The mount pipeline was split across two layers: compose_volumes and
container_volumes lived as filter modules that ansible's filter loader
rejected on every start ("has no attribute 'FilterModule'", two warnings
per run), while the same-named lookups wrapped them thinly. The filter
bodies now live inside their lookups (the tor_socks precedent), the
filter files are gone, and the render tests moved next to the lookup
tests.
As lookups they see the templating context, so the application_id term
every call site passed back to its own role is gone too: both lookups
read application_id from context and fail loudly when it is missing.
107 templates and nfs_prep.yml drop the term; the calls collapse to
lookup('compose_volumes') and lookup('container_volumes', service_name).
The container_volumes call is now canonical - four leading spaces,
service_name in the service position, | indent(4) - enforced by a new
lint (test_container_volumes_call_shape). Normalizing the 85 literal
call sites surfaced that erpnext keyed its meta/volumes.yml mounts by
container name instead of compose service key, the only role to do so;
its meta now uses the service keys. wordpress's column-0 call, which
rendered its first line at top level, is indented like every other.
Template logic that only restated meta/volumes.yml is deleted: mailu fed
compose_volumes an extra_volumes dict whose eight names were looked up
from the very meta file compose_volumes reads itself; zammad's init and
railsserver extra mounts were the volumes.yml entries minus the two
services, which the meta now lists (the when-gated OIDC binds included).
Conditionality that meta cannot express stays in code, but in role-local
lookup plugins instead of template loops: matrix_bridge_mounts renders
the per-bridge registration mounts, nextcloud_extra_volumes the
feature-gated whiteboard/recording volumes (type: volume entries are
declared unconditionally by compose_volumes, so gating must happen
before it).
Parity is proven, not assumed: every mechanically rewritten template is
byte-identical to HEAD after the transformation regexes (95/95), and the
semantic roles render identically through the real functions against
HEAD's meta - zammad across six sso/tls polarities, all seven erpnext
services, mailu's top level. make test-lint passes complete.
Also: suitecrm's compose template pins container_extra_hosts with
host_alias (the SOCKS proxy URL host.docker.internal never resolved in
compose+tor), and the five disabled mautrix bridge addons use the
empty-default config lookup so templating the applications dict stops
emitting 125 errors per batch in every CI job.

3529 invalid comments in 528 files, grandfathered in while the linter
only saw the working-tree diff. Removal ran through the linter's own
collectors, so detection and deletion cannot drift: a comment whose
opener line is blank before it and whose closer line is blank after it
loses all its lines, anything else loses only the comment region, and a
line left holding a bare delimiter goes with it.
Five files keep their comments behind a nocheck marker instead. Four are
upstream configs whose inline docs are upstream's own (mautrix, systemd
journald, nextcloud-oidc-login, MediaWiki). In littlejs the
commented-out entries ARE the deactivation mechanism for an example
tile, so deleting them would delete configuration.

The alphabetical-sort lint requires env keys ascending; the --no-verify commit that added CDN_TEST_STACK_DIR appended it after CDN_TEST_WEB_ROOT (STACK < WEB). Reorder it before WEB_ROOT. The keys are independent assignments, so sourcing order is unchanged at runtime.

The external-flavor CLI test checked for an npm/ dir under the served web root, but that bind source survives the inter-round purge, so a prior internal-flavor round left it behind and every later external round failed a false positive. Check the CDN compose instance dir (directories.instance) instead: it is purged between rounds and never recreated by the front-proxy-only external deploy, so it is present iff the build stack is actually deployed -- the real invariant the test means to assert.

Replace the ansible container-run plus copy publish with a proper compose
build service deployed via the role's own stack. The one-shot writes the
npm mirror straight into the node-local served CDN root that openresty
reads, so there is no DiND bind-layer mismatch and no separate publish step.
- meta/volumes.yml: build mounts (served root rw, staged manifests ro,
build script as a docker config)
- templates/compose.yml.j2 + env.j2: one-shot build service (restart no,
swarm condition none), CDN_WEB_ROOT and ROLES_DIR from the mount targets
- meta/services.yml: placement manager, replicas 1, resources, deploy modes
- meta/networks.yml: local subnet (the role now ships a stack)
- meta/variants.yml: internal and external flavor variants
- meta/tests.yml + test.env.j2 + files/test/test.sh: flavor-branching e2e
- tasks: internal flavor deploys the stack via sys-stk-full; drop the
container-run and ansible-copy publish; remove the unused dev-git include
- vars: pin CDN_FLAVOR to the role id (scope-safe) and compute host paths
directly (avoid the volume-lookup double-template)

Chromium never treats plaintext .onion origins as a secure context, so
keycloak-js (PKCE via crypto.subtle) could not run. A custom Playwright
browser fixture launches Firefox with the Tor-Browser prefs
(dom.securecontext.allowlist_onions, origin/mixed-content handling) for
onion targets and keeps Chromium for clearnet; all dashboard specs share
it via the register pattern.
keycloak-js is now vendored from the deployment's own CDN as an ES
module (jsdelivr is unreachable over Tor) with CORS opened on the CDN
proxy. Personas and the oidc-login spec wait for adapter readiness and
navbar settle before driving login/logout, which the async code->token
exchange needs over Tor latency.
Verified: full deploy matrix green (onion 14/14 twice, clearnet pass).

Rename env/static.env → env/default.env across the entire repo
(string label, doc links, Python file-path constants) — the
`parse_static_env*` function names stay as a stable API surface.
Sort all `*.env` / `*.env.j2` entries alphabetically (52 in
default.env, 4 in ci.env, 46 of 49 j2 templates; 3 templates
with Jinja2 `{% %}` control flow are skipped because conditional
blocks would tear apart under a naive sort). Sort all 83
Makefile target blocks alphabetically; .PHONY group headers
stay in place.
Collapse the two remaining multi-line Makefile recipe comments
(dotenv-force, test-signed) to single-line WHY comments.
Add four lint tests under tests/lint/filesystem/ to keep the
invariants enforced going forward:
- env/test_alphabetical_sort.py
- env/test_single_line_comments.py (# nocheck: markers exempt)
- makefile/test_alphabetical_targets.py
- makefile/test_single_line_comments.py (# nocheck: markers exempt)

Replace the verbose
`(lookup('applications', application_id).server.domains.canonical | first)`
chain with the dedicated `lookup('domain', application_id)` plugin
across every playwright.env.j2 that renders `CANONICAL_DOMAIN`. The
helper already exists at plugins/lookup/domain.py and resolves the
canonical primary domain via the cached domain-merge pipeline, so the
inline canonical-list traversal is unnecessary noise that obscures
the actual contract.

Adds tests/lint/repository/test_literal_protocol_with_lookup.py which
fails when a file hand-writes the protocol next to a lookup-derived
domain. The protocol must come from the same source as the domain so
TLS-on / TLS-off / self-signed / public-CA stays consistent across the
stack; the `tls` lookup plugin emits both at once via the
`url.base` / `protocols.web` / `protocols.websocket` keys.
Mechanics
- Three regex patterns cover the realistic shapes:
1. `https?://{{ ... lookup( ... }}` (Jinja interpolation)
2. `"https?://" ~ lookup(...)` (Jinja concat with lookup)
3. `"https?://" ~ ... canonical.<key>` (concat with canonical access)
- Internal docker-network upstreams that are genuinely plaintext
(`http://<container>:<port>`) are not detected because the regex
requires a `lookup(` or `canonical.` token; they would only need
the noqa marker if the upstream resolution itself uses one of those.
- Per-line opt-out: `# noqa: literal-protocol-lookup` (or `nocheck`).
- File reads route through `utils.cache.files.read_text` and the
per-file scan result is cached process-wide via `lru_cache`.
Repo cleanup
- web-app-discourse and web-app-littlejs CSP entries now use
`lookup('tls', '<role>', 'url.base')` instead of pinning `http://` /
`https://` next to `lookup('domain', ...)`.
- web-app-matrix and web-svc-cdn Playwright env templates compose the
base URL through the `tls` lookup so the test runner uses the same
protocol the live stack serves.
- web-app-oauth2-proxy carries a single `# noqa: literal-protocol-lookup`
on the upstream line; that one is intentionally plaintext because
oauth2-proxy talks to its sibling upstream over the internal docker
network with no TLS.

with explicit per-application TLS resolution.
Key changes:
- Introduce sys-front-tls-layer as the single TLS abstraction
- Centralize certificate paths via TLS_CERT_FILE / TLS_KEY_FILE / TLS_CA_FILE
- Replace sys-svc-letsencrypt SSL templates with generic TLS layer includes
- Add tls_* Jinja filters (enabled, mode, protocol, port, websocket)
- Resolve TLS mode per application (letsencrypt | self_signed | off)
- Remove implicit defaults and WEB_* globals to fail fast on misconfiguration
- Support self-signed certificates with SAN awareness
- Make TLS behavior explicit and consistent across all roles
This decouples application logic from certificate providers and
allows switching TLS flavor without touching app roles.

Unify reverse proxy handling across apps via sys-stk-front-proxy and cleanly separate internal docker nginx configs from external vhosts.
Changes:
- docker-compose: use with_first_found for optional env and docker-compose.override files so roles can provide either a template or a static file without noisy 'Could not find or access' failures.
- sys-stk-front-proxy: remove front_proxy_domain_conf_src and switch nginx vhost rendering to with_first_found over app-specific proxy.conf.j2 and the generic roles/sys-svc-proxy vhost flavour; keep health-check and handler logic unchanged.
- web-app-nextcloud: migrate to sys-stk-full-stateful (front proxy + DB + docker), move internal nginx config to docker.conf.j2 under the volume path, and rename host.conf.j2 to proxy.conf.j2 for the external vhost.
- web-app-magento: rename nginx.conf.j2 to docker.conf.j2 and update the runtime template task accordingly to make the intent (internal nginx) explicit.
- web-app-matrix: rename nginx.conf.j2 to synapse.conf.j2 and adjust the webserver task to use the new template name for the synapse vhost.
- web-app-bridgy-fed & web-app-flowise: pass domain and http_port explicitly when including sys-stk-front-proxy so the front stack has all required context.
- web-svc-cdn/file/html: replace direct sys-stk-front-base + sys-util-csp-cert + nginx.conf.j2 handling with sys-stk-front-proxy and proxy.conf.j2, relying on the shared front-stack for TLS/CSP/vHost wiring.
- web-svc-collabora: drop the direct nginx.conf.j2 vhost generation and rename it to proxy.conf.j2 so it is picked up by sys-stk-front-proxy like other services.
- web-opt-rdr-domains: rename redirect.domain.nginx.conf.j2 to redirect-domain.conf.j2 and adjust the task for clearer and more consistent naming.
