A root-owned, empty .ansible/ (collections/modules/roles) directory
skeleton can appear in the repo root, from some root-run containerized
process's Ansible invocation resolving its collections_paths default
against the wrong $HOME. Confirmed this is not the project's own
convention: every reference in the codebase (Makefile, scripts/install/
all.sh, .github/workflows/lint-ansible.yml) consistently targets
~/.ansible/collections outside the repo, and .ansible/ has never been
tracked in this repository's history. Regardless of the exact trigger,
this directory is untracked and root-owned, and being previously
unlisted caused 'git stash push -u' to abort mid-cleanup on it
(EACCES), silently leaving other unrelated working-tree changes
unreset.
The unit suites had to install their toolchain on every run. The image
now carries the interpreters, so the make prerequisite finds them present.
The Composer vendor tree deliberately stays out of the image build: the
package cache is reached through the compose extra_hosts mapping, which
only exists for a running container, so a build-time composer install
would bypass the cache and talk to packagist directly. Fetching it from
the test target keeps it on the cached path.
The restore cycle stops every subject of the host, replays into the database
services alone, and starts the rest again at the very end. Any exit in
between skips that last step, so the host keeps its subjects down - and
nothing recorded it.
The next deploy then failed on a symptom of the teardown rather than on
whatever ended the drill. It cost two runs: once 'rake db:migrate' against a
database the cycle had emptied but not yet replayed, once
Redis::CannotConnectError because the cycle never restarted redis. Both times
the message pointed away from the cause, and fixing what it named would have
fixed nothing.
A trap armed before the teardown now records the teardown and the exit code,
and mode=update refuses to run while that record stands. purge=true and
mode=reinstall pass, because both rebuild the state the drill destroyed; a
completed cycle clears the record itself.

Containerised lint and deploy runs write .ansible/ in the worktree: fetched
collections, modules, roles and the lock ansible-lint holds for the duration
of a run. It showed up as untracked in every git status, and its lock is
written by the container's user, so a run that dies leaves a root-owned file
behind that the next status still reports.
.dockerignore is generated from this file, so it moves along.

.cache/ holds generated worktree checkouts, so it was neither ignored nor
excluded from the markdownlint globs. That put 809 foreign markdown files in
scope; the read-only pass tolerated them, but autoformat's --fix could not
write there and took the whole quality gate down.

Resolves the runner Dockerfile to the lint-standard Acquire::Retries=3
and keeps the collabora TODO wording; hardens the merged tree for the
stricter lints (apt retries in the tor Dockerfile, shell-or-true
markers, comment cleanup).

Standardize the private inventory dir on the fully spelled "production" (matching inventories/development). Update the role README template (SPOT) and regenerate 153 role READMEs plus the admin deploy guide; add inventories/production/ to .gitignore, propagated to .dockerignore via make fix-dockerignore.

1.8.1 drops user-owned collations in the postgres --empty pre-clean, so
dumps with CREATE COLLATION (OpenProject) restore cleanly. Includes the
regenerated .dockerignore picking up the .claude-* ignore pattern.

Add the i8* terminal aliases (make install-alias) and ai8* agent
conversation shortcuts (docs/.../agents/alias.md), move skill
distribution to the external INFINITO_SKILLS_REPOSITORY (make
install-skills), and add make cheat, make alias and make onboard. Introduce
custom.env operator overrides (win over defaults and handlers) and pin
INFINITO_ALIAS_MD / INFINITO_ALIAS_REPOSITORY / INFINITO_SKILLS_REPOSITORY
in default.env. Drop the in-repo skills-lock.json and its update-skills CI
job. AGENTS.md instructs agents to suggest the matching cli/prompt alias
when an operator writes something an alias covers. Lints enforce alias
sorting, i8/ai8 prefixes, no consonant clusters, full make-target
coverage, and terminal/agent shortcut non-overlap.

Turn a NAT/edge node into a full Tor v3 onion node: DOMAIN_PRIMARY
becomes the node's .onion, so the whole stack (web, SSO, LDAP, CA)
resolves onion domains and is reachable over Tor without a public IP,
port forwarding, VPS or DynDNS.
- utils/tor_onion.py: offline v3 key mint (address + HiddenServiceDir
key files), verified against a known key->address test vector.
- cli .../inventory/onion: `init-env` pre-mints the node onion, writes
INFINITO_DOMAIN(+_RE) into .env and authoritative key files into
.onion-identity/hs (idempotent). The onion is a deploy-time input;
no in-deploy random minting (that would not match the pre-set domain).
- roles/svc-net-tor: Tor sidecar (Debian-built, network_mode: host),
installs the minted keys, torrc with one node HiddenService + a SOCKS
proxy restricted to loopback/DiD ranges. files/test.sh probes every
served onion domain over the Tor SOCKS.
- tls: .onion -> TLS off (onion v3 crypto is the transport auth; LE
cannot sign .onion) + app-level flavor override.
- harness/DNS: coredns resolves the onion zone via INFINITO_DOMAIN;
skip the clearnet DNS sanity check for onion; raise nginx
server_names_hash_bucket_size to 128 for long onion server_names.
- test-e2e-playwright: gated browser SOCKS proxy (PLAYWRIGHT_PROXY) +
navigation/action timeouts so specs reach .onion over Tor and fail
fast; the onion node points it at the Tor SOCKS.
- docs/requirements/031: full design.
Verified: dashboard + SSO (Keycloak) + 9 apps reachable over Tor
(HTTP 200 through the node hidden service). make test green.

`make setup` regenerates `.dockerignore` from `.gitignore` on every run.
The earlier commit that added `.claude/hooks` to `.gitignore` did not
re-emit the matching `.dockerignore`, so each CI invocation rewrote the
file — and the `pre-commit` framework reported `make test` as failed
("files were modified by this hook"), even though every test target
passed. Land the synced output here so the diff stays empty on a clean
deploy.

The env.development marker file existed for two purposes that no longer
justify the wiring cost: a per-machine compose --env-file override layer
appended after auto-loaded .env, and a fallback signal for
detect_runtime() to return "dev" when the marker exists. With every
INFINITO_* default now collapsed into env/default.env -> .env,
persistent per-machine overrides are best expressed as
\`export INFINITO_FOO=…\` before invoking make (load.sh honors
caller-set values via setdefault). The marker fallback in
detect_runtime was redundant with the explicit RUNTIME=dev that every
dev-flow callsite already passes (fresh-*.sh, reset/inventory.sh).
Removed:
- Makefile mark-development target + .PHONY entry
- env.development from .gitignore / .dockerignore
- env_local conditional in compose.up()
- env_development conditional in down._compose_run()
- env.development conditional in scripts/meta/resolve/apps.sh and
scripts/meta/resolve/diff/affected_roles.sh
- env.development marker branch + the now-unused project_root parameter
from cli/meta/runtime/detect_runtime; __main__.py caller follows
- "Optional Development Marker" section in docs/contributing/environment/
setup.md and the marker reference in docs/administration/installation.md
Also drops two RUNTIME=='dev' guards in roles/web-app-bigbluebutton that
relied on the auto-detect path:
- the compose build etherpad task in tasks/02_compose.yml
- the freeswitch iptables-REJECT entrypoint override in
templates/compose.override.yml.j2
With auto-detection of "dev" gone the guards would otherwise only fire
on explicit RUNTIME=dev runs, silently regressing the local-dev path
operators rely on; both behaviors now apply unconditionally.

`make test-signed` checks `git log -1 --pretty=%G?`; `N` (no
signature attached) aborts and the pre-push hook gates pushes
of unsigned tips. Sign locally via `git-sign-push` (already a
dev dep) or `git commit -S`.
Move the `.git` entry from a Makefile `echo … >> .dockerignore`
appendage into `.gitignore` itself (no-op for Git, required for
Docker). `make dockerignore` collapses to a single `cat .gitignore
> .dockerignore` which converges on the same content under any
parallel interleaving — previously 5 concurrent `make setup`
invocations from `make test` could append 3-5 stacked `.git`
lines and make pre-commit revert on "files modified by hook".

The URL-reachability probe now bounds its wall-clock end-to-end:
allow_redirects=False (a redirect chain previously stacked
timeouts), a 5h30m global deadline that marks in-flight probes
as warnings on expiry, and live `[done/total]` progress every 50
probes. Submission order is shuffled so same-host URLs no longer
batch at the front and self-DoS one origin.
The Docker image-version test drops its bespoke sequential
fetch loop and calls find_outdated_updates() from utils.update.docker,
so it now shares the INFINITO_WORKER_FETCH-sized worker pool with
the repository-refs check.
`scripts/tests/code/wrapper.sh` propagates BASH_ENV into the
container exec — without it INFINITO_WORKER_FETCH was unset
inside the container and the URL probe collapsed to 1 worker.
`make test` gains test-external; `make dotenv-force` regenerates
.env with a stripped environment so stale BASH_ENV-preloaded
INFINITO_* values cannot pin old numbers via setdefault.

`make test` and `make lint` now delegate to a generic parallel-make
wrapper that caps `-j` at INFINITO_WORKER_CPU, syncs per-target
output, and prints wall-clock elapsed time. `make test` gains the
full `lint` sweep and drops the phantom `test-deploy` target (PHONY
without recipe); pre-commit hooks consolidate around a single
`make test` invocation.

Two follow-ups to 2986e8042 (introduces repo-root package.json with the
ESLint dev-deps and adds node_modules/ to .gitignore):
- `.github/dependabot.yml`: add `/` to the existing npm directories
list. The new package.json was uncovered, so
`tests/integration/workflows/test_dependabot_coverage.py` failed
("ecosystem: npm" required for /package.json).
- `.dockerignore`: regenerated by `make dockerignore` (the Makefile
target that mirrors .gitignore into .dockerignore plus a trailing
`.git`); now carries the new `node_modules/` line so build contexts
don't ship the local install tree into images.

Makefile lint integration:
* scripts/install/lint.sh: replace the prior checkmake binary install with
ensure_mbake (mbake is pip-installable, parses our Makefile correctly
whereas checkmake bailed on .ONESHELL: / .SHELLFLAGS: / ifneq).
* scripts/lint/makefile.sh: new runner — `mbake format --check Makefile`
reports formatting drift and missing .PHONY declarations.
* scripts/lint/autoformat.sh: add a two-pass `mbake format Makefile`
(mbake's formatter is not strictly idempotent on the first pass).
* Makefile: split the multi-line `.PHONY:` block into 18 single-line
`.PHONY:` declarations so mbake's parser can validate it; add the
previously-missing `install-python-dev` and `build-dependency` PHONY
targets; add `lint-makefile` aggregate-and-direct target.
* .pre-commit-config.yaml: new make-lint-makefile hook scoped to
`^Makefile$`.
* .github/workflows/lint-makefile.yml: new CI workflow (pip-install mbake
+ make lint-makefile).
* .github/workflows/ci-orchestrator.yml: wire lint-makefile into
lint-gate.needs.
Misc:
* .gitignore: add roles/importer_result.json (tooling artefact written by
galaxy-importer when it runs in roles/).
Plus working-tree drift across roles/, group_vars/, inventories/, and
tasks/ that accumulated from the make-test setup phase regenerating
generated artefacts during recent test runs.

Add tests/lint/repository/test_inline_script_block_size.py: scans
roles/, tasks/, playbooks/ and .github/ YAML for literal block scalars
(`|` / `|-` / `|+`) following the keys `shell`, `command`, `script`,
`raw` (Ansible) and `run` (GitHub Actions). Counts logical lines —
trailing-`\` continuations collapse to one line, blank lines are
ignored — and fails when a block exceeds 12.
FOLDED scalars (`>` / `>-` / `>+`) are exempt: they are one shell
statement after YAML folding, even if they span many source lines for
readability.
The walk goes through `utils.cache.files.iter_project_files(...)` per
`docs/agents/action/testing.md` so the shared project-tree cache is
reused across the lint suite.
The fail message tells the author exactly how to fix: Ansible tasks
get the built-in `script:` module (collapses the task to one line);
GitHub Actions workflows extract into `scripts/github/<name>.sh` and
call it via `run: bash scripts/github/<name>.sh` (or
`_helpers/scripts/github/<name>.sh` when the workflow checks out the
repo into `_helpers/`).
Extract the pre-existing literal-block offenders so the new lint
ships green:

Replace the previous OR-based assertion in scripts/tests/environment
(which trivially passed because the Nexus log always grows from
health probes) with a richer set of helpers split across two files
under utils/ for SRP/SPOT.
scripts/tests/environment/utils/cache.sh (new):
* expected_system_proxy_for_runtime maps DEV_RUNTIME_IMAGE to the
Nexus proxy that handles its system package manager (apt-debian,
apt-ubuntu, yum-fedora, yum-rocky; empty for Manjaro/Arch where
pacman is not cached).
* nexus_repo_requests counts only /repository/<name>/... entries in
the Nexus request log, optionally scoped to one proxy. Filters out
health probes, admin REST calls, and Web-UI traffic.
* registry_cache_flows counts every cache-flow status (HIT, MISS,
REVALIDATED, UPDATING, STALE) so cold deploys also count.
* assert_caches_used fails with a per-cache breakdown when any of
three independent conditions is violated: total Nexus repo
traffic = 0, the runtime's expected system proxy has 0 cached
requests, or the deploy itself produced 0 registry-cache flows.
* probe_caches actively fetches a known upstream resource through
each cache (apt-debian/dists/bookworm/Release for the package
cache, /ca.crt for the registry cache).
* probe_did_inner_build drives a throwaway docker build whose
apt-get update runs against deb.debian.org. The build container
is placed on the compose network and pinned via --add-host to the
frontend IP, exactly like the runtime override that
roles/sys-svc-compose/files/compose.py injects for app builds.
After the build the test snapshots
``docker logs infinito-package-cache-frontend`` and asserts the
frontend recorded new requests, proving DiD apt traffic flows
through nginx -> Nexus apt-debian and not directly to upstream.
DOCKER_BUILDKIT=0 because BuildKit refuses --network=<compose-net>.
scripts/tests/environment/utils/common.sh (renamed from lib.sh):
keeps the bootstrap, constants, inventory inspect, and
assert_http_status; cache helpers moved out so the file is
single-concern.
scripts/tests/environment/07_deploy_minimal.sh sources both files;
order is snapshot, deploy, probe_caches, probe_did_inner_build,
snapshot, assert_caches_used. Active probes contribute traffic that
the AND assertion verifies, so the assertion is robust on deploys
that do not naturally trigger inner-build apt traffic.
.github/workflows/test-environment.yml: propagate DEV_RUNTIME_IMAGE
into the inner ``docker run`` so per-distro probe target and proxy
expectation resolve correctly inside the orchestrator.
.gitignore + .dockerignore: also ignore .claude/settings.local.json,
which compose mounts as /dev/null and which the classic docker
builder would otherwise try (and fail) to read into the build
context.
Verified end-to-end with five iterations of
``make act-workflow ACT_WORKFLOW=.github/workflows/test-environment.yml
ACT_JOB=test-environment ACT_MATRIX='dev_runtime_image:debian:bookworm'``.
The final iteration reports +81 apt-debian, +235 registry-cache
flows, +13 frontend log lines from the DiD probe, and "[OK] both
cache stacks observed activity" plus "[OK] DiD inner-build flowed
through cache frontend".
Network gate does not honor wildcards, so allowedDomains is enumerated
explicitly for every host the agent + tooling actually need. Adds
~/.cache/pip, ~/.venvs, ~/.ansible to allowWrite so the pre-commit
make test hook can install the editable package and run ansible.
Adds host shell / editor / tooling state files to .gitignore (and the
auto-generated .dockerignore mirror) so they never become part of the
working tree. Switches the dependabot coverage test to git ls-files
with an os.walk fallback that derives its skip list from the live
.gitignore, so it stays correct in container test environments
without .git/ while still ignoring untracked host artefacts.

Replaces GHCR_PAT-based authentication with GITHUB_TOKEN across all
mirror and build workflows. Packages pushed from a public repository
with GITHUB_TOKEN are automatically linked to the repository and
inherit its public visibility — no publish step required.
Removes cli.mirror.publish (used a non-existent GitHub REST API
endpoint for changing package visibility), the associated unit tests,
and the GHCR_PAT debug helper. Cleans up all GHCR_PAT/GHCR_USERNAME
references and rewrites the GHCR authentication documentation.
