycloak object updates on the swarm-delegated
cross-node path:
- get_merged_users cached the templar-less raw_users payload (fetched by
get_merged_applications) under the same key as templar-backed lookups, so
every later lookup('users') in the process returned UNRENDERED values. The
literal '{{ 42 | strong_password }}' / '{{ ansible_become_password }}' then
reached kcadm and swarmkit, failing the realm password policy and the stack
env validation. Key the cache on templar presence so rendered and raw
payloads never share an entry.
- The cross-node recovery block re-included itself with a self-referential
'kc_update_attempt' template var, which Ansible 2.19 expands recursively
('Recursive loop detected: maximum recursion depth exceeded') on the second
attempt. Advance the counter with an eager set_fact so each level reads a
concrete int.

Two scalar group-vars are referenced verbatim in
`roles/user-*/meta/users.yml` (`lastname: "{{ ORGANIZATION }}"`,
`description: "owned by {{ SOFTWARE_NAME }}"`). Ansible 2.19's
TrustedAsTemplate gate silently leaves those untagged Jinja
literals unrendered, so downstream consumers received the raw
`{{ ORGANIZATION }}` string. Keycloak rejected the resulting user
updates with `error-person-name-invalid-character` because `{` /
`}` are not valid in a person name.
Add `substitute_scalar_placeholders` next to the existing
`substitute_primary_domain_placeholder`. Both helpers run from
`get_merged_users` immediately before `_render_with_templar`, so the
cache returns fully-resolved scalars regardless of the templar's
trust gate.
Also restructure: move the cache into a `utils.cache.users` package
so the placeholder helpers no longer need a redundant `users_`
prefix:
utils/cache/
users/
__init__.py was utils/cache/users.py (public API
`get_user_defaults` / `get_merged_users` is
unchanged; consumers using
`from utils.cache.users import ...` keep
working via package __init__).
placeholders.py the substitution helpers, dropping the
redundant `users_` prefix.
tests/unit/utils/cache/
users/
__init__.py
test_module.py was test_users_module.py
test_placeholders.py new: 15 unit tests covering both
helpers (nested-structure walk, URL /
port handling for DOMAIN_PRIMARY,
Jinja-in-raw-value resolution, empty /
missing skip paths, and a guardrail
pinning the current
`_SCALAR_USER_PLACEHOLDERS` tuple).
Update README links under `utils/cache/` and
`docs/contributing/artefact/files/plugins/lookup/users.md` to point
at the new package path.
Placeholders covered today: ORGANIZATION, SOFTWARE_NAME. Extend the
tuple in `utils/cache/users/placeholders.py` when a new scalar
group-var appears in user metas.
