The contract check ran as an Ansible task in the middle of every provider deploy, and the two client checks ran the same way. A test that is part of the deploy cannot be run without deploying, cannot be re-run on its own, and reports its verdict as a deploy failure. Twenty-seven task files lose 491 lines to this.
It is now what it always was. Each provider ships files/test/test.sh, templates/test.env.j2 and meta/tests.yml, and test-e2e-cli stages one shared harness beside it: run.sh drives contract.sh in a throwaway container on the provider's own network, then isolation.sh for adapter-fronted providers. The read probe each provider offers moved from the calling task into meta/mcp.yml next to the allowlist it must satisfy, and the schema now rejects a read probe naming a tool outside that allowlist.
The bearer the test presents is the one a client resolves through mcp.credential, via the new mcp_client_bearer lookup over resolve_credential, which moved to utils.roles.applications.mcp so it is the same function mcp_servers renders every client connection with. The probe presented whatever the calling role passed, which for the fifteen adapter-fronted providers is a different secret than any client holds.
Sidecar isolation is read from the engine rather than measured inside the container, so it no longer needs a delegation to the node holding the task: attachment is compared by network name, which drops the gwbridge special case, and a swarm worker says it cannot measure instead of skipping silently.
Retrying is bounded by wall clock against MCP_DEADLINE_SECONDS, which scales through the same lookup('timeout') as the harness budget it has to stay under. A flag that is neither true nor false aborts rather than reading as off.
mcp-provider-probe becomes mcp-provider-cli-test: an enabled provider must ship the test rather than include the task. mcp-probe-bearer becomes mcp-adapter-bearer, tying ADAPTER_BEARER to the declared credential key now that no probe include carries it. A new integration test renders the shared env template for every provider through Ansible's own templar, so a later change to it breaks visibly instead of poisoning twenty deploys quietly.
Hermes and OpenClaw keep their client-side proof as CLI tests of their own.

The least-privilege half of the criterion could not hold as built.
provision_mcp.py creates the endpoint owner's workspace through
CoreHandler().create_workspace, which makes that account its ADMIN, and
2.3.3 knows only ADMIN and MEMBER - both write table data. There is no
read-only workspace role to demote to, so mutating_tools_enabled: false
bounded nothing while create_rows, update_rows and delete_rows sat in the
served allowlist.
The adapter's contract simply omits them: a client calling one is refused
with DENY_UNKNOWN_TOOL. Omission is the mechanism, since passthrough.py
refuses to load a contract that lists a mutating tool while mutations are
off. The other ten stay recorded under upstream_serves so a version bump
enabling one shows up as drift rather than as a silently wider surface.
The transport was what reverted this twice. Baserow speaks classic
HTTP+SSE, where a GET opens the response stream and the stream names a
second URL for requests, while the adapter only ever spoke Streamable
HTTP. adapter.upstream_transport selects sse.py and defaults to
streamable_http, so no existing provider changes.
The endpoint key stops being a client credential. Clients present
credentials.mcp_bearer to the sidecar; the key reaches the sidecar as
ADAPTER_UPSTREAM_PATH_KEY and is spliced in percent-encoded, so it never
enters the rendered contract and a key carrying a separator cannot open a
path of its own.
Deploy is green: the probe reached list_databases over SSE, the served
surface matched the contract, and the sidecar proved it reaches only its
provider.
Twelve callers load their scripts with the relative form
lookup('file', 'name.py'), which resolves against the role's files/
directory. dfe7a7fdd moved those scripts into files/python/ without
updating them, so the MCP provisioning and probes of baserow, checkmk,
flowise, gitlab, homeassistant, jellyfin, n8n, openwebui and pretix, plus
n8n's AI gateway task, all resolved a path that no longer exists.
This is the second time the same relocation left callers behind. After
2aec4326a fixed the php paths, the claim that no stale references remained
came from grepping the worktree, which already carried the corrected paths;
HEAD still held the old ones. The check has to run against the commit.
Verified against HEAD this time: the eleven remaining stale relative lookups
are exactly the files in this bundle, and no other loading form (copy src,
script) carries a stale path.

834 commits from the Tor onion-service branch against 299 of ours, from merge
base 7b646bdece: 127 conflicted files, 3506 files changed.
The two sides are largely orthogonal. Theirs adds svc-net-tor and a `tor` service
across the role tree, plus two sweeping refactors: shipped scripts sorted by
language (files/ruby/, files/python/, files/shell/, scripts/lint/*.sh) and the
unit suite moved under tests/unit/python/. Ours is requirement 036, the native AI
gateway, plus the MCP role work. Most conflicts were both sides appending to the
same service map, resolved as unions.
Resolutions that were not unions:
Credentials moved namespace. Theirs renamed meta/schema.yml to meta/secrets.yml
and re-addressed credentials as secrets.credentials.<name>. Git carried our
litellm_api_key blocks through the rename, but every consumer we added still read
'credentials.<name>', which no longer resolves. All 45 call sites are migrated.
plugins/filter/container_volumes.py is deleted by theirs and relocated to
plugins/lookup/container_volumes.py, where it carries the same tmpfs defect our
f85996b43 had just fixed: a hard-coded {"size": ...} that silently drops a per
mount `mode`. The fix is re-applied in the relocated file, as that commit's merge
note anticipated.
compose.yml keeps only INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_REPORTS_BASE_DIR. Theirs also forwards
INFINITO_PLAYWRIGHT_STAGE_BASE_DIR; that line is deliberately dropped, per the
analysis recorded in 45804e9ad -- STAGE has a drift-proof role-vars fallback,
while forwarding it promotes a setdefault-pinnable .env value above that SPOT.
tasks/stages/01_constructor.yml takes their include, ./tasks/utils/setup/group.yml,
because their refactor removed tasks/groups/*-roles.yml, leaving our include
target nonexistent. Our task name is kept, since svc-virt is in the loop.
Makefile swarm-zombie is a union: their validate plus teardown, then our
lab_subnet cleanup, which their side dropped while leaving lab_subnet.sh as the
only orphaned reference in the file.
01_bootstrap.sh keeps our deterministic --ip pinning, which distinguishes an
already-attached node from a real failure, over their `|| true`.
Their language-sorted layout orphaned references our side still held: zammad's
two scripts/apply/*.rb, jenkins' java-with-ca-trust.sh, and the notify topics
their handlers renamed to hyphenated form. All corrected.
roles/sys-svc-compose/files/shell/swarm/stack_ready.sh gains our latched-update
block: paused, rollback_paused, rollback_started and rollback_completed exit 2
rather than polling a state that cannot resolve without another deploy.
config_from_run is unioned to (title, logged, jobs); the production caller in
trigger/__main__.py now passes jobs, without which our suite suppression would
have been inert.
READMEs are regenerated rather than hand-merged: 15 LiteLLM rows and 91 Tor rows
now derive from the merged metadata, which is itself evidence the meta merge is
coherent.
Verified: 5161 unit tests pass. The single failure, test_query.py TestSortSpec,
also fails on fork/feature/svc-net-tor at b51d2f9919, measured in a baseline
worktree -- so this merge introduces no new unit-test failure. Two modules are
excluded from that run because `baudolo`, a dependency their branch introduces,
is not installed on this host.
Not verified: no deploy has run against the merged tree, and make quality has not
been run end to end here.

Every script a role ships now lives under `files/<language>/`, and the unit
suite is split the same way: `tests/unit/python/` beside new sibling trees for
the other languages. `tests/lint/filesystem/test_role_files_layout.py` keeps it
that way; directories whose shape is dictated from outside carry a `.nocheck`
naming the constraint (Docker build contexts, WordPress mu-plugins, the Joomla
extension, Odoo addons, Playwright suites, the `files/test/test.sh` harness
that `test-e2e-cli` resolves generically).
This cannot be applied in halves. Moving a file and repointing what names it
are the same change: 14 references resolve only at deploy time, so the tree is
green either before or after, never between.
Those 14 were found by static resolution over every reference class, not by the
test suite -- a full `make quality-high` was green while all of them were
broken:
* 7 `src:` values built from a role variable holding a bare filename
(svc-bkp-remote-2-local, decidim, espocrm, friendica, joomla, pixelfed x2).
The variable doubles as the destination name inside the container, so the
language segment belongs at the call site, not in the variable.
* `sys-service/tasks/04_base.yml` resolved every consumer's systemd script
through `first_found(..., errors='strict')` over `files/script.{sh,py}`.
18 roles ship exactly that and have no template fallback: the play would
have died on each.
* `sys-front-inj-javascript` fell back to `<role>/files/javascript.js`; the
interface now reads `files/javascript/javascript.js`.
* `sys-front-inj-logout/templates/head_sub.j2` built the cache-busting mtime
path through `path_absolute(... 'files', ...)`.
* 4 `ansible.builtin.script:` invocations naming a bare command
(pull.py, prune.sh, set_postgres_superuser_password.sh, ganesha-serve.sh).
* `dev-python/files/shell/install.sh` pointed at a sibling role's script.
Depth-dependent paths inside the moved trees were bumped accordingly: 59
`parents[N]` computations, 12 relative climbs, and the per-role recover CLI,
whose path `cli/administration/recover/recoverers.py` still assembled from the
pre-move location.

The reconciler addresses a client with tasks_from: utils/mcp.yml, which
only works when every role offers its MCP work at the same path. The
files were named per role, and on the two agents the work sat inline in
the entry point, where nothing but a full role run could reach it.
The filter docstring pointed at the pre-rename path and now names the
file that exists.
Every MCP role keeps its task tree under tasks/utils/ without numeric
prefixes, so a caller can reach any of them through include_role
tasks_from. utils/roles/mapping.py holds that path as the single source.
Ansible resolves a relative include against the including file's own
directory when that file was reached by path, but against tasks/ when it
was reached through tasks_from. The same file therefore loaded from its
own role and failed from a caller using tasks_from. Every nested include
now names {{ role_path }}/tasks/utils/..., which holds under both bases,
and a lint walks each tasks_from entrypoint transitively to keep it so.
The exec-gating lint learns the same form, otherwise it loses the include
chain and reports inherited IS_STACK_HOST gates as missing.
The expression resolving a provider's stored token appeared eighteen
times. plugins/lookup/mcp_credential.py replaces it, and mcp_probe_owner
disappears from eight roles: it was only ever a step towards the bearer
and no probe read it.
The Hermes and OpenClaw probes stop aborting the play while it is still
running. Roles deploy in dependency order, so a client probing during its
own role can run before a provider exists at all, and failing there
prevents that provider from ever deploying. The verdict moves to the
reconciliation pass, gated on MCP_RECONCILE_STRICT, which the reconciler
sets and group_vars declares so the readers need no default.
The sys-svc-mcp-reconcile role is added here; wiring it into a stage is a
separate change.

The eight roles whose MCP server is built into the application now end their MCP
step with the shared contract probe. It builds URL and Authorization header from
the role's own declaration, calls initialize and tools/list, invokes one
deterministic read tool per role, and compares the served surface against the
declared allowlist. It cannot be a Playwright test: the check needs the real
provider credential and a Playwright run would capture it in its trace.
Eleven sites wrote the MCP token into the store under the administrator's
identity while their metadata declared an owner of their own. The schema lint
forbids administrator as a credential owner, so declaration and storage
disagreed, and the probe would have looked for the bearer under the declared
owner and found nothing. They now read the declared owner.
Provision the native MCP server surface: create the endpoint, its owner
and its workspace, probe it on the internal origin, and refuse an
endpoint that never serves the stream. Baserow addresses a session
through the URL path, so meta/services.yml declares the endpoint key and
suffix the discovery layer composes the client URL from.
Split the role into a run-once guarded core. Registering the MCP surface
makes baserow a shared provider, and the variant-aware loader checks the
run-once flag before loading; without the flag as the first task a second
load request can include the role again.
Address the container by its hosting node. Migration and bootstrap ran
`container exec` on the manager while the replica sits on a worker, so
the resolved id existed nowhere the command could reach it. Re-resolve
after the post-migration restart as well: `service update --force`
replaces the container, and the bootstrap was still holding the id of the
one it replaced.

Add tests/lint/repository/test_task_file_numbering.py: numbered task
files use exactly two leading digits, a numbered *_core.yml must be
00_core.yml, per directory the numbers are unique/consecutive and start
at 01 (00 with a core file), numbered includes appear in ascending
order, and shared helpers live in tasks/utils/ instead of the numbered
chain.
Apply it across every role: rename NN_core.yml to 00_core.yml with a
consecutive down-shift of the siblings, move letter-suffix children into
a subdirectory named after their parent task, relocate helpers included
from more than one place into tasks/utils/, and update every reference
(include_tasks, path_absolute, .ansible-lint-ignore, requirement docs).
Legacy narration comments in the touched files are deleted; the upstream
xwiki.properties reference block opts out via nocheck. The unused
MAILU_IP6_PUBLIC var (only ever named in now-removed comments) is dropped.

In swarm mode the container_address lookup returns a $(/usr/bin/resolve-container-id ...) fragment that must expand at exec time; piping it through Jinja quote hands docker the literal string and every exec fails with 'No such container' (broke all three snipe-it CI variants). Remove the quote at the seven snipe-it sites and the live matrix/openproject sites, convert openproject's argv exec to shell so the fragment can expand, split the matrix bridge restart per deployment mode with a manager gate, and mark the compose-only or eval-contract sites with nocheck. A new lint (container-address-quote) bans the pattern repo-wide.

Add a 'timeout' lookup plugin that returns round(base * TIMEOUT_FACTOR)
(group_vars default 1, so value-identical to the old literals). One knob
in group_vars stretches every wait in the stack for a slow uplink:
TIMEOUT_FACTOR: 2 doubles them all.
- plugins/lookup/timeout.py + unit tests (identity, factor scaling,
string coercion, error paths).
- group_vars/all/17_resource.yml: TIMEOUT_FACTOR: 1.
- Convert all 34 literal 'timeout:' task keywords / module args across 25
task+handler files to "{{ lookup('timeout', <base>) | int }}".
- tests/lint/repository/yaml/test_timeout_uses_lookup.py enforces the
lookup in every task/handler timeout (opt-out: # nocheck: timeout-lookup).
- swarm.yml pre-deploy build handler: add the missing timeout (same
network-build hang vector as compose.yml's Build compose).
- Drop 13 pre-existing narration comments in the touched files (comment
lint enforces whole-file on any edited file).

Add tests/lint/repository/test_name_emoji_and_length.py: every Ansible task
name and GitHub Actions workflow/job/step name must start with an emoji (first
char not 0-9/A-Za-z) and be <= 80 chars.
- emit emoji names at the source: cli/build/include generator now writes
"🔧 setup <app>" / "🚿 flush handlers after <app>" so generated
tasks/groups/*-roles.yml satisfy the convention too
- convert existing task/step/job/workflow names to emoji-prefixed, choosing a
task-fitting icon per action (📦 install, ✅ ensure, 🔍 probe, 🥾 bootstrap,
🚀 deploy, 🧩 service-module load, ⬇️ checkout, 📂 include-routines, ...)

DEPLOYMENT_MODE is binary (swarm / compose), so a negated `!= 'swarm'` gate
always means `== 'compose'`. Replace every negated gate across roles/ and
group_vars with the positive form for readability, and add a lint
(tests/lint/ansible/variables/test_no_deployment_mode_negation.py) that forbids
`DEPLOYMENT_MODE !=` in .yml/.yaml/.j2 with a `# nocheck:
deployment-mode-negation` escape.
The compose-verb / chdir / jinja-gate lint guidance messages now suggest the
positive form too; the gate matcher (utils/annotations/task_gate.py) and its
test inputs keep recognising the legacy `!= 'swarm'` so a nocheck-marked
exception is still detected as compose-only.

The OpenResty redeploy handler ('remounts bind to live inode') fires once per app; without --detach each call blocked until the full rolling convergence, so the per-app blocks accumulated into an apparent hang. openresty actually converges (clean Shutdown->Running, old replica keeps serving during the rolling update, readiness is gated separately by the converge-wait), so add --detach to return immediately. Also add timeout: 600 (10 min) to that handler and to the three single-fire app service-update-force tasks (baserow post-migration restart, matomo install restart + bootstrap re-run) as a hard cap: a genuinely stuck redeploy now fails cleanly instead of hanging forever. 600s comfortably exceeds the normal rolling convergence (~2-5 min, matomo healthcheck start_period 60s x replicas) and matches the existing timeout: 600 already used elsewhere in baserow; the three keep their blocking so the next step still gets the service ready.

The all-in-one image runs supervisord with the startup migrate and celery-beat concurrently. With MIGRATE_ON_STARTUP defaulting true, the image's startup migrate races celery-beat (which crash-loops on the un-migrated schema) and deadlocks on the locked_migrate advisory lock; the schema never completes and the external locked_migrate task then blocks forever on that same lock. Set MIGRATE_ON_STARTUP=false so the external task is the sole migrator, and add timeout: 600 to the migrate and bootstrap exec tasks so a stuck exec fails cleanly instead of hanging (retries stay 60; timeout bounds the whole task).
Verified in dev container (deploy-4): locked_migrate now completes in ~6s (was a 30min+ hang); deploy reached ok=1879 end-to-end.

stack_host_copy is the copy: analogue of stack_host_template: it folds the IS_STACK_HOST gate into the module so callers do not silently fail on hosts whose destination tree is owned only by the stack host. In swarm an app's compose / build-context directory (/opt/compose/<app>) exists only on the manager, so a bare copy: into directories.instance also ran on workers and aborted the play with 'Destination directory does not exist'.
Migrate the six compose-dir copy tasks (baserow, jenkins, bookwyrm, postmarks, yourls, openldap) to stack_host_copy and drop the now-redundant when: IS_STACK_HOST. A new drift-guard lint test (test_stack_host_copy_migration) flags any future bare copy: into the compose dir, and a unit test covers the wrapper.

Swarm runs baserow with one replica per node, each taking the shared advisory lock via locked_migrate on startup. The post-deploy ansible task ran an unlocked migrate that raced the replicas and produced DuplicateTable. Switch it to locked_migrate so it serializes on the same lock; this is a no-op for a single compose instance.
The trusted-header SSO build-context staging copied files into baserow's compose directory, which exists only on the stack host. Ungated, it also ran on workers and aborted the play. Gate it with IS_STACK_HOST so the image is staged and built only on the manager; workers pull the built image from the registry. Compose stays unchanged since IS_STACK_HOST is always true on a single host.

Reconcile main's object-store feature and pre-swarm deploy tasks with the branch's compose/networks/volumes SPOT and swarm lints.
objstore (seaweedfs/minio): standalone compose + embedded service templates migrated to the container_image/container_volumes/container_networks/compose_volumes/compose_networks/depends_on lookups; meta/volumes.yml on the canonical dict schema with s3.json and nginx.conf as type:config; embedded services made swarm-compatible via compose_only/compose_restart.
deploy tasks (erpnext, opentalk, seaweedfs, shopware, snipe-it, wordpress, yourls): container exec routed through the container_address resolver and gated on IS_STACK_HOST, shell module plus stack_host_template, no chdir or compose-verb forms.
Also removed orphaned vars, restored MAILU_INSTANCE_DIR, freed the seaweedfs subnet (192.168.206.0/24), stripped literal quotes from the nextcloud/bookwyrm env templates, and routed main's objstore compose_volumes tests through dir_var_lib.

`BASEROW_APP_CONTAINER_ADDRESS` resolves via the `container_address`
lookup to a bash subshell string `"$(/usr/bin/resolve-container-id
<stack> <service>)"` in swarm mode (and to the bare container_name
in compose mode). The migrations + bootstrap-admin tasks fed it
into `container exec -i` through `| quote`, which wraps the whole
value in single quotes — bash then does NOT evaluate `$()` and
`container exec` is handed the literal string, failing with
`Error response from daemon: No such container: "$(/usr/bin/...)"`.
Drop `| quote` on the two `ansible.builtin.shell` invocations
(migrations + bootstrap). The lookup's output is already shell-safe
(the subshell is double-quoted internally, the compose-mode bare
name has no shell metacharacters). The `ansible.builtin.command`
restart task on the compose-only branch keeps its `| quote` because
that uses `command:` (no shell), runs only under `DEPLOYMENT_MODE
\!= 'swarm'`, and the bare name is shell-irrelevant there.

Refactors four roles that previously used `# nocheck: compose-chdir-in-task` /
`compose-verb-in-task` / `container-exec-resolver` markers to follow the
canonical swarm-aware pattern:
- web-app-bigbluebutton: adds BBB_POSTGRES_CONTAINER_ADDRESS /
BBB_GREENLIGHT_CONTAINER_ADDRESS vars; 02a_postgres_password_sync.yml +
03_administrator.yml use `container exec -i {{ ..._CONTAINER_ADDRESS | quote }}`;
02_compose.yml's compose-build-phase tasks (generate-compose +
prebuild etherpad) move into the new
02b_bootstrap_compose_project.yml (>3 entries cannot live in a block)
under a single `when: DEPLOYMENT_MODE \!= "swarm"` include guard.
- web-app-baserow: BASEROW_APP_CONTAINER_ADDRESS var + 02_manager_ops.yml
converted to container exec + container restart canonical pattern.
- web-app-matomo: MATOMO_APP_CONTAINER_ADDRESS var; 07_patch_database.yml
swaps MATOMO_LOCAL_CID for the proper resolver-backed address.
- web-app-matrix: 01_docker.yml's two consecutive `compose pull` /
`compose up` tasks extract into 03_compose_pull_and_up.yml (with the new
`# include-gated: when: DEPLOYMENT_MODE \!= "swarm"` header marker) and
the previous 03_webserver.yml renames to 04_webserver.yml to keep the
numeric file sequence contiguous.
Supporting lint infrastructure changes so file-level include-gated
sub-task lists survive the swarm-compat lints:
- utils/annotations/task_gate.py: `is_task_compose_only_gated` now walks
up nested parent blocks (a single `when: DEPLOYMENT_MODE \!= 'swarm'`
on `- block:` exempts every child task underneath) and a new
`is_file_compose_only_by_header` recognises files declaring
`# include-gated: when: DEPLOYMENT_MODE \!= "swarm"` in their first
five lines as compose-only-by-include.
- tests/lint/ansible/shell/test_no_compose_chdir_in_shell_tasks.py and
test_no_compose_verb_in_shell_tasks.py call the header helper before
the per-line scan, so include-only sub-files are exempt.
- tests/unit/utils/annotations/test_task_gate.py covers both new
behaviours (recursive parent walk plus file header) end-to-end.

The post-migration restart step has two branches gated on
DEPLOYMENT_MODE. Tighten both:
- Compose branch: keeps the `compose restart …` call, but the
lint suite's swarm-compat audit (rules `compose-verb-in-task`
and `compose-chdir-in-task`) flags it as a compose-only verb /
chdir. The branch IS compose-only by design -- the swarm
branch below carries the equivalent action. Add per-line
`# nocheck:` markers that name the rule and explain *why* the
compose call is legitimate here (so a future reader does not
silence the lint without understanding it).
- Swarm branch: was calling `docker service update --force`
directly with a hand-spelled `<entity-name>_<service-name>`,
re-implementing the swarm naming convention inline. Replace
with the `container` wrapper + `container_service` lookup so
the swarm service name comes from the same single source that
every other swarm-side task uses (and so the recent
`container_service` swarm-naming fix in commit 0a852e5b5 -- which
switched to `<stack>_<service-key>` -- automatically applies
here).
Behaviourally identical for the existing single-host case;
correctness improvement for multi-stack swarm clusters where the
old inline spelling could shadow the entity_name resolution path.
Replace compose exec / compose restart with the container wrapper
addressed by lookup('container_address', ...), so migrate + admin
bootstrap resolve to the swarm task ID (or the bare service name in
compose). Split the post-migrate restart into a compose path
(compose restart) and a swarm path (docker service update --force).
Use Jinja | quote on env values and the embedded bootstrap script.

Baserow's native SSO is Enterprise-only, so gate the community image with the shared Keycloak oauth2-proxy and patch urls.py (via a custom Dockerfile) with a trusted-header bridge. The bridge provisions/repairs a local Baserow user from the oauth2-proxy identity headers and mints native refresh/access/user_session tokens, mirroring Baserow's own SSO redirect contract (?token=&user_session=).
proxy.conf.j2 performs the nginx handoff: an authenticated browser without a jwt_token cookie is 302'd to /api/infinito/sso/login/, which redirects back to /?token=&user_session= for the frontend middleware to consume. bootstrap_admin marks the superuser email_verified + completed_onboarding to skip onboarding.
Replace the LDAP service/variant with proxy-gating and rewrite the seaweedfs + persona Playwright tests to drive Baserow through its API using the SSO-minted JWT.

Across roles/web-app-*, the typical body shape is:
- include_role: sys-stk-full (or sys-svc-compose) cluster prereqs
- <host-fs writes, container exec, compose exec> stack-host only
Under swarm-mode delegation the second group only makes sense on the
host that holds the compose stack (manager), but the role plays on
every host in groups[<role>] so workers abort on missing paths.
Two workflow sweeps (gate-manager-ops + gate-manager-ops-01core, 58
agents total, discover/plan/adversarial-verify per role) plus three
manual fixes surfaced 27 roles to refactor. Each role keeps
sys-stk-full ungated so worker-side prereqs (sys-svc-container, NFS
client) still bootstrap; the trailing manager-only block either moves
into a new tasks/02_manager_ops.yml included with
when: IS_STACK_HOST | bool (SUB_FILE pattern) or gets the gate
inlined on the one or two trailing tasks (INLINE pattern). In
compose mode IS_STACK_HOST stays true so single-host deploys are
unchanged.
Manual catches the workflow agents missed:
- web-app-fediwall: utils/once/flag.yml lives AT THE END of 01_core,
not at the start; preserved verbatim outside the gate so workers
still flip the run_once_<role> fact.
- web-app-xwiki: a pre-existing block(...) wraps sys-stk-full plus
_flush_config.yml; gated only the _flush_config.yml include so
sys-stk-full keeps running on workers.
- web-app-dashboard: 02_javascript.yml (creates /opt/compose/dashboard/
JS dirs) ran BEFORE sys-stk-full and was ungated; added the gate.

Avoid Playwright HTTP 500 race: the all-in-one Baserow container's entrypoint
can still be running Django migrations while the playbook continues. Run
`compose exec … manage.py migrate --noinput` with retries before bootstrapping
the admin so auth_user / core_workspace exist, then restart the service. Inline
the previous helper scripts as YAML tasks (drop migrate_via_compose_env.py
entirely; replace bootstrap_admin_via_compose_env.py with a small Django shell
snippet loaded via lookup('file', …)). Use the `compose` wrapper instead of raw
`docker compose` to keep the engine swappable. Unit-test the bootstrap snippet.

Pure 1:1 rename (69 insertions / 69 deletions across 66 files) to
finish the ``docker_*`` → ``compose_*`` alignment started in
8373468e9. The flag configures whether the compose include flushes
handlers right after run; the ``docker_`` prefix was misleading
(handlers are Ansible-side, not docker-side) and the variable is part
of the same ``sys-svc-compose`` SPOT cluster as ``compose_repository_*``.
Touches the role default, the implementation
(``sys-svc-compose/tasks/utils/up.yml``), all 60+ consumer roles,
the network-utility wrapper + its README, and the
``test_network_create_via_util.py`` lint (both the docstring guidance
and the asserted diff).
Breaking change for any external override that still sets the old
name — no alias is provided.

Adds tests/lint/ansible/test_no_redundant_default_on_module_io.py which
flags `<reg>.{stdout,stderr,rc} | default(...)` inside `changed_when:`,
`failed_when:`, or `until:` lines. Those conditionals only fire after
the module has actually executed, so the fallback can never apply --
keeping it just hides bugs and noise.
Cleans up the 21 existing offenders across 14 role files. The taiga
upsert-admin task additionally gains a `not ASYNC_ENABLED and ...`
short-circuit so its async-poll-0 path no longer leans on a silent
empty fallback for stdout/stderr; with the short-circuit, the
`default('')` is genuinely dead code.
Cross-task references (a later task reading a registered result of an
earlier task that may have been skipped via `when:`) stay out of scope
and remain a legitimate use of `| default(...)`.

Bootstrap ran immediately after compose up and raced the container
entrypoint that creates auth_user, failing with psycopg2 UndefinedTable
on fresh deploys. Retries the script up to 60 times at 5s intervals.

- Rename lookup plugin from `docker` to `container`
- Switch all lookups from `lookup('docker', ...)` to `lookup('container', ...)`
- Normalize compose file keys:
- docker_compose → compose
- docker_compose_override → compose_override
- docker_compose_ca_override → compose_ca_override
- Centralize compose path resolution via docker_paths_utils
- Update compose_file_args to always derive paths from DIR_COMPOSITIONS
- Align all roles, templates, and vars with container/compose naming
- Update and rename unit tests accordingly
This prepares the codebase for engine-agnostic container backends
(e.g. Docker ↔ Podman) and removes legacy docker-specific assumptions.

- Replace lookup('docker', ..., want='...') with lookup('docker', ..., 'path')
- Allow both top-level keys (directories/files) and dotted paths
- Simplify docker lookup API and reduce lazy dict propagation
- Update unit tests to reflect new lookup semantics

Remove implicit docker_compose variable usage and resolve all docker paths
(files, directories, env) via lookup('docker', application_id).
This prevents scope leakage, centralizes path resolution, and makes docker
context deterministic across roles and handlers.

- add optional idempotent bootstrap of Django superuser via script module
- execute admin bootstrap through docker compose exec with env injection
- avoid shell/quoting issues by passing credentials via environment
- introduce BASEROW_SECRET_KEY and wire it into container env
- ensure container recreation when DB credentials change
- document admin bootstrap and SECRET_KEY requirements in README
