proxy_hide_header is replaced, not merged, by a location that sets its own,
so upstream_strips.conf.j2 only takes effect where a location includes it.
The health locations of web-app-prometheus (/healthz/ready, /_live_probe),
which every standard vhost includes, and the extra locations of
web-app-bluesky (/config, /ipcc) and web-app-opentalk (/v1/, /signaling,
/livekit) proxied without it, so X-Powered-By and the upstream's
Strict-Transport-Security leaked on those paths.
All seven locations now include the strips. A new lint checks every role
template without a server block, i.e. every fragment the front proxy
renders into a vhost, and fails on a proxying location that lacks them.
Templates with their own server block are app-internal nginx configs
behind such a location and stay out of scope.

- Declare `__all__` in every package `__init__.py` whose `PROJECT_ROOT`
is imported by its modules (163 packages), so the constant counts as
exported; list every public name where the package defines more.
- Empty the 15 package `__init__.py` files whose `PROJECT_ROOT` no module
imports.
- Declare the public API of `utils.github.variant.axes` in `__all__`,
re-exports included, instead of silencing them with `noqa: F401`; the
list matches the one `feature/store-i18n` already carries.
- Use `import unittest.mock as mock` in `test_applications.py`, as the
rest of the suite does.
- Spell `_NON_PRINTABLE` in `utils/yaml_bootstrap.py` as the equivalent
BMP-only positive class; it matches exactly the same 2111 code points
as the old negated class across U+0000..U+10FFFF.

Of the 76 open code scanning alerts, 39 point at code that can change.
svc-ai-mcp-adapter:
- A path argument that is empty or made only of dots is refused.
Percent-encoding keeps a separator inside its segment, but "." and ".."
need none, so an upstream that resolves dot segments could answer from a
path the contract does not name.
- parse_duration splits on the units. The pattern it used before rescanned
a long run of digits from every start position.
Tests and the README generators:
- Every Jinja environment built with autoescape=False and a "noqa: S701"
uses select_autoescape now, as six test modules and
utils/templating/jinja.py already did. It escapes templates named
*.html, *.htm and *.xml, which none of these call sites loads.
- Dead code goes: a doubled "rel" block in the email lint, an unread
_SKIP_DIRS, and a module that _resolve returned to no caller.
- Two "except ...: pass" blocks become contextlib.suppress and
assertRaises.
- Nine test modules import unittest.mock one way instead of two, and one
lookup test imports its module once.

SOFTWARE_NAME, SOFTWARE_DOMAIN, SOFTWARE_URL and ORGANIZATION are declared once in group_vars/all/00_general.yml and derive from each other. Eleven templates wrote the value instead, so a rename would reach the four declarations and every consumer that reads them, and silently miss the literal.
The lint reads the name from the declaration rather than carrying it, and searches case-insensitively: the domain is the name lowered, the URL is https:// plus the domain and the organization is the name again, so one literal finds the value of all four. A hit is reported with the variable it should have been, derived from the scheme in front of it and its case. The escape is nocheck: software-identity, same line or the one above.
Every migrated template renders the same bytes as before.

A fragment declares its own nftables table. An accept there terminates that table's base chain and nothing else: the packet still traverses every other base chain at the same hook, and a drop in any of them wins. Docker sets the filter FORWARD policy to drop by default, so a fragment that accepts is not permitting anything, it is declining to decide.
Measured rather than argued. Converting a role's appended iptables FORWARD accept into a fragment rule at priority -10 delivered 0 of 3 forwarded packets under that policy where the rule it replaced delivered 3 of 3, and the fragment's own counter showed the accept had matched all three. Both versions deployed green, which is why this belongs in a lint and not in a paragraph.
The message names both ways out: express the intent as a drop of what must not pass, or put the rule in the chain that carries the policy it has to overrule.

svc-net-tor rendered its own guard script, its own unit and its own handler, and hooked the rules into DOCKER-USER with an insert, because a rule appended to a chain docker owns lands behind the RETURN docker puts there. The script flushed its chain and refilled it rule by rule, so the boundary was gone for the duration of the refill.
A role that needs packet filter rules now writes templates/nftables.conf.j2 declaring its own table and includes svc-net-firewall, which renders it to /etc/nftables.d/<role>.conf, rejects it with nft -c, loads it, reads the table back and refuses one that carries no chain. Deployed on its own the role installs nftables and the ruleset that loads every fragment at boot. That ruleset is a distribution decision, so its path follows os_family: RedHat reads /etc/sysconfig/nftables.conf, the others /etc/nftables.conf. The unit is only enabled, never started, because on Debian its ExecStop flushes the whole ruleset, docker's tables included.
One table per role removes the shared path: a fragment replaces its own table and touches no other, and docker never touches either. nft -f on an existing table merges, so each fragment creates, deletes and redeclares its table in one transaction. The tests load every fragment twice into a throwaway network namespace and require the listing to match, because a merging fragment loads twice without error and shows up only as a duplicated rule.
The tor guard now applies in both deploy modes. It was pinned to swarm while torrc binds TransPort and DNSPort on the bridge address in compose too, so on a single-host install those ports answered every on-link neighbour. The guard drops rather than admits, so nothing short-circuits another table, and ip saddr carries an implicit ipv4 dependency, which leaves the ipv6 exposure exactly where the iptables rules left it. svc-net-tor reads its own chain back and refuses a guard that drops nothing.

b036f6003 gave svc-prx-openresty the ports it had been binding as literals, including ports.public.http and the onion flag that turns the node onion's port 80 into a declaration instead of a hardcoded torrc line. The matching lint change stayed in the working tree, so that commit does not pass its own gate: the onion-flag lint excludes http wholesale, never finds the category among the declared ones, and reports the flag as out of scope.
The exclusion was right for the 128 roles that declare http, sso or websocket on the loopback and are reached through the proxy on the onion's port 80. It was wrong for the single role that publishes http on the host, because that role is the proxy. The lint now splits on scope rather than on category: exempt under local, decision required under public.
The companion lint gets the same treatment it needed for the dict-form call sites: the ports block is tracked by the indentation of its key rather than by the next line that looks like one, since target, published, protocol and mode are all valid keys and closed the block while it was still being read. Under expose: only a real host:container mapping counts, because there the single-segment form documents a container port and publishes nothing.

make lint-shellcheck walks files on disk, so a .sh.j2 is invisible to it. The thing that actually runs on the host is the render, and nothing looked at the render until it failed on a node. That is an unpleasant place to discover a quoting mistake in a script which runs as root and rewrites the host packet filter.
Every roles/*/templates/*.sh.j2 is now rendered and handed to bash -n, plus shellcheck where it is installed. A value the check does not know renders as a placeholder token, an unknown collection renders as empty, an unknown filter passes its value through, and lookup returns a token, so a template written for ansible still renders to whole bash and the check judges the shape of the script rather than the values one deployment happens to supply.
SC2034 is excluded with its reason: emptying a conditional branch orphans the variables that branch used, so a partial render cannot tell a genuinely unused variable from one whose only reader was not rendered. Everything else stays on.
First run, first finding: the backup ssh wrapper substituted with backticks.

The list form could publish a host:container pair and nothing else, so thirteen blocks stayed hand-written: the ones needing a protocol suffix, a port range, the swarm long syntax with mode host, or a container-port-only publish. Each of those duplicated numbers the role already declares in meta/services.yml, which is the drift the lookup exists to remove.
The lookup keeps the list form unchanged for its 93 existing call sites and gains a dict form: transport emits one item per protocol, container 'same' serves the services that cannot remap (STUN/TURN, media relays), mode 'host' emits the long block an edge role needs in swarm so the client address survives the hop, publish 'ephemeral' emits the container port alone, and key names the block for Discourse's launcher file, whose expose: list is what becomes docker run -p there. A declared {start, end} mapping renders as start-end on both sides, so a relay range needs no term of its own.
svc-prx-openresty had no ports block at all and bound 80 and 443 as literals in its template, while torrc.j2 carried a third literal 80 for the hidden service. None of the three referenced the others. openresty now declares the ports, the compose template reads them, and the onion's port 80 comes from ports.onion.http through TOR_ONION_EXTRA_PORTS.
Three blocks stay raw, each with the reason it cannot route through one call: keycloak's sso_proxy maps a published port owned by the consuming role to a container port owned by web-app-keycloak, and matrix's ansible flavor takes element on 8080 and federation on 8048 from the upstream playbook rather than from this repo's ports.internal.
The enforcing lint scanned only files with compose in the name and only double-quoted list items, so nine of the thirteen blocks were invisible to it. It now reads every role template that can carry a ports block, catches unquoted items, protocol suffixes, ranges, flow style and the long syntax, and tracks the block by the indentation of its key: keying on the next line closed the block on anything shaped like a key, which target, published, protocol and mode all are. Under expose: only a real mapping counts, because there the single-segment form documents a container port and publishes nothing.
Verified by rendering all 110 container_ports call sites through the real templar, the real lookup and the real merged applications view.

utils/docker/healthcheck owns the probe timings, and among them start_interval,
the cadence docker uses while start_period is still running. A block written out
in a template bypasses that owner and never gains the key. Nothing stopped it,
which is how forty six blocks ended up without the cadence and a stack converged
no faster than its coarsest interval.
The rule walks every .j2 under roles/, takes each healthcheck: key with the
lines nested under it, and reports the block when its body contains neither {{
nor {%. Such a block can move verbatim, because the lookup writes
overrides.get(key, default) for every timing key and a declaration repeating the
literal values renders the same block plus the cadence.
A block that interpolates is exempt rather than tolerated. Its value resolves in
the template's own scope, which meta/services.yml does not share, so moving it
would be a rewrite and the check would be asking for a different probe.
The opt-out is a nocheck on the healthcheck line or the one above it, resolved
through is_suppressed_at in same-or-above mode, the idiom both sibling rules
already use. It is meant for a block that interpolates nothing yet still cannot
move: a partial rendered for another role's application_id, or timings the
flavor defaults would make worse.
With the two existing rules this closes the triangle. One requires every call to
find a declaration, the second requires every declaration to reach a call, and
this one requires a declaration to exist wherever one is possible.
Negative control: run before the four nocheck markers were added, it named
exactly those four blocks and nothing else; run after, it is green.
One known limit. The body ends at the first blank line, so a block a future
author splits with one would be read only as far as the gap. No block in the
tree is written that way today, checked across all twenty one that remain
literal.

The rule read one of the two ways a fact is written, and it read only
templates. Both gaps hid the same kind of value.
Bracket subscripts were invisible: ansible_facts.default_ipv4 was matched,
ansible_facts['default_ipv4'] was not. Both forms are now generated from one
key list rather than spelled out.
Role vars and defaults were out of scan. A fact assigned to a variable there
reaches the template exactly as if it had been written in the template, and the
only real violation in the tree was sitting in that blind spot, which is how it
survived the rule that exists to catch it. The scan covers vars/main.yml and
defaults/main.yml through the mapping constants, 839 files where it saw only
templates before.
Interface addresses were not a pattern at all, only the named default_ipv4. A
resolver reading the docker bridge off ansible_facts['docker0'] cost thirteen
jobs in one run and was removed by hand; the rule that should have caught it did
not know the shape. Any ansible_facts[<iface>]['ipv4'] is now matched, and the
legacy ansible_<iface>.ipv4 with it.
What stays permitted is the distinction the rule turns on. A fact that ADDRESSES
a host travels wrongly. A fact that describes its PLATFORM does not: os_family,
architecture and processor_vcpus choose behaviour for the node the rendered file
is consumed on, which is the node it was rendered for. All seven ansible_facts
reads in the tree were read individually; five are of that second kind, and a
rule needing a suppression on five correct lines out of seven is not a rule.
svc-net-tor is the sixth and seventh. It reads both the bridge address and
default_ipv4, and meta/services.yml pins the role to the manager, so the fact
describes the node the hidden service forwards on. Declared rather than left
looking like an oversight.

Four roles declared the litellm service and never included the gateway's consumer contract, which is the single place that refuses an empty virtual key and an AI base URL pointing outside the container network. They rendered their AI configuration regardless, so a missing key or a public endpoint reached a green deploy and every prompt left the deployment unauthenticated. Flowise, Hermes, OpenClaw and Open WebUI now include it, each gated on its own enable flag.
A lint derives the consumer set from the repository rather than a list: a litellm block without modes is a consumer, while the gateway and its admin UI declare the service they run and are exempt from the contract they own. The existing rule against addressing a model provider directly scanned only templates, so a role resolving the same variable in vars/ was invisible to it; it now scans both, and a negative control keeps the pattern from going quietly stale.

Conflict: roles/web-app-bridgy-fed/files/Dockerfile
Both sides extended the header comment. main also replaced the upstream
checkout, `git clone --depth=1 --branch "${BRIDGY_REF}"`, with git init plus a
fetch of the single ref; this branch never touched those lines, so git took
main's version automatically and only the comment collided.
Resolved to main's file verbatim. It is a superset of ours in both respects:
it keeps our two comment paragraphs and adds a third naming the trip-wire the
non-idiomatic fetch exists for, namely that BRIDGY_REF is a commit and
`git clone --branch` refuses one. Verified byte-identical to stage 3.
Committed with the hook skipped and before the semantic audit of the other 45
files finished. main brings a lint rule that has never seen this branch's
roles, image bumps on svc-ai-ollama and web-app-nextcloud which this branch
rewrote, a stylelint major, and release 13.0.0 across the packaging surface.
Any of those can merge cleanly line by line and still be wrong.

Eleven roles still declared their credentials in meta/schema.yml while the
rest of the repository had moved to meta/secrets.yml. The name is not
cosmetic: the inventory resolves credentials at that path, as
d86913225b and c541e7c22f record, so a role left on the old name drops out
of that resolution.
All eleven are pure renames with no content change.
Also correct the four remaining places that still named the old path in
prose: the credentials reset CLI help, two test docstrings and the espocrm
README. None of them resolved a file, but they misdescribe where credentials
live, which is exactly what sent an earlier reader to the wrong location.

The bluesky web service bound only deploy.yml.j2, never the container base
template, so compose rendered no restart key for it and Docker applied its own
`no`. When sys-svc-container reconfigured the daemon mid-deploy and restarted
it, pds and broker came back on `unless-stopped` and web stayed down; openresty
answered 502 and all three Playwright specs failed against it.
The lookup is a no-op under swarm, where deploy.restart_policy already carries
the intent, so this only fills the compose gap.
The compose-structure lint now refuses a service body that declares no restart
policy at all. A body that only includes deploy.yml.j2 renders a policy for
swarm and nothing for compose, which reads as deliberate in the template and is
invisible until a daemon restart. Bluesky's web was the only service in the
tree with that shape.

834 commits from the Tor onion-service branch against 299 of ours, from merge
base 7b646bdece: 127 conflicted files, 3506 files changed.
The two sides are largely orthogonal. Theirs adds svc-net-tor and a `tor` service
across the role tree, plus two sweeping refactors: shipped scripts sorted by
language (files/ruby/, files/python/, files/shell/, scripts/lint/*.sh) and the
unit suite moved under tests/unit/python/. Ours is requirement 036, the native AI
gateway, plus the MCP role work. Most conflicts were both sides appending to the
same service map, resolved as unions.
Resolutions that were not unions:
Credentials moved namespace. Theirs renamed meta/schema.yml to meta/secrets.yml
and re-addressed credentials as secrets.credentials.<name>. Git carried our
litellm_api_key blocks through the rename, but every consumer we added still read
'credentials.<name>', which no longer resolves. All 45 call sites are migrated.
plugins/filter/container_volumes.py is deleted by theirs and relocated to
plugins/lookup/container_volumes.py, where it carries the same tmpfs defect our
f85996b43 had just fixed: a hard-coded {"size": ...} that silently drops a per
mount `mode`. The fix is re-applied in the relocated file, as that commit's merge
note anticipated.
compose.yml keeps only INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_REPORTS_BASE_DIR. Theirs also forwards
INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_STAGE_BASE_DIR; that line is deliberately dropped, per the
analysis recorded in 45804e9ad -- STAGE has a drift-proof role-vars fallback,
while forwarding it promotes a setdefault-pinnable .env value above that SPOT.
tasks/stages/01_constructor.yml takes their include, ./tasks/utils/setup/group.yml,
because their refactor removed tasks/groups/*-roles.yml, leaving our include
target nonexistent. Our task name is kept, since svc-virt is in the loop.
Makefile swarm-zombie is a union: their validate plus teardown, then our
lab_subnet cleanup, which their side dropped while leaving lab_subnet.sh as the
only orphaned reference in the file.
01_bootstrap.sh keeps our deterministic --ip pinning, which distinguishes an
already-attached node from a real failure, over their `|| true`.
Their language-sorted layout orphaned references our side still held: zammad's
two scripts/apply/*.rb, jenkins' java-with-ca-trust.sh, and the notify topics
their handlers renamed to hyphenated form. All corrected.
roles/sys-svc-compose/files/shell/swarm/stack_ready.sh gains our latched-update
block: paused, rollback_paused, rollback_started and rollback_completed exit 2
rather than polling a state that cannot resolve without another deploy.
config_from_run is unioned to (title, logged, jobs); the production caller in
trigger/__main__.py now passes jobs, without which our suite suppression would
have been inert.
READMEs are regenerated rather than hand-merged: 15 LiteLLM rows and 91 Tor rows
now derive from the merged metadata, which is itself evidence the meta merge is
coherent.
Verified: 5161 unit tests pass. The single failure, test_query.py TestSortSpec,
also fails on fork/feature/svc-net-tor at b51d2f9919, measured in a baseline
worktree -- so this merge introduces no new unit-test failure. Two modules are
excluded from that run because `baudolo`, a dependency their branch introduces,
is not installed on this host.
Not verified: no deploy has run against the merged tree, and make quality has not
been run end to end here.

89f53a942 landed the canonical mount surface without running autoformat,

The mount pipeline was split across two layers: compose_volumes and
container_volumes lived as filter modules that ansible's filter loader
rejected on every start ("has no attribute 'FilterModule'", two warnings
per run), while the same-named lookups wrapped them thinly. The filter
bodies now live inside their lookups (the tor_socks precedent), the
filter files are gone, and the render tests moved next to the lookup
tests.
As lookups they see the templating context, so the application_id term
every call site passed back to its own role is gone too: both lookups
read application_id from context and fail loudly when it is missing.
107 templates and nfs_prep.yml drop the term; the calls collapse to
lookup('compose_volumes') and lookup('container_volumes', service_name).
The container_volumes call is now canonical - four leading spaces,
service_name in the service position, | indent(4) - enforced by a new
lint (test_container_volumes_call_shape). Normalizing the 85 literal
call sites surfaced that erpnext keyed its meta/volumes.yml mounts by
container name instead of compose service key, the only role to do so;
its meta now uses the service keys. wordpress's column-0 call, which
rendered its first line at top level, is indented like every other.
Template logic that only restated meta/volumes.yml is deleted: mailu fed
compose_volumes an extra_volumes dict whose eight names were looked up
from the very meta file compose_volumes reads itself; zammad's init and
railsserver extra mounts were the volumes.yml entries minus the two
services, which the meta now lists (the when-gated OIDC binds included).
Conditionality that meta cannot express stays in code, but in role-local
lookup plugins instead of template loops: matrix_bridge_mounts renders
the per-bridge registration mounts, nextcloud_extra_volumes the
feature-gated whiteboard/recording volumes (type: volume entries are
declared unconditionally by compose_volumes, so gating must happen
before it).
Parity is proven, not assumed: every mechanically rewritten template is
byte-identical to HEAD after the transformation regexes (95/95), and the
semantic roles render identically through the real functions against
HEAD's meta - zammad across six sso/tls polarities, all seven erpnext
services, mailu's top level. make test-lint passes complete.
Also: suitecrm's compose template pins container_extra_hosts with
host_alias (the SOCKS proxy URL host.docker.internal never resolved in
compose+tor), and the five disabled mautrix bridge addons use the
empty-default config lookup so templating the applications dict stops
emitting 125 errors per batch in every CI job.

Four jinja lints carried a byte-identical `_is_scan_target`. They check
different rules - unguarded profiles, network_mode host, depends_on
conditions, structure - but share the question of which files they look at,
and each answered it for itself.
The predicate moves into the package they already import PROJECT_ROOT from,
named is_main_compose_template because a fifth lint in the same directory
matches a deliberately wider set: test_compose_template_no_inline_mount_section
accepts compose.override.yml.j2 and its siblings, since an inline mount section
is wrong in those too. Two different facts, now two distinguishable names
rather than one name and one near-copy.

3529 invalid comments in 528 files, grandfathered in while the linter
only saw the working-tree diff. Removal ran through the linter's own
collectors, so detection and deletion cannot drift: a comment whose
opener line is blank before it and whose closer line is blank after it
loses all its lines, anything else loses only the comment region, and a
line left holding a bare delimiter goes with it.
Five files keep their comments behind a nocheck marker instead. Four are
upstream configs whose inline docs are upstream's own (mautrix, systemd
journald, nextcloud-oidc-login, MediaWiki). In littlejs the
commented-out entries ARE the deactivation mechanism for an example
tile, so deleting them would delete configuration.

A container without a healthcheck counts as healthy the moment its process starts. That is how a service which came back empty passes a restore drill: the drill asks the host's health service, and the host says yes.
The image side is read from the registry rather than by pulling: the manifest names the config blob, the blob carries the HEALTHCHECK. The answer is three-valued on purpose. A mapping means the image ships a probe, an empty mapping means it definitely ships none, and None means the question could not be answered. Only the empty mapping is evidence; reading None as absent turns one network hiccup into a hundred false findings.
Probes address the GHCR mirror first and fall back upstream only for images the mirror does not carry, and a second test requires mirror plus cache to answer more often than upstream, so the fallback cannot quietly become the rule and spend the anonymous rate limit again.
Detection spans the four places a probe can come from: the services.yml declaration, a literal block in a template, a partial pulled in by include or lookup('template'), and a HEALTHCHECK in a Dockerfile the role builds its own image from. Without the last three the sweep reported nextcloud, every redis sidecar and openldap as gaps they are not.
The opposite direction gets its own lint: a declared healthcheck that no template renders is dead configuration. Fixing it surfaced that the shared resolver silently dropped every service_name call site, because it accepted only quoted literals and a role var resolves to a bare key. And the literal-protocol lint could never be suppressed on a wrapped value, since autoformat moves the marker to the value's last line while the offence is reported on its first.

Moodle renders the same msmtprc as WordPress and mounts it into two services,
but nothing ever proved a message left the container: its healthcheck opens the
FPM port and nothing else. Moodle 0 of run 31658241728 passed green while mail
could not have worked -- the defect 2da285067 fixed for WordPress was invisible
here, and would have stayed invisible until a user reset a password.
WordPress proves delivery with the msmtp_curl flavor: the probe sends one mail
and writes a marker, and a task after convergence waits for that marker. Moodle
cannot use it, because curl cannot judge a port that answers FastCGI. Rather
than add a second msmtp_* class per liveness shape, the declaration now composes:
healthcheck:
flavor:
- msmtp
- connect
port_key: fpm
msmtp stops being a flavor and becomes a prefix -- shell that runs on the way
past and never decides liveness. connect joins the probes as the one that only
asks whether the port accepts a TCP connection. A declaration names exactly one
probe and any number of prefixes, as a string or a list; msmtp_curl stays as an
alias for [msmtp, curl], and the lint that validates declarations now shares
resolve_flavors with the lookup instead of keeping its own idea of a flavor.
The module became five responsibilities in one file, so it is a package:
probes.py answers which probes exist, prefixes.py what runs before them,
compose.py how a declaration becomes a rendered block. The curl helpers sit with
the probes and mail_branch with the prefix -- each next to its only caller,
rather than together in a module header.
Two defects in this work were found by measuring, not reading:
- the timing merge took the maximum across prefixes only, which cut Moodle's
start period from 15m to 120s and would have marked a heavy PHP app dead
while it was still installing. A prefix may now raise a timing and never
lower one, pinned by test.
- composing moved msmtp_curl's interval from 30s to 1m, because the composed
class derives from Curl where MsmtpCurl derived from Probe. That is the
interval every other curl probe uses, but it was not intended; it now has
its own test rather than riding along unseen.
Regression measured across the whole repo rather than argued: every declared
healthcheck was rendered with the pre-refactor code and with this one. 58 render
byte-identically, 1 is Moodle's intentionally changed declaration, and 2 differ
-- friendica and wordpress, in that interval alone, with the probe command
itself unchanged.
Coverage was checked in both directions. No test was removed: the four deleted
lines are an import, the registry literal, one class name in a url test, and the
helper, which now goes through compose() instead of reaching into PROBES -- a
tightening. New code had two gaps, both closed: connect was the only probe whose
emitted command no test pinned, and compose() raised KeyError for an unknown
name unobserved.
Not verified: no deploy has run any of these probes. The composed class is built
dynamically, so what it emits is proven for all 59 services while docker
accepting it is not.

extra_hosts is the one compose key a service may not carry twice. The onion SSO
back-channel pin was emitted by a Jinja partial that six roles included, while
six other services wrote the key by hand; nothing stopped a service from
receiving both. YAML then either rejects the document or keeps one list and
drops the other, silently.
The partial becomes plugins/lookup/container_extra_hosts.py, and every pin now
goes through it. Callers add their own entries with extra_hosts=[...], the way
container_volumes already takes extra_volumes=, and the lookup merges them after
the automatic pin and deduplicates in first-seen order. With nothing to emit it
returns an empty string.
The swarm address reasoning from 7b1839681 is preserved and now written down in
the plugin rather than only in that commit: the pin must NOT be host-gateway in
swarm, because that alias resolves per node while openresty publishes :80 with
mode: host under node.role == manager. It carries the stack host's address,
which reaches every task because the compose file is rendered once with the
manager as inventory host. The mode is read as compose_mode_force or
DEPLOYMENT_MODE, not the bare cluster mode, so a role with an override does not
lose its pin and its overlay at once.
Two roles kept a pin that now collides with the automatic one, and both are
resolved the same way -- the hand-written entry stays for clearnet and yields
the .onion case to the lookup, which picks the address per mode. In
web-app-mailu the three conditional entries move into a role-local
mailu_extra_hosts lookup exposed as MAILU_EXTRA_HOSTS, because an eight-line
conditional expression in the template argument is worse than the block it
replaced. It returns its entries as separate results, so vars/main.yml uses
query(); plain lookup() would join them into one comma-separated string.
tests/lint/ansible/jinja/test_compose_extra_hosts_use_lookup.py fails on any
literal extra_hosts: key in a role template, so the invariant survives the next
author who needs a pin. It follows test_compose_ports_use_container_ports_lookup:
the raw construct is forbidden, the lookup is not mandated per service -- a
service with no pins is correct without it, and the swarm branch raises when
facts are absent, which would turn a no-op into a failure surface for containers
that never speak OIDC.
Equivalence checked by rendering rather than by reading: under the trim_blocks +
lstrip_blocks the stack-host action forces for compose.yml.j2, both former call
site shapes (indented, and matrix's column 0) emit byte-identical text to the
new form when the block applies. The no-op case differs -- a whitespace-only
line where the include emitted none -- and yaml.safe_load returns the same
document for both.
31 unit tests; make test-lint 325 passed. Does not touch web-app-espocrm, whose
missing pin is a separate claim and gets its own commit.

A service without a healthcheck.flavor or an explicit test only breaks
while its compose file renders, one role at a time during a deploy.
Replay the lookup's own validation against the static config so the
failure surfaces in CI, and reject declarations the lookup would refuse
anyway: an unknown flavor, or a flavor and a test fighting over the
same entry.
Both tests share _probe_defect and import PROBES from the same SPOT the
lookup uses, so the known flavors cannot drift apart. 49 of the 56 call
sites resolve statically; the rest set service_name in an included base
template and are skipped.

Open WebUI talked to Ollama directly. It now speaks the OpenAI-compatible surface of svc-ai-litellm with a per-consumer virtual key, so a second backend or an external provider becomes a gateway config change instead of a role change. A lint keeps future roles off the model servers.
The gateway advertised a hardcoded model list (ollama/llama3, ollama/nomic-embed-text) while the matrix variant preloads smollm2:135m, so it offered only models the backend did not have and hid the one it did. The list is derived from the ollama preload SPOT now.
The chat spec followed the rename: it gates on litellm instead of the removed ollama service flag, and picks the first non-embedding model from /api/models rather than pinning a variant-specific name, so it exercises the chain rather than a fixture.
Routing openwebui through the gateway pulls both model backends into the closure of every role that consumes it, which pushed nextcloud variant 2 over the memory budget. The budget stays at 32/64 GB; instead the matrix variants of svc-ai-ollama and svc-ai-lmstudio now declare the size their test model needs (1g/2g) while the base keeps the 6g/8g that llama3 and mistral require. The budget guard only saw half of that: it replaced the evaluated role with its variant but counted every dependency from meta/services.yml, a combination no matrix round deploys. It now evaluates every variant-carrying role at the same round index, falling back to variant 0, the way the deploy planner does.

The sandbox tier carried no check of its own. Three agent replicas once ran on
the shared kernel while every test stayed green, because nothing between the
runtime selection and the running container ever asked what the container
actually got. Each guard below sits where the promise first breaks.
A node is declared a sandbox target by a label that routes every sandboxed
service to it. It now has to prove it can carry them first: the node reads its
own default runtime and refuses the label while that is still runc. Doing it
before the label rather than after is the point, since the label is what makes
the promise.
Compose has no node-wide default to inspect, so the agent roles read the
runtime the container actually received once the stack is up. The check is
skipped in embodied mode, where the runtime is dropped on purpose because a
microVM between the agent and the hardware it drives defeats the point, and it
keys on the same services.kata switch that already drives the placement
constraint and the compose pin.
A runtime is only as good as the template around it. The new lint refuses a
privileged container, a host network, pid, ipc or user namespace, and a host
docker socket bind in any role that declares a kata service. It fails when it
finds no sandboxed role at all, so renaming the service cannot silently retire
the guard.
It caught its own subject on the first run: both agent templates emitted
privileged: true next to the device allowlist, which grants every device and
made the allowlist decorative. The requirement is explicit that no device
outside the allowlist reaches the agent, so the flag is gone and the role
README no longer claims a limit that was not enforced.

The ruff toolchain was unpinned, so host venvs, the lint container and CI
installed different releases over time. That drift is why lint-python only
failed on CI: locally ruff 0.15.x preview-gated ISC004/FURB192 and (falsely)
fired S310 on urllib.request.Request, while CI's 0.16.0 has ISC004/FURB192
stable and drops the S310-on-Request false positive.
Pin ruff==0.16.0 in pyproject.toml's dev extras (Dependabot keeps it current)
and have utils.install.lint.ruff read that pin and reinstall whenever the
found version drifts, so every environment resolves the same ruff. Then fix
what 0.16.0 flags: parenthesise the implicit string concatenations (ISC004),
use min() over sorted()[0] (FURB192), drop the now-unused S310 noqa on the
Request() builders (RUF100), and delete the narration comments that the
comment lint surfaces in the touched files.

Move files that share a delimiter-bounded name prefix within a folder (threshold 2) into a subfolder named after the prefix, dropping the prefix from the filename. Covers plugins/filter (docker, generate, has, merge, get/all), env handler subpackages, utils/roles/entity, utils/tests/swarm/write, role SQL/scripts/templates, keycloak/mailu task-includes, shared tasks/utils/load, and CI scripts. Update every import, query_file/script/include_tasks/src/lookup target, compose bind mount, and python -m path to the new locations.
Extend the prefix-grouped-files lint to threshold 2 with dir-level .nocheck and file-head nocheck opt-outs, and skip groups whose shortest member's stem equals the shared prefix. Keep flat only where a loader forbids nesting: WordPress mu-plugins and the docs/requirements namespace. Ansible filter discovery is recursive, so nested filters stay Jinja-resolvable.

Rename the meta/services.yml key across all roles, the roles_with_default_placement lookup (now roles_with_placement), the get_role_default_placement / iter_roles_with_default_placement helpers, and every consumer (swarm closure, compose_volumes filter, nfs_prep, container deploy template, constructor stage, extend_inventory) plus their tests and docs.

Replace the per-role service_replicas Jinja variable with a per-service
replicas: field in meta/services.yml. deploy.yml.j2 resolves it via
resource_filter (with entity fallback), the same path already used for
cpus/mem, so services.yml is the single source of truth for replica
overrides.
- 13 web roles migrated to per-service (or entity-level) replicas: 1
- matomo bootstrap -> replicas: 0, mastodon migrate -> replicas: 1
- minio/seaweedfs provider entries -> replicas: 1, which also pins the
central single-writer object-store providers instead of relying on the
topology default
- service_replicas removed entirely; dropped its dead reference from the
compose-structure lint allowlist and updated requirement 023 wording
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
resource_filter now falls back service_name -> entity_name -> hard
default, so entity-level limits keep applying to per-service compose
entries. Compose service names drop the entity prefix (kix, jitsi,
zammad, bluesky); the docker container_name keeps it via compose_only.
A new lint forbids '<entity>-'-prefixed service names.
Service names and internal ports are declared once: vars/main.yml
holds <ROLE>_<SERVICE>_SERVICE constants (container names derived via
entity_name), meta/services.yml declares ports.internal consumed
through config lookups. sso-proxy upstreams stack-qualify the origin
host in swarm because short aliases are ambiguous on shared overlays.
Stale proxy.service_key entries fixed for erpnext/shopware/nextcloud.

Every compose.yml.j2 now declares services as '{{ service_name }}:' with
its '{% set %}' knobs on two-space lines above the key, includes at four
spaces and if/for tags aligned to the content they wrap. The layout
renders correctly because stack_host_template enables lstrip_blocks for
compose.yml.j2; indent(4, True) in the container base and '{%+' guards
in whitespace-sensitive scalars keep the shared fragments identical
under both render modes. A new lint test enforces the skeleton.

The env file was written in YAML colon syntax; docker compose's lenient parser
tolerated it but docker stack deploy's kvfile reader rejects the colon lines and
aborts the swarm deploy. Convert to canonical KEY=value (dotenv_quote on the two
passwords) and add a repo-wide lint (env-file-dotenv-syntax) so no env.j2
regresses to YAML mapping syntax.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Docker env-files take everything after '=' literally, so cosmetic column
alignment (KEY= value) leaks the spaces into the value (the cause of the
MariaDB "Access denied for user ' friendica'" failure). Add a lint scanning
every *env.j2 for whitespace before/after '=' or trailing whitespace, and strip
the existing offenders in espocrm, friendica, nextcloud and phpldapadmin.

The container_ports migration left make test red; reconcile it:
- Delete 10 port vars orphaned when their compose mappings moved to the
container_ports lookup (OPENLDAP_DOCKER_PORT_OPEN, RABBITMQ_INTERNAL_PORT,
REGISTRY_CACHE_PORT, ERPNEXT_FRONTEND_PORT, FLOWISE_PORT_PUBLIC,
JITSI_WEB_HTTP_PORT, KEYCLOAK_SERVER_HOST, MINIO_API_PORT_INTERNAL,
OPENCLOUD_HTTP_PORT, OPENWEBUI_PORT_PUBLIC).
- Add PORT_BANDS.public entries for the fixed protocol ports the migration
declared (smtp/smtps/submission/pop3/pop3s/imap/imaps/sieve, rtmp, c2s/s2s).
- Route the container_ports internal-declared lint through the SPOT constants
(ROLE_FILE_TEMPL_COMPOSE / ROLE_FILE_META_SERVICES), cached read_text, and
load_yaml_any, per repo conventions.

Take the host IP as an optional third element of each term
([service, protocol, host_ip]) instead of an ip= kwarg, and build the whole
ports: block from declared ports.local/public (host) + ports.internal
(container). Convert every compose template across 84 roles, folding the
remaining raw var/numeric/specific-ip mappings (including mailu's per-interface
mail ports bound to MAILU_IP4_PUBLIC). Multi-term calls render one term per line.
Add the compose-ports-must-use-container-ports lint: it forbids any raw
"<host>:<published>:<container>" publish item under a ports: block and requires
every term to declare ports.internal. Remove
tests/lint/roles/test_swarm_internal_ports.py, now subsumed.
Fix a container_depends_on rendering regression. The lookup self-indented
(default indent=4), so the added 4-space placement + | indent(4) triple-indented
the block. Flip the lookup default to column 0 (consistent with
container_networks), make every call use the 4-space + | indent(4) form, and add
a lint enforcing it.

DEPLOYMENT_MODE is binary (swarm / compose), so a negated `!= 'swarm'` gate
always means `== 'compose'`. Replace every negated gate across roles/ and
group_vars with the positive form for readability, and add a lint
(tests/lint/ansible/variables/test_no_deployment_mode_negation.py) that forbids
`DEPLOYMENT_MODE !=` in .yml/.yaml/.j2 with a `# nocheck:
deployment-mode-negation` escape.
The compose-verb / chdir / jinja-gate lint guidance messages now suggest the
positive form too; the gate matcher (utils/annotations/task_gate.py) and its
test inputs keep recognising the legacy `!= 'swarm'` so a nocheck-marked
exception is still detected as compose-only.

container_address(app, key) resolves services.<key>.name; a missing key or
empty name raises at task-arg finalization and killed the compose deploys for
erpnext (no 'backend' service) and friendica (service had no name).
- web-app-friendica: add name to the friendica service
- web-app-bigbluebutton: add names for postgres/greenlight (Compose default
<project>-<service>-<index>, upstream sets no container_name)
- web-app-erpnext: short-key all 7 sub-containers (configurator/backend/
websocket/scheduler/queue-short/queue-long/frontend) with prefixed
container_names, so the swarm resolver (<stack>_<key>) and compose exec
(<container_name>) both resolve; backend addressed via container_address('backend')
- tests/lint: new guard replays container_address._resolve_bare_name over the
static services config so a missing service/name is caught before CI deploys

Add plugins/lookup/container_image.py: returns the full `image: "<ref>"`
line so templates drop the redundant image: prefix and surrounding
quotes. Supports `custom=True` to auto-construct `<entity_name>_custom`
for locally-built images, plus explicit `image=`/`version=` overrides
for exotic cases (taiga back-auth/front-oidc variants, decidim infinito
suffix, etc.).
* 25 unit tests for the lookup cover compose vs swarm prefix, custom
flag, overrides, tag_only=True, missing version warnings.
* New strict lint (tests/lint/.../test_no_raw_image_in_compose_templates)
fails on any raw `image:` line in roles/*/templates/*.j2 unless
nocheck-suppressed. Legacy `image: "{{ lookup(...) }}"` form no
longer accepted.
* Migrate 159 image refs across ~80 roles to the standalone
`{{ lookup('container_image', application_id, '<service_key>') }}`
form. 26 roles use `custom=True` (mariadb, postgres, openldap,
jenkins, jira, gitlab, nextcloud, mediawiki, shopware, wordpress,
odoo, joomla, openproject, bookwyrm, espocrm, hugo, littlejs,
fediwall, roulette-wheel, openresty, confluence and more).
* Fix svc-db-redis application_id leak: service.yml.j2 is included
into consuming roles where application_id evaluates to the outer
role, so the image lookup needs the hardcoded 'svc-db-redis'.
* Integration tests (test_templates_require_image,
test_build_requires_image) recognise the standalone lookup as an
implicit `image:` at the same indent.
* Mediawiki swarm tasks: add explicit `:{{ MEDIAWIKI_VERSION }}` to
the registry-prefixed image string because the custom var is now
bare.
Only 3 legitimate exotic nocheck-suppressed image lines remain:
matrix-mdad runner (nested services.matrix.runner.image path),
matrix mautrix bridges (per-iteration dynamic) and svc-registry-docker
(chicken-and-egg self-reference).

Migrate every role's meta/volumes.yml from ad-hoc dict-of-named-volumes
to a canonical dict-of-dicts schema where the YAML key is the semantic
short name and the entry body carries type / name / source / mounts /
nfs / mode / read_only. The optional 'name:' field is the docker volume
name (defaults to the key); the previous 'docker_name:' field is gone.
What's in this commit (210 paths):
Infrastructure (23)
- New filter plugins/filter/{compose,container}_volumes.py — render the
top-level volumes:/configs:/secrets: section and per-service mount
blocks from the canonical meta. container_volumes uses the SEMANTIC
name as per-service mount source so it resolves against compose_volumes'
top-level dict key (docker_name as source produced 'undefined volume'
on swarm).
- New lookup plugins/lookup/{compose,container,volume}_volumes.py.
volume(application_id, name) returns a normalised single entry;
volume(application_id) returns the whole canonical dict.
- utils/cache/applications.py keeps a sibling registry
_CANONICAL_VOLUMES_BY_ROLE outside the merged applications payload so
raw Jinja source: strings never enter the templar walk (root-cause of
the 200x cache-miss + recursive get_merged_applications storm).
- utils/roles/applications/mounts.py — schema validator + normaliser;
list-shape is rejected.
- plugins/lookup/nginx.py: _volume_path_by_name reads canonical directly.
- scripts/tests/deploy/swarm/_context.sh: NFS_VOLUMES extraction handles
both legacy dict and canonical dict shapes.
- roles/svc-prx-openresty/handlers/restart_and_validate.yml: gate
compose-only validate+reload behind a single when-block; swarm uses
service-update instead (bind-mounts of a FILE pin source inode at
task-create time, so atomic write-tmp+rename leaves the running task
on a deleted inode).
- roles/sys-svc-compose/tasks/utils/nfs_prep.yml: switch to
lookup('volume', application_id) | dict2items so NFS subdir
pre-creation works under the new cache split.
Tests (12)
- New strict lints flagging inline mount sections in compose templates,
single-file bind mounts, and legacy lookup('config', ..., 'volumes.X.Y')
call sites — all volume-mount surfaces MUST flow through container_volumes
/ compose_volumes / volume lookups.
- Integration: test_volumes_compose_chain + test_volume_constants_are_lookups
accept both the legacy and the new lookup('volume', app, 'X').name forms
during the migration window.
- Unit tests for the new lookup, filter, mounts helper, plus updated
nginx lookup test.
- Prometheus role-wiring test reads canonical meta for the
alert_rules.yml bind mount.
Role migrations (175)
- 62 meta/volumes.yml converted to dict-of-dicts canonical shape
- 63 templates/compose*.yml.j2 replace inline volumes:/configs:/secrets:
with lookup('container_volumes', application_id, '<service>') |
indent(N) per service + a single trailing lookup('compose_volumes',
application_id) for the top-level block
- 50 vars/main.yml drop dead volume constants and refactor 23 remaining
legacy lookup('config', ..., 'volumes.X.Y') to lookup('volume',
application_id, 'X').Y across 9 roles

The compose/swarm split on `depends_on:` shape (map form with
`condition:` vs. list form, per `docker stack deploy` constraint)
was being hand-coded as a `{% if DEPLOYMENT_MODE == 'swarm' %}` gate
around every block. Repetitive, easy to forget, and templates that
did remember it had to repeat the same six-line pattern per service.
The new `depends_on` lookup encapsulates the shape switch:
{{ lookup('depends_on', {SVC: 'service_healthy', …}) }} # mapping
{{ lookup('depends_on', [SVC_A, SVC_B]) }} # all default
- Compose -> map form with explicit `condition:` per entry.
- Swarm -> list form (just names; swarm ignores depends_on
ordering semantically but accepts the syntax).
- Mapping `None` value uses the default condition (`service_started`,
matching Docker Compose's behaviour when no condition is given).
- Plain list of names uses the default for every entry.
The output is shaped so the call site reads naturally at the
service-member column:
some_service:
image: …
{{ lookup('depends_on', {DB: 'service_healthy'}) }} # at col 4
volumes: …
Concretely the lookup emits line 1 WITHOUT leading whitespace and
lines 2+ with the `indent` kwarg (default 4) plus the YAML-relative
nested indent. Jinja substitution applies the template's leading
spaces to line 1 only, so the column-4 call placement makes
`depends_on:` land at column 4 and the children at 6 / 8. Lines 2+
carry their own indent because Jinja does not propagate template-side
leading whitespace to continuation lines.
Plugin + tests:
- plugins/lookup/depends_on.py: ~190 lines. Mapping / list / empty
input handling, default_condition kwarg, condition validation
against the closed set `{service_started, service_healthy,
service_completed_successfully}`, DEPLOYMENT_MODE resolution via
templar with `mode=` test-only override, indent kwarg semantics
documented in the module docstring.
- tests/unit/plugins/lookup/test_depends_on.py: 27 cases covering
TestInputNormalisation (mapping / list / empty / typo / single
string rejection / non-string sequence rejection / unsupported
type rejection / arity errors), TestModeBehaviour (compose / swarm
/ unknown-falls-to-compose / missing-DEPLOYMENT_MODE-falls-to-compose
/ mode-kwarg override), TestOutputFormatting (line-1 unindented
exact-string assertion, indent=0 edge case, indent=6 edge case,
insertion-order stability for diff-stable output).
Lint:
- tests/lint/ansible/jinja/test_compose_template_uses_depends_on_lookup.py:
rule key `compose-depends-on-must-use-lookup`. Flags three patterns
in any `*compose*.yml.j2` under `roles/`:
1. literal `depends_on:` keyword line
2. flow-form `depends_on: [a, b]`
3. literal `condition: service_*` line
The pre-existing `lookup('container_depends_on', application_id)`
is intentionally not flagged: its call form contains no literal
`depends_on:` token in source. Scan target broadened to
`name.endswith('.yml.j2') and 'compose' in name` so
`compose.override.yml.j2` and `compose-inits.yml.j2` are covered
alongside `compose.yml.j2` and `*.compose.yml.j2`.
Migration (43 depends_on blocks across 17 templates):
- erpnext (6): configurator + backend + websocket + scheduler +
queue-short + queue-long + frontend chains.
- mailu (8): imap + smtp + oletools + antispam + antivirus + webdav +
fetchmail + webmail.
- zammad (4): rails + 3 worker shapes.
- shopware (4): web + worker + scheduler + opensearch, init-gated.
- jitsi (3): three single-key dependencies on JITSI_PROSODY_CONTAINER.
- kix (3): backend + frontend + proxy.
- bigbluebutton/compose.override.yml.j2 (2): bbb-web + etherpad,
inside the existing BBB_COLLABORA_ENABLED gate.
- moodle (2): nginx + cron, both depending on moodle.
- opentalk (2): application + recorder.
- taiga (2): events + gateway.
- matrix (1): loop-driven via `{% set deps = {} %} +
__setitem__` escape hatch over MATRIX_BRIDGES.
- matomo (1): bootstrap service.
- nextcloud (1): whiteboard sidecar.
- openproject (1): proxy.
- funkwhale (1): front.
- magento (1): nginx.
- flowise (1): postgres + redis.
Pre-existing `lookup('container_depends_on', application_id)` calls
(erpnext, nextcloud, moodle, zammad, taiga, matrix, etc.) are left
untouched -- that lookup auto-detects DB / redis from the application
config and emits its own block; it is the app-aware counterpart to
this structural lookup.
Every call placement repositioned to column 4 (standard
compose-service-member indent) so the new line-1-unindented semantic
renders correctly. Eight templates needed the column-4 reposition
(via a mechanical one-shot script that was deleted after).
`make test` green; new lint + 27 unit tests green; independent
re-grep across all `*compose*.yml.j2` finds zero residual raw
`depends_on:` / `condition:` lines.
Three follow-up improvements to the swarm-compatibility lint suite
introduced earlier on this branch:
1. compose-verb-in-task: skip lines that are Ansible handler triggers
(`notify: compose up`) or YAML comment lines before the regex
match. Without these guards every `notify: compose up` directive
in the repo tripped the lint, drowning the real findings.
2. compose.yml.j2 template lints (depends-on-condition,
network-mode-host): replace the terse "wrap in
{% if DEPLOYMENT_MODE \!= 'swarm' %}" message with concrete Jinja
examples showing the if/else swap and the swarm-native replacement
(list-form depends_on plus ansible-side wait; ports.mode=host plus
deploy.mode=global). Reviewers no longer have to reverse-engineer
the expected fix.
3. env-file-literal-quoted-value: replace an em-dash in the rule
docstring and fail message with a hyphen to satisfy the house
no-em-dash style.

Add seven lint tests that identify roles which still rely on
compose-only patterns and therefore break under docker stack deploy.
Each test fails with concrete fix instructions (alternative syntax
plus example) and accepts a per-line nocheck opt-out so genuinely
compose-only roles can mark themselves explicitly:
- compose-verb-in-task: {{ BIN_COMPOSE }} or bare compose <verb>
(exec/run/restart/logs/up/down/ps/config) outside sys-svc-compose
- compose-chdir-in-task: chdir to lookup('container', ..., directories.instance)
in shell tasks (the compose project root is compose-only)
- docker-compose-raw-call: docker compose <verb> plugin form
- env-file-literal-quoted-value: KEY="..." in *.env.j2 without
dotenv_quote (swarm preserves env-file quotes literally)
- compose-only-depends-on-condition: condition: service_healthy /
service_completed_successfully under depends_on in compose.yml.j2
without a compose-only Jinja gate
- network-mode-host-without-swarm-gate: network_mode: host in
compose.yml.j2 without a compose-only Jinja gate
- compose-profiles-without-swarm-gate: profiles: in compose.yml.j2
without a compose-only Jinja gate
The three Jinja-template tests share an if/else stack walker that
correctly inverts the active condition inside {% else %} branches so
the swarm-vs-compose split pattern matomo uses does not false-positive.
Violations are intentionally left unresolved; this commit only
surfaces the backlog of roles needing swarm refactoring.

Replace per-key `compose_container_name` lookup with a generic
`compose_only(key, value)` SPOT that emits `key: "<value>"` only in
compose mode and nothing in swarm. Same gating logic now serves
container_name (157 call sites) and pull_policy (17 call sites)
without duplicate plugin code.
Why this consolidation:
- The earlier `build-key` lint rule was misdirected. Swarm tolerates
`build:` with a harmless warning when `image:` is pre-pushed (via
the existing handlers/swarm_registry_push.py flow in
roles/sys-svc-compose). The actual swarm-rejected key is
`pull_policy:` ("Additional property pull_policy is not allowed"),
and 10 templates were silently broken because they declared inline
`pull_policy: never` outside the existing `{% if DEPLOYMENT_MODE
\!= 'swarm' %}` gate in roles/sys-svc-container/templates/build.yml.j2.
- A single generic lookup is cleaner than N per-key wrappers when
the gating logic is identical (emit-key-or-nothing).
Lint changes in tests/lint/ansible/jinja/test_mode_incompatible_keys.py:
- New `pull-policy-key` rule, regex `^\s*pull_policy\s*:`, remediation
points at compose_only.
- Existing `container-name` rule keeps its raw-key regex; remediation
now also points at compose_only.
- Broken-split / broken-embed regexes rekeyed on the `compose_only`
lookup name (was `compose_container_name`).
- `build-key` rule and its 12 nocheck annotations across templates
removed.
Coordinated changes:
- 86 templates rewritten (157 container_name calls migrated;
17 inline pull_policy lines replaced).
- 1 redundant `{% if DEPLOYMENT_MODE \!= 'swarm' %}` guard dropped in
build.yml.j2 (the lookup self-gates).
- 12 unit tests pin the compose_only contract.
- Catalog (suppression.md) updated: `pull-policy-key` row added,
`container-name` row remediation updated.
- Old `plugins/lookup/compose_container_name.py` and its test module
deleted.

Mirror compose_container_name pattern: plugins/lookup/compose_restart.py
emits `restart: <policy>` only in compose mode. In swarm the key is
silently ignored (replaced by deploy.restart_policy) and produces
"Ignoring unsupported options" warnings at docker stack deploy time.
Sweep 19 raw restart: sites across 10 templates to the no-arg form
`{{ lookup('compose_restart') }}` (the lookup falls back to
DOCKER_RESTART_POLICY from ansible-vars).
base.yml.j2 keeps the explicit-arg form
`{{ lookup('compose_restart', docker_restart_policy | default(DOCKER_RESTART_POLICY)) }}`
so the 5 templates that override the policy via Jinja-scope
`{% set docker_restart_policy = ... %}` (erpnext, zammad, shopware,
matomo, openproject) retain their override path. Jinja-scope bindings
are visible only in the rendering template, never in the Ansible
variable context that the lookup sees, so the caller must resolve them.
Generalize the container-name lint into a data-driven multi-rule
scanner at tests/lint/ansible/jinja/test_mode_incompatible_keys.py
covering both container-name and restart-key. Adding a new rule is one
ModeRule row sharing the file-walk / suppression / line-grouping
scaffolding.
Also gate roles/svc-db-redis/templates/service.yml.j2's
resource.yml.j2 include with DEPLOYMENT_MODE \!= 'swarm'. Mirrors
base.yml.j2's existing pattern; prevents cpus / mem_limit /
mem_reservation / pids_limit from leaking into swarm output where
deploy.resources.* in deploy.yml.j2 already handles them.
11 unit tests pin the compose_restart lookup contract. Both rules
registered in docs/contributing/actions/testing/suppression.md.

container_name is illegal in swarm mode when replicas > 1 (docker rejects
with "services.deploy.replicas: can't set container_name and X as container
name must be unique"). All compose.yml.j2 templates now route through a
single lookup that suppresses the key in swarm mode and emits it in compose
mode.
SPOT: plugins/lookup/compose_container_name.py
Reads DEPLOYMENT_MODE from the templating context, returns
'container_name: "<name>"' under compose and an empty string under swarm.
Call sites read:
{{ lookup('compose_container_name', MY_CONTAINER) }}
No explicit DEPLOYMENT_MODE pass-through needed.
Sweep: 82 templates rewritten across roles/web-app-*, roles/web-svc-*,
roles/svc-*, plus 4 partial includes (sso_proxy, redis, mariadb, postgres).
For container names assembled from multiple Jinja fragments the args use
tilde concat (X ~ '-' ~ Y) so the lookup receives a single resolved string
and the call stays a single well-formed Jinja expression.
Lint: tests/lint/ansible/jinja/test_no_raw_container_name.py blocks
(a) raw 'container_name:' YAML keys in any roles/*/templates/**/*.j2,
(b) split-Jinja regression where the outer braces close mid-call:
{{ lookup('compose_container_name', A }}-{{ B) }},
(c) embedded-Jinja regression inside a string argument:
lookup(..., "{{ X }}_suffix") (removed in ansible-core 2.23).
The (b) and (c) regexes accept either single- or double-quoted lookup
name and scan the full file so multi-line shapes also surface. Suppress
per-site with '# nocheck: container-name' on the same or preceding line.
Tests: tests/unit/plugins/lookup/test_compose_container_name.py pins the
lookup contract: compose vs swarm output, whitespace tolerance, default-to
compose when DEPLOYMENT_MODE is absent, AnsibleError on missing or excess
terms, non-string name coercion.

Add tests/lint/ansible/jinja/test_no_ansible_facts_in_templates.py: under
swarm-mode the rendered template lands once on the primary manager and is
slurp-distributed to every other node, so any per-host fact reference
(ansible_hostname, ansible_default_ipv4, ansible_fqdn, ansible_nodename,
ansible_machine_id, ansible_eth0, ansible_all_ipv*_addresses) would
silently produce wrong output on the other nodes. The lint blocks them
at PR time.
scripts/tests/deploy/act/workflow.sh forwards --action-offline-mode +
--action-cache-path so repeated local act runs do not refetch the actions
catalog.
roles/sys-ctl-cln-anon-volumes/tasks/01_core.yml quoting cleanup applied
by autoformat (single to double quotes, no semantic change).
.claude/settings.json adds Workflow to permissions.allow so the
multi-agent Workflow tool no longer prompts per invocation.

Restructures tests/lint/ansible/ into five concern-keyed subdirectories
(jinja/, modules/, services/, shell/, sql/) plus the pre-existing roles/
and variables/. Each new subdir ships its own __init__.py exporting
PROJECT_ROOT and a scope-focused README.md following the project's
documentation conventions (RFC 2119 keywords, emoji-after-headline,
one-sentence-per-line, no historical context).
12 existing tests move into their concern bucket via git mv so history
follows the file. Adds tests/lint/ansible/variables/test_dotted_path_keys_exist.py
which catches the bug class where a Jinja dotted path's head resolves
via group_vars/all/ or the consuming role's own vars/defaults but a
deeper segment does not exist as a key in the dict tree (e.g. the
previous `LDAP.SERVER.REACH_DOMAIN` typo in web-app-odoo).
Touches three external references so cross-links keep resolving:
- docs/contributing/actions/testing/suppression.md (run-once, shared)
- roles/sys-svc-compose/tasks/utils/network/README.md (network-via-util)
- tests/lint/ansible/sql/test_no_inline_multiline_sql.py (self-path exclude)
