The entrypoint removed the old tree before it copied the new one. A
copy that failed left the volume without a working Moodle, and every
restart removed again instead of recovering. It now copies into a
staging directory inside the volume and swaps the trees once the copy
is complete, so a failed copy leaves the old tree in place.
An image that ships an older release than the volume records no longer
replaces it and exits with a message instead. Two instances on
different releases would otherwise overwrite each other's tree.
upgrade.php reports "No upgrade needed" on stderr, so the task counted
every run on a current site as a change. It reads stderr now.

The pin moved from 4.5.11 to 5.3.0, and the role fitted neither a new
install nor an existing one.
Moodle 5 serves from public/ and routes every other path through
r.php. nginx now uses public/ as its root, hands unknown paths to the
router and passes PATH_INFO for scripts with slash arguments, and
config.php declares the router as configured. The paths the role checks
and writes (version.php, auth, webservice, the OIDC plugin) moved below
public/, the URL of the OIDC plugin stays auth/oidc. The source archive
no longer contains vendor/, so the image installs the Composer
dependencies it declares. The OIDC plugin is pinned to v5.2.1, the
newest release.
An existing site kept its old code: the entrypoint filled the code
volume once and never again. It now records the release it copied and
replaces the tree when the image carries another one, and a new task
runs admin/cli/upgrade.php. Plugins that were installed through the web
interface are not carried over, the README says how to ship them.
A site installed with 5.3 forces login by default, which 4.5 did not,
so its start page answers 303 to the login page and the webserver
health check refused it. The role declares 200 and 303 as the codes
that check accepts: 200 is what an upgraded site keeps answering.

MAIL_PROVIDER moved to web-app-stalwart without a make docs run, so every generated README still drew Mailu as the email dependency. This is the generator output for the current tree: the root role table and each role cosmos now name Stalwart, Mailu loses its dependents, and Stalwart gains its swarm marker, the Tor dependencies and the 0..0 edges.
The hand-written cosmos of svc-net-tor-smtp gives way to the generated one, which no longer shows the SOCKS5 hop through svc-net-tor because the role does not declare that dependency.

install_database.php was the only place that ever wrote the Moodle site
administrator password, and its failed_when tolerates "Database tables already
present". That is not laxity: upstream aborts in install_database.php before
install_cli_database() writes the password once tables exist, so the role
swallowed exactly the path in which the write is unreachable. After the
credential rotation gate Moodle therefore kept the install-time secret while
templates/playwright.env.j2 rendered the rotated one, and the login answered
"Invalid login, please try again". The same job proves it: variant-2/sync
reports failures="0" with the spec passing in 5.6s, variant-2/async
failures="1", and only the rotation gate lies between them.
The deeper problem was the credential itself. secrets.credentials.user_password
described itself as "Initial password for the Moodle admin user" - a role-local
secret for an account that is not role-local. Moodle hosts the platform
administrator, so read that user instead, the way web-app-baserow,
web-app-gitlab, web-app-penpot, web-app-matrix, web-app-bluesky and
web-app-pihole already do. lookup(users, administrator).password is stable
because roles/user-administrator/meta/users.yml pins it to
ansible_become_password; only a user with no declared password re-renders
{{ 42 | strong_password }} on every evaluation.
vars/main.yml now holds username, password and email as one constant each, so
install, realign and the Playwright env cannot drift apart again, and the
now-unread credential leaves meta/secrets.yml.
Realigning uses admin/cli/reset_password.php. Verified against the pinned
release v4.5.11: --username and --password are non-interactive (lines 35-37,
prompts only when empty at 76 and 88), --ignore-password-policy is required
because the platform password is not chosen to satisfy Moodle policy (line 96),
and the "when" gate is required because line 84 resolves only auth=manual rows
while tasks/04_oidc.yml rewrites every row to auth=oidc.

The Production block never set one. inventory provision writes only
ansible_connection for a local host, so DOMAIN_PRIMARY stayed at the
group_vars default of infinito.localhost and the deployment served a zone its
own resolver knows nothing about. CoreDNS templates answers for
INFINITO_DOMAIN_RE and nothing else, so every lookup of the deployment's own
name came back NXDOMAIN.
Mastodon is where that surfaced. tootctl accounts create validates the address
through EmailMxValidator, which resolves MX and then, for the domain itself,
A and AAAA. All six queries returned NXDOMAIN in run 33574056480, the
validator recorded email :unreachable, and the admin account was never created.
Only the guide rows were affected: the matrix rows write
DOMAIN_PRIMARY: "{{ lookup('env', 'INFINITO_DOMAIN') }}" into their host_vars
and resolve fine.
The template now carries DOMAIN=<your-domain> in both the host and the
container form and threads it into --vars, with the container form passing it
through the docker run boundary as well. The two guide runners substitute it
the way they already substitute the SSH key, so the replay deploys under
INFINITO_DOMAIN like every other CI deploy. compose_deploy.sh moves its env
load ahead of the substitutions to have the value; host_deploy.sh had no env
load at all.
A production reader is asked for a domain now instead of silently inheriting
infinito.localhost, which no real deployment wants either. The shipped default
keeps its value: sys-svc-nss documents that *.localhost resolves through the
myhostname NSS module without any zone, and host-side tasks lean on it.

83c1c729de gave every provider a group_names-gated services entry per MCP
client, including the clients it refuses with mcp_consumer: false. The gate
is what makes the inventory resolver plan provider and client into one round,
so 19 of the repo's 82 co-deploy pairs started a client for a pairing the
provider had already declined. flowise is a live MCP client of qdrant,
homeassistant and prometheus; the other 17 providers were bringing up its
node stack for nothing.
The entries now read enabled: false, shared: false, mcp_consumer: false, and
the variants that pinned them to true are gone. Setting those variants to
false instead is not an option: test_variants_no_static_override forbids any
variant override of a literal base value in either direction.
bond leaves with them, and a new lint holds that line: collect_role_resources
skips a literally disabled entry before it reads any resource key, so a bond
there describes a cost nobody pays. Thirteen entries unrelated to MCP carried
one and are cleared too.
test_mcp_consumer_services_entry demanded the group_names shape for every
client entry, refused ones included, and now demands the opposite there.
dynamic-flag keeps its rule and takes its own documented per-key exemption.
make docs redraws twenty graphs: the edges go, the nodes stay as
'openwebui ❌' and 'flowise ❌', so the refusal is visible rather than read as
an integration.

Moodle#0 of run 33414875521 failed its litellm spec in the login precondition.
The page snapshot names the cause rather than the symptom:
Blocked http://auth.4fc5...onion/realms/infinito.nexus/protocol/openid-connect/token
line 90 of /auth/oidc/classes/httpclient.php: call to curl->request()
line 3814 of /lib/filelib.php: call to curl->trigger_url_blocked_event()
Not an auth failure: the browser leg finished and came back with a code. What
died is the server-side token exchange.
On an onion node container_extra_hosts pins the Keycloak authority into the
container's /etc/hosts, for exactly this call -- its docstring says so: "code-to-
token exchange, JWKS, userinfo ... Pinning the provider to a reachable address
sends those calls over the local network to the proxy that already serves the
vhost." The pin points at host-gateway, which is 10.208.0.1 here because
08_networks.yml overrides docker's pool to 10.208.0.0/12.
MOODLE_EGRESS_BLOCKED_HOSTS then covered that address with 10.0.0.0/8. One half
of the deploy made Keycloak reachable and the other half blocked the address it
had just published.
b23653adf8 stated its intent as "172.16/12 and 192.168/16 become reachable so the
container network resolves, while 10.0.0.0/8, link-local and loopback stay
blocked", and README.md recorded the premise "Keycloak answers on 172.16.0.0/12".
It does not. The commit opened the two RFC1918 ranges this deployment does not
use and kept the one it does. 0f6728a4c1 is the same class of bug on a different
mechanism: an iptables range that also swallowed 10.208.0.0/12.
Measured rather than reasoned, with the exact --add-host the run emitted:
gethostbynamel("auth.4fc5....onion") => ["10.208.0.1"]
address_in_subnet("10.208.0.1", "...,10.0.0.0/8", true) => true
address_in_subnet("10.208.0.1", "...", true) => false
Two positive controls in the same job: prometheus-sso-proxy redeems a code
against the byte-identical URL and passes, and so does mailu. Moodle is the only
role in the run that puts an application-level SSRF blocklist in front of its own
HTTP client, which is why only Moodle broke.
No new security decision. README.md already carries the trade-off the earlier
commit accepted -- Moodle has no allowlist, so one internal host cannot be
permitted without its range -- and this extends it to the range the deployment
actually occupies. Loopback, 0.0.0.0, the metadata address and 0000::1 stay.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
allowed_consumers was twenty hand-kept lists of which fourteen were identical, so every new client meant an edit in every provider. A client now declares services.<own-entity>.mcp_consumer: true once and a provider refuses one with mcp_consumer: false, which is also what tells a deliberate exclusion apart from a forgotten entry.
The group_names-gated consumer entries give the inventory resolver the co-deploy edge meta/mcp.yml never had: one of sixty-nine matrix rounds carried an MCP client before, twenty-three role/round pairs do now. bond 0.5 keeps the clients out of round 0 so the host memory budget still holds.
BREAKING CHANGE: meta/mcp.yml no longer accepts allowed_consumers; declare services.<entity>.mcp_consumer on the client instead.

834 commits from the Tor onion-service branch against 299 of ours, from merge
base 7b646bdece: 127 conflicted files, 3506 files changed.
The two sides are largely orthogonal. Theirs adds svc-net-tor and a `tor` service
across the role tree, plus two sweeping refactors: shipped scripts sorted by
language (files/ruby/, files/python/, files/shell/, scripts/lint/*.sh) and the
unit suite moved under tests/unit/python/. Ours is requirement 036, the native AI
gateway, plus the MCP role work. Most conflicts were both sides appending to the
same service map, resolved as unions.
Resolutions that were not unions:
Credentials moved namespace. Theirs renamed meta/schema.yml to meta/secrets.yml
and re-addressed credentials as secrets.credentials.<name>. Git carried our
litellm_api_key blocks through the rename, but every consumer we added still read
'credentials.<name>', which no longer resolves. All 45 call sites are migrated.
plugins/filter/container_volumes.py is deleted by theirs and relocated to
plugins/lookup/container_volumes.py, where it carries the same tmpfs defect our
f85996b43 had just fixed: a hard-coded {"size": ...} that silently drops a per
mount `mode`. The fix is re-applied in the relocated file, as that commit's merge
note anticipated.
compose.yml keeps only INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_REPORTS_BASE_DIR. Theirs also forwards
INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_STAGE_BASE_DIR; that line is deliberately dropped, per the
analysis recorded in 45804e9ad -- STAGE has a drift-proof role-vars fallback,
while forwarding it promotes a setdefault-pinnable .env value above that SPOT.
tasks/stages/01_constructor.yml takes their include, ./tasks/utils/setup/group.yml,
because their refactor removed tasks/groups/*-roles.yml, leaving our include
target nonexistent. Our task name is kept, since svc-virt is in the loop.
Makefile swarm-zombie is a union: their validate plus teardown, then our
lab_subnet cleanup, which their side dropped while leaving lab_subnet.sh as the
only orphaned reference in the file.
01_bootstrap.sh keeps our deterministic --ip pinning, which distinguishes an
already-attached node from a real failure, over their `|| true`.
Their language-sorted layout orphaned references our side still held: zammad's
two scripts/apply/*.rb, jenkins' java-with-ca-trust.sh, and the notify topics
their handlers renamed to hyphenated form. All corrected.
roles/sys-svc-compose/files/shell/swarm/stack_ready.sh gains our latched-update
block: paused, rollback_paused, rollback_started and rollback_completed exit 2
rather than polling a state that cannot resolve without another deploy.
config_from_run is unioned to (title, logged, jobs); the production caller in
trigger/__main__.py now passes jobs, without which our suite suppression would
have been inert.
READMEs are regenerated rather than hand-merged: 15 LiteLLM rows and 91 Tor rows
now derive from the merged metadata, which is itself evidence the meta merge is
coherent.
Verified: 5161 unit tests pass. The single failure, test_query.py TestSortSpec,
also fails on fork/feature/svc-net-tor at b51d2f9919, measured in a baseline
worktree -- so this merge introduces no new unit-test failure. Two modules are
excluded from that run because `baudolo`, a dependency their branch introduces,
is not installed on this host.
Not verified: no deploy has run against the merged tree, and make quality has not
been run end to end here.

Moodle 4.5 ships aiprovider_openai in core, where every action carries its own
endpoint rather than one shared base URL, so the provider is configured per
action. aiprovider_openaicompatible would be the natural fit but requires
Moodle 5.0, which the role does not pin, so the per-action endpoints are the
only surface available on this branch. MOODLE_LITELLM_SETTINGS carries that as
a list of component/name/value triples and also enables the courseassist and
editor placements: a configured provider with no enabled placement exposes no
AI surface to any user, so both halves are required for the feature to exist.
An earlier revision set a global `enableai`, which does not exist in 4.5.
tasks/utils/ai_gateway.yml verifies the shared gateway contract, writes each
setting through admin/cli/cfg.php, then purges caches. Without the purge Moodle
keeps answering from its config cache and the new endpoint appears to have been
ignored.
The egress rule is the half that is easy to miss. Moodle's cURL security helper
blocks private address ranges outright, so a correctly configured in-cluster
endpoint is still refused, and it surfaces as a generic provider error rather
than as a blocked request. 01_manager_ops.yml therefore writes
curlsecurityblockedhosts and curlsecurityallowedport, appending the gateway's
port only while litellm is enabled. This deliberately narrows a security
control: 172.16/12 and 192.168/16 become reachable so the container network
resolves, while 10.0.0.0/8, link-local and loopback stay blocked. The README
records the trade-off.
MOODLE_EGRESS_NEWLINE is double-quoted on purpose. Moodle stores both settings
one entry per line; a single-quoted YAML scalar hands Jinja a literal
backslash-n, the whole list collapses into one unparseable token, and the net
effect is that every port is blocked rather than the intended two. Verified in
the container with negative controls: keycloak and litellm reachable,
10.208.0.5 and 127.0.0.1 still refused.
The spec opens a site-administrator session -- through Keycloak when sso is on,
because 04_oidc.yml rewrites every account to auth: oidc and no password
reaches it then, and through the native form otherwise -- asserts the endpoint
is http on an undotted host that is not Moodle's own domain, then calls
aiplacement_editor_generate_text and requires a non-empty completion. That last
step is a prompt actually answered through the gateway, not a config read-back.
Verified: the deploy-time read-back assertion ran ok in a variant-2 round and
the spec executed rather than skipping. The egress newline defect and its fix
were both measured in-container.
Not verified: I confirmed the spec ran but not that its final assertion passed,
and the cfg.php loop is changed_when: false, so the deploy log cannot show
whether a setting actually moved.

The cosmos generator linked a consumer to its provider only through an
'<role>' in group_names reference or an explicit provides: name. A hard
dependency has neither -- pinning the provider on unconditionally is
exactly what removes the Jinja reference the generator was reading -- so
web-svc-asset's bond to web-svc-file vanished from the diagram the moment
it became binding. Match a service key against the provider's own primary
key from the registry, in both directions.
Services the role turns off drew a solid 1:1 edge, claiming a mandatory
relationship for something that carries nothing at deploy time. They now
render as a red 0..0 edge; edge merging gained a real precedence so a
provider consumed through two keys stays live when only one is off.
Named colour, not hex: a '#' opens an entity code in the mermaid lexer and
turns the whole diagram into a parse error on GitHub.

75 commits: the socialhome role reimplemented against the project it actually
deploys, native-login specs for funkwhale and shopware, a window.open IdP
handoff and a settings-link fallback in the shared persona helpers, a swarm
converge budget that gives up on a terminal task, and a long tail of role
fixes.
Eleven conflicts. The shared persona helpers (keycloak.js, logout.js) take the
incoming structure — they gained real behaviour this branch never had — with
this branch's resolveTimeout convention re-applied over it and
confirmKeycloakLogoutIfPrompted re-attached at every return point; without it
the Keycloak SSO session outlives the logout. playwright.config.js keeps this
branch's version: both sides set actionTimeout, but ours routes through an env
var and 15s is too short behind an onion. socialhome's spec takes the incoming
content — 2dbd6eb10 found the role described the wrong upstream project
entirely — and keeps gotoOnion and expectHstsWhenTls, since demanding HSTS over
a plaintext onion is a false failure. Both READMEs were regenerated rather than
merged by hand.
Three collisions arrived with no conflict marker at all, because each side
changed a different place in a different file:
- group_vars/all/18_swarm.yml declared swarm_stack_converge_retries twice.
Same value, so nothing breaks today; editing the documented one would have
silently changed nothing.
- svc-net-tor and web-app-socialhome both claimed 192.168.74.0/24. Socialhome,
the newer role, moves to 192.168.75.0/24.
- web-app-socialhome/meta/schema.yml arrived as a new file, so ef5ea7cb5's
rename never saw it. Its credential would not have resolved and the role
would have deployed with an unusable administrator account.
The incoming specs also needed this branch's conventions: raw timeouts wrapped,
four page.goto calls routed through gotoOnion, a request.get given an
onion-aware timeout, and 21 roles marked playwright-service-flag over the tor
block this branch added to them.
make quality green on the merge result.

Blocking a persona removes the only end-to-end proof that a role's auth chain
works. docs/contributing/artefact/files/role/playwright.specs.js.md:146 has
always required each flag to carry a one-line nocheck stating the role contract
that justifies it, plus a matching paragraph in the role's README or TODO.
Nothing enforced it, so 89 flags across 46 roles carried neither.
The lint mirrors test_has_spec's shape and uses is_suppressed_at with
mode="line-above", so the marker must sit directly above its flag -- a blank
line between them breaks the association, which is what the persona helper's
reader will look at. A literal =false blocks nothing and is exempt; the
sso-conditional ternary is not, because it blocks in every variant that pins
services.sso.enabled false.
Writing 89 reasons turned out to be the point. Five roles audited in one pass
blocked for five entirely different mechanisms, all of which read as the same
shrug behind a bare =true: pgAdmin's login id is the account e-mail rather than
the Keycloak username; phpMyAdmin authenticates as the MariaDB root account;
GitLab's seeded password belongs to the built-in root, not the administrator;
Mastodon's tootctl accounts create never sets a password; phpLDAPadmin binds
with an LDAP DN and a different secret. Further out: MediaWiki removes the form
that would accept the Keycloak secret ($wgPluggableAuth_EnableLocalLogin=false)
and bounces anonymous requests back into the IdP, so the unauthenticated
landing the contract asserts can never be observed; Mattermost Team Edition has
no native OIDC, so Keycloak rides the GitLab OAuth slot behind a relabelled
link; MinIO's console returns redirectRules: null and renders no SSO button at
all; XWiki's administrator is an XWikiUsers object with no password property.
Two flags turned out to be unjustifiable and are gone rather than annotated.
web-app-mailu gated PERSONA_GUEST_BLOCKED on services.dashboard.enabled, but
runGuestFlow does one anonymous goto and asserts no signed-in marker -- it
never touches the dashboard. A leftover from a helper version that entered
through the dashboard account menu. And web-app-mig's rationale claimed the
role is an in-app module of web-app-dashboard; it has its own compose stack,
healthcheck and canonical domain, and dashboard is merely a tile consumer.
Nine of the reasons say plainly that the block is not a role property but a gap
in the shared persona helpers -- decidim's sign-out is a data-method link the
generic click cannot activate, fider's SSO entry is a two-step modal, taiga,
wordpress, xwiki, odoo and penpot bind OIDC on a path the personas never visit,
jenkins blocks unconditionally although its OIDC variant looks runnable, and
opentalk's own spec proves both personas work. That list did not exist before;
it is the actual yield here, not the 89 comment lines.
45 pre-existing comments came into the comment lint's scope because this sweep
touched their files -- it only inspects files that differ from HEAD. 28 of them
were the banner "Service gate flags rendered for closure.", every one sitting
above a line that is not a service gate flag at all, orphaned by the
alphabetical re-sort these templates once got.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
The block sat under services but never behaved like a service. A service has
exactly one providing role, declared with provides, so the registry can map the
key to that role and consumers bind their flag to its presence. No role declares
provides: mcp. There are seventeen providers and the pairing is done by
allowed_consumers inside the block itself.
Every rule that enforces the service model therefore needed an exemption for it:
a shared-provider suppression in fourteen roles, a playwright-service-flag
suppression, and two freshly added exemptions in the dynamic-flag and
variants-static-override checks. Four independent rules, four escape hatches,
one cause. They are all gone now, together with a bond key that only the
resource budgeter reads and only for entries under services, and a wordpress
addon bridge that pointed at a service block that no longer exists.
The block moves to meta/mcp.yml. The applications loader maps meta/<name>.yml to
applications.<app>.<name> generically, so the move needs no wiring; the file
takes the same shape as meta/rbac.yml. Every config path follows, the variant
overrides are lifted out of their services map, and the vocabulary module leaves
the services package because it no longer describes one. roles_with_service
gains an explicit topic parameter rather than an implicit fallback, so nothing
silently resolves against the wrong container.
Files that are otherwise unrelated to this move are included where the committed
tree would otherwise keep pointing at a path that no longer resolves: thirteen
vars files, eleven playwright env templates and one task file.
modes.compose.enabled and modes.swarm.enabled were both false, and a
stack role is forced host=false, so all three test_<mode> columns were
false and the CI discovery filter (test_<mode> == true) dropped the role
from every matrix. It was resolved into the priority whitelist as a new
role and then silently filtered out again — svc-net-tor was only ever
exercised indirectly, as a dependency other roles pull in.
The flag is read solely by the discovery model and the README generator;
nothing in the deploy path consults it, so this has no runtime effect.
meta/categories.yml pins the whole net category to compose/swarm false,
which fits svc-net-wireguard-{core,plain,firewalled}: none of them ships
a compose template. svc-net-tor does, and is the only role in the
category that does, so it takes the category-modes exemption the lint
provides rather than bending the category default for three host roles.
Regenerated READMEs follow: svc-net-tor now carries its mode symbols in
every cosmos diagram that names it as a dependency.

Four roles declared auth_subject: user while handing the client an
account-bound credential. Nextcloud and Home Assistant mint against the
administrator account, Mattermost issues the administrator's personal access
token, and Baserow creates a dedicated mcp@<domain> account with its own
workspace. The declarations now name what the minting tasks do; Baserow's
README additionally claimed the administrator owns its endpoint, which it
never did.
The tools declarations follow one convention instead of two: the field records
the deployment's intent and the README names the missing enforcement, which is
what GitLab already did and what Baserow and Mattermost now do.
The discovery lookup carries auth_subject through so clients can see the
subject. No consumer branches on it.

Install the protocol plugin during the image build, because a Moodle
plugin must match the pinned release and installing it at runtime would
leave the two free to drift.
Provision the webservice and its token through PHP, and attach only
read-only functions, so the read-only tool policy is enforced by the
service definition rather than declared in metadata.
Address the endpoint as its canonical origin. Moodle compares every
request against wwwroot, so a probe over the internal HTTP origin was
answered with an HTML redirect instead of JSON and every retry hit the
same wall; the verify step now sends the canonical Host and the
forwarded-proto header.

Resolves the runner Dockerfile to the lint-standard Acquire::Retries=3

Standardize the private inventory dir on the fully spelled "production" (matching inventories/development). Update the role README template (SPOT) and regenerate 153 role READMEs plus the admin deploy guide; add inventories/production/ to .gitignore, propagated to .dockerignore via make fix-dockerignore.

The guide deploys to a .localhost target, where letsencrypt cannot issue (Cloudflare DNS-01 needs a real domain). Default TLS_MODE=self_signed in the generated Production block so the guide uses the working self-signed provider. Document every deploy parameter as a top-level shell var (APP, HOST, TLS_MODE, SSH_PUBLIC_KEY) instead of an inline placeholder.
The compose guide now extracts and runs the whole README block, sourcing params from it (no more -e injection); HOST is forced to localhost. Skip checkout/login under ACT so the guide workflow is iterable locally.

The README Production block went provision -> deploy with no admin-key step, so user-administrator failed early (authorized_keys empty) for both the Guide CI jobs and any real user copying the README. Add a visible 'provision --vars' step that sets users.administrator.authorized_keys (merged into host_vars) in both Production variants of the role README template, regenerate all role READMEs, and replace the invisible CI payload splice with a visible substitution of the documented <your-ssh-public-key> placeholder.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
The role README Production section now runs provision and deploy in a
single docker call: APP and HOST are shell variables passed via -e,
INVENTORY is the in-container SPOT for the duplicated paths, and the
redundant --vars-file (optional, default None) and --id (the inventory
is already narrowed by --include) flags are gone. All 153 role READMEs
regenerated from the template; test-run.yml executes exactly this block.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Roles declared under meta/main.yml dependencies now appear on both the
Dependencies and Dependents side, labelled with the glossary gear
symbol and connected by a fixed 1:1 edge; the legend explains it. All
role READMEs regenerated.

Edges now carry their relation: solid 1:1 for fixed consumption, dashed
0..1 for conditional (group-membership gated) consumption. Below every
diagram the generator renders a reading key for the edge kinds and the
node markers, with the glyphs drawn from the shared symbol glossary.
All role READMEs regenerated.

Add cli/build/readme: derives each role README's managed sections from
templates/roles/README.md.j2.tmpl (the Cosmos mermaid diagram from
meta/services.yml, an invokable-gated Quick Setup, and Credits).
The Cosmos diagram shows dependencies, every declared service, and
dependents (roles that consume this one, matched by role name and by
provides provision-name in both directions). Role nodes carry deploy-mode
emoji markers (compose/swarm/host); disabled and shared services get a
stop mark; dependents are capped at 12.
test_readme enforces the Quick Setup body is byte-exact with the template
render. `make readme-generate` and `make cosmos` regenerate; `make cosmos`
also runs inside `make quality`.
Refactor: utils/symbol_glossary.py is the single source of truth for the
word/emoji mapping (unique project-wide), consumed by the complexity
matrix and the Cosmos builder. utils/roles/deploy.py holds role_has_stack
and role_deploy_modes, shared by both so the logic never drifts.
Add `make lint-mermaid` and its CI workflow, rendering every diagram via
mermaid-cli; the render step provisions chrome-headless-shell and unzip
on demand so it works in the minimal container.

Role README Credits now name galaxy_info.author (plain bold or wrapped
in a Markdown link), matched byte-for-byte against the role's own
meta/main.yml, instead of a hard-coded maintainer name. Regenerate all
245 role README Credits blocks to the new 'Implemented by ...' format.

Three classes of drift cleaned up across 85 .md files:
- Em-dashes: replaced ` — ` with the contextually correct separator
(colon for `term: explanation`, period to split clauses across
sentences/source lines, parentheses for asides, semicolon for
tight-linked continuations). Two intentional exceptions remain
in `docs/contributing/documentation.md` (the rule literal) and
inside a fenced ```sh block in `docs/contributing/actions/debugging/ci.md`.
- SPOT self-labels: rewrote "This is the SPOT for X" to describe
the subject directly ("This directory holds X" / "This file
describes X"). Cross-references to other artefacts' canonical
role remain unchanged.
- Heading-emoji position: moved leading-emoji headings (`# 🧩 Title`)
to trailing position (`# Title 🧩`) per the headline rule that
emojis MUST come after the title text.

Removes 67 live references to docs/requirements/<NNN>-*.md files across
43 contributor docs, role READMEs, code comments, task files, and tests.
Requirement docs are initial-creation-only artefacts; live references
freeze a snapshot that rots once the per-feature SPOT (a contributor
doc, a code module, a lint test) takes over the live behaviour.
In the same pass, fixes documentation.md violations on the touched
files: drops em-dashes used as thought breaks, removes "SPOT for ..."
self-labels, strips historical phrasing ("the legacy", "previously",
"used to", "is no longer used", "matching the historical"), and
reflows soft-wrapped sentences so each sentence stays on one logical
line.
The `test_inventory_vars_file_spot.py` whitelist for the literal
inventory path drops the docs/requirements/003 entry and instead
skips docs/requirements/ entirely; future requirement docs that
mention the literal path are then ignored automatically.
Verified by tests/lint/repository/test_no_stale_requirement_refs.py
(green tree-wide).

Tooling integration
* add .markdownlint-cli2.jsonc, .ansible-lint, .ansible-lint-ignore
configs (permissive day-1: cosmetic rules disabled, semantic ones on)
* extend scripts/install/lint.sh with generic install_pip_pkg helper +
ensure_ansible_lint / ensure_galaxy_importer / ensure_markdownlint_cli2
ensure_* functions (pip / npm with sudo / --user / --break-system-packages
fallbacks). install_ansible_tools now also pulls ansible-lint and
galaxy-importer; new `markdown` install group.
* extend scripts/lint/ansible.sh to run ansible-lint after the existing
syntax-check.
* add scripts/lint/markdown.sh and scripts/lint/galaxy.sh runners. The
galaxy runner parallelizes via xargs (-P=$(nproc)), prints OK/FAIL per
role, and treats `bare-name dependency` errors as success since our
roles/ tree is not a Galaxy collection layout. All other Galaxy schema
errors still fail.
* Makefile: new lint-markdown and lint-galaxy targets, both wired into
`make lint`.
* CI: new workflows lint-markdown.yml and lint-galaxy.yml; lint-ansible.yml
now installs ansible-core + ansible-lint; ci-orchestrator wires both
new lint workflows into lint-gate.
Galaxy schema fixes
* shorten the canonical `galaxy_info.company` block from three lines to
two ("Kevin Veen-Birkenbach\nhttps://www.veen.world", 45 chars) so it
stays under Galaxy's hard 50-char limit. Updated everywhere: 229 role
meta/main.yml plus _CANONICAL_COMPANY in
tests/lint/repository/test_role_meta_main_galaxy_schema.py.
* shorten 19 over-long role descriptions to <=255 chars.
* add stub READMEs for sys-svc-compose-ca and sys-utils-service-loader.
Markdown baseline fixes
* markdownlint-cli2 --fix run repo-wide (formatting normalization
across CHANGELOG, role READMEs, docs).
* manual MD041 fixes: prepend H1 in 15 files (CHANGELOG, LICENSE,
TODO.md helpers, role README templates, etc.).
* MD025 / MD003 / MD001 / MD032 manual fixes for heading-style and
list-spacing edge cases.
* role README content polish: "## Single Point of Truth (SPOT)" headings
renamed to "## User data resolution" (D3 self-label rule).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* meta/main.yml: replace every prior platforms variant (Linux,
GenericLinux, Any, Archlinux+rolling/all, distro-specific pins) with
the canonical 5-distro list (ArchLinux, Debian, EL, Fedora, Ubuntu;
versions: [all] each).
* lint: merge tests/lint/ansible/roles/test_meta_company_canonical.py
into tests/lint/repository/test_role_meta_main_galaxy_schema.py and
add a parallel canonical-platforms exact-value check; one file walk
enforces both schema conformance and the two project canonical
exact-values (company block-scalar + platforms 5-distro list).
* roles/<role>/README.md: strip emojis from H1/H2 headings (per
readme_md.md role rule), normalize the Credits block to the canonical
wording (Author/Authors/Author Information aliased; canonical block
appended where absent).
* repo-wide: revert text-drift `GenericLinux` -> `Linux` in role
description fields, README body prose, vars, j2 templates, and the
Makefile (87 occurrences). The lint docstring keeps a single
historical mention.
