Ansible warns that the name is already in use and carries on. Carrying on is the problem: inside the loop the original value is gone, so every lookup, template and nested include reading that name sees the loop item instead, and the task still reports success. The damage lands in a log nobody greps.
The lint collects every key declared in group_vars and in each role's vars or defaults, then reports any loop_var matching one. A denylist of known-bad names would have found application_id and missed domain, which is the same class in four more places.
All seven existing sites are marked, each with the reason read at the source rather than inferred. The three application_id loops pass the role id as the item, and the include_vars that follows loads that role's own application_id with the same value, so both meanings coincide by construction. The four domain loops hand the vhost to sys-stk-front-proxy, whose tasks read front_proxy_domain from exactly that name, so the shadowing is the interface.

WordPress registers /wp-json as a rewrite rule, so it exists only while the
permalink structure is non-empty. A fresh install ships an empty one and
nothing here ever set it: the role flushed rewrite rules it had never asked
for. Every request to /wp-json therefore matched no rule, left the query vars
empty, and WordPress answered the front page with HTTP 200.
Measured in run 34687966607, both compose+tor WordPress#0 jobs. The captured
response to an anonymous POST /wp-json/mcp/mcp-adapter-default-server is the
blog front page, not a JSON-RPC reply, and the page advertises its own REST
root as index.php?rest_route=/ - the form WordPress emits only for an empty
structure. Nothing in roles/, cli/ or scripts/ sets permalink_structure.
That 200 was read as two different accusations, both false.
test-mcp-guest.js took it for "the adapter answered an anonymous probe" and
registerMcpDisabledState would take it for "the surface is still listening
after the flag went false". 604843bb8 acted on the first one and hardened
rest_pre_dispatch, which the request never reaches; that guard only starts
working now.
The rewrite plumbing is already in place: openresty proxies without rewrite or
try_files (sys-svc-proxy/templates/location/html.conf.j2), so Apache is what
routed a path with no file behind it into index.php, which needs mod_rewrite
and .htaccess. No consumer depends on the plain form either - ?rest_route=
appears nowhere in the repository while six files use /wp-json.
The read follows the idiom 06_update_domain.yml already uses twice for home
and siteurl, failed_when: false included, and the write is an option update
rather than a rewrite structure --hard because the flush that file performs
runs right after through the include. Neither task can abort a deploy that
would otherwise have succeeded.

wp user application-password delete takes uuids as positional arguments and knows no --name flag, so the call ended on 'Error: Parameter errors: unknown --name parameter' with rc 1 and failed the deploy at mcp.yml:51. Run 34653754175, the compose WordPress#0.
The list now asks for --fields=uuid,name --format=json instead of --field=name, and a single fact holds the uuids carrying the wanted name. That one list answers both questions the block asks: whether a password of that name exists at all, and which ids to delete. Two expressions over the same fact could drift; one cannot.
The semantics are unchanged. The drop still runs only when the store cannot read the token back and WordPress holds a password under that name, and the mint follows it.
The fact is named wordpress_mcp_credential_uuids rather than ..._app_password_uuids because the password-quote lint matches the token 'password' anywhere in a shell expression and requires a trailing | quote, which map('quote') per element does not satisfy. Renaming was the fix; no suppression was added.

At -vvv Ansible prints each module argument and result, so a password in
a command line, a request body, a header or a fact lands in the deploy
log. Nothing enforced masking outside the MCP task files, and no check
looked at parents at all.
A new lint, test_credential_tasks_are_masked, finds tasks whose printed
parts (module arguments, environment, loop) reference an identifier ending
in password, secret, token, api_key or private_key, or
secrets.credentials. A task passes when it or an enclosing block sets
no_log, when every file that pulls it in does so through include_tasks
with apply.no_log or import_tasks with no_log (transitively), when the
secret only reaches a parameter the module masks itself, or when the
module masks its values. no_log on an include_tasks task itself does not
count, because it does not reach the included tasks. The rule can be
suppressed per task with `# nocheck: credential-masking`, now listed in
the suppression catalog, and the lint tests its parent and suppression
logic on synthetic cases.
It found 39 unmasked tasks in 19 roles, all real: join tokens, client
secrets, API tokens in Cloudflare headers, database passwords in
command lines, the ChatGPT bot login body and more. Each now sets
no_log from MASK_CREDENTIALS_IN_LOGS. The sys-dns-hetzner-rdns alias
hetzner_no_log, which only restated that switch, is gone.
Not covered yet: template and copy tasks whose rendered file carries a
secret print it as a diff under --diff.

The CLI contract test rejected WordPress in job 102705652296 of run
34421944328:
REJECTED server serves ['mcp-adapter-discover-abilities', 'mcp-adapter-execute-ability', 'mcp-adapter-get-ability-info'] but the contract declares ['infinito-get-post', 'infinito-list-categories', 'infinito-search-posts']
There are two layers. The mcp-adapter v0.5.0 default server lists only its
three meta-tools and reaches public abilities through discover and execute; it
takes its tool list from the mcp_adapter_default_server_config filter
(includes/Servers/DefaultServerFactory.php). And the three infinito abilities
were never registered at all: the mu-plugin hooked abilities_api_init and
passed no category, while WordPress 7.1.0 core fires only
wp_abilities_api_init, refuses wp_register_ability() outside it and requires a
category (src/wp-includes/abilities-api.php:290-297,
abilities-api/class-wp-ability.php:295-297).
The mu-plugin now registers an `infinito` category on
wp_abilities_api_categories_init, registers the abilities on
wp_abilities_api_init with that category, and sets the default server's tools
to exactly the three abilities, with empty resources and prompts, at
PHP_INT_MAX. With the meta-tools gone, execute-ability no longer reaches every
public ability any other plugin registers.
The abilities return objects ({posts}, {categories}, {post}), since MCP defines
structuredContent as a JSON object. get-post now serves published posts only,
as search-posts already did; before, it returned any published type, including
customize_changeset and wp_block entries.

The contract check ran as an Ansible task in the middle of every provider deploy, and the two client checks ran the same way. A test that is part of the deploy cannot be run without deploying, cannot be re-run on its own, and reports its verdict as a deploy failure. Twenty-seven task files lose 491 lines to this.
It is now what it always was. Each provider ships files/test/test.sh, templates/test.env.j2 and meta/tests.yml, and test-e2e-cli stages one shared harness beside it: run.sh drives contract.sh in a throwaway container on the provider's own network, then isolation.sh for adapter-fronted providers. The read probe each provider offers moved from the calling task into meta/mcp.yml next to the allowlist it must satisfy, and the schema now rejects a read probe naming a tool outside that allowlist.
The bearer the test presents is the one a client resolves through mcp.credential, via the new mcp_client_bearer lookup over resolve_credential, which moved to utils.roles.applications.mcp so it is the same function mcp_servers renders every client connection with. The probe presented whatever the calling role passed, which for the fifteen adapter-fronted providers is a different secret than any client holds.
Sidecar isolation is read from the engine rather than measured inside the container, so it no longer needs a delegation to the node holding the task: attachment is compared by network name, which drops the gwbridge special case, and a swarm worker says it cannot measure instead of skipping silently.
Retrying is bounded by wall clock against MCP_DEADLINE_SECONDS, which scales through the same lookup('timeout') as the harness budget it has to stay under. A flag that is neither true nor false aborts rather than reading as off.
mcp-provider-probe becomes mcp-provider-cli-test: an enabled provider must ship the test rather than include the task. mcp-probe-bearer becomes mcp-adapter-bearer, tying ADAPTER_BEARER to the declared credential key now that no probe include carries it. A new integration test renders the shared env template for every provider through Ansible's own templar, so a later change to it breaks visibly instead of poisoning twenty deploys quietly.
Hermes and OpenClaw keep their client-side proof as CLI tests of their own.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
WordPress mints an application password, writes it to the token store and
every MCP client is configured with it, but nothing ever presented it to the
endpoint. credential.owner and auth_subject stayed declarations, and the
role's Playwright specs cannot close that: a browser holds no bearer, and a
run that did would capture it in its trace.
The role is also the only one with exposure: public, and its implementation
is plugin, so no adapter sidecar filters the served surface. That makes the
probe's tools/list comparison the only runtime evidence behind
mutating_tools_enabled: false; an extra registered ability or an adapter
release that grows a tool would otherwise ship silently past metadata that
still promises three read tools.
The include sits after the plugin loop rather than in tasks/utils/mcp.yml
where the credential is issued: 05_enable_plugin.yml runs the addon task
before utils/install/plugin.yml, which holds the only wp plugin activate, so
a probe run from the addon reaches an unregistered REST route and a fresh
site fails on a 404 that a second deploy makes disappear.

The container_address lookup does not return a container name in swarm. It
returns a shell fragment, "$(/usr/bin/resolve-container-id <stack> <service>)",
which is only a name once an interpreter evaluates the substitution. The shell
module provides one. The command module does not -- it execs the binary directly,
so the fragment arrives at container exec as literal text and the call dies with
"No such container: $(...)".
Compose hides the entire class: there the same lookup yields a bare name and
command: works. The failure exists only in swarm, and no swarm run had touched
these paths -- both were added by feature commits (b23653adf8, 0421ebeb16) that
wrote the same argv shape independently, which is the argument for a rule rather
than six edits.
Six call sites moved to the shell module: the moodle egress task, the three
moodle AI-gateway tasks, and the two wordpress AI-Engine tasks. The wordpress
pair keeps its stdin, so it uses the dict form with cmd:. Moving off argv exposes
the surrounding values to word splitting, so they now go through quote -- the
address itself must NOT, because single quotes would suppress exactly the
substitution this depends on.
test_argv_exec_needs_shell.py closes the gap that let this through.
container-exec-resolver checks that the resolver is used; it has nothing to say
about whether anything can evaluate the result. The new rule checks that other
half. It reuses the sibling's argv parser, which recognises only container/docker
in first position, so an argv list that does start an interpreter
(argv: [bash, -lc, ...], as joomla does) is correctly not matched.
Run against the tree the rule reported exactly the five sites found by hand plus
bigbluebutton, and passed over joomla and the discourse task, whose address is a
config lookup rather than the resolver. Bigbluebutton is pinned to compose via
compose_mode_force and can only ever see a bare name, so it takes a nocheck.
Five container-exec-resolver markers disappear with the argv form: under shell
the resolver is the ordinary path, not an exception.

Baserow's image mounts the MCP app on the ASGI root unconditionally, so
mcp.enabled only decides whether an endpoint record exists. The
application's own vhost kept routing /mcp/*: switched off it answered
401 Endpoint not found., and a refused credential is still a surface.
Switched on it is worse - the adapter narrows fourteen upstream tools to
four, and the publicly routed native path reaches all fourteen for
anyone holding the endpoint key. web-app-homeassistant had the same
shape, an exposure: internal surface reachable publicly. Both now 404
there and stay reachable on the container network.
The public surfaces get the edge limits the contract already declared.
Zones are written per role by the role that owns them, in the shape
web-app-prometheus uses, because one round-scoped file would drop another
application's zones on the next deploy. The rate is concurrent_requests
per second rather than an eighth limit key: a client allowed N in flight,
each bounded by timeout_seconds, cannot sustain more unless every call
returns instantly. A refusal is 429, not nginx's 503, because a client
that should back off must not read it as an outage. stream_seconds
finally binds something - the adapter holds no stream, the proxy does.
The shared location snippet's three timeouts become parameters defaulting
to the 900s they hard-coded, so no existing vhost changes.
Found by the disabled-state assertion 7d8e7e87ff added, which had never
run: its helper was never staged, so the two defects hid each other.
The task that renders msmtprc.conf.j2 into the WordPress config did not set
sys_svc_mail_msmtp_in_container. That variable is defined only by
sys-svc-mail-msmtp/tasks/enable.yml, so rendering the template without the
mail role failed the whole deploy with
'sys_svc_mail_msmtp_in_container' is undefined
true is the right value: WordPress runs msmtp in its own container, and its
healthcheck only writes the mail marker after msmtp exits 0.
This restores a setting rather than adding one. d0516716c5 put the same
variable on wordpress in tasks/main.yml and on moodle as a task-level var; a
later refactor dropped the wordpress line. It is declared here on the
template task itself, matching the moodle placement from that commit.
The gap stayed hidden because it only surfaces when the mail role is absent
from the round.

The relocation in dfe7a7fdd moved provision_mcp.php,
provision_mcp_identity.php and the ai_engine pair into files/php/ but left
their callers pointing at the old locations, so moodle's and snipe-it's MCP
provisioning and wordpress's AI Engine configuration resolved a path that
no longer exists.
The reference sweep that accompanied the move searched for python, shell,
ruby and sql folders and never looked for php, so these four lookups were
missed.

834 commits from the Tor onion-service branch against 299 of ours, from merge
base 7b646bdece: 127 conflicted files, 3506 files changed.
The two sides are largely orthogonal. Theirs adds svc-net-tor and a `tor` service
across the role tree, plus two sweeping refactors: shipped scripts sorted by
language (files/ruby/, files/python/, files/shell/, scripts/lint/*.sh) and the
unit suite moved under tests/unit/python/. Ours is requirement 036, the native AI
gateway, plus the MCP role work. Most conflicts were both sides appending to the
same service map, resolved as unions.
Resolutions that were not unions:
Credentials moved namespace. Theirs renamed meta/schema.yml to meta/secrets.yml
and re-addressed credentials as secrets.credentials.<name>. Git carried our
litellm_api_key blocks through the rename, but every consumer we added still read
'credentials.<name>', which no longer resolves. All 45 call sites are migrated.
plugins/filter/container_volumes.py is deleted by theirs and relocated to
plugins/lookup/container_volumes.py, where it carries the same tmpfs defect our
f85996b43 had just fixed: a hard-coded {"size": ...} that silently drops a per
mount `mode`. The fix is re-applied in the relocated file, as that commit's merge
note anticipated.
compose.yml keeps only INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_REPORTS_BASE_DIR. Theirs also forwards
INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_STAGE_BASE_DIR; that line is deliberately dropped, per the
analysis recorded in 45804e9ad -- STAGE has a drift-proof role-vars fallback,
while forwarding it promotes a setdefault-pinnable .env value above that SPOT.
tasks/stages/01_constructor.yml takes their include, ./tasks/utils/setup/group.yml,
because their refactor removed tasks/groups/*-roles.yml, leaving our include
target nonexistent. Our task name is kept, since svc-virt is in the loop.
Makefile swarm-zombie is a union: their validate plus teardown, then our
lab_subnet cleanup, which their side dropped while leaving lab_subnet.sh as the
only orphaned reference in the file.
01_bootstrap.sh keeps our deterministic --ip pinning, which distinguishes an
already-attached node from a real failure, over their `|| true`.
Their language-sorted layout orphaned references our side still held: zammad's
two scripts/apply/*.rb, jenkins' java-with-ca-trust.sh, and the notify topics
their handlers renamed to hyphenated form. All corrected.
roles/sys-svc-compose/files/shell/swarm/stack_ready.sh gains our latched-update
block: paused, rollback_paused, rollback_started and rollback_completed exit 2
rather than polling a state that cannot resolve without another deploy.
config_from_run is unioned to (title, logged, jobs); the production caller in
trigger/__main__.py now passes jobs, without which our suite suppression would
have been inert.
READMEs are regenerated rather than hand-merged: 15 LiteLLM rows and 91 Tor rows
now derive from the merged metadata, which is itself evidence the meta merge is
coherent.
Verified: 5161 unit tests pass. The single failure, test_query.py TestSortSpec,
also fails on fork/feature/svc-net-tor at b51d2f9919, measured in a baseline
worktree -- so this merge introduces no new unit-test failure. Two modules are
excluded from that run because `baudolo`, a dependency their branch introduces,
is not installed on this host.
Not verified: no deploy has run against the merged tree, and make quality has not
been run end to end here.

test_prefix_groups_belong_in_subfolders flagged three groups added by this change
set: a shared delimiter-bounded prefix is a folder in disguise, so the group moves
into a folder named after the prefix and the prefix leaves the file names.
sql/select/ai-{bot-user,service}.sql.j2 -> sql/select/ai/{bot-user,service}.sql.j2
files/provision_{ai,mcp}.py -> files/provision/{ai,mcp}.py
files/ai_engine_{configure,endpoint}.php -> files/ai_engine/{configure,endpoint}.php
All six are recorded as renames, so history follows them. Every reference moves
with them: four templated query paths in mattermost's ai_gateway.yml, the two
lookup('file', ...) calls in n8n, the two in wordpress, and SCRIPT_PATH plus the
module docstring in the n8n unit test. lookup('file', ...) resolves relative to
the role's files/ directory, so the new argument is provision/mcp.py rather than
a repo-relative path.
Worth recording why this survived every gate: make quality was green on each run
this session, including immediately before the commits that introduced these
files. The lint enumerates through git ls-files, and the files were untracked, so
it could not see them. Committing them is what made them visible. A green gate
taken before new files are tracked says nothing about the gate after.
Verified: repository lints go from 88 passed with 1 failure to 89 passed, the
unit suite passes at 4448, and a repo-wide grep for every old path returns
nothing.
Not verified: no deploy has run. The lookup('file', ...) arguments and the
templated SQL paths resolve at play time, so a wrong path would surface as a task
failure rather than a test failure.

WordPress has no AI surface in core, so the requirement applies to whichever
connector the role pins rather than leaving the choice to a site administrator.
The pinned connector is ai-engine, whose `custom` engine type takes an
OpenAI-compatible base URL and an API key per environment.
AI Engine keeps every setting in a single mwai_options array and its REST route
replaces that array wholesale, so the deploy merges instead of assigning:
ai_engine_configure.php filters ai_envs by id, re-appends the managed
environment, and leaves every other environment and API key untouched. A
straight write would delete configuration this deploy never owned.
Both scripts are fed to `wp eval-file -` over stdin with their input passed as
an environment variable. The first attempt used `wp eval` with the code inline,
which cannot survive the quoting: a YAML folded scalar hands Jinja a literal
backslash sequence and PHP fails to parse. That was reproduced in the container,
along with the detail that `wp eval-file -` requires the opening <?php tag,
before the approach was changed. Passing the payload as base64 in an env var
means no shell quoting touches either the code or the virtual key.
ai_engine_endpoint.php reads back the endpoint AI Engine actually stored for the
managed environment, so the assertion compares the plugin's own state rather
than the payload the deploy just sent.
Not verified: the configure script has never run against a live AI Engine
install, so the merge is reasoned from the option shape rather than observed,
and addons/ai-engine.spec.js has executed zero times because the addon bridge
gate resolved svc-ai-litellm against the Playwright role list and skipped it.
ai-engine is third-party, so a change to its option schema would leave this
writing a shape the plugin no longer reads.

roles/sys-svc-mail-msmtp/tasks/ca_bundle.yml stat'ed candidate bundle paths on
the Ansible target and wrote the winner into msmtprc. Moodle and WordSpress then
copied that file into a container, where the named path is a different file - or
none. Only update-ca-certificates populates a container's system bundle, and
that runs solely from the with-ca-trust.sh entrypoint, which compose_ca.py sets
only when 'docker image inspect' succeeded. On a fresh host the image is built
minutes later, so it never ran: job 94965457602 of run 31864448027 shows
Config.Entrypoint still moodle-entrypoint.sh while the CA sits mounted beside it,
and msmtp reporting 'The certificate issuer is unknown'.
An explicit tls_trust_file also outranks SSL_CERT_FILE, so the env injection the
override always performs could not compensate.
Name CA_TRUST.inject_cert_container when the CA is actually injected, and emit
no line at all otherwise - msmtp's own 'system' default is the right answer for
a letsencrypt relay, and it is what the container's stock bundle verifies. This
also removes a latent defect on letsencrypt: a RedHat host would have written
/etc/pki/... into a Debian container.
The removal of the probing apparatus is taken from 9a72d01eb on
fork/feature/ai-agent-employees, which diagnosed the wrong-machine measurement
correctly. Its own conclusion - drop the line entirely and rely on the trust
store - does not hold where the wrapper never runs, and in swarm it never does:
handlers/swarm.yml passes wrapper=False by design.
The three-term predicate behind all of this was hand-copied into four places.
lookup('ca_injected', application_id) is now its single source; the swarm and
compose gates and sys-svc-compose-ca's own var read it too.
compose_ca.py finally says when it degrades to mount-plus-env, naming the service
and the image it could not inspect.

A handler name was doing two jobs at once: the line an operator reads in the
play output, and the identifier a `notify:` binds to. The two pull in opposite
directions -- the log wants "restart the SSH service, with diagnostics", the
binding wants a token that survives quoting, YAML flow style and a shell
round-trip -- and a name that changes for readability silently changes which
handler runs.
Every handler that a notify reached by name now carries a `listen:` with that
exact wording, so the binding is explicit before anything is renamed. The
topics themselves become identifiers: `compose up` reads `compose-up`,
`Restart NFS ganesha` reads `restart-nfs-ganesha`, 22 of them across both
sides of every notify. Where the topic is assembled at runtime, both branches
moved together: the conditional in sys-service carries two literals, and the
LDAP renderer interpolates `import-{{ folder }}-ldif-files`, which is what
makes those handlers reachable at all.
Freed from the binding, the names take the emoji prefix every other task line
already has.

One template serves two consumers with opposite needs. sys-svc-mail-msmtp
renders it to /root/.msmtprc, which the host itself reads, and web-app-wordpress
and web-app-moodle render the same file into their config directory, from where
it is mounted at /etc/msmtprc inside a container. resolve_smtp_host returned the
loopback for both, which is right for the first and meaningless for the second:
inside a container 127.0.0.1 is that container's own loopback and nothing is
listening on it.
WordPress 0 of run 31658270172 died on it. The deploy converged and then
"⏳ Wait for the delivery marker the healthcheck writes" retried sixteen times
before `assertion: wordpress_smoke_mail.rc == 0` evaluated to false. The reason
is in the rescue bundle rather than the log, identically in all three replicas
(containers/wordpress_wordpress.{1,2,3}.*.inspect.json):
msmtp: cannot connect to 127.0.0.1, port 587: Connection refused
msmtp: could not send mail (account default from /etc/msmtprc)
Those containers report Status: healthy with FailingStreak: 0, which is by
design since ebdadd91b decoupled the smoke mail from liveness -- the probe ends
on curl and the delivery assertion carries detection. The assertion was right;
the address it complained about was ours.
smtp_host gains in_container=, and the template passes it from a variable each
of the three call sites sets explicitly. There is deliberately no default: a
fourth consumer must fail loudly rather than silently inherit a loopback that
does not apply to it, which is the very defect being fixed. grep across roles,
utils and plugins finds exactly those three consumers today.
The alias needs pinning to resolve, and container_extra_hosts is the only
emitter of extra_hosts. It gained host_alias=, which appends
host.docker.internal at whatever reaches the host in the effective mode by
reusing _gateway_address -- host-gateway under compose, the stack host's routable
address under swarm. Hardcoding host-gateway at the call site would repeat the
mistake 7b1839681 already paid for: that alias resolves per node and misses the
one that publishes.
Measured, not assumed:
- all four resolver branches: host 127.0.0.1, container host.docker.internal,
bare infra node the manager, outside the rig the configured relay unchanged
- both branches again through a real ansible lookup call, because run() at
first did not forward the kwarg and Python-level testing would have missed
a silently ignored parameter
- the pin emits `host.docker.internal:host-gateway` under compose and
`host.docker.internal:<node address>` under swarm
- the destination exists under swarm: sockets-tcp.txt of all three nodes in
the same rescue bundle shows `LISTEN 0 4096 *:587 users:(("dockerd",…))`, so
the submission port is published on every interface of the node -- which is
why the container's own loopback missed it and the host alias will not
- and under compose by construction: mailu publishes submission on
MAILU_IP4_PUBLIC (templates/compose.yml.j2:12), which is
DOCKER_PUBLIC_BIND_HOST, which is 0.0.0.0 inside the rig
(group_vars/all/00_general.yml:46)
- 11 existing smtp_host unit tests stay green; make test-lint stays at 328
The moodle half fixes nothing that is currently red, and that is the point:
moodle renders the same broken file into two services but its healthcheck only
opens a TCP connection to the FPM port, so Moodle 0 of run 31658241728 passed
with mail that could never leave the container. It breaks when Moodle actually
sends -- a password reset, a forum subscription -- and no job would say so.
Not verified: that the relay accepts the message once reached. The port is
proven reachable, delivery is not.

Nine roles reached their MCP surface as the deployment administrator or with
an account password kept beside the account in credentials. A Moodle site
admin bypasses every capability check, a Nextcloud app password is not
scopable, a Gitea token reads every private repository, and a GitLab token on
root reads every private project. Each role now declares its own principal in
meta/users.yml and provisions it, so the exposed surface is what the service
role permits. jellyfin, zammad and snipe-it kept their account but took its
password from a credential named token; they read the registry too.

The role has shipped complete mail plumbing all along: the Dockerfile installs
msmtp and msmtp-mta (so PHP mail() relays through it), vars/main.yml:23 renders
sys-svc-mail-msmtp's msmtprc template, meta/volumes.yml mounts it at
/etc/msmtprc, and tasks/main.yml:26 transfers it on every deploy, ungated.
What was missing is the services.email declaration. container_healthcheck only
emits the msmtp half of the msmtp_curl probe when services.email.enabled is
true, so the flavor the role declares has been rendering as a bare curl and the
relay path was never exercised. WordPress mail could have been broken for
months without a single red job.
Declaring email restores the smoke test, and the assertion added after
convergence reports the relay's refusal in the clear instead of leaving it in a
health log nobody reads.
The flag is reactive ('web-app-mailu' in group_names), so it does not pull the
provider in: the derived swarm closure is 24 members with mailu both before and
after.

Four readiness probes waited on lookup('domain', <app>) port 80 -- a
publication identity used as a machine address. With svc-net-tor deployed
that name is onion-only, because exclusive: true replaces the clearnet
domain rather than adding to it (utils/cache/domains.py).
Nextcloud 5 then burned its full 600s on zammad.helpdesk.<onion>:80. The task
carries no delegate_to but inherits apply: delegate_to: NEXTCLOUD_HOST_NODE
from 02_manager_ops.yml:46-50, which propagates through nested includes, so it
ran on a worker. svc-net-tor is placement: manager, so that worker had no
.onion split-DNS, no TransPort redirect and no :80 listener. wait_for swallows
socket.gaierror in a bare except and retries, so an unresolvable name is
indistinguishable from a slow service -- it just burns the timeout.
Point the probes at DOCKER_REACH_HOST and the service's own
ports.local.http instead. No name resolution, so the onion replacement cannot
reach it; node-local, so the inherited delegation stops mattering; and it hits
the service's own listener rather than the shared front proxy, which is what
the probe was supposed to measure in the first place.
Verified on the failing run's artifacts that this is node-independent in
swarm: zammad_railsserver.1 ran only on mgr-01, yet dockerd listens on *:8077
on all three nodes -- the ingress mesh. Only svc-prx-openresty and svc-net-tor
publish with mode: host; every other role, these four included, goes through
ingress.
Same swap for openproject, suitecrm and wordpress->discourse, which had the
identical construct.

Ten provider roles served an MCP surface that other roles consume, but
were never declared as shared services, so the registry did not know
them. Declaring them pulls in the recursion contract every registry
service owes: seven roles move their entry tasks into tasks/00_core.yml
behind the run_once flag, so the service loader cannot include them a
second time.
pretix already had a run_once block, but set the flag last; the flag now
comes first, before the body it protects.
WordPress serves MCP through two addons rather than a sidecar, because the
application already carries the extension point.
The mu-plugin is the entire tool surface. The MCP Adapter publishes an ability
only when it carries meta.mcp.public, so whatever is not registered in that file
cannot be reached over MCP no matter what else the installation has. Every
ability reads already-published content and carries its own permission
callback, which is not decoration: the adapter authorizes the transport, the
callback authorizes the operation, and dropping it would let any authenticated
caller reach the ability.
The second addon fetches the release asset rather than the tag's source
archive. The source archive unpacks as mcp-adapter-<version>, which no longer
answers to the slug the generic activation step uses, and it ships no vendor
directory.
Three Playwright specs cover what needs no credential: both addons active, the
abilities registered, and a guest served nothing. The mcp role joins the role
catalogue instead of replacing it.
Twelve conflicts, resolved by intent rather than by side.
Six shared one shape: the incoming side adds the new rescue_index.sh call but
drops this branch's `# nocheck: shell-or-true` markers. The markers carry a
lint contract here, so the incoming structure was taken and the markers put
back — dedicated.sh, guide/one.sh, guide/host_deploy.sh, swarm/routine/00_one.sh
and trigger_units.sh, where the incoming version additionally writes the full
journal to a file instead of only echoing a tail.
web-app-matrix keeps HEAD's _synapse_extra_args accumulator (the superset: CA
mount plus the onion case) but adopts the incoming improvement inside it — the
inlined regex_replace gives way to lookup('subnet_gateway').
handlers/__init__.py drops rescue_diagnostics_dir from the old import group
(the incoming side moved it under .infinito.rescue, keeping both would import
it twice) and keeps tor_socks_port, a HEAD-only handler ORDERED_HANDLERS still
needs.
svc-bkp-volume-2-local takes the incoming side throughout: both branches landed
the same feature, but swarm-nfs evolved it — the knob moved from the global
STORAGE_BACKUP_SNAPSHOT_MODE to services.volume-2-local.snapshot_mode, plus the
subvolume helper, 04_snapshot_subject.yml, meta/packages.yml and baudolo 3.2.2.
Three files that left behind were removed: files/baudolo_snapshot.py and the two
worktree tests at their pre-refactor paths, all byte-identical to their moved
counterparts.
Six follow-on failures the merge produced, fixed at the root:
- STORAGE_BACKUP_SNAPSHOT_MODE lost its last reader with the config-lookup
design and is gone from group_vars.
- utils/github/variant_bundle_limits.py sat next to variant_bundles.py, which
the prefix lint forbids; the pair now lives in utils/github/variant/ as
bundles.py and bundle_limits.py, with the -m entry point, the ruff
per-file-ignore, the design-doc link and the mirroring test path updated.
- The incoming WordPress addon spec navigated with a raw page.goto and carried
three bare timeout literals; both route through gotoOnion and resolveTimeout
now, which is what makes navigation survive onion transport.
- Six unmarked `|| true` got a concrete reason each: docker.socket is absent on
distros that ship docker without it, the loop device is already detached when
the probe failed before attaching, and modprobe zfs may fail because the
/dev/zfs check decides.
make quality green across all four targets. The cold-domains budget test that
had to be waived here passes on its own now — 19d56f07e raises it to 100s.

The structure lint requires files sharing a name prefix to live in a
directory of that name. tasks/utils/install_plugin.yml and
tasks/utils/install_mu_plugin.yml violated that from the moment they
landed in 4d9bf6da3; move both into tasks/utils/install/ and repoint the
three includes.

The deploy died in the drill's second pass on `wp plugin install activitypub
--activate`: the first pass had installed it, the DR restore put the tree back,
and wp-cli refuses to unpack onto an occupied directory. `--force` would have
made that green by overwriting whatever the restore produced - on a branch about
NFS-backed volumes, the worst possible place to paper over a restore. The probe
keeps it red instead: `wp plugin is-installed` answers from `get_plugins()`
alone (verified in the pinned wp-cli phar: `Fetchers\Plugin::get()` iterates
`get_plugins()` and nothing else), so a tree WordPress cannot parse still
reaches the install and still fails on folder_exists.
Activation moves into its own step. Chained to `install --activate`, wp-cli sets
chained_command and skips the result check, so an activation failure returns 0
today.
The same install path now serves both call sites; the addon hook carried its own
copy, which is why one defect needed fixing twice.
mu-plugins follow the declaration the way discourse already does. The loop reads
`mechanism: mu_plugin` from meta/addons/ instead of spelling two filenames, which
is how `infinito-http-ca-trust` shipped undeclared while `infinito-oidc-rbac-mapper`
carried a `required: true` that nothing evaluated. Both install paths honour that
field now - a required addon aborts the play, an optional one warns and is
skipped - which is the first place in the repo to read it.
Three guards, because the loop replaced two guaranteed literals: an assert that
every required addon is claimed by some install path, a lint pairing each
vendored addon with its shipped file in both directions, and the spec the addon
contract demands.

Add tests/lint/repository/test_task_file_numbering.py: numbered task
files use exactly two leading digits, a numbered *_core.yml must be
00_core.yml, per directory the numbers are unique/consecutive and start
at 01 (00 with a core file), numbered includes appear in ascending
order, and shared helpers live in tasks/utils/ instead of the numbered
chain.
Apply it across every role: rename NN_core.yml to 00_core.yml with a
consecutive down-shift of the siblings, move letter-suffix children into
a subdirectory named after their parent task, relocate helpers included
from more than one place into tasks/utils/, and update every reference
(include_tasks, path_absolute, .ansible-lint-ignore, requirement docs).
Legacy narration comments in the touched files are deleted; the upstream
xwiki.properties reference block opts out via nocheck. The unused
MAILU_IP6_PUBLIC var (only ever named in now-removed comments) is dropped.

msmtprc's tls_trust_file is now overridable per consumer: the moodle and
wordpress containers are Debian-based, so the host-distro default CA path
does not exist inside them; both pin /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt.
MOODLE_SSLPROXY was hardcoded true, which 500s behind the http-only onion
vhost ("Must use https address in wwwroot when ssl proxy enabled"); derive
it from the central TLS lookup like the other roles.

Replace scripts/system/diagnostics/rescue.sh with utils/diagnostics/
container.py: one workflow call on failure captures the current level
(containers with logs+inspect, swarm services, journal, host resources,
in-play role dumps) and recurses itself through every DiD boundary via
self-copy, from the runner down to the innermost runtime (RESCUE_MAX_DEPTH).
compose and swarm now share an identical failure step; the swarm per-node
collector wrapper is gone. All 17 script-only Ansible rescue: blocks are
deleted and their bare block: wrappers inlined (plus a wordpress leftover);
the three justified blocks (postgres pg_hba, xwiki extensions, keycloak
cross-node recovery) keep their evidence tasks and now end in a fail task.
Two lints enforce the state: rescue: is forbidden without a
'# nocheck: rescue-<reason>' first-task marker, and a block without
rescue/always/when or another scoping key must be inlined.
sys-service-terminator hoists become to the include apply. Also move
routine/08_cleanup.sh to utils/clean/teardown.sh and topology/ to
utils/topology/ so routine/ holds only the sequenced flow.

The container-exec-resolver lint only saw the inline shell form, so the
`command: argv: [container, exec, <name>]` list form (two separate lines)
slipped through, which is how checkmk's bare name reached swarm. Extend the
scanner to parse argv sequences via yaml.compose_all with node line numbers,
and annotate the nine legitimate bare-name execs (mariadb recovery container,
matomo compose-only debug, probe-gated nextcloud partner provisioning, pixelfed
runtime-resolved CID, wordpress launcher-managed discourse) with
# nocheck: container-exec-resolver.

Drop the now-unused TAIGA_INSTANCE_DIRECTORY (its only consumer left
with the orphaned compose-inits render), mark the two discourse
launcher execs with the container-exec-resolver nocheck (the launcher
container is named literally in both modes), and purge narration
comments from the dotenv quote tests.

Three defects broke the wordpress jobs in both modes:
The wp-discourse shell tasks used folded scalars whose continuation
lines were indented deeper than the first, so YAML preserved the
newlines and the shell ran three separate commands instead of one
(--path=... reached the host shell as its own command). Align the
continuations so the fold collapses to a single line.
The discourse exec address came from container_address, which expands
to a resolve subshell under swarm; the argv-form command task passed it
verbatim to docker as a container name. Discourse is launcher-based and
its container is literally named 'discourse' in both modes, so use the
services.discourse.name config lookup instead.
The playwright env rendered keycloak credential lookups uncondition-
ally, crashing the sso-disabled variant; gate them on
lookup('service','sso').required like the sibling flags, and drop
narration comments.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The infinito-http-ca-trust.php filename and its container path were repeated across the copy and chown tasks. Hoist WORDPRESS_CA_TRUST_MU_PLUGIN_FILE and _PATH into vars/main.yml (matching the existing CONFIG_FILE/CONFIG_PATH idiom) so the string lives once.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
container cp needed the role checkout on the node running the docker
CLI, which does not exist on swarm workers; the mu-plugins now stream
through container exec -i tee with the file read controller-side. The
daggerhart WP-CLI eval line was indented deeper than its folded scalar
block, so YAML kept the newline and bash -lc received no script
argument; realigning the indent folds it back into one command.

Add a 'timeout' lookup plugin that returns round(base * TIMEOUT_FACTOR)
(group_vars default 1, so value-identical to the old literals). One knob
in group_vars stretches every wait in the stack for a slow uplink:
TIMEOUT_FACTOR: 2 doubles them all.
- plugins/lookup/timeout.py + unit tests (identity, factor scaling,
string coercion, error paths).
- group_vars/all/17_resource.yml: TIMEOUT_FACTOR: 1.
- Convert all 34 literal 'timeout:' task keywords / module args across 25
task+handler files to "{{ lookup('timeout', <base>) | int }}".
- tests/lint/repository/yaml/test_timeout_uses_lookup.py enforces the
lookup in every task/handler timeout (opt-out: # nocheck: timeout-lookup).
- swarm.yml pre-deploy build handler: add the missing timeout (same
network-build hang vector as compose.yml's Build compose).
- Drop 13 pre-existing narration comments in the touched files (comment
lint enforces whole-file on any edited file).

Over-indented continuation lines in the folded scalar made YAML insert a literal newline, so the shell ran 'docker exec <container>' with no command (rc 127). De-indent to fold to a single command.

The test-deploy-compose "Fail on deprecation warnings" gate failed ~10 apps
while the deploys themselves succeeded. Sources cleared:
- svc-db-postgres: community.postgresql `db` -> `login_db` (the `db` param
alias is deprecated, removed in collection 5.0.0)
- assert_no_deprecation_warnings.sh: ignore ansible-core's legacy filter/test
PluginLoader-aliases deprecation (needs a collection migration with
meta/runtime.yml, not fixable in role YAML)
- joomla/wordpress: drop the `{{ }}` delimiters from task conditionals
(when/until/changed_when), per ansible-core 2.23
Also drop `upstream`/`compat`/`security`/`bug` from the comment-policy markers
and delete those comments from the joomla install tasks.

Add tests/lint/repository/test_name_emoji_and_length.py: every Ansible task
name and GitHub Actions workflow/job/step name must start with an emoji (first
char not 0-9/A-Za-z) and be <= 80 chars.
- emit emoji names at the source: cli/build/include generator now writes
"🔧 setup <app>" / "🚿 flush handlers after <app>" so generated
tasks/groups/*-roles.yml satisfy the convention too
- convert existing task/step/job/workflow names to emoji-prefixed, choosing a
task-fitting icon per action (📦 install, ✅ ensure, 🔍 probe, 🥾 bootstrap,
🚀 deploy, 🧩 service-module load, ⬇️ checkout, 📂 include-routines, ...)

Resolve 69 conflicts across ~70 files: union main's image-version bumps and new service fields (bond, resource limits) with the swarm branch's default_placement / NFS / IS_STACK_HOST config; retire the three per-deploy-type test workflows main still edited (consolidated into compose+swarm); adopt main's run-once 01_core dispatchers while re-applying each role's swarm guard. Fix the post-merge lint surfaced by main's stricter rules: bond + resource-budget keys, container-exec stack-host gating + resolver routing, leaky/dead proxy vars, suitecrm once-flag, xwiki variant nocheck, nextcloud oversized-block to gated include, matrix-mdad capped at 3g. make autoformat clean, make test green.

The OIDC login redirected to Keycloak and back with a valid code, but the server-side token exchange (daggerhart-openid-connect-generic wp_remote_post to the self-signed internal Keycloak) failed with 'cURL error 60: SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate' (60x in CI run 28018750880), so the user was never logged in and never redirected to /wp-admin. WordPress's HTTP API (WpOrg\Requests) pins CURLOPT_CAINFO to its own bundled wp-includes/certificates/ca-bundle.crt and ignores the OS trust store and the CURL_CA_BUNDLE/SSL_CERT_FILE env vars, so the earlier ca-certificates Dockerfile change had no effect.
Add a mu-plugin that filters http_request_args to set sslcertificates to the OS CA bundle (/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt), which the compose CA-injection populates with the internal root CA, so wp_remote_* TLS verifies the internal cert. Not a green-wash: no assertion weakened, no_sslverify left false (verification stays ON), the test still requires a real OIDC round-trip to /wp-admin.

Relocate the wordpress per-addon task files from tasks/plugins/ to tasks/addons/ (pure renames) and repoint tasks/main.yml, giving every role a uniform tasks/addons/ layout. Remove roles/web-app-xwiki/meta/addons/matomo.yml: matomo is provided as a service via services.matomo, not an Extension-Manager extension, and the org.xwiki.contrib:matomo extension does not exist in the nexus catalog (install plan failed).

Reconcile main's object-store feature and pre-swarm deploy tasks with the branch's compose/networks/volumes SPOT and swarm lints.
objstore (seaweedfs/minio): standalone compose + embedded service templates migrated to the container_image/container_volumes/container_networks/compose_volumes/compose_networks/depends_on lookups; meta/volumes.yml on the canonical dict schema with s3.json and nginx.conf as type:config; embedded services made swarm-compatible via compose_only/compose_restart.
deploy tasks (erpnext, opentalk, seaweedfs, shopware, snipe-it, wordpress, yourls): container exec routed through the container_address resolver and gated on IS_STACK_HOST, shell module plus stack_host_template, no chdir or compose-verb forms.
Also removed orphaned vars, restored MAILU_INSTANCE_DIR, freed the seaweedfs subnet (192.168.206.0/24), stripped literal quotes from the nextcloud/bookwyrm env templates, and routed main's objstore compose_volumes tests through dir_var_lib.
