The list form could publish a host:container pair and nothing else, so thirteen blocks stayed hand-written: the ones needing a protocol suffix, a port range, the swarm long syntax with mode host, or a container-port-only publish. Each of those duplicated numbers the role already declares in meta/services.yml, which is the drift the lookup exists to remove.
The lookup keeps the list form unchanged for its 93 existing call sites and gains a dict form: transport emits one item per protocol, container 'same' serves the services that cannot remap (STUN/TURN, media relays), mode 'host' emits the long block an edge role needs in swarm so the client address survives the hop, publish 'ephemeral' emits the container port alone, and key names the block for Discourse's launcher file, whose expose: list is what becomes docker run -p there. A declared {start, end} mapping renders as start-end on both sides, so a relay range needs no term of its own.
svc-prx-openresty had no ports block at all and bound 80 and 443 as literals in its template, while torrc.j2 carried a third literal 80 for the hidden service. None of the three referenced the others. openresty now declares the ports, the compose template reads them, and the onion's port 80 comes from ports.onion.http through TOR_ONION_EXTRA_PORTS.
Three blocks stay raw, each with the reason it cannot route through one call: keycloak's sso_proxy maps a published port owned by the consuming role to a container port owned by web-app-keycloak, and matrix's ansible flavor takes element on 8080 and federation on 8048 from the upstream playbook rather than from this repo's ports.internal.
The enforcing lint scanned only files with compose in the name and only double-quoted list items, so nine of the thirteen blocks were invisible to it. It now reads every role template that can carry a ports block, catches unquoted items, protocol suffixes, ranges, flow style and the long syntax, and tracks the block by the indentation of its key: keying on the next line closed the block on anything shaped like a key, which target, published, protocol and mode all are. Under expose: only a real mapping counts, because there the single-segment form documents a container port and publishes nothing.
Verified by rendering all 110 container_ports call sites through the real templar, the real lookup and the real merged applications view.

start_interval is the cadence while start_period runs, and only while it runs.
Once the window closes the probe falls back to interval, so a service that
becomes ready just after it pays a whole tick anyway and the cadence never
reached it. Six of the seven flavors were shaped that way, Curl worst: a thirty
second window against a one minute interval.
Measured across 151 converge waits in four job logs, 63 sit exactly on a tick
boundary, 36 in the thirty second step and 27 in the sixty second one.
Attributed by application, web-app-seaweedfs is the largest at 1501s over
sixteen waits with a median of 57.7s: it probes with curl and fell straight into
the gap. web-app-zammad probes with connect, whose window is fifteen minutes,
and its 154s median is real boot time with nothing to recover.
So the window moves to ten minutes and the steady state interval to two, and the
flavor overrides that sat below them go: Curl, Wget and Connect lose interval
1m, Http its twenty second window, Nc its ten. Connect keeps fifteen minutes.
Neither number costs anything while a container works. start_period delays
nothing, it only stops failures counting, and interval no longer touches
convergence at all since that hangs on the window alone; it is steady state
load, which drops from 120 probes an hour per service to 30.
Forty six role files follow. Twenty seven declarations go that repeat the new
default or undercut it, an undercut window being the defect itself. Eight
windows longer than ten minutes keep their value and now say why. The literal
blocks and the three Dockerfiles this repository builds spell every timing out,
because outside the lookup an omission takes docker's value and not the
platform's.
A fourth lint rule keeps the shape: start_period must outlast one interval,
checked against the effective values, so raising interval without the window
cannot quietly bring the cliff back.
Two faults in the lint surfaced while building it and are fixed here. It
compared timings as strings, so 600s and 10m read as different values, and it
matched the healthcheck key exactly, so a line carrying a trailing nocheck was
skipped whole, which is how the two swarm-init partials went unexamined.
One regression, bounded. A container that starts and never turns healthy is
neither rejected nor errored, so stack_ready.sh only calls it fatal after three
killed tasks, and each cycle now spans the longer window. That reaches twenty
minutes rather than six, capped there by swarm_stack_converge_retries at 600
with a two second delay, and it lands only on runs that were failing anyway.

A healthcheck written outside the container_healthcheck lookup inherits nothing
from utils/docker/healthcheck, and docker offers nowhere to put a replacement.
daemon.json carries storage, logging, DNS, registries and runtimes, and no
health key at all, so an omitted timing lands on docker's own value rather than
the platform's. The two disagree where it matters most: docker starts a
container with no start period, which leaves start_interval no window to act in.
That is why the hand-written blocks never gained the cadence.
The three images this repository builds itself now carry it. openldap and
postgres also drop to the platform interval, and bluesky gains the start window
it never had:
svc-db-openldap/files/Dockerfile --interval=30s ... --start-interval=5s
svc-db-postgres/templates/Dockerfile.j2 --interval=30s ... --start-interval=5s
web-app-bluesky/.../Dockerfile --start-period=30s --start-interval=5s
Six literal blocks move to the platform interval as well: magento, redis,
elasticsearch, matrix and both sys-svc-rdbms partials. Since start_interval
exists, interval no longer touches convergence and is steady state load alone.
Sixteen values that stay where they are now name the mechanism that keeps them
there. Two are worth reading. web-app-kix overrides start_period and nothing
else on purpose, letting the image's own HEALTHCHECK supply test, interval,
timeout and retries; filling those in would have overwritten what upstream tuned.
The memcached and redis swarm-init partials probe every second and deliberately
run with no start window, which is why start_interval is absent rather than
forgotten.
The rest name their probe: occ boots the whole Nextcloud stack, tor re-parses
its torrc instead of asking a running service, opensearch is still forming a
cluster, matrix waits on a file another step writes to a share.

42ebd9ea71 gave the healthcheck SPOT start_interval, the cadence docker uses
while start_period is still running. A block a template writes out itself
bypasses the SPOT and never gained it. Measured across the repository: 46 such
blocks, 40 of them already carrying start_period, not one carrying
start_interval.
Without it a probe fires only every interval, so a service ready after two
seconds is reported healthy at the next tick and a stack converges no faster
than its coarsest quantisation. That lands in sys-svc-compose's swarm converge
wait, 1551.7s per CI job over 38 stack deploys.
Twenty five of the blocks move into meta/services.yml and render through
container_healthcheck. Each keeps an explicit test rather than picking a flavor:
a flavor would replace the command instead of carrying it across.
The move is lossless by construction. probes.py block() writes
overrides.get(key, default) for interval, timeout, retries, start_period and
start_interval, so a declaration repeating the literal values renders the same
block plus the missing cadence. Checked per block against the old values: the
only difference is start_interval 5s, nothing changed, nothing lost.
Twenty one stay literal. Seventeen interpolate a template variable, whose value
resolves in a scope meta/services.yml does not share, so moving them would be a
rewrite rather than a transcription. Four interpolate nothing and still cannot
move: svc-db-memcached and svc-db-redis probe every second in their swarm
service partial, where a 5s start cadence would report healthy later than the
block already does, and the sys-svc-rdbms and keycloak sso_proxy partials render
for the consuming role's application_id, so their declaration has no single
meta/services.yml to live in. Each carries a nocheck naming its reason.
All twenty one gain start_interval. Three also gain start_period, without which
the key does nothing at all, since it only applies while the start period runs.
That widens their failure tolerance rather than narrowing it: bluesky from 90 to
120 seconds, magento from 50 to 80, the mariadb partial from 180 to 210.
pixelfed spelled its probe as a bare string and now spells it CMD-SHELL. Docker
reads both as a shell command; only the YAML shape changes.

The hub serves 94 tools across 23 categories, write tools included, and enabling the ExApp switches every category on. That surface was published on the public vhost and every discovered client was handed an app password for it. svc-ai-mcp-adapter now sits in front in mcp_passthrough mode: clients present credentials.mcp_bearer to contextagentmcp and reach the nine read tools of calendar, contacts and files, which files/mcp/tools.json names and the sidecar enforces per call. Those three categories are the ones whose upstream is_available is unconditional, so the served set does not vary with which optional apps a deployment installs.
Enforcing it in the sidecar rather than in each client is what makes it hold: web-app-openwebui renders no per-tool filter at all, so a client-side include list would have bounded two consumers out of three.
06c13e7f3e withdrew the declared path from the edge for exactly this reason - "that surface is what the adapter exists to narrow". Nextcloud answers the same route under a second spelling, without the /index.php front controller, which try_files rewrites back onto the route after the edge has already declined to block it. The withdrawal becomes a regex covering both, and only where stripping the front controller changes the path, so the four adapter providers without one render unchanged.
The app password is minted after the stack renders, so it reaches the sidecar through upstream.env and rebuild.yml rather than the compose environment: compose up resolves env_file while creating the container, a restart does not. The sidecar is the last service in the template because a Jinja set has no block scope and its env_file would otherwise displace the one talk, whiteboard and talk_recording each carry.
Two suites cover what nothing measured: the vhost template rendered without a container, asserting both spellings are withdrawn, and every shipped tools.json loaded through the adapter own loader, so a bad contract fails in a second instead of as a probe timing out an hour into a deploy. The guest spec probed mcp.endpoint.path, which this change makes the proxy answer 404 for its own reasons; it now probes all three public paths and requires no MCP body.
Not yet deployed: the sidecar build, the upstream.env delivery and the hub answering exactly nine tools are unverified against a running stack.

834 commits from the Tor onion-service branch against 299 of ours, from merge
base 7b646bdece: 127 conflicted files, 3506 files changed.
The two sides are largely orthogonal. Theirs adds svc-net-tor and a `tor` service
across the role tree, plus two sweeping refactors: shipped scripts sorted by
language (files/ruby/, files/python/, files/shell/, scripts/lint/*.sh) and the
unit suite moved under tests/unit/python/. Ours is requirement 036, the native AI
gateway, plus the MCP role work. Most conflicts were both sides appending to the
same service map, resolved as unions.
Resolutions that were not unions:
Credentials moved namespace. Theirs renamed meta/schema.yml to meta/secrets.yml
and re-addressed credentials as secrets.credentials.<name>. Git carried our
litellm_api_key blocks through the rename, but every consumer we added still read
'credentials.<name>', which no longer resolves. All 45 call sites are migrated.
plugins/filter/container_volumes.py is deleted by theirs and relocated to
plugins/lookup/container_volumes.py, where it carries the same tmpfs defect our
f85996b43 had just fixed: a hard-coded {"size": ...} that silently drops a per
mount `mode`. The fix is re-applied in the relocated file, as that commit's merge
note anticipated.
compose.yml keeps only INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_REPORTS_BASE_DIR. Theirs also forwards
INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_STAGE_BASE_DIR; that line is deliberately dropped, per the
analysis recorded in 45804e9ad -- STAGE has a drift-proof role-vars fallback,
while forwarding it promotes a setdefault-pinnable .env value above that SPOT.
tasks/stages/01_constructor.yml takes their include, ./tasks/utils/setup/group.yml,
because their refactor removed tasks/groups/*-roles.yml, leaving our include
target nonexistent. Our task name is kept, since svc-virt is in the loop.
Makefile swarm-zombie is a union: their validate plus teardown, then our
lab_subnet cleanup, which their side dropped while leaving lab_subnet.sh as the
only orphaned reference in the file.
01_bootstrap.sh keeps our deterministic --ip pinning, which distinguishes an
already-attached node from a real failure, over their `|| true`.
Their language-sorted layout orphaned references our side still held: zammad's
two scripts/apply/*.rb, jenkins' java-with-ca-trust.sh, and the notify topics
their handlers renamed to hyphenated form. All corrected.
roles/sys-svc-compose/files/shell/swarm/stack_ready.sh gains our latched-update
block: paused, rollback_paused, rollback_started and rollback_completed exit 2
rather than polling a state that cannot resolve without another deploy.
config_from_run is unioned to (title, logged, jobs); the production caller in
trigger/__main__.py now passes jobs, without which our suite suppression would
have been inert.
READMEs are regenerated rather than hand-merged: 15 LiteLLM rows and 91 Tor rows
now derive from the merged metadata, which is itself evidence the meta merge is
coherent.
Verified: 5161 unit tests pass. The single failure, test_query.py TestSortSpec,
also fails on fork/feature/svc-net-tor at b51d2f9919, measured in a baseline
worktree -- so this merge introduces no new unit-test failure. Two modules are
excluded from that run because `baudolo`, a dependency their branch introduces,
is not installed on this host.
Not verified: no deploy has run against the merged tree, and make quality has not
been run end to end here.

The context_agent ExApp calls back into the same php-fpm pool it is being
proxied from: its UserAuthMiddleware resolves the bearer against
/ocs/v2.php/cloud/user while a child is already parked forwarding the MCP
request out to the ExApp. Every in-flight MCP request therefore occupies TWO
children. Below twice mcp.limits.concurrent_requests the two legs deadlock, and
because the ExApp's callback carries no timeout the pool never recovers -- which
is why the Context Agent sat unhealthy rather than merely slow.
services.nextcloud.performance.php.fpm now sizes the pool explicitly:
max_children 16, start_servers 4, min/max spare 4/8. request_terminate_timeout
is 900s and must not drop below the proxy's fastcgi_read_timeout; lower kills a
child while nginx is still waiting on it, equal means only work nginx has
already abandoned gets reclaimed.
The readiness path was spending the same scarce workers. /healthz/ready had no
location of its own, so it fell through to `location /`, was rewritten to
/index.php/healthz/ready and booted a full Nextcloud request on a php-fpm child
once per probe interval against a pool of five. It is an exact-match location
returning 200 from nginx now, with access_log off, and never reaches PHP.
The pool file is rendered through render_replicated_templates.yml so swarm peers
receive it too, and mounted from meta/volumes.yml at a path that sorts after
zz-docker.conf, which reopens the [www] section last -- mount it earlier and the
image's own values win while the deploy looks correct.
The context_agent healthcheck moves from a hand-written probe in compose.yml.j2
to the shared container_healthcheck lookup, declared as flavor curl on path
heartbeat with start_period 20m. The ExApp installs dependencies on first boot
and legitimately outlives a 60s start period, which is the other half of why it
reported unhealthy.
Not verified: none of this has deployed. max_children 16 is derived from twice
concurrent_requests rather than measured against real memory use, and the
mount-ordering requirement is read from the image layout rather than confirmed
against a merged pool config in a running container -- if it sorts wrong the
whole change is inert while appearing correct. request_terminate_timeout 900s
also means a genuinely stuck request now holds a child for fifteen minutes.

The mount pipeline was split across two layers: compose_volumes and
container_volumes lived as filter modules that ansible's filter loader
rejected on every start ("has no attribute 'FilterModule'", two warnings
per run), while the same-named lookups wrapped them thinly. The filter
bodies now live inside their lookups (the tor_socks precedent), the
filter files are gone, and the render tests moved next to the lookup
tests.
As lookups they see the templating context, so the application_id term
every call site passed back to its own role is gone too: both lookups
read application_id from context and fail loudly when it is missing.
107 templates and nfs_prep.yml drop the term; the calls collapse to
lookup('compose_volumes') and lookup('container_volumes', service_name).
The container_volumes call is now canonical - four leading spaces,
service_name in the service position, | indent(4) - enforced by a new
lint (test_container_volumes_call_shape). Normalizing the 85 literal
call sites surfaced that erpnext keyed its meta/volumes.yml mounts by
container name instead of compose service key, the only role to do so;
its meta now uses the service keys. wordpress's column-0 call, which
rendered its first line at top level, is indented like every other.
Template logic that only restated meta/volumes.yml is deleted: mailu fed
compose_volumes an extra_volumes dict whose eight names were looked up
from the very meta file compose_volumes reads itself; zammad's init and
railsserver extra mounts were the volumes.yml entries minus the two
services, which the meta now lists (the when-gated OIDC binds included).
Conditionality that meta cannot express stays in code, but in role-local
lookup plugins instead of template loops: matrix_bridge_mounts renders
the per-bridge registration mounts, nextcloud_extra_volumes the
feature-gated whiteboard/recording volumes (type: volume entries are
declared unconditionally by compose_volumes, so gating must happen
before it).
Parity is proven, not assumed: every mechanically rewritten template is
byte-identical to HEAD after the transformation regexes (95/95), and the
semantic roles render identically through the real functions against
HEAD's meta - zammad across six sso/tls polarities, all seven erpnext
services, mailu's top level. make test-lint passes complete.
Also: suitecrm's compose template pins container_extra_hosts with
host_alias (the SOCKS proxy URL host.docker.internal never resolved in
compose+tor), and the five disabled mautrix bridge addons use the
empty-default config lookup so templating the applications dict stops
emitting 125 errors per batch in every CI job.

extra_hosts is the one compose key a service may not carry twice. The onion SSO
back-channel pin was emitted by a Jinja partial that six roles included, while
six other services wrote the key by hand; nothing stopped a service from
receiving both. YAML then either rejects the document or keeps one list and
drops the other, silently.
The partial becomes plugins/lookup/container_extra_hosts.py, and every pin now
goes through it. Callers add their own entries with extra_hosts=[...], the way
container_volumes already takes extra_volumes=, and the lookup merges them after
the automatic pin and deduplicates in first-seen order. With nothing to emit it
returns an empty string.
The swarm address reasoning from 7b1839681 is preserved and now written down in
the plugin rather than only in that commit: the pin must NOT be host-gateway in
swarm, because that alias resolves per node while openresty publishes :80 with
mode: host under node.role == manager. It carries the stack host's address,
which reaches every task because the compose file is rendered once with the
manager as inventory host. The mode is read as compose_mode_force or
DEPLOYMENT_MODE, not the bare cluster mode, so a role with an override does not
lose its pin and its overlay at once.
Two roles kept a pin that now collides with the automatic one, and both are
resolved the same way -- the hand-written entry stays for clearnet and yields
the .onion case to the lookup, which picks the address per mode. In
web-app-mailu the three conditional entries move into a role-local
mailu_extra_hosts lookup exposed as MAILU_EXTRA_HOSTS, because an eight-line
conditional expression in the template argument is worse than the block it
replaced. It returns its entries as separate results, so vars/main.yml uses
query(); plain lookup() would join them into one comma-separated string.
tests/lint/ansible/jinja/test_compose_extra_hosts_use_lookup.py fails on any
literal extra_hosts: key in a role template, so the invariant survives the next
author who needs a pin. It follows test_compose_ports_use_container_ports_lookup:
the raw construct is forbidden, the lookup is not mandated per service -- a
service with no pins is correct without it, and the swarm branch raises when
facts are absent, which would turn a no-op into a failure surface for containers
that never speak OIDC.
Equivalence checked by rendering rather than by reading: under the trim_blocks +
lstrip_blocks the stack-host action forces for compose.yml.j2, both former call
site shapes (indented, and matrix's column 0) emit byte-identical text to the
new form when the block applies. The no-op case differs -- a whitespace-only
line where the include emitted none -- and yaml.safe_load returns the same
document for both.
31 unit tests; make test-lint 325 passed. Does not touch web-app-espocrm, whose
missing pin is a separate claim and gets its own commit.

Seven include templates under sys-svc-container decided how a container was
probed, and they read their inputs from template-local `{% set %}` scope.
That scope leaks: a value set for one service silently reached every service
below it, which is how taiga's front and gateway ended up probing a port
declared for a different service, and how bluesky's frontend probed a PDS
endpoint.
Probes now live in utils/docker/healthcheck.py, one class per flavor behind a
PROBES registry, and each service declares its own:
healthcheck:
flavor: curl
path: health/ready
start_period: 20m
`port_key` picks another entry under ports.internal for the services that
expose their probe elsewhere (keycloak on management, nextcloud talk on
signaling). Without a flavor the entry must carry an explicit test argv, so a
missing declaration fails loudly instead of rendering a probe against nothing.
Rendering HEAD's templates against the new output confirms 49 of 56 call
sites are byte-identical; the remaining seven are covered by an Ansible run.
Three probes change on purpose: erpnext's backend gains a check it never had,
bluesky's frontend drops the leaked PDS path, and msmtp_curl moves from a
hardcoded localhost:80 to the service's own port on 127.0.0.1 like every
other flavor.

Three conflicts, each resolved by combining both sides rather than picking one.
compose.yml passes both env vars through to the container: swarm-nfs adds
INFINITO_SWARM_MGR_IP, this branch adds INFINITO_TOR_SOCKS_PORT, and neither
substitutes for the other.
daemon.json.j2 takes the data-root block from swarm-nfs and keeps HEAD's dns
key. The incoming side writes networks.internet.dns directly; lookup(
'container_dns') already returns that value as its clearnet entry and prepends
the docker0 bridge on a Tor node in compose mode, so the incoming form is a
strict subset and dropping it loses nothing.
The WordPress CA-trust addon spec gains skipUnlessServiceEnabled("sso") from
swarm-nfs alongside HEAD's gotoOnion and resolveTimeout, and asserts on the
Plugin Name the mu-plugin header declares - the mustuse screen renders that,
not the filename - with resolveTimeout applied to the literal the incoming
side left bare.

occ status reads the shared volume, so it reports installed: true from
any replica whose php-fpm never started. That is how two of three swarm
tasks stayed healthy with FailingStreak 0 while serving nothing: swarm
kept them in the service VIP backend set and roughly two thirds of
fastcgi connects were refused, which the front nginx turned into 502.
Require the listener before the state check. A socket probe against the
declared fpm port fails immediately when nothing is listening, and only
then does the existing occ status run, so both claims have to hold.
The port comes from the same single point of truth the nginx sidecar
uses for its fastcgi target, so the probe and the proxy cannot drift.
The cron service keeps the state-only check on purpose: its entrypoint
is cron.sh and it listens on no port.
This makes a replica that is stuck before php-fpm visible instead of
advertised. A deploy whose replicas do not serve will now fail to
converge rather than report success.

The php-fpm listener port lived as a literal 9000 in the nginx sidecar
config, and the application user as a literal www-data in both
healthchecks, while the role already carried NEXTCLOUD_DOCKER_USER and
declares every other internal port in meta/services.yml.
Declare the listener as services.nextcloud.ports.internal.fpm and read
it through the config lookup, the same shape the moodle and magento
roles use for their fpm listeners and the same shape this role already
uses for the signaling and recording ports. That also satisfies the
port lint, which requires every *_PORT constant in a role's vars to
resolve through the lookup rather than carry a literal.
The rendered output is unchanged: the port is still 9000 and the user
is still www-data. After this change no www-data literal remains in the
role's code; the occurrences under docs/ stay as they are, since those
are copy-paste operator recipes.

Nextcloud carries no MCP server of its own, so the role runs the Context
Agent as an ExApp: render its container while MCP is enabled, wait for
its heartbeat, register it with AppAPI, add the MCP route, enable it, and
only then mint the app password clients present.
Split the credentials by origin. The shared secret between the AppAPI
proxy and the ExApp is generated by this deployment and stays a vault
credential; the app password is minted by Nextcloud through occ and is
persisted through sys-token-store instead.

On an onion node the OIDC issuer (Keycloak) is a .onion; libcurl (oidc_login's Guzzle client) refuses to resolve .onion per RFC 7686, so the server-side OIDC backchannel (discovery/token/jwks) fails. Set Nextcloud's system proxy to socks5h://host.docker.internal:<tor-socks> and expose the host Tor SOCKS to the app container via extra_hosts, both gated on SSO being enabled and the Keycloak domain being an onion. No-op on clearnet nodes.
Hoist the repeated services.sso.enabled and Keycloak-domain lookups into NEXTCLOUD_SSO_ENABLED and NEXTCLOUD_OIDC_HOST constants (mirroring MATRIX_OIDC_HOST) and use them across the role.

The occ-status probes (1m interval, 10s timeout, 3 retries) flipped
unhealthy during the recognize plugin install (575MB onto the NFS html
volume saturates the lab node), so swarm reaped the fpm and cron tasks
mid-install and wedged the DinD dockerd the retries kept exec-ing into.
Raise both probes to 30s timeout / 10 retries so a load storm outlasts
the healthcheck instead of the deploy.

The custom flag moves from 33 hardcoded template kwargs into the merged
service config: 'custom: true' names the shared <entity>_custom build,
a string names a second distinct '<string>_custom' image inside one app
(nextcloud whiteboard). The image lookup reads the declaration as a
fallback, so config consumers (e.g. backup image matching) resolve the
exact deployed reference from one declaration point. nextcloud cron now
runs the nextcloud_custom build like the app service instead of the
upstream image.
A new services lint couples the declaration to reality in both
directions: custom requires a role Dockerfile, and a role Dockerfile
requires a custom declaration. The eight legacy roles deploying local
builds under upstream tags or ad-hoc image= overrides are ratcheted via
'# nocheck: dockerfile-custom'.

First boot on loaded fork runners exceeded the healthcheck windows: swarm reaped moodle's fpm container after 60s+5x1m (exit 137 mid-install) and nextcloud's occ-status containers right at the 10m+3x1m boundary. Extend to 15m/20m following the joomla/espocrm/suitecrm precedent; container exits still reap immediately, only hanging unhealthy checks wait longer.

The container_address lookup emits $(...) shell syntax in swarm and
documents that callers must use the shell module; the 22 occ tasks
still used command:, so the resolution reached docker literally and
every plugin/LDAP/integration task died on all swarm variants. Convert
them to shell: (args stay single-quoted or [A-Za-z0-9] slugs, so
compose semantics are unchanged).
NFS mounts use local_lock=flock, which makes the stock entrypoint's
init flock node-local: concurrent replicas each won "exclusive" locks
and shredded the rsync install (occ 255, converge livelock). A small
init gate now fronts the entrypoint: only swarm task slot 1 runs the
init, other slots wait for version parity plus config.php; without
TASK_SLOT (compose) it degenerates to a plain exec. The gate ships as

The fpm/cron occ-status healthcheck rendered a 30s start_period, far shorter
than the (image-serialized) first-boot init, so swarm killed every task with
exit 137 mid-init and the stack never converged. Give both healthchecks a 10m
start_period and raise swarm_stack_converge_retries to 600.
The nextcloud image already serializes first boot across replicas (its own
init lock), so unpin fpm from replicas: 1 and let it run on every node; keep
cron pinned as a genuine singleton. For correct multi-instance runtime, follow
the Nextcloud caching recommendation: memcache.local => APCu in both modes,
memcache.distributed and memcache.locking => Redis in swarm, backed by an
explicit redis connection array (which also fixes the RedisException at occ
upgrade, where OC\Memcache\Redis previously fell back to 127.0.0.1).

docker stack deploy rejects volumes_from ('compose file contains
unsupported options'), so every nextcloud swarm variant died before the
stack was even created. Mount the shared data volume on the proxy
read-only via meta/volumes.yml instead; the render pipeline emits
data:/var/www/html/:ro and the proxy nginx only reads the tree
(try_files/static/fastcgi_pass; temp dirs live in the container fs).
Compose behaviour is equivalent, matching upstream fpm+nginx examples.

Every compose.yml.j2 now declares services as '{{ service_name }}:' with
its '{% set %}' knobs on two-space lines above the key, includes at four
spaces and if/for tags aligned to the content they wrap. The layout
renders correctly because stack_host_template enables lstrip_blocks for
compose.yml.j2; indent(4, True) in the container base and '{%+' guards
in whitespace-sensitive scalars keep the shared fragments identical
under both render modes. A new lint test enforces the skeleton.

Take the host IP as an optional third element of each term
([service, protocol, host_ip]) instead of an ip= kwarg, and build the whole
ports: block from declared ports.local/public (host) + ports.internal
(container). Convert every compose template across 84 roles, folding the
remaining raw var/numeric/specific-ip mappings (including mailu's per-interface
mail ports bound to MAILU_IP4_PUBLIC). Multi-term calls render one term per line.
Add the compose-ports-must-use-container-ports lint: it forbids any raw
"<host>:<published>:<container>" publish item under a ports: block and requires
every term to declare ports.internal. Remove
tests/lint/roles/test_swarm_internal_ports.py, now subsumed.
Fix a container_depends_on rendering regression. The lookup self-indented
(default indent=4), so the added 4-space placement + | indent(4) triple-indented
the block. Flip the lookup default to column 0 (consistent with
container_networks), make every call use the 4-space + | indent(4) form, and add
a lint enforcing it.

matomo: force-restart the swarm service after patching config.ini.php DB creds (the compose-up handler is a no-op in swarm), extracted into 10_resolve_host_cid. nextcloud: gate the redis PONG wait on the engine being local. prometheus: config 0444 (swarm config objects are root) and gate the host-monitor binds plus privileged cadvisor/node-exporter to compose only. dashboard: probe the public icon URL in swarm.

Convert the two registry-driven networks templates into pure-Python
rendering functions plus thin Ansible lookup plugins:
roles/sys-svc-compose/templates/networks.yml.j2 -> {{ lookup('compose_networks') }}
roles/sys-svc-container/templates/networks.yml.j2 -> {{ lookup('container_networks') | indent(4) }}
The rendering logic lives in utils/networks/render.py as pure-Python
functions that take a registry + closure-style config/database lookups,
making the logic directly unit-testable without a Jinja stub harness.
The lookup plugins are thin wrappers that resolve application_id,
DEPLOYMENT_MODE, and swarm.network.encryption from the templar, build
the service_registry, and forward to the render functions.
Migrate 233 include lines across 85 production templates. Convert
web-app-matrix's hand-coded MDAD networks block (default + conditional
postgres + conditional openldap) to the generic lookup; this adds an
openresty attachment when services.sso.enabled (harmless extra
interface, pinned in test_matrix_mdad_consumer_attaches_postgres_ldap_sso).
Mark local-DB / redis sidecars (sys-svc-rdbms/templates/services/,
svc-db-redis/templates/service.yml.j2) with `# nocheck: networks-literal`
because they intentionally attach to default-only.
Extend the lint to scan ALL roles/*/templates/**/*.yml.j2 (not only
compose.yml.j2) and to forbid the legacy include form; the marker
above is the documented escape hatch.
Coverage:
- tests/unit/utils/networks/test_render.py (30 cases incl. encrypted=false literal pin)
- tests/unit/plugins/lookup/test_compose_networks.py (5 cases incl. lookup_loader arg-schema)
- tests/unit/plugins/lookup/test_container_networks.py (5 cases incl. lookup_loader arg-schema)
- tests/integration/infrastructure/compose/test_networks_render.py (10 snapshot scenarios)
- tests/integration/infrastructure/compose/test_network_includes.py (3 lint rules)

Add plugins/lookup/container_image.py: returns the full `image: "<ref>"`
line so templates drop the redundant image: prefix and surrounding
quotes. Supports `custom=True` to auto-construct `<entity_name>_custom`
for locally-built images, plus explicit `image=`/`version=` overrides
for exotic cases (taiga back-auth/front-oidc variants, decidim infinito
suffix, etc.).
* 25 unit tests for the lookup cover compose vs swarm prefix, custom
flag, overrides, tag_only=True, missing version warnings.
* New strict lint (tests/lint/.../test_no_raw_image_in_compose_templates)
fails on any raw `image:` line in roles/*/templates/*.j2 unless
nocheck-suppressed. Legacy `image: "{{ lookup(...) }}"` form no
longer accepted.
* Migrate 159 image refs across ~80 roles to the standalone
`{{ lookup('container_image', application_id, '<service_key>') }}`
form. 26 roles use `custom=True` (mariadb, postgres, openldap,
jenkins, jira, gitlab, nextcloud, mediawiki, shopware, wordpress,
odoo, joomla, openproject, bookwyrm, espocrm, hugo, littlejs,
fediwall, roulette-wheel, openresty, confluence and more).
* Fix svc-db-redis application_id leak: service.yml.j2 is included
into consuming roles where application_id evaluates to the outer
role, so the image lookup needs the hardcoded 'svc-db-redis'.
* Integration tests (test_templates_require_image,
test_build_requires_image) recognise the standalone lookup as an
implicit `image:` at the same indent.
* Mediawiki swarm tasks: add explicit `:{{ MEDIAWIKI_VERSION }}` to
the registry-prefixed image string because the custom var is now
bare.
Only 3 legitimate exotic nocheck-suppressed image lines remain:
matrix-mdad runner (nested services.matrix.runner.image path),
matrix mautrix bridges (per-iteration dynamic) and svc-registry-docker
(chicken-and-egg self-reference).

Migrate every role's meta/volumes.yml from ad-hoc dict-of-named-volumes
to a canonical dict-of-dicts schema where the YAML key is the semantic
short name and the entry body carries type / name / source / mounts /
nfs / mode / read_only. The optional 'name:' field is the docker volume
name (defaults to the key); the previous 'docker_name:' field is gone.
What's in this commit (210 paths):
Infrastructure (23)
- New filter plugins/filter/{compose,container}_volumes.py — render the
top-level volumes:/configs:/secrets: section and per-service mount
blocks from the canonical meta. container_volumes uses the SEMANTIC
name as per-service mount source so it resolves against compose_volumes'
top-level dict key (docker_name as source produced 'undefined volume'
on swarm).
- New lookup plugins/lookup/{compose,container,volume}_volumes.py.
volume(application_id, name) returns a normalised single entry;
volume(application_id) returns the whole canonical dict.
- utils/cache/applications.py keeps a sibling registry
_CANONICAL_VOLUMES_BY_ROLE outside the merged applications payload so
raw Jinja source: strings never enter the templar walk (root-cause of
the 200x cache-miss + recursive get_merged_applications storm).
- utils/roles/applications/mounts.py — schema validator + normaliser;
list-shape is rejected.
- plugins/lookup/nginx.py: _volume_path_by_name reads canonical directly.
- scripts/tests/deploy/swarm/_context.sh: NFS_VOLUMES extraction handles
both legacy dict and canonical dict shapes.
- roles/svc-prx-openresty/handlers/restart_and_validate.yml: gate
compose-only validate+reload behind a single when-block; swarm uses
service-update instead (bind-mounts of a FILE pin source inode at
task-create time, so atomic write-tmp+rename leaves the running task
on a deleted inode).
- roles/sys-svc-compose/tasks/utils/nfs_prep.yml: switch to
lookup('volume', application_id) | dict2items so NFS subdir
pre-creation works under the new cache split.
Tests (12)
- New strict lints flagging inline mount sections in compose templates,
single-file bind mounts, and legacy lookup('config', ..., 'volumes.X.Y')
call sites — all volume-mount surfaces MUST flow through container_volumes
/ compose_volumes / volume lookups.
- Integration: test_volumes_compose_chain + test_volume_constants_are_lookups
accept both the legacy and the new lookup('volume', app, 'X').name forms
during the migration window.
- Unit tests for the new lookup, filter, mounts helper, plus updated
nginx lookup test.
- Prometheus role-wiring test reads canonical meta for the
alert_rules.yml bind mount.
Role migrations (175)
- 62 meta/volumes.yml converted to dict-of-dicts canonical shape
- 63 templates/compose*.yml.j2 replace inline volumes:/configs:/secrets:
with lookup('container_volumes', application_id, '<service>') |
indent(N) per service + a single trailing lookup('compose_volumes',
application_id) for the top-level block
- 50 vars/main.yml drop dead volume constants and refactor 23 remaining
legacy lookup('config', ..., 'volumes.X.Y') to lookup('volume',
application_id, 'X').Y across 9 roles

The compose/swarm split on `depends_on:` shape (map form with
`condition:` vs. list form, per `docker stack deploy` constraint)
was being hand-coded as a `{% if DEPLOYMENT_MODE == 'swarm' %}` gate
around every block. Repetitive, easy to forget, and templates that
did remember it had to repeat the same six-line pattern per service.
The new `depends_on` lookup encapsulates the shape switch:
{{ lookup('depends_on', {SVC: 'service_healthy', …}) }} # mapping
{{ lookup('depends_on', [SVC_A, SVC_B]) }} # all default
- Compose -> map form with explicit `condition:` per entry.
- Swarm -> list form (just names; swarm ignores depends_on
ordering semantically but accepts the syntax).
- Mapping `None` value uses the default condition (`service_started`,
matching Docker Compose's behaviour when no condition is given).
- Plain list of names uses the default for every entry.
The output is shaped so the call site reads naturally at the
service-member column:
some_service:
image: …
{{ lookup('depends_on', {DB: 'service_healthy'}) }} # at col 4
volumes: …
Concretely the lookup emits line 1 WITHOUT leading whitespace and
lines 2+ with the `indent` kwarg (default 4) plus the YAML-relative
nested indent. Jinja substitution applies the template's leading
spaces to line 1 only, so the column-4 call placement makes
`depends_on:` land at column 4 and the children at 6 / 8. Lines 2+
carry their own indent because Jinja does not propagate template-side
leading whitespace to continuation lines.
Plugin + tests:
- plugins/lookup/depends_on.py: ~190 lines. Mapping / list / empty
input handling, default_condition kwarg, condition validation
against the closed set `{service_started, service_healthy,
service_completed_successfully}`, DEPLOYMENT_MODE resolution via
templar with `mode=` test-only override, indent kwarg semantics
documented in the module docstring.
- tests/unit/plugins/lookup/test_depends_on.py: 27 cases covering
TestInputNormalisation (mapping / list / empty / typo / single
string rejection / non-string sequence rejection / unsupported
type rejection / arity errors), TestModeBehaviour (compose / swarm
/ unknown-falls-to-compose / missing-DEPLOYMENT_MODE-falls-to-compose
/ mode-kwarg override), TestOutputFormatting (line-1 unindented
exact-string assertion, indent=0 edge case, indent=6 edge case,
insertion-order stability for diff-stable output).
Lint:
- tests/lint/ansible/jinja/test_compose_template_uses_depends_on_lookup.py:
rule key `compose-depends-on-must-use-lookup`. Flags three patterns
in any `*compose*.yml.j2` under `roles/`:
1. literal `depends_on:` keyword line
2. flow-form `depends_on: [a, b]`
3. literal `condition: service_*` line
The pre-existing `lookup('container_depends_on', application_id)`
is intentionally not flagged: its call form contains no literal
`depends_on:` token in source. Scan target broadened to
`name.endswith('.yml.j2') and 'compose' in name` so
`compose.override.yml.j2` and `compose-inits.yml.j2` are covered
alongside `compose.yml.j2` and `*.compose.yml.j2`.
Migration (43 depends_on blocks across 17 templates):
- erpnext (6): configurator + backend + websocket + scheduler +
queue-short + queue-long + frontend chains.
- mailu (8): imap + smtp + oletools + antispam + antivirus + webdav +
fetchmail + webmail.
- zammad (4): rails + 3 worker shapes.
- shopware (4): web + worker + scheduler + opensearch, init-gated.
- jitsi (3): three single-key dependencies on JITSI_PROSODY_CONTAINER.
- kix (3): backend + frontend + proxy.
- bigbluebutton/compose.override.yml.j2 (2): bbb-web + etherpad,
inside the existing BBB_COLLABORA_ENABLED gate.
- moodle (2): nginx + cron, both depending on moodle.
- opentalk (2): application + recorder.
- taiga (2): events + gateway.
- matrix (1): loop-driven via `{% set deps = {} %} +
__setitem__` escape hatch over MATRIX_BRIDGES.
- matomo (1): bootstrap service.
- nextcloud (1): whiteboard sidecar.
- openproject (1): proxy.
- funkwhale (1): front.
- magento (1): nginx.
- flowise (1): postgres + redis.
Pre-existing `lookup('container_depends_on', application_id)` calls
(erpnext, nextcloud, moodle, zammad, taiga, matrix, etc.) are left
untouched -- that lookup auto-detects DB / redis from the application
config and emits its own block; it is the app-aware counterpart to
this structural lookup.
Every call placement repositioned to column 4 (standard
compose-service-member indent) so the new line-1-unindented semantic
renders correctly. Eight templates needed the column-4 reposition
(via a mechanical one-shot script that was deleted after).
`make test` green; new lint + 27 unit tests green; independent
re-grep across all `*compose*.yml.j2` finds zero residual raw
`depends_on:` / `condition:` lines.
`docker stack deploy` rejects three compose-yml constructs that compose
parses just fine:
- the map form of `depends_on` (`<svc>: condition: service_healthy` /
`service_completed_successfully`) errors out with "Additional property
condition is not allowed",
- `network_mode: host` interacts badly with the swarm routing mesh and
is inconsistent across docker versions,
- `profiles:` is silently ignored, so a profile-gated one-shot deploys
as a regular replicated service and restart-loops.
All three patterns are now split per `DEPLOYMENT_MODE` so compose keeps
the existing behaviour and swarm gets a working equivalent (or a
documented nocheck for cases where there is no per-port equivalent).
depends_on map form -> per-mode list/map split:
- erpnext: backend + websocket depend on the configurator one-shot.
- kix: backend and frontend depend on the DB / backend service.
- matrix: synapse depends on each mautrix bridge.
- moodle: nginx and cron depend on moodle.
- nextcloud: whiteboard sidecar depends on redis.
- opentalk: recorder depends on rabbit + controller.
- shopware: web, worker, scheduler, opensearch depend on init.
- zammad: rails depends on the init service.
network_mode host:
- svc-prx-openresty: real split. Swarm renders per-port
`ports: target: 80/443, mode: host`, compose keeps `network_mode: host`.
- opentalk-livekit and prometheus-node-exporter: marked
`# nocheck: network-mode-host-without-swarm-gate` -- WebRTC media
server and host metrics collection genuinely need host networking
and have no clean swarm equivalent.
profiles:
- funkwhale typesense: gated to compose-only so swarm does not
silently deploy it as a regular service.
Add the compose_replicas lookup plugin as the single source of truth for
swarm replica calculation. Default emits `replicas: len(groups[application_id])`
(topology-driven); override term forces an explicit value. In compose mode
the lookup returns the empty string because docker-compose ignores
deploy.replicas.
Refactor deploy.yml.j2 to use the lookup. The previous service_replicas
default in defaults/main.yml is no longer needed and is dropped.
Add a lint test that walks every roles/*/templates/compose*.yml.j2 and
verifies each service entry under the top-level services: declares
replica handling via one of three valid paths:
1. Include sys-svc-container/templates/base.yml.j2 (full inheritance).
2. Include sys-svc-container/templates/deploy.yml.j2 directly (escape
hatch for services that own their restart/logging/env_file and
therefore can't use base.yml.j2 without duplicate-key conflicts).
3. Call lookup('compose_replicas', ...) explicitly for handcrafted
deploy: blocks.
Fix the 7 web-app compose templates flagged by the new lint (bluesky,
dashboard, magento, matrix, moodle, nextcloud, opentalk) by including
deploy.yml.j2 directly and setting service_name as a SPOT before each
service entry, so the service name in the yaml key and the resource_filter
lookups in deploy.yml.j2 both flow from one variable.

Single SPOT lookup `plugins/lookup/compose_volumes.py` absorbs the
applications-lookup pipe step and auto-wires `DEPLOYMENT_MODE` plus
the `storage` group var from the templating context. Callers only
pass what genuinely varies per service (`application_id` and an
optional `extra_volumes` dict).
Behavior change (bug fix): the filter was always invoked with the
default `deployment_mode='compose'` because no caller passed it
explicitly, which silently skipped the swarm-NFS driver-opts
injection path. The lookup reads `DEPLOYMENT_MODE` from globals,
so swarm-NFS volumes now render the `driver: local` / `driver_opts:
type: nfs` block correctly. Callers can still override via
`deployment_mode=` / `storage=` kwargs when a template needs
non-default rendering.
Other coordinated changes:
- 81 template call sites migrated from pipe form to lookup form
(single-line and multi-line shapes).
- `FilterModule` registration in plugins/filter/compose_volumes.py
removed so the deprecated pipe form fails fast at render time.
The underlying `compose_volumes()` function stays exported and is
imported by the new lookup plus the existing 21-test filter unit
test module.
- 10 new lookup unit tests pin the contract (term shape, kwargs
pass-through, auto-wiring, override precedence, error cases).
- Integration test `test_compose_volumes_call_required.py` updated:
asserts the new lookup form is present in every `compose.yml.j2`
and adds a second test forbidding the deprecated pipe form
anywhere under `roles/**/templates/`.

Replace per-key `compose_container_name` lookup with a generic
`compose_only(key, value)` SPOT that emits `key: "<value>"` only in
compose mode and nothing in swarm. Same gating logic now serves
container_name (157 call sites) and pull_policy (17 call sites)
without duplicate plugin code.
Why this consolidation:
- The earlier `build-key` lint rule was misdirected. Swarm tolerates
`build:` with a harmless warning when `image:` is pre-pushed (via
the existing handlers/swarm_registry_push.py flow in
roles/sys-svc-compose). The actual swarm-rejected key is
`pull_policy:` ("Additional property pull_policy is not allowed"),
and 10 templates were silently broken because they declared inline
`pull_policy: never` outside the existing `{% if DEPLOYMENT_MODE
\!= 'swarm' %}` gate in roles/sys-svc-container/templates/build.yml.j2.
- A single generic lookup is cleaner than N per-key wrappers when
the gating logic is identical (emit-key-or-nothing).
Lint changes in tests/lint/ansible/jinja/test_mode_incompatible_keys.py:
- New `pull-policy-key` rule, regex `^\s*pull_policy\s*:`, remediation
points at compose_only.
- Existing `container-name` rule keeps its raw-key regex; remediation
now also points at compose_only.
- Broken-split / broken-embed regexes rekeyed on the `compose_only`
lookup name (was `compose_container_name`).
- `build-key` rule and its 12 nocheck annotations across templates
removed.
Coordinated changes:
- 86 templates rewritten (157 container_name calls migrated;
17 inline pull_policy lines replaced).
- 1 redundant `{% if DEPLOYMENT_MODE \!= 'swarm' %}` guard dropped in
build.yml.j2 (the lookup self-gates).
- 12 unit tests pin the compose_only contract.
- Catalog (suppression.md) updated: `pull-policy-key` row added,
`container-name` row remediation updated.
- Old `plugins/lookup/compose_container_name.py` and its test module
deleted.

Mirror compose_container_name pattern: plugins/lookup/compose_restart.py
emits `restart: <policy>` only in compose mode. In swarm the key is
silently ignored (replaced by deploy.restart_policy) and produces
"Ignoring unsupported options" warnings at docker stack deploy time.
Sweep 19 raw restart: sites across 10 templates to the no-arg form
`{{ lookup('compose_restart') }}` (the lookup falls back to
DOCKER_RESTART_POLICY from ansible-vars).
base.yml.j2 keeps the explicit-arg form
`{{ lookup('compose_restart', docker_restart_policy | default(DOCKER_RESTART_POLICY)) }}`
so the 5 templates that override the policy via Jinja-scope
`{% set docker_restart_policy = ... %}` (erpnext, zammad, shopware,
matomo, openproject) retain their override path. Jinja-scope bindings
are visible only in the rendering template, never in the Ansible
variable context that the lookup sees, so the caller must resolve them.
Generalize the container-name lint into a data-driven multi-rule
scanner at tests/lint/ansible/jinja/test_mode_incompatible_keys.py
covering both container-name and restart-key. Adding a new rule is one
ModeRule row sharing the file-walk / suppression / line-grouping
scaffolding.
Also gate roles/svc-db-redis/templates/service.yml.j2's
resource.yml.j2 include with DEPLOYMENT_MODE \!= 'swarm'. Mirrors
base.yml.j2's existing pattern; prevents cpus / mem_limit /
mem_reservation / pids_limit from leaking into swarm output where
deploy.resources.* in deploy.yml.j2 already handles them.
11 unit tests pin the compose_restart lookup contract. Both rules
registered in docs/contributing/actions/testing/suppression.md.

container_name is illegal in swarm mode when replicas > 1 (docker rejects
with "services.deploy.replicas: can't set container_name and X as container
name must be unique"). All compose.yml.j2 templates now route through a
single lookup that suppresses the key in swarm mode and emits it in compose
mode.
SPOT: plugins/lookup/compose_container_name.py
Reads DEPLOYMENT_MODE from the templating context, returns
'container_name: "<name>"' under compose and an empty string under swarm.
Call sites read:
{{ lookup('compose_container_name', MY_CONTAINER) }}
No explicit DEPLOYMENT_MODE pass-through needed.
Sweep: 82 templates rewritten across roles/web-app-*, roles/web-svc-*,
roles/svc-*, plus 4 partial includes (sso_proxy, redis, mariadb, postgres).
For container names assembled from multiple Jinja fragments the args use
tilde concat (X ~ '-' ~ Y) so the lookup receives a single resolved string
and the call stays a single well-formed Jinja expression.
Lint: tests/lint/ansible/jinja/test_no_raw_container_name.py blocks
(a) raw 'container_name:' YAML keys in any roles/*/templates/**/*.j2,
(b) split-Jinja regression where the outer braces close mid-call:
{{ lookup('compose_container_name', A }}-{{ B) }},
(c) embedded-Jinja regression inside a string argument:
lookup(..., "{{ X }}_suffix") (removed in ansible-core 2.23).
The (b) and (c) regexes accept either single- or double-quoted lookup
name and scan the full file so multi-line shapes also surface. Suppress
per-site with '# nocheck: container-name' on the same or preceding line.
Tests: tests/unit/plugins/lookup/test_compose_container_name.py pins the
lookup contract: compose vs swarm output, whitespace tolerance, default-to
compose when DEPLOYMENT_MODE is absent, AnsibleError on missing or excess
terms, non-string name coercion.

Eliminate include-style depends_on assembly. The lookup resolves DB/redis
inductively from applications config and returns indented YAML (or "" when
no entries), removing the empty `depends_on:` block bug in libretranslate.
Migrates 43 compose templates from `{% include … dmbs_*.yml.j2 %}` to
`{{ lookup('container_depends_on', application_id) }}`.

Replace inline `networks:` blocks in every service of web-app-kix and
web-app-nextcloud with `{% include 'roles/sys-svc-container/templates/networks.yml.j2' %}`,
matching the convention the other ~70 roles already follow. The include
derives shared LDAP/DB/Ollama network attachments from `service_registry`
and the role's `services.*.shared` flags, so the hardcoded `openldap:`
attachment in kix's backend (and the missing shared-network handling in
nextcloud's proxy/HPB/whiteboard/recording services) become consistent.
Also fix a latent indent bug in web-app-nextcloud's HPB service: when
`NEXTCLOUD_HPB_NETWORK_MODE \!= 'bridge'`, `network_mode:` was rendered
at 2-space indent (service-name level) instead of 4 (service-property
level), which would have broken `docker compose config` in host/none
mode. Hidden until now by the `bridge` default.
Add `tests/integration/infrastructure/compose/test_network_includes.py`
to lock in the convention: forbids literal `networks:` keys in
compose.yml.j2 and requires exactly one top-level
`sys-svc-compose/networks.yml.j2` include per file (exempting templates
that exclusively use `network_mode:`).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
The role's compose template pinned 6 containers to specific IPs in the
192.168.102.64/28 subnet (proxy=.67, talk=.68, nextcloud=.69, cron=.70,
whiteboard=.71, talk_recording=.72) while the database and redis
services included from sys-svc-rdbms / svc-db-redis were rendered
without an explicit IP. On a fresh variant-1 round, docker auto-assigned
the database to .67 first (it appears before the proxy in the rendered
compose.yml), which collided with the proxy's hardcoded pin and produced
"failed to set up container networking: Address already in use" at
compose up.
Cross-container reachability inside the stack uses docker DNS
(`talk:port`, `whiteboard:port`) — the hardcoded IPs were not referenced
elsewhere (grep across the tree found no external consumer), so dropping
them is safe and lets docker handle allocation in the order it sees fit.
Also progresses the req 019 / req 020 matrices: web-app-prometheus,
web-app-mailu, web-app-keycloak struck through after a clean local
full-cycle re-deploy (both variants pass, 0 Playwright failures);
web-app-nextcloud notes its remaining v1 follow-on (an LDAP cache-warm

Filter no longer takes a `database_volume=` parameter. The volume name is
derived from the central provider's `services.<dbtype>.name` (shared) or
`<entity>_database` (dedicated) — mirroring `plugins/lookup/database.py`'s
`volume_prefix + host` construction. Simultaneous postgres + mariadb on
the same role now raises an AnsibleFilterError with a clear message;
support is deferred per the docstring TODO.
The integration test (renamed from `test_shared_service_volumes.py` to
`test_compose_volumes_call_required.py`) now requires every
`roles/*/templates/compose.yml.j2` to call `compose_volumes`, so the
top-level `volumes:` block is always rendered. Without it, flipping a
shared service to dedicated mode adds a named-volume reference that
Compose rejects with `service "<name>" refers to undefined volume`.
Adds the call to 14 templates that were missing it (dashboard, hugo,
sphinx, bridgy-fed, fediwall, littlejs, mig, mini-qr, navigator,
roulette-wheel, simpleicons, collabora, logout, openresty) and strips
the `database_volume=...` argument from every other role plus Taiga's
now-unused `TAIGA_DATABASE_VOLUME` var.

Introduce a single global flag in group_vars/all/10_networks.yml and wire
the previously hardcoded IPv6 settings in nextcloud, bigbluebutton, and
matrix through it. Matches the host-level `make disable-ipv6` policy so
containers no longer stall on AAAA-first lookups (e.g. Nextcloud's
DnsPinMiddleware) while keeping a single knob to flip when v6 is wanted.

Replaces inline `applications`/`users` merging with dedicated lookup
plugins and runtime hydration. Introduces `add_csp_hash` filter,
integrates sort into `find_dock_val_by_bkp_entr`, splits the Keycloak
one-shot realm import into `05a_realm_import_run.yml`, and fixes the
Mastodon administrator task YAML. Removes obsolete `csp_hashes` filter,
`sys-token-store` Jinja filter, and empty CLI setup modules.

Without publishing the relay port range (default 50000-59999), coturn
inside the Talk container could not establish TURN relay connections
through Docker's network, causing calls with more than 4 participants
to fail silently.
