The compose and host deploy jobs tee the whole deploy stdout into the file
ANSIBLE_LOG_PATH names, and both downstream steps parse that stream. Only
stdout carries the host-side "matrix-deploy: round N/M ... PASS n" markers,
so it is the sole source the per-variant runtime tables can come from.
dedicated.sh's cleanup then copied the container-side ansible log onto that
same path. docker cp unlinks and recreates the destination, so tee kept
writing into an orphaned inode and the visible file became ansible's own
log_path output — whose "<ts> p= u= n= LEVEL| " line prefix defeats the
anchored recap matchers in logparse.py while the unanchored has_sections
substring test still fires. in_roles_recap never flips, every role-time line
is skipped, and the step dies with "no profile_roles entries found" although
the deploy succeeded. Run 30578244959: 14 of 14 compose+host jobs.
Why it looked like a flake: docker cp cannot read a /tmp that is a tmpfs
mounted inside the container, and the Debian image enables systemd's
tmp.mount while CentOS Stream 10 does not. The copy silently failed on
debian (host file survived, jobs green) and landed on centos (host file
destroyed). feature/swarm-nfs never had the block; it returned here through
merge drift from main, where the copy is still load-bearing because those
workflows do not tee.
The copy is dropped: stdout is a strict superset of what it provided, and
the in-container verifier reads the log inside the container. Alongside it:
the swarm workflow's file-exists guard is adopted so an aborted deploy does
not paint the summary step red on top; the log_path prefix moves to
utils/ansible_log.py and is applied in logparse.py, so an ansible run log
parses instead of yielding an empty summary; a lint pins that nothing writes
onto ANSIBLE_LOG_PATH again; and the parser regression test now covers the
recap headers, not just the role rows.

categories.yml moves from roles/ to the repository-root meta/, joining packages.yml. utils/roles/categories.py owns its location plus the tree-walking helpers that were stranded in entity/name.py, so no caller spells the path or duplicates the lookup.
meta/distros.yml becomes the SPOT for every distribution: os_family, Galaxy platform name, dev-environment base image, and the pkgmgr/pkgmgr-virgin/environment reference templates. It replaces seven scattered copies (DISTRO_FAMILY, VALID_DISTROS, _DISTROS, _CANONICAL_PLATFORMS, two shell arrays, a Makefile literal). INFINITO_DISTROS is no longer a static default but generated by utils/env/handlers/infinito/distros.py; the shell consumers read it through the env layer.
Drops dead CLI surface found along the way: --categories-file and --roles-dir on the provision CLI plus three unused parameters of generate_dynamic_inventory, and the positional roles_file of the invokable categories command.
tests/lint/repository/test_distros_spot.py pins the copies that cannot call the SPOT (workflow literals, docs table) and forbids composing a pkgmgr reference outside it.

The required_by coverage verifier treated every flat 'required_by: {categories/roles}' as required in BOTH deploy modes. But sys-ctl-rpr-container-hard/soft repair compose compositions (DIR_COMPOSITIONS) and gate their body to compose; declaring required_by:[web] flat made the verifier expect them on swarm too, where they correctly skip, so web-opt-rdr-domains swarm CI failed 'required role(s) did not execute'. Let required_by nest under 'compose:'/'swarm:'; the verifier infers the deploy mode from the role set, mirroring DEPLOYMENT_MODE's own groups['svc-swarm-node'] definition, and enforces only the matching mode.
Migrate all 21 existing flat declarations to mirror under both modes (behavior unchanged) and mark sys-ctl-rpr-container-* compose-only. role_has_required_by reads both forms. New lint test_required_by_mode_keys requires the explicit compose:/swarm: form so the flat-vs-gate contradiction can't recur.

The required_by coverage verifier (_role_body_executed) reads ANSIBLE_LOG_PATH, but the swarm and compose deploy point that at a log FILE, which ansible prefixes every line with '<ts> p=<pid> u=<user> n=<name> <LVL>| '. That prefix defeated both the line-anchored non-skip status match and the TASK-header block split, so every required role (e.g. sys-ctl-cln-bkps under any svc-bkp deploy) false-positived as 'did not execute' although it actually ran on the manager. Strip the prefix before matching; reproduced locally with a minimal multi-host include and verified the file slice flips while raw-stdout matching is unaffected.

`categories_of()` now emits the sub-level key with the same hyphen
the role-id already uses (`web-app`, `svc-bkp`, `sys-ctl`) instead of
the dot-form (`web.app`, `svc.bkp`, `sys.ctl`). Reads cleanly against
the role naming convention and removes the only place in the
matching layer where role-id segments got rewritten.
Updates the matching unit tests and the only consumer annotation
that referenced the dot form (`sys-ctl-cln-bkps`).

- Move role_is_invokable / role_has_required_by / role_has_nocheck out
of plugins/filter (where they were flagged as test-only filters) into
utils/roles/required_by_coverage.py. All three use load_yaml_any,
read_text, and ROLE_FILE_META_SERVICES from the canonical SPOTs.
- Refactor the verifier (cli.meta.roles.services.called) the same way:
iterate roles/*/ directly, look up meta/services.yml via the constant,
parse with load_yaml_any, and tolerate a missing roles_dir (unit tests
point at a fake /repo).
- Make the mailu-dependency integration test yaml-aware for meta/
services.yml: walk the parsed tree and skip values inside any
`required_by` subtree. `required_by` is inverse coverage metadata for
the deploy verifier, not a "consumer of mailu" reference, so previous
regex-on-text matching produced false positives for cert-deploy.
- sys-ctl-mtn-cert-renew is gated by `lookup('tls', application_id,
'mode') == 'letsencrypt'`, which the verifier can't express via
role-id/category match — mark nocheck with the reason inline.
- Add README.md for cli/meta/roles/services (CLI-category convention).

Asserts at deploy time that every role declaring `required_by` in its
meta/services.yml actually executed (at least one TASK block ending with
a non-skip status of `ok` / `changed` / `fatal` / `included`). Catches
silent coverage regressions where a once-flag swallows an include before
the role's body can run.
CLI: `python -m cli.meta.roles.services.called --logfile X --apps a,b,c`
Library: `cli.meta.roles.services.called.verify(...)` supports per-pass
slicing via `log_byte_offset` and reads either host-side log files or
in-container logs when `container=` is given.
Hooked into `cli.administration.deploy.development.deploy._run_deploy`
so matrix-deploy runs (CI + local make compose-deploy mode=initialize/
reinstall) snapshot the log offset before each compose.exec and verify
the resulting slice after rc=0. Defaults ANSIBLE_LOG_PATH to
/tmp/infinito-deploy.log so the check also runs locally without env-var
setup.
Includes 35 self-contained unit tests covering category derivation,
TASK-block status parsing (incl. ANSI escape stripping + substring
role-id guard + multi-skip edge case), required_role_ids YAML scan,
host log slicing with byte offsets, end-to-end verify, and CLI argparse.
