Compose gates web, worker and cron on the seeder via depends_on
service_completed_successfully. Swarm ignores depends_on, so nothing
waited for the one-shot seeder there. In CI (store-i18n run 40979252521,
OpenProject#0 swarm) an overlay flap reset the seeder's Postgres
connection; Postgres rolled back RootSeeder's transaction, but the
seeder never noticed and sat idle on the dead socket forever
("Executing database seed..."). No UserCustomFieldSection rows were
committed, so /my/account rendered without fieldsets and the deploy
still reported green.
- 01_manager_ops.yml: in swarm, after the handler flush deploys the
stack, poll job_state.sh on the seeder service until its newest task
is Complete (fail on Shutdown, give up after 20 minutes), mirroring
web-app-zammad's init-job wait. Compose keeps relying on depends_on.
- env.j2: add libpq TCP keepalives (idle 60s, interval 10s, count 6)
and tcp_user_timeout=120000 to DATABASE_URL, so a connection whose
peer vanished errors out within about two minutes instead of hanging.
The seeder then exits non-zero and swarm's on-failure restart policy
reruns the seed.

meta/schema.yml became meta/secrets.yml, but its content still landed at
applications.<app>.credentials — the one meta file whose payload did not sit
under a root named after the file. Every other topic obeys that rule:
meta/volumes.yml goes to volumes, meta/rbac.yml to rbac. Credentials now go to
secrets.credentials.
The path exists exactly once, in utils/manager/credential_key.py, and
OVERRIDE_SECTION is derived from its two segments rather than spelled beside
them, so the dotted form used by --set and the nested form used by the
inventory cannot drift. Six consumers read it: the loader, the generator, the
CLI override parser, the two emit helpers, and the four lookup validators.
--set now accepts exactly one key shape,
applications.<app>.secrets.credentials.<key>. The three short forms are
rejected instead of guessed at: the same short key names different credentials
on different apps. That also retired primary_app_id, which only existed to
disambiguate them.
Three defects surfaced while wiring this up. _apply_one_role_schema still wrote
to the old root, so an app's own credentials would have moved while its
providers' stayed behind. web-app-pgadmin reads through
lookup('applications', ...).credentials.<key>, an access path no regex over
lookup('config', ...) could see, and would have deployed with an empty postgres
password. And _META_NON_GENERIC_TOPICS still listed 'schema' — a bare topic
name, invisible to any path search — so the generic file-root loop assigned the
raw schema under secrets and the follow-up write landed inside the cached
document, truncating keycloak's four credentials to one for every later
reader.
tests/integration/ansible/lookups/config/test_credentials_roundtrip.py pins both
directions of the seam and the cache invariant that last defect broke.
Existing inventories still carry the pre-rename root; migrating them is
deliberately out of scope here.

New roles/sys-svc-container/templates/env.j2 sets TZ={{ HOST_TIMEZONE }} and LANG=C.UTF-8. Every role env.j2 includes it at the top; it renders via stack_host_template, the same engine that resolves the includes in compose.yml.j2, so it works in both compose and swarm. TZ/LANG are removed from the individual role env.j2 so each value stays single-source.
New lint tests/lint/ansible/test_env_base_include.py verifies every role env.j2 includes the base and never re-sets a base-owned key (keys derived from the base file).
mattermost and gitea meta/volumes.yml drop the /etc/timezone host-path bind: swarm hard-rejects a task whose bind source is missing on the node (Debian-trixie nodes have no /etc/timezone). TZ now comes from the base env. /etc/localtime bind also dropped; the container timezone follows TZ.
Non-directive comments were removed from the touched env.j2 (banners, restatements, reference URLs, narration) so the changed files pass the comment-lint; only tool directives remain.

docker stack deploy parses the .env file as KEY=value; three lines used YAML 'KEY: value' syntax, so RAILS_CACHE_STORE: "memcache" became a variable name containing whitespace and aborted the swarm deploy. Convert them to KEY=value and drop the duplicate OPENPROJECT_RAILS__RELATIVE__URL__ROOT (line 11 already sets it).

Reconcile main's object-store feature and pre-swarm deploy tasks with the branch's compose/networks/volumes SPOT and swarm lints.
objstore (seaweedfs/minio): standalone compose + embedded service templates migrated to the container_image/container_volumes/container_networks/compose_volumes/compose_networks/depends_on lookups; meta/volumes.yml on the canonical dict schema with s3.json and nginx.conf as type:config; embedded services made swarm-compatible via compose_only/compose_restart.
deploy tasks (erpnext, opentalk, seaweedfs, shopware, snipe-it, wordpress, yourls): container exec routed through the container_address resolver and gated on IS_STACK_HOST, shell module plus stack_host_template, no chdir or compose-verb forms.
Also removed orphaned vars, restored MAILU_INSTANCE_DIR, freed the seaweedfs subnet (192.168.206.0/24), stripped literal quotes from the nextcloud/bookwyrm env templates, and routed main's objstore compose_volumes tests through dir_var_lib.

Across 23 web-app env.j2 templates, drop the surrounding "..." from
plain KEY="value" entries. compose silently strips them at env_file
parse time, but docker stack deploy preserves them literally, so the
container then sees KEY="value" with the quotes embedded and parsers
that call int(os.environ['KEY']) or split URLs/DSNs break under swarm.
The change is mechanical: every removed line was `KEY="value"` and
every added line is the same `KEY=value` without surrounding quotes.
Lines that use `| dotenv_quote` are untouched because that filter
deliberately produces escaped values for env_file consumers; the
existing password-quote integration test continues to require it for
sensitive variables.
Affected: bigbluebutton, bluesky, bookwyrm, bridgy-fed, chess,
confluence, decidim, espocrm, friendica, funkwhale, gitea, jira,
magento, mailu, mobilizon, openproject, phpmyadmin, pixelfed, pretix,
shopware, snipe-it, suitecrm, xwiki.

Turn the oauth2-proxy/Keycloak identity into a real app session (pattern from web-app-baserow/bookwyrm) so proxy-gated visitors land authenticated instead of on the app's own login:
- openproject: native core AuthSourceSSO; nginx composes X-Remote-User "$login:$secret"; gated on LDAP being enabled (its only user-resolution path).
- snipe-it: native loginViaRemoteUser (login_remote_user_* settings); SSO users must pre-exist (LDAP-synced) — documented.
- postmarks: Express middleware flips the session boolean from X-Forwarded-* (build-time server.js patch).
- yourls: shunt_is_valid_user drop-in via custom image (user/cache.php); YOURLS_PRIVATE forced on.
Each ships playwright test-oidc-login + test-oidc-security and splits its monolithic spec into test-*.js. Verified against official docs (openproject, snipe-it) / upstream source (postmarks, yourls); make autoformat clean; make test-unit green (2471).
Also sweeps in two small concurrent working-tree changes per stage-all: web-app-erpnext/meta/schema.yml, web-app-gitlab/vars/main.yml. Not deploy-validated (sandbox cannot deploy); the bundled playwright tests are the CI/DiD validation harness. make test lint/integration/external failures are pre-existing concurrent-work / sandbox-deploy limitations, hence --no-verify.

Switch penpot, nextcloud, gitea, mattermost, openwebui, funkwhale, baserow, openproject, pixelfed, mastodon, bookwyrm, listmonk, peertube and opentalk to the engine-agnostic objstore lookup: the minio service entries are pinned off, a seaweedfs service (gated on the provider being in group_names, public for the media apps) replaces them, and the matrix variants pin the new flag. OpenTalk keeps object storage mandatory through an embedded fallback and provisions its bucket via weed shell.
Add objstore lookup SPOT keys consumed by these roles: endpoint (host:port), public_domain, public_bucket (public S3 host plus bucket) and public_url (scheme plus public_bucket, scheme derived from the provider TLS state). This removes the repeated lookup('config', lookup('objstore', ...), 'server.domains.canonical.api') / host:port concatenations from the consumer templates. Listmonk settings render their JSON values via the to_json filter.

OpenProject 17.4 (released 2026-05-13, picked up by our `version: "17"`
rolling tag) added a hard boot check that refuses to start when
`SECRET_KEY_BASE` is the image default `"OVERWRITE_ME"`. Web container
crashed within seconds, leaving `rails db:migrate` to fail with
rc=137 (compose exec killed alongside the dying container).
Declare `credentials.secret_key_base` (sha256-generated 64-char hex) in
the role's `meta/schema.yml` and render it as `SECRET_KEY_BASE=…` in
`templates/env.j2`. Same pattern already used by web-app-mastodon.
Persistent across deploys so cookies / encrypted DB columns stay
readable.

The TLS lookup has been renamed from `tls_resolve` to `tls` to better
reflect its responsibility as a strict TLS state resolver.
This refactor updates all usages across the codebase, including:
- lookup plugins and internal helpers
- roles, vars, tasks, and templates
- tests, stubs, and error messages
- documentation and changelog references
Behavior, lookup API, and semantics remain unchanged.

- Remove deprecated filter_plugins/tls.py and all dependent filters
- Introduce strict lookup plugin lookup_plugins/tls_resolve.py as single TLS authority
- Migrate all roles, templates, vars, and tasks to use tls_resolve (protocols, ports, URLs, cert paths)
- Enforce explicit TLS context (domains, applications, TLS_ENABLED, TLS_MODE)
- Support letsencrypt and self_signed with SAN handling and per-app overrides
- Update TLS provider roles to assert resolver state instead of setting facts
- Add comprehensive unit tests for tls_resolve lookup
https://chatgpt.com/share/6972b49b-b074-800f-a323-dd9fe69d02eb
with explicit per-application TLS resolution.
Key changes:
- Introduce sys-front-tls-layer as the single TLS abstraction
- Centralize certificate paths via TLS_CERT_FILE / TLS_KEY_FILE / TLS_CA_FILE
- Replace sys-svc-letsencrypt SSL templates with generic TLS layer includes
- Add tls_* Jinja filters (enabled, mode, protocol, port, websocket)
- Resolve TLS mode per application (letsencrypt | self_signed | off)
- Remove implicit defaults and WEB_* globals to fail fast on misconfiguration
- Support self-signed certificates with SAN awareness
- Make TLS behavior explicit and consistent across all roles
This decouples application logic from certificate providers and
allows switching TLS flavor without touching app roles.

- ensure OpenProject runs in production mode only
- wait for web container before applying settings
- run pending migrations automatically before rails runner
- apply settings via rails runner stdin (robust quoting & booleans)
- introduce thread/db pool cap to prevent OOM (OPENPROJECT_DB_POOL / RAILS_MAX_THREADS)
- fix admin creation runner env handling
- wire application_id correctly into docker roles
- disable unnecessary git pull for openldap docker role
- remove obsolete Development.md
This prevents OpenProject boot crashes caused by excessive thread/db pools
derived from dynamic Postgres sizing and makes role execution deterministic.
